Bathrooms, showers, water fountain, outer sink
Winnie Y.

I stayed at campsite #36 which is right across one of the bathrooms and in between 2 water spigots. From what I can see, the campsites are generally spaced far apart from one another which is good for privacy despite the lack of trees around. My site had 1 picnic table and 1 fire pit. No animal box because the only animals around (so far) are birds and squirrels which will definitely eat your food if left unsupervised for long periods. Showers and bathrooms are well maintained and clean and are all single occupancy (ex: just 1 toilet per "room"). The campground was full but I never had any issues with the bathrooms and showers being full. No paper towels or soap provided, so be sure to bring your own. Shower water heats up very quickly and stay hot which is great. FYI the showers don't accept quarters. You'll need to trade bills for CA State Park shower tokens. Given the campground is next to the beach, plan appropriately for the strong winds and dewy mornings. Family friendly and walking distance to the water and other attractions. Good for large groups but keep in mind there is a 2 car maximum for most sites though you can add in an extra car for $5 more if space allows. There was a ranger at the gate when I drove in, but my friends said nobody was there when they came, so the safety/security of the place is unknown. Overall, no major complaints about this campground. I would come again.

Very nice and relaxing camp ground close to the beach. Will fit more than the allowed person per spot. A big campground not only for tent but also for RV's, they also have a dump site in there. Nice and clean restrooms. Will definitely recommend.

Pismo, North Beach Campground, Pismo Beach, California - April 7-11, 2025 We've been to Pismo Beach many times in our motorhome. We've always stayed at the RV campground just next to the State Beach Campground. I have to say I like the State Beach Campground quite a bit better even though it doesn't have electric or water or sewer hookups. The spaces are very spacious with lots of green lawn and trees and bushes here and there, and the park is verywell-maintained. There is a short walk to the beach, and the beach itself is stellar. They do have a dump station if you need to dump your tanks or refill your water. We were able to go a full five days without needing to do that. They have nice well-maintained bathrooms and showers. You pay with a token (two for one dollar), and get you two minutes in the shower per token. They have fire pits and picnic tables. Camp host near our site was very friendly and the park staff were friendly and seem to be maintaining the park very well.

Campsite, no trees
Kari H.

First time at this NB Pismo campsite, we've never camped somewhere with NO TREES, this was not the best site bc we only brought a tent, we figured there would be 1 or 2 trees to give us shade or have a place to hang our wet towels and suits but no. Everyday the bathrooms and showers were cleaned and maintained, they also have recycle, green/food and large trash bins to sort your waste. The beach is just over the dunes, a short walk to a beautiful and clean beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed staying here most of the time, but the state park needs to plant more trees on these barren sites. Bring dollar bills to get shower tokens, warm blankets as well as sleeping bags for the cool nights, or just bring an RV, our stay would've been better with one

Gift shop at the Monarch Grove nearby.

My sister and I camped here and enjoyed the fact that we were so close to the beach. But that we could also access the Monarch Grove from the campground. At the time that we went rain and wind was in the forecast. Although the Little Guy teardrop trailer was in tow I made sure to bring a canopy with sides (basically a tent, when set up) to be able to sit outside of the trailer. Site #41- I never complain with a pull-thru sight! Although I am getting pretty good at backing up with a trailer this just makes life easier. Also, being on a paved surface when you have wet weather makes hitching up mess and pain free (speaking for myself). The pull-thru is spacious. The area where we pitched our canopy were flanked with a picnic table with a fire pit nearby. The restroom/showers were not too far from either side of us. It made it nice, because if one was being cleaned and serviced you could go to the other building. Both buildings are nicely lit up during the evening hours. May not be ideal if you are staying in a tent nearby. Not all of the stalls/showers were open during the week, but once the weekend came all were available to use. Showers are operable with tokens, which the token machine was available at certain buildings. From our site you have access to the beach and Monarch Grove within hundreds of feet. The grounds were well taken care of and you had rangers frequently driving by. Near our site a camp host was close by. I like how the sites are spaced out giving you some privacy but could still enjoy the other campers enjoying the outdoors. My sister was able to enjoy some great food at nearby restaurants, and enjoy some cinnamon rolls at Old West Cinnamon Rolls. There could be a long wait so go early. I would definitely camp here again!

Fun times at the beach.

Site 81 was close to perfect. Neighboring sites was spaced enough keeping the experience private for the most part. It beats the commercial RV park next door where I stayed a few years ago. Inconsiderates were walking through our site as well as our neighbors in efforts to take a shortcut to the beach. Yes, it's a public campground but for the days we reserved it's temporarily ours. There is a reason walkways exist. Be considered folks! Dump station had a 10 dollar fee and credit cards are accepted. These fees are becoming standard these days in state parks. I'm not a fan of it. However, given the fee the dump station appears to be maintained so it was worth it. During our stay, I've walked the beach for a mile or so to experience their local eateries. That alone was a plus. There wasn't a need to drive.

