We had a great time. I had never done this before and it was exciting and nerve racking. Overall I have minimal feedback. 1) we waited on the beach for an hour to be picked up. We didn't get picked up until we called after 1 hour. 2) the checkout process was a little confusing with the waivers. I think it could have been explained a little clearer but there was a lot of paperwork and a lot of info to take in at one time. We thought we understood the waiver deposit was fully refundable but when all was said and done we were charged an extra $100 when we would have just made the full deposit. And so that part was confusing and slightly off putting. Back to the positive. The car we got worked perfectly. I recommend coming in Feb the off season. We basically had the place to ourselves. This is the 2nd time I took my kiddo (now 12) today to Steve's ATV. Easy check-in and amazing experience (shuttle, sign-in, sign-out). The only thing I am not happy about is the check-in time of 1 hour prior or 1.5 hours on weekends; find a way to expedite it (online forms filled out, etc) so that I can spend time wisely. We'll be back in just one month (February) as the kiddo wants to celebrate his birthday riding ATV here!! read more

I have been wanting to ride ATVs for forever now, and finally got to do it this weekend. My friends and I had this booked for a few weeks now, and we were so excited to go do it. In our group of 4, it was 3 of our first times, and we had no idea what to expect. Steve's ATV made it easy and straightforward to understand. Once we were at the loading area for the ATVs, we geared up, and an instructor showed us how to use the vehicles. We got the automatic Kymco, which are supposed to be good for first timers. We also did the early bird special, which gave us an extra hour (9am-12pm), for the price of 2 hours. At first, riding it was pretty scary, but gradually it became easier. They also provide you with a map tell you where you can and cannot got. There's also markers throughout the sand dunes that are numbered to help you identify where you are. It was a little rainy that morning, but overall super fun! I was only able to do it for about 1.5 hours, and then got tired after that. read more

Disappointed as we heard great things about Steve's from a number of sources. I came here with a large group for a bachelor party and the majority of the vehicles seemed to be in need of service even though we only had them for a few hours. We had two vehicles break down, which isn't a big deal but a ton of the vehicles were audibly making weird noises the longer we rode. We had an ATV break down or overheat. My personal vehicle started to rattle and had trouble gaining and keeping speed up hills. It seemed as if the vehicles weren't in the best shape to be taken out as some of them lasted the whole excursion while others seemed to fall apart. One of our party members "broke" a belt while driving about 10 MPH on a flat surface of the dunes. While this can happen, I saw it firsthand and wasn't caused by any crazy maneuver, it was an overuse break. When we brought this up to the worker, they told us that belts can break by "going too fast or too slow, driving on sand, or over dunes." The other workers were very helpful which is why this is getting a 2 instead of 1. The bus driver is a super nice lady who is very talkative and informative about the excursion. read more

I've come to Pismo periodically with my daughters during school breaks. This is the first time with this business. Elevated professionalism and staff. I haven't had issues with prior vendors, but this spot is superior - On a separate note and this is more about an exceptional employee - my kid dropped her phone. I asked Gabe for assistance with locating the gps location via the phone which is wonky because of the location. Gabe expertly and kindly navigated the iPhone to point me in the right direction. When I couldn't locate it, and I arrived to report this, he jumped on an ATV with my phone. He went to the location of the gps coordinates. We stopped by the beach the day before our dune ride and were greeted by the sweetest, most informative woman (I wish I had gotten her name). She was so patient and kind, asking great questions about our group size, ages, and what we were planning to do. She gave us awesome suggestions and made us feel really excited about coming the next day. When we checked in the next day, the office was super busy and we were a few minutes late (they do ask you to arrive early). Customer service there wasn't quite as warm, but honestly I don't hold it against them because of how hectic it was. Once we got to the area to pick up our ATVs, everything went smoothly. We watched a 15-20 minute safety video, got our gear, and then met the staff assigning vehicles. The guy helping us noticed we were late and made sure to adjust our time so we still got the full experience. That really meant a lot because I was worried we'd lose some of our ride time. During our ride, the belt on our dune buggy broke while we were on flat ground, which was unexpected. But we called the number on the vehicle, and the team came out quickly with a replacement. Best part is they didn't charge us for it. Overall, the customer service was great, we had an awesome experience, and I'll definitely be booking with Steve's ATV again. read more

