My radiant heat was read its last rites. That said, it was time to go shopping for a new HVAC system. After carefully researching and meeting with several HVAC companies, I was extremely impressed by Coastal Air Conditioning, specifically Mike Cerchia, who is their Comfort Advisor. Mike is also a tech and still goes out in the field, as needed. He has outstanding knowledge in the HVAC space. He looked at my current set up and provided us with the best fit for our house, which turned out to be forced hot air. He went over the pros and cons of forced hot air versus baseboard, which I also considered. However, my wife and I decided that forced hot air would be the least invasive option with respect to the post installation repairs that would be required, i.e, painting, sheetrock replacement, etc. As promised, Mike provided me with an estimate same day. I should point out that Mike called me periodically to see if we made a decision and if we had any questions. I informed him that we were still reviewing some of the other estimates/proposals that we have received. What we truly liked about Mike was that he never employed high pressure sales tactics. Whenever I texted him or called him, he replied immediately. If he wasn't available, he would return calls promptly. My wife and I unanimously decided that Coastal distinguished themselves from their competitors and, as such, we awarded them with our business. One of Coastal's Service Coordinators, called me to set up an appointment for a walk through, prior to the installation. Brian Mazzatenta, who is Coastal's Residential Installation Manager, performed the walkthrough and measured out what was needed. Bryan was exceptionally thorough and also has outstanding HVAC acumen. He did an excellent job of setting expectations and delivering against them. He followed up and was always available to address any questions that we had. This past Wednesday the installation began. The two techs who performed the installation were Pat and Riley. Both were outstanding. Very communicative with in depth knowledge. They worked as a cohesive team. As we have a dog we were concerned about her getting loose. Both Pat and Riley were very mindful and eased our concerns. Not only were both Pat and Riley outstanding at their jobs and incredibly reliable, they were both extremely respectful of our property. At one point Pat said that he treats a client's house as if it was his own, which was evident throughout the entire installation process. Both Pat and Riley were also very neat and cleaned up any debris that resulted from the installation. I am pleased to state that the installation has been successfully completed, which also included a new hot water heater. Our new HVAC system - both heat and air - is working fine. Overall, we are exceptionally pleased by the level of technical expertise, service and professionalism that was provided by Coastal. While more and more and more of these companies are being sold to Private Equity groups, Coastal prides itself in still being a mom and pop shop - and they are in the best possible way. Everyone from management to the techs to sales to the office are pleasant, professional and knowledgeable in their respective jobs. Coastal Air Conditioning... really? Refuses to disclose prices of parts needed for repair when supplying a quote - then charges $95 for a "diagnostic. $1,134 plus tax to replace a blower fan motor??? When I called the office I was told "they quote repairs based on levels" - this would be a "level 3 repair" without a service contract. What a rip off! Never, ever again. Luckily I'm not an idiot and can get the $150 Goodman factory fan motor and swap it myself in less than 20 minutes. Highway robbery. Not today! read more

Realized our AC just stopped working, compressor just wouldn't turn on, house got HOT. Called Coastal first thing in the morning, pretty early too and they answered and got me on the schedule ASAP. GREAT News Bad news is I basically already knew it was a capacitor issue. I was quoted at $89 for a house call, and $428 for a new capacitor which included install. For those of you who don't know, capacitors are usually the main issue your system goes down, so bought a new one for $10.74 in Matawan, watched a four minute youtube video and I fixed it myself. How How HOW are you charging people $428 + $89 for less than 10 minutes of labor and a $10.74 part ? I cant speak to Coastals work, but damn... its literally an $11 part you just swap out and you were gonna hit me for $550 ? read more

My husband and I just bought our first home together earlier this year. When we bought the home we knew the air conditioning and the heating system were a bit dated. Our first summer in the house, we had some serious flooding in our basement due to the prior owner not maintaining the air conditioning system properly. I called Coastal and explained what was going on and they had service technicians out to my home the very next day. The technicians were very friendly and professional. They put down runners to protect my floors while they dealt with the issues and got the problem fixed in no time. The house was cool, my basement was dry and the price was very reasonable. Then the season's changed and it started to get cold, it was time to turn on the heat. We turned the system on and the house got warm, but there was a strange metallic odor. We called Coastal, they came right out and immediately new something was wrong. The technicians advised part of the furnace had broken and it was not fixable and it would need to be replaced. This put my Husband and I in a place where we had to make a big decision, replace the oil furnace or convert to gas. Coastal provided a detailed plan that layed out both options, pricing and comparisons. We made the decision to convert to gas. Coastal had the appointment set up within a few days and the necessary supplies ordered. The techs came out to our house worked all day, kept my house clean while working and came back the following day to complete the job. Coastal has been there for my Husband and I in a major way, as we are first time home owners and just learning all the little odds and ends of our home. The staff in the office is super friendly. The technicians are polite and extremely knowledgable. We were able to be set up on an awesome payment plan for cost of the conversion to gas, which was a big help to us financially. I was referred to this company via a friend for some service on my outside walk-in cooler. My cooler was serviced, and I was also promised, by the owner, that they would fabricate a cover for the compressor which was exposed to the open environment. One week later no one showed up to cover the compressor (after it rained two days in a row, allowing the rain to damage the electrical components) but the son did show up to collect payment for the repairs. Upon paying the son in full, I inquired about when the compressor would be covered and he said he had no knowledge of such agreement. He spoke with his father and technician and they admitted to forgetting about it, but said they would fulfill the job without charge. At that time, I told the son I would take care of the issue myself, because I was worried that if the cooler wasn't covered soon, damage would occur, but he insisted they would do the service. Over one week passed, and I was still not contacted, nor had anyone come to repair what was promised to me more than two weeks before. I called the owner George to check when they would come and he told me he would have someone repair it that day. However, twenty minutes later he called me back to tell me they were not interested in completing the job they had promised to me. At this point I was infuriated that this company wasted my time, and allowed my cooler to be uncovered, outside, in the rain, for over two weeks. Mid-conversation, the owner George threatened me and my business, and told me I was "the new guy in town and I needed to watch out," and then proceeded to hang up on me. I am very unsettled by how unprofessional this company was, and how I disrespectfully I was treated as a new customer and business owner in town. read more

I had an emergency plumbing & HVAC issue that happened at 10 pm on a Tuesday night. I called Coastal at 9 AM, spoke to the owner George. He was very knowledgeable and straight forward when answering my questions. He was able to quote me a very fair price and have his crew to my house by 2:15 PM that same day. His office called me about one hour before the crew was to arrive so I could leave work in time to meet them. I had a very good experience with Coastal. I called at 8 am and by 10:30 am Scott one of the employees came by my home. The system had ice in it so he instructed me to leave the fan on to thaw the ice. He returned later, added Freon and my system is much cooler now.
