Coastal Dunes is a clean and quiet RV park good price and great location. I've stayed at lots of RV parks but Will the park supervisor is one of the most professional and polite rangers I've met. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and has great people skills. The one thing that really makes him shine is his great personality and since of humor . I would highly recommend this park just because of him alone. It's always a pleasure dealing with him, even if I don't get my way. lol read more

Very family oriented, fairly quiet, there's a swimming pool, close to the beaches & you can bicycle on the paths. It's close to the Old West Cinnamon Rolls store, coffee places, shopping & restaurants. The price is right & you can take your dogs. The office staff are very nice & easy to work with. Called 3 times to after hours answering service and still no call back. Even if you don't need to use the bathroom, please be aware you're sandwiched between a major road and train track. read more

This place is sketchy to say the least. It's a county park, and yet there are full time people staying here with trash piled around their RV's. Homeless people sneaking in and parking around the campgrounds. Camp hosts are located around the park, but I've never seen one actually doing anything, or even out of their RV's for that matter. THER is next to no maintenance, and it's 50' from the main road, and 50' from the train tracks. However there are full hook ups, and it's a nice walk to a beach where you might get ran over by a 4 wheel drive vehicle. If you can find somewhere else to stay... do so. If not bring ear plugs and temper your expectations.- read more

It would be more stars, but they tried to put us in a spot that would never have worked for us. We told them we had 3 dogs and a 28ft trailer. We got there just before 6, quickly discovered that the spot they wanted us to take would put the fire put under the middle of our rig. Not only could we not park there, but there was no place to turn around. We got to back out in the pouring down rain, between cars lining the already narrow road. By this time it was after 6 and the office was closed. The camp host told us to pull in anywhere and check with the office in the morning, that this was a common occurrence. At this point our dogs had been in the truck for 8 hours. We couldn't set up their yard because we didn't know if we would be moving in the morning. Fast forward to the next morning (thanksgiving) and we have dogs that have been cooped up for over 24 hours. Our dogs got into an altercation from the stress of not having their yard and we ended up at the emergency vet, our little pug with her eye out of the socket. So far we are at $1400 and she may still lose her eye. The spot they moved us into was a double space and should have been our original placement. There was no reason they could t have put us in one of those originally. There was another right across from us that was empty the whole time... Otherwise it was ok. We didn't use any of the amenities, it was really close to the beach and some good local eateries. The spaces that aren't double are narrow and directly on top of your neighbors, many of whom were not very pleasant. I will say that the camp host all the way at the very end of the park was so nice and even offered to let us use her fire pit if we needed to. The girl in the office was trying to accommodate us but didn't seem pleased about it. read more

"It'll do." We stayed in a 24' RV at Coastal Dunes RV Park during the first week of August 2021. This is a two to three star facility that does the job but there are certainly better campsites. Bottom line: I would only go back if there were no other options. Pros: They had space when other locations did not (which tells you something). Staff was helpful and efficient at check in. I needed to reduce our stay from three nights to two and the front desk team provided the appropriate refund without any hassles. You can walk to Pismo beach (a little less than a mile). Sites are generally grass and, for the most part, reasonably level. Other campers more or less followed rules and quiet times but I did not get the sense that these were enforced by the staff - a bit of the luck of the draw in terms of the crowd that is there during your stay. Cons: This is a county facility and it's shame that there is not more effort to make it more appealing. Most of the bathrooms lacked soap and paper towels but were clean enough (with hot and cold water) - don't go in with high expectations. The location is not ideal - the campsites are between an AMTRAK line and the PCF. The train runs infrequently and train noise really wasn't much of an issue, but the freeway noise sticks around until the evening. Few shade trees. Not every site has a fire ring. read more

This was our first time staying here. We booked here because everywhere else was booked in the area. We didn't know what to expect and tried to be optimistic that it was going to be a decent place to stay. The sites are very confusing as to which side of your trailer you are supposed to park your vehicle. We arrived at 10 PM and the next morning there was a parking notice on our vehicle which at first looked like a ticket. We didn't know there would be a lot of tent campers. The first night they were loud and were one site away. The second night was a lot worse because we had tent campers right next to us literally. The sites are way too close together. The neighbors were loud at night and loud at 7AM including a barking dog. It would have been nice if the park would enforce noise as well as they do parking . Our site was right next to the road and railroad tracks which was also loud. The only positive things I can say were the price was affordable and the park is pretty close to beach access. In the future this park will only be a last resort if nothing else is available. read more