This was a fun, unique experience for the Pismo Beach area! We booked for a one hour ride on a Saturday morning. Because it's busier on the weekends we had to arrive an hour and a half early to make sure we got all of our paperwork settled. Even though you sign a waiver online, you are still required to sign one in person on the day of your drive. After completing the paperwork, which took about 45 minutes, we walked down to the beach and hopped on a shuttle that drove us about five minutes down to where the ATVs are lined up. We watched a 15 minute safety video then set up with our helmets and goggles before we made our way to the instructor to set us up with our ATVs. Since we only booked an hour, we thought it would be plenty of time to enjoy the dunes. I felt like it was enough time, but my boyfriend wished we booked for two hours for the following reason: once you hop on your ATV, they start your one hour timer and tell you to drive down to the entrance of the dunes. The dune entrance is about seven minutes away from where the ATVs are stationed. So in total you lose about 15 minutes of your actual experience just by driving the ATVs to the entrance. Again, I did not mind this, but my boyfriend was frustrated that it felt like we did not get a the full hour as a result. You are also not really provided any instructions on the use of the machine other than the video you watch before hopping on and a quick two minute demo from an employee when they clip your helmet down. I almost wish they would do a general demo at the storefront before making your way down to the beach because once on the beach, you can't even hear anything that the people are saying because the ATVs are so loud. Overall, this is a unique experience for Pismo Beach and it is also good for older children to do with their family. If I did it again, I would probably book the two hours because most people want more time than me lol. read more

Sighhhh...what a disappointment! Came as a family of four and rented a RZR UTV for an hour. Arrival time is at least an hour before your scheduled start time for paperwork, the ride down to the dunes, and the safety video. Decided to get the insurance since it was our first time at the dunes. After signing the paperwork we were picked up at the beach by a shuttle and ridden down to the trailer where we watched the safety video and got our equipment. Helmets are included and goggles were rented at $5 each. We rode the dunes for about 15 mins until our vehicle just stopped. Called for help and waited in that spot for about 20 minutes. Someone came out with a replacement UTV and we switched over. The person confirmed a busted chain in the first one. Even the replacement vehicle struggled to get up some of the hills on the way back and were worried it would break down as well. Needless to say we were just ready to go at this point. Got back and requested a partial refund but was only offered a credit. We drove about 45 mins. out from our hotel to get here and did not have time to return the next day. The busted chain seems to be a common issue with this business. I would therefore not recommend this business. read more

This place is running a racket. At the initial sign up they emphasize the customer is responsible for belt breaks multiple times and it cost $200 unless you buy the $125 insurance. At the dunes during the training period they mention the belts four or five more times. We were assigned the UTV at 4:25pm and by 4:40 we were in a UTV that would no longer move. I assumed it was the belt because the wheels didn't move. It was cold and windy and we had to wait 20 minutes for them to bring us another UTV. They arrived with the UTV and didn't even ask what happened and just unloaded the other one. The ride back was worst than the ride there because the UTV felt like it wanted to give out a few times. The guy Steve seemed a little sympathetic but basically said he couldn't give any type of refund. He said we could get some time back, but there was no way we were going back out there. Unless they put on a new belt for every reservation, how can they determine who wore the belt out? If we rode for 15 minutes, to me it is obvious the previous riders did some damage to the belt. At the initial sign up one of the workers said she knew how not to break a belt because she rode ATV's since she was two years old. If you are a first timer or beginner be prepared to pay for a new belt because they will just say you didn't something wrong to break the belt. read more

Steve's ATV Rentals provided a smooth reservation experience, from customer service to ATV training and the ride itself. We initially booked a morning ride with a Honda 250cc manual for me and a Kymco 270 automatic for my son. However, on that particular morning, the tide was way too high for Steve's to bring their ATVs out onto the beach. Taylor thoughtfully called us the day before to reschedule for the afternoon. The Honda 250 was just like riding a dirt motorcycle but forgiving on the sand. The shift pattern was all the way down for Neutral, then up for 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Thumb throttle controls. Plenty of power to climb hills and power slide. Lots of adrenaline fueled fun on the sand. The customer service was outstanding. Taylor was incredibly professional, and the crew at Pole 2 was patient and helpful in every way. They showed my son the controls, and he was able to immediately head out with me for an epic ride on the dunes. The bus driver was also super duper awesome, giving us a pep talk on what to watch out for to ensure we returned safely. I can't recommend Steve's ATV Rentals enough. Came up to Pismo Beach for the weekend for the first time, and I was looking up things to do. Riding an ATV popped up, and that was something I'd never done before but wanted to do, so I said "what the heck?!" I was able to book everything online, which had detailed descriptions of all the vehicles and the options available. I decided to book for early sat morning @10, for 2 hours. They want you to come on an hour and a half early to sign all the forms, take the shuttle, watch the safety video, etc. The check in was super simple, and the guy who showed me how to ride the atv explained everything very well. The actual experience was so cool! Once you leave the training area on the beach, the sand dunes are so expansive!! So much space to drive around and explore! As a first timer, I definitely took my time and didn't try to take any risks going up steep hills and whatnot. But it was so fun getting up to 30-40mph on some of the flat parts, and then trying some of the simpler hills. Plus the views weren't too shabby either! All in all, it was a great time, and if you're looking to rent ATV's the next time you're in Pismo Beach, Steve's definitely got you! read more

