Starting with the shop: simple, clean, upbeat! They do have a bathroom, make sure to use it before…read moreyou head out! Staff: the first girl who helped me (I don't know her name) was awful. She seemed like she was uncomfy with me asking questions about what type of bike to get and didn't have any good insights in to the coastal trail. The guy I worked with (Pablo's nephew) was great! He was knowledgeable about the trail, what to look out for, where to stop, and rescued me when my bike stopped working properly. He is the only reason I am not giving a lower rating! I rented a standard bike. I made it 0.3 miles from the shop when the chain completely broke. They brought me a new bike that was the same style. Both bikes looked beat up and clearly used hard. The second bike never quite shifted right, by the time I was half way back it wouldn't shift at all causing me to call and have a third bike brought to me. When that bike arrived I just wanted to be done, I was over it and thankfully Pablo's Nephew (I really wish I knew his name) took me back. He was very friendly and discounted me for the trouble. The e-bikes looked to be in better condition! So maybe try those!:)

The service at this place is excellent. I have never had some one genuinely care about getting us…read morethe right bike for a rental. We got the e-bikes and the host had us try a few e-bikes with different height and different battery propulsion system. They also had a large selection of "hybrid" bikes which do not have an electric assist. We did not try those , but the customers returning the bikes at the end of their rentals seemed happy. They have a nice and warm indoor tryout/practice area to get comfortable with the bike before renting them out. They also have restrooms and water including water bottle for purchase and a water fountain. They were very patient with us and other customers while we were trying the bikes. They explained the bike trails (including the highlights, some tips form wildlife sighting and the parts to be careful in) and suggested us some of the routes that we can take. I would consider this rental location above others as this is larger, is located nearest to the start of the coastal trail and had a large selection of bikes.

Great selection available, and incredibly reasonable rental price includes all your gear (helmet, locks, etc) as well as great information and clear maps of trails. No weird upselling or pressure. I chose the electric bike as I wanted to take in the scene instead of having to huff and puff and peddling the entire time. While he gathered the bikes that we would need the process for a waiver was very easy and it's a QR code that you can do on your phone. You have to pay for your rental before leaving so by the time you come back, you drop it off and it was a very smooth process. The bikes are very well kept, and there is a number on the bike in case you do have any questions or something Has happened then we were given a pretty good easy trail to do in the amount of time that we paid for. I definitely recommend it. It's an easy process and I have absolutely no complaints about this place.

REI Anchorage is in its third location since I started shopping here in the '80s. This one is way large. special shout out to the ski rental shop, and honorable mention to Marcus for taking the time to chat with us about what we needed, where the trails were good - etc. Rented two days for nice cc skiing at Kincaid, equipment was in great condition. ended up buying a pair of boots after great assistance with trying them on (though one does have to make oneself visible - the staffing is a little lean imo). all a way of saying, i am glad REI continues to be a great resource in my hometown. recommend you shop here.

Today, two weeks later I went to return the size 11 boots that don't fit., that have never been worn outside, and was told that I've been banned from returns. I didn't receive any emails about this, I searched my email and my spam and deleted folders, nor did I receive any snail mail. I've been a member since 2008 and have spent over $40,000 at REI over the years, I guess that doesn't count for anything. For outdoor gear, I recommend shopping local and going to AMH. (Alaska, mountaineering and hiking.) Update: now every time I buy something from REI a manager has to come up and tell me about what a bad consumer I am before I'm allowed to buy something from them.