Office is open 9AM-7PM. If you come in after these hours, just check in the next day. This place is nothing special. Has bonfire pits, outlets, and water faucets. Each lot is large enough to fit one RV or two regular cars and a few tents. It's right next to a busy street, so it will be pretty loud at night. There's a swimming pool. The bathrooms and showers aren't that clean. Hot water stops running past 10PM. This place is simply not worth the price. read more

Yes, the park is between Highway 1 and railroad tracks, but that is not what makes it a dump. The county needs to make some changes to reduce the over-crowding. Sites can have an RV and/or tent(s), so on a summer weekend, vehicles are lined up to the edge of the (brown) grass, making it look far more like a parking lot than campground. Many campgrounds we have been to have limits on tents at RV sites. Doing so here would allow for vehicles to park in a reasonable location in their site, rather than parallel-parked along the road. On the other hand, you could allow to have only one to two tents at a site, providing the same result of more space along the road. Creating more space along the road reduces the parking lot-like effect of the campground, allows for drivers to drive and park their campers more easily, gives children an area where they can ride their bikes without dodging parked cars. Place a limit on vehicles per spot (one RV and a car or two cars) and hold to it. People have an RV, truck plus a trailer with off-road vehicles in one spot. Maybe there already is this two-vehicle limits policy in effect, but you wouldn't know it if you went there. Then, there are the homeless people. Yes, campgrounds are a cheaper place for them to stay than a hotel. Problem: people do not want to camp near homeless people because generally, they smoke, steal, litter and cuss. There were two foul homeless guys in our site when we arrived after check-in time (3:00). They should have been gone at check-out time (11:00). There was a four-hour window that the campground host (one site over) or a park employee could have had them move. Nope. Letting homeless people just hang out with other campers' unguarded items seems to be the general policy. Lots of ants. We never used the restrooms. This campground is an embarrassment to a county resident. The quality of a campground, dictates the price and the type of campers you will have. The quality is so low, you get not what you pay for, but what is left in a high-demand area. You cannot camp btwn the highway and train and expect quiet. You're more likely going to be annoyed by your neighbors - campers who think it's a rave or homeless people with poor camping manners. Sure, "book at the state park if you want a better campground" they say. Go ahead, book at 6:00 AM six months in advance. If not, take the last-resort Campground of the Central Coast: Coastal Dunes. read more

The park is county owned and operated. They have some residents living at the park full time. Permanent resident areas isn't very well maintained, as they have over grown weeds. The RV park is near the monarch butterfly park and Pismo Beach. Walking distance to down town. Unfortunately this park has nobody to enforce the noise levels at night. Most guests during the night we heard arguing and screaming. The park has a sign posted near the laundry room to call law enforcement for any issues during the night. The park is located with in 25 feet of the railroad tracks . The Amtrak goes throughly least 4-5 during the day. Last one around 8 pm. The park is also by the highways. If you want a quiet place, I don't advise you to stay here. They offer restrooms and a shower which are poorly maintained. They do not offer sinks to wash dishes. They have a well maintained pool and laundry room. I attempt to call several times during the day and had no luck having anyone answer the phones. They do have someone at the check in during normal business hours. Dogs are allowed at this park. Camp sites are large enough for two trailers or a trailer and a tent. We unfortunately was placed by very Sketchy people that screamed morning, new and night. When I tried to speak with the park ranger in the morning , they didn't appear Interested in the men causing the Ruckus in the middle of the night. The park has absolutely no security and nobody monitoring when you come in and out. Gator left open 24 hours a day seven days a week. They do offer overnight tenting for Guest on bicycles. read more