SCAM ALERT!! Well how did I figure that when I denied all insurances 27 min into my ride it would break down and I would have to cover damages. So I rented a UTV (corroded old and beaten one btw) for $727 , fine my kids wanted the experience. We didn't ride it right away we went back to campsite to load my kids and wife. We go to the light dunes like the asked us to do and exactly 27 min in the belt busts. No problem we call bc clearly it wasn't our fault, right? NOPE the guy who brought us the replacement uTV said "you can pay for damages when you turn this one in". The heck?! How do you figure? When I went to ask why I had to pay and said it had to be from previous riders, the lady just said "we service all uTVs DAILY and the Grace period where you are NOT responsible for damages after you leave with our vehicle is 20min ". I recently rented an ATV from Steve's ATV in Pismo Beach, and while the experience had its moments, I wouldn't recommend it for first-time riders. The check-in process was fine but a bit confusing, and I would have appreciated more guidance in choosing the right ATV as a beginner. If you book online, rentals only start on the hour, but if you walk in, you can start anytime--which isn't made clear in advance. During check-in, they take a deposit and mention that if it doesn't fall off your card in a few business days, you should call your bank before contacting them. However, this advice is misleading. Authorization holds are initiated by the merchant, and while they typically expire within a few days, the exact timing can vary depending on both the merchant and the issuing bank. If a hold remains longer than expected, it's often more effective to contact the merchant first to ensure they've released the hold, as banks do not have control over pending authorizations. For what it's worth, it took 5 business days (1 week) for the deposit charge to fall off my very common credit card. The shuttle driver was lovely and chatty, but the staff at check-in and helmet distribution trailer were not friendly or helpful. No one checked if my helmet was strapped on correctly--or at all. I had no idea if I had secured it properly, and no one took a second to ensure I was safe before sending me out. That alone made me uneasy. Then, when we got to the ATVs, the staff member briefly pointed out the front and back brakes, but when I asked when to use which, he cut me off with an impatient, "Just confirm you understand this is the front brake and this is the back brake." At that point, I just said "yes" because it was clear I wasn't going to get any real guidance. Between that and the lack of helmet checks, I felt unsafe and dismissed, like they didn't actually care whether I knew what I was doing--only that I signed off on it being my problem if something went wrong. The so-called "safety" video didn't help either. Instead of actual tips on how to ride safely, it was mostly a rundown of all the things they could charge you for. And to top it off, the dunes were incredibly challenging for a beginner. It wasn't until 40 minutes into our hour-long rental that we accidentally found a significantly easier area. A simple explanation of how to reach beginner-friendly dunes would have gone a long way in making this a better experience. And if all that wasn't enough, I was actually hit by a 13-year-old who was jumping his ATV. Yet another reason why the staff should be taking helmet safety more seriously--because clearly, not everyone out there is riding responsibly. Overall, if you're an experienced rider, you might have a better time, but for beginners, the lack of instruction and customer service makes this a frustrating--and frankly unsafe--experience. read more

Amazing! What went well? We had a group of 35 to go ATVing. We rebooked with them and they did a good job with our large party. There are helmets, a safety video & instructions on the beach. Parking is on the side streets and not too far but the street they are located is traffics because our group had a variety of renters and they were able to accommodate all of our wishes. I was very glad that we rented doubles because the have more power to go over dunes. Many single couldn't get up and needed help. I'm going to make this short and sweet. I reserved ATVs on their website a month in advance. I paid $95 each for 3 Kymco Auto ATVs for 2 hour rides. We checked in early in the morning and watched a safety video. I then signed the waivers and paid $100 deposit for each ATV. Getting to the dunes was a breeze. The rental company provided a free shuttle straight to the dunes. We only waited 10 minutes to get picked up. Soon as we arrived, we were fitted for helmets. The process was very quick. 2 of our ATVs were in good condition, however mine seemed to have an alignment issue. I thought it was me but I noticed my ATV kept veering to the left. Because of this, I took a bad fall off my ATV when I hit a dip. Luckily I wasn't hurt. Will definitely rent from this company again. Staff was friendly and we enjoyed our But next time, I'll be more mindful of the condition of my ATV prior to riding more into the dunes and mention it. read more

Worst ATV experience we had the time we wasted going back and forth to their 2 locations. The staff is super rude not being helpful given its out first time on this location.