I am not a camper. I live 10 miles away in Arroyo Grande. I walk through the campgound on a daily basis as part of my exercise rountine. I have talked to many campers at various times of the year and all agreed that it is probably one of the best campgrounds in the Country. It is like camping on a golf course. You have tons of space. It is exceptionally well maintained. There is noise toward the back of the campground. It is the Ocean just over a sand dune. The beach is 15 miles long. Dogs are welcome. There is a real 9 hole golf course a few blocks away and of course downtown classic California beach town Pismo Beach is a short walk. They do not have hookups or electricy on the premises but you see big rigs and tent campers. The price I believe goes from $27-$45 with a senior discount (depends on time of year, make your reservations 6 months in advance or more). They have a dump station. (You can stay on the other side of the fence, Pismo Coast Village and have hook ups, a small swimming pool, camp store and resturant. The campers have about 20 feet of space between large campers. It is like being in a sardine can. They charge $100 a night, maybe more. I don't believe they allow tents. Go to the store and dozens of resturants in nereby Pismo. Forget the pool and take your chances in the ocean (cold)). If your into the butter flies the grove backs up to the campground. Check for dates they are there. As far as the employees are concerned at the State Campground maybe some are cranky but I never noticed anything. There is an onsite manager to take care of issues. If they tell you that you are making too much noise or violating polices YOU ARE. Believe me no one is anxious to get involed in telling people what to do. It's a lay back area. Plus, the State Park Rangers drive though a few times a day and at night. If there has been substantial rain in the week before you arrive they may close the campground because it is on a flood plain. I was there on several days after our 2" rain. The campground was flooded but only the lowest lying areas. Lots of little "lakes" that the ducks found accomodating. Flood did not get up to more than a few camping sites. So far this year, rain but not enough for closures. The water usual perculates into the ground pretty fast. If you have stuck it out and read my entire review here is a bonus. If you have a problem you can't resolve with the onsite emplyees Kevin Pearce is the Chief Ranger off site in Pismo Beach. He runs the entire Oceno State Park. He will get the email if it is Monday-Friday during working hours. Otherwise, he has the info and will get back to you: Kevin.Pearce@parks.ca.gov. If you are a name dropper that is the name to drop.

Token machine for shower

We had a great time, the campgrounds are big and spacious. Majority of the sites are pull thru. They are struck on 2 vehicles limit. Any extras cars can park outside near the entrance on the street. Plenty of showers and restrooms, you can also walk to the beach. Plenty to do around the city. Also if you camp here you can drive on the océano dunes, they waive the fee with your campsite permit on the windshield.

This was my first time camping by the beach so I wasn't sure what to expect. Booked it last minute on reservecalifornia which was easy enough. The weather looked like it was going to be cold at night, so I brought a bunch of blankets. As we rolled up to the kiosk, the man asked us if it was our first time and told us "have fun!" as we drove away. That was nice. So we started driving to find our spot, and realized it is like a gigantic park, with paved roads and parking spots and grass for the tent, picnic table, and fire ring. There weren't as many trees as I would've liked, and we had a center spot (92) and the lack of privacy was kind of meh, just this huge open space of grass. You could see everybody and everybody could see you. Well on the other hand, the lack of privacy was good because we saw people setting up their tents and putting covers over them. What was that all about? We had better do it too, we thought. Well good thing, because around midnight, it started raining. This gentle drizzle. Is this common in these parts? I have no idea. Anyway, our tarp covered most of our tent so we mostly stayed dry, but it was startling for sure. You can not see the beach from the campsite but you can kind of hear the ocean in the middle of the night when things finally got quiet. The grass did help make the ground less hard to sleep on too. Compared to camping in the woods, the nice thing is there aren't tons of bugs vying to get your food. It wasn't the most peaceful or beautiful place by any means, the family next to us was having epic arguments over a game they were playing and I could hear everything. Except I couldn't figure out what game they were playing. The picnic table was unfortunately in a dirty state. Next time I would bring a table cloth. In the morning we went to go check out the butterfly grove which is like a hop and a skip away. Nice place for a morning walk. But there were no butterflies yet, the season is Nov-Feb per sign. Bathrooms were decently clean, flushing toilets and well-lit.

Amazing value. This place is clean and safe with tons of nature trails and paths to the beach. Restrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. I definitely recommend it and will stay here again myself.

Car glamping at its finest! My reasons for loving this campground are three fold: 1 - short walk to the beach 2 - flushing toilets with ample toilet paper! 3 - showers This campground is well maintained. They come to clean the bathrooms daily. There are large campsites that hold 3 vehicles and your neighbors aren't close enough to hear you snore. To add, its all about - location, location, location! The beach is a hop, skip and a jump away. If you wanted to you can walk to Pismo Beach Pier for dining or shopping. The Pismo Dunes with rental companies are a 5 minute drive away. We've camped here twice and enjoyed it both times. We will be back! Quick Tips *Campsites hold 3 cars but only 2 cars come with free parking. The 3rd car has to pay $5 per day. They also have free over flow parking at the front of the campground. *Bring cash for the showers! There is a machine that dispenses tokens. $1 token for 2 minutes of shower. The showers weren't too bad at all, a very comfortable temperature. *You can go fishing & clamming on Pismo Beach. Make sure you get the proper licenses. I read you can get them at Kmart.

They don't enforce the rules here. We had a loud party of about 20 people next to us. We complained multiple times to the camp host, even after quiet hours they were blasting music and swearing. The rules say no more then 8 people to a site and that the noise you make shouldn't be loud enough to leave your campground regardless of what time of the day it is, but these people didn't care. It totally ruined our trip. This is reflective of the campground because the rules were not enforced with these people for some reason. I go camping to be in nature and escape. I don't want to listen to loud music and drunk loud people swearing and yelling. I hope your experience is different here.

Just after sunset.