I just sent this to the reservation email address: We are just leaving the park after a three night stay., I would like to register my complaints about various issues with our stay. 1) Your website says there is cable TV. However, it says NOTHING about needing a digital box to receive a signal. We wasted a couple of hours the first night trying to get a signal before we were told about the need to have a digital box and gave up. I think it is misleading advertising to have this requirement for equipment we did not have, and about which we were not informed by either the website OR by the person who checked us in, to get the service we paid for. I think we should receive a refund for this, as did the people in the site next to us. 2) The bathroom near our site was GROSS. It was filthy, insects were crawling in through cracks in the walls, the showerheads needed replacing, the gasket around the knob was hanging loose, leading to mold, mildew and rot within the wall between the shower stalls, and the floor of the shower was unspeakable. 3) There were drug deals going down right next to the bathroom in broad daylight. Nevermind the violent police incident with a domestic violence suspect Saturday afternoon. 4) For $49/night plus user fee, why no wifi?? Another disappointment (albeit one that was at least posted on the website). Glad it was only a three night stay. read more

This place could be so great if Encore would just put some money into it. It seems the amount we spend for reservations could make this place a fantastic place for the kids. Closing the lower bathrooms at 6 PM doesn't help our attitude about this place. You say it's for water conservation but it's really for keeping the homeless out of the bathrooms, there are better ways to do that. If you really wanted to save water you'd fix your leaky faucets. The place is old and getting older, posts are rotting away, it is just tooooo funky. Maybe get your permanent residents to clean up their little homesteads would help, a little at least. You have at least two hoarders staying there, and they all have rust buckets homes. Your pictures show a nice horse ride on the beach; it takes half the horse ride time to get to the beach then you have to turn around and come back. Not again for us. read more

Bottom line up front: don't camp here unless you have 4 walls and a door (and ear plugs) We wanted to tent camp at north beach but it was closed so we scrambled to find a spot. That's what this place is if you're in a tent:a last resort. We were tent camping in the maverick loop with a family who was in a trailer and they slept much better than we did. The road noise is pretty good but it dies down after 9pm, train only comes by at 9pm and again in the early morning some days. Those I can deal with since were camped between a train track and the coastal highway. The stop lights and the lead footed assholes driving out of the OHV area were frustrating BUT it was the loud music, profanity laced and drunken partying well after quiet hours that was the worst. Ranger hours in the winter don't even make it to quiet hours at 10pm so call the sherif dispatch and they'll roll through Clean showers and bathroom though. read more

We ended up at this campground because the two other campgrounds in the area were sold out. The proper name should be Coastal Dump. It's situated between a highway and a railroad track (about 75 feet from each) no WIFI, the sites are tiny, and they charge $3.50 per dog per night! If this is the only place available, go to a different city or stay home. read more

By far my worst night at a campground in my life Tweakers everywhere and they do not sleep staff does not drive around to ensure quiet hours are being met. Do not leave anything outside that you do not want to be stolen. Redding California had safer campgrounds than this. This is one of the worst places I ever stayed in. They let to many park in these sites that it has become a dangerous hazard. I cannot get my RV out without having to have two trucks move. This long narrow park is sandwiched between train tracks and busy street. If you like noise and filth, you'll love this park. Typical government run outfit, no pride of ownership, minimal maintenance. We were there peak season and there were people stuffed everywhere. The large TT next to us also had a large tent set up under the awning and I don't know how many people stayed there. The outfit on our other side was a large tent with garbage, empty beer/soda cans and junk everywhere. We didn't even get near the pool or toilets, yuck. This is the low rent district for sure. Thankful we only spent one of our two nights in this dump. read more

My family and I have been camping here for the last 7 years and we absolutely love it. If you have a large family and need lots of space for tents and people it's the perfect place. Its walking diatance to the beach which is awesome. Its also a huge plus that the whole park is pet friendly since we have 4 dogs and they always travel with us. The only down fall is the park is right by a main road and the Amtrak train tracks are directly behind the park. Otherwise its an awesome place to bring your friends and family for an amazing time. read more

Sandwiched between a major roadway and a train track. Too much traffic noise, even at night. We had a pull through angled spot with the rv facing south. If we followed the one-way road arrow when exiting we should have turned right. Not going to happen with large RVs parked on both sides of ours. To safely exit this spot we had to turn left. This put us on a one-way road going the wrong direction. read more

