    Sea lions off pier

This was our second time staying at Flying Flags, and it was just as wonderful as the first. The cottages are perfect for a little getaway, with phenomenal ocean views that make it hard to leave. We especially enjoyed sitting on our back porch and having a bonfire while overlooking the ocean -- such a relaxing way to end the day. It's a short walk to the pier where you can get closer to the sea lions or watch the fishermen come in. You can also easily walk or take a short drive into town to enjoy the shops and wineries. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the people are genuinely kind. We'll definitely be back.

We stayed in the jute tents . Though it was a chilly evening we were warm and cozy snuggled beneath their push comforter and crispy white sheets . A solar-juiced power outlet was available for charging our phones etc and lamps were provided as well. We enjoyed the breathtaking "ocean overlook "view at check in , and we were glad we took time to enjoy that view The view was not there in the Morning Time because of fog . We (smugly) threw ourselves a little "arrival reception party "with the refreshments we brought in anticipation of our "GLAMPING " road-trip-pit-stop enjoying the wold class panorama from "our"porch "Cheers ! The plan was always to down to the peir to eat at an excellent restaurant "Merseas" . We have often enjoyed Merseas clam strips and shrimp as we pass through on road trips . We recommend sitting outside at the (heated) patio tables for the most amazing views and wildlife watching. We never fail to spot sea otters harbor seals and sea lions from Avila Pier . It was so amazingly nice to spend the night this time ?At Flying Flags , listening to the seal lions "bark"'and the crash of the ocean waves .... all night long .

Turns out "glamping" is just regular camping but with working plumbing and your dignity intact. You have a choice of parking your RV, renting a cottage or the glamping option with yurt style tents. The beach is walkable, the facilities are spotless, and there's a section of beach for your pooch so bring her. They'd get five stars but the last one wandered off to find cell service and never came back.

Had a fabulous peaceful stay at the cutest little cottage overlooking the water with our pup. We absolutely loved the views from our spacious private patio with a fire pit. The cottage itself was cozy but comfortable for two humans and a medium-sized pup. They even had a little welcome basket for him which was so cute. We loved strolling around the property grounds itself and also how convenient it was to walk to the port and the dog beach. It was a little bit of a bummer not to have a kitchen or even a microwave unlike the cottages at their Buellton location but we came prepared and brought a hot plate and dishware and there was still a sizeable mini-fridge to keep all our food.

Just like every other camp site, this place has some pros and cons. Overall, I'd recommend this place. Pros: almost every site has an ocean view. Everything is new, clean and organized. The customer service is INCREDIBLE - from the check in, to the gift shop to maintenance crew. Everyone is extremely professional and polite and attentive. This place is walking distance to the local dog beach and some places to eat. Wi-Fi, clean bathrooms & showers available here. Propane fire pits are available for $25 a day with complimentary tank refills. Cons: sites are really close together, so bring earplugs or sleeping pills if you're a light sleeper. Hills are steep to the main bathrooms/showers. So if you struggle with walking up hills, they offer porta potties with no sinks in most areas. No water fountains to fill up water bottles, bring your own water supplies. Dog friendly place, so be prepared to hear barking dogs at times throughout the day/night. The pros definitely outweigh the cons for me. I cannot wait to return here in the near future.

What an unbelievably beautiful RV resort! Truly the best place we've ever been to with our RV. (We live in NorCal and outside of California we have only been to Oregon so take this statement with a grain of salt LOL). Scalloped into the hill above the cove, it has fhu along with cable TV (we so appreciate this. Many places don't). Each site has a propane fire pit. We got an "enhanced" view and boy they were not wrong. There are more expensive spots higher up but really no need to spend the extra money. And the RV sites are super far apart. No crowding like in Pismo Beach. This is a quiet lovely spot, however we are here in January and that might explain the solitude. There are also couple cabins and they look lovely too. There is laundry and a tiny market with souvenir clothing and treats and free coffee. There is a large area with Adirondack chairs, propane heaters (at some gathering spots), corn hole, bocce balls and heaters. All with Avila bay views. Short walk to the Harford Pier where you'll find Fat Cats and Mersea along the way. Both restaurants. And don't forget the barking sea lions! Pelicans! Sea gulls! Book now. I suspect this place is gonna be super popular and Flying Flags will be rolling in the money. Totally worth it. We will be back. Thank you!

This is our 4th year coming here. Amazing place to visit, the resort is super clean and what a great staff !we recommend flying flags to all our friends and others we meet at coach resorts. You can't ask for a better view from your site. Alot to do here and in port san luis or in pismo, morrow bay. You can come here with a motorcoach needing full hookups or dry camp, tents or they even have cottages. Book well in advance if you want to co.e here as they fill up fast. GREAT JOB FLYING FLAGS AVILA BEACH STAFF!

    Morning coffee on the balcony

We stayed the night in the premium ocean view cottage and loved it, bed was comfortable, had wine glasses and Nespresso coffee. High recommend. Views are amazing. There's a fire pit outside on the balcony, it was so cozy and cute.

Great views, great experience. Helpful woman when making reservations. Also lovely when onsite. Chad brought us our propane tank. He was sweet and full of helpful information. The bathrooms are well kept. Great communication via text.

Stayed here for the first time. Three nights in a tent campsite. The view was spectacular, the amenities were wonderful, and most the staff were friendly and helpful. They have 2 sets of bathroom/showers that are super clean & well maintained. There is a free laundry room, and even a free drink station with coffee, tea, & hot cocoa. The game area is fun as well (corn hole, bocce, yard sized connect 4 & table jenga). The only reason for less than a 5 star review is for the lack of willingness to allow us to upgrade to a bungalow when we were cold on night #2 (we were told the empty ones "hadn't been inspected yet" so they couldn't let us rent them... Other than the high winds of May...we will definitely stay here again!

This place is amazeballs!! First time in April, it gets hot when the sun is out Prepare properly or hit the beach. Cold in the evening, just wear a sweater! We had a tent, outdoor kitchen and rental Ford explorer in our spot CT5. It's a bit crowded especially if you have neighbors but totally worth it. Plan on going many more times before they higher the prices for tent camping or get rid of it entirely. I don't believe other Flying Flags sites allow tents. The RV sites are spectacular but don't have one so no opinion here. We will be going soon again but this time we will try and choose our spot, if it's allowed. Viva Flying Flags Avila!!! Ooooohhh! And customer service was amazing! Everyone was outstanding 10 stars

Spacious and private. We love the relaxing atmosphere and peaceful vibes. Beautiful views.

Can't see the ocean.:-( Which is what we paid for.

Cons: You are camping right next to the freeway, so it is a little noisy. A lot of kids running around. One night there was a pack of teen or pre-teens out until almost 11:00 being so loud, I was hoping before then someone would come have them quiet down. The showers in the bathroom: there are no "shelves or racks" to put your bottles on and the shower curtains are way too short. The bathroom was completely out of paper towels Friday morning. They don't clean/stock the bathrooms every day. Weeds are growing everywhere, it's just the little things, but it's noticeable. I wish they'd put up fences all the way between all campsites. Flag policy: come on Highway West!! Be consistent!! We were at Costanoa and there was no written flag policy ANYWHERE, and the made us take my No Shoes Nation flag down (Kenny Chesney) and here there was an RV with a military flag and they let them leave that up. The rules had only the American flag was to be flown here -I respect the military-but, the rules are inconsistent at all the Highway West Properties!