For the past few days I have been trying to search for a campsite (tent only since we do not own an RV). NO LUCK UNTIL TODAY!!! I am writing this review not because of my camping experience there yet but because of the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE I received over the phone this afternoon. MS. STEPHANIE, the lady who assisted me over the phone, was VERY PLEASANT, INFORMATIVE, and VERY HELPFUL. After letting her know I only need tent camping, she informed me they were all booked for the weekend. I felt very sad. Right when I was ready to say "thank you" and hang up, she offered availability for RV camping. I was very surprised because I thought you need an RV to camp in an RV site; apparently not and I was very ecstatic to learn about it! She informed me about the park amenities and warned me about the site being located right next to the railroad tracks, which means we will be exposed to the noise every time a train passes by. I told her that train noise does not bother me and that I was just very thankful to find a place to stay. I simply appreciate her honesty. She was very patient with me and answered all the questions I had. For this alone, I am rating this campsite a 5 star because of the wonderful experience I had over the phone. IT'S VERY HARD TO FIND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE NOWADAYS. My children and I are very excited and we're looking forward to this weekend! Lesson I learned from this campsite search experience: PLAN AHEAD AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE!!! I just found out you can actually make them 6 months in advance. I surely did not know this! I'm a fulltimer, we've been here for almost a year..it's a little closer to tracks and freeway then the other camp grounds here in the area, but it's cheaper then other camp sites, the people and staff are SUPER FRIENDLY!!! My fiance and I enjoyed a fun weekend at the Coastal Dunes RV park, and the weather was great. Fairly priced, and the utilities were what you would expect. Only complaint would be one of the employees would constantly follow my fiance into the bathroom, go into the stall next to her, literally just flush the toilet, then walked right out. This happened multiple times, so I thought that was a little weird, but otherwise a nice stay. read more

We stayed here for our very first time in August 2019, and we have over 20+ years of RV camping experience in our travel trailer. We've stayed at many places. We rate this place 3.5 Stars out of 5 Stars. It has full hook ups and many sites. They have a pool, restrooms with showers and washers/dryers. I didn't understand all the bad reviews re: the noise, traffic and the train? We too thought that would be an issue, but honestly the noise of train nor traffic didn't bother us at all while we were inside our trailer. If you're in a tent, yes this would be an issue for you. We had a great extra site that allowed us to park our trailer in site and park our truck next door in a dual site. Price per night was very affordable, same price as the State campground and not nearly the same amenities. The bathrooms need to be upgraded, but we didn't need them since we have our trailer. We would totally stay here again. Pismo is a place we go to often, and this place would be on our list to return to. read more

We have camped here for years when this was a privately own campground. Since SLO County took it over it has digressed. The full time resident sites are unkept with "junk" stacked up. We had a family vacation there for six nights with six different camp sites from August 2-9, 2015. We couldn't get sites next to each other so we were scattered over the south end of the park. During our stay, my sons fishing pole and soda pop was stolen, our friends wagon was stolen and the next night they came back and attempted to steal my grandsons bicycle. We spoke to several other campers who also had items stolen during several of the nights we were there. There is a LARGE homeless encampment in the bushes just to the north of the campground and the county allows the transients to live there. My son sat up during the night watching and at about 5 am, a group of about 15 transients entered the park (like they were shopping at Wal Mart) and when my son spoke to a female who had entered his campsite she fled on foot out of the campground along with the others. My other son caught a male stealing an ice chest and when confronted by my son the transient dropped the ice chest and ran. These thefts were reported to the police department and office personnel who said they couldn't do anything. The fence between the railroad tracks and the campsites has been cut in numerous places allowing the transients to enter the park. We will no longer camp at this campground! And, when I told the manager we would not return unless the transient camp was demolished, all he could say was he was sorry for our loss and he couldn't do anything about the transients. Pismo Coast Village, here we come! I only gave this one star because Yelp wouldn't let me post without it. I'd give it a minus five stars! read more
