It turns out that a plastic piece in the assembly broke, which was a relatively easy fix (for them - not us!) We were very happy with the speedy, professional service, and the very kind and genuine attitude Dave and his apprentice brought with them. They were even sweet and accommodating with our 80 pound pitbull, who is an angel, albeit nosey...she wanted to watch them work...and of course, be pet and shown love. Called W. Archer & Sons in the early afternoon with a clogged main pipe. Mike and another young man (can't remember his name) came a couple hours later and worked very hard to unclog the pipe. They were very knowledgeable, efficient, polite and did their best to not leave a mess. I would highly recommend them based on their work ethic and efficiency. The job cost $1500 to snake then power blast the clog. Cost was a bit higher than a few places I asked for quotes but in the end I was happy with the service and the end result. read more

Back 2 years , I called Archer and sons to replace outside faucet. The faucet I had was to high and got in the way of siding. A plumber from company came, was there at most 15 minutes. He gave my husband the bill 853.00. We couldn't believe how much they ripped us off for. It was a simple job compared to other plumbing jobs I had done at my home. My husband called and spoke to the owner. The owner said he pays his employees well. That is great but at the expense of hard working people. This price was way way over the top. After my husband spoke how this is grossly overpriced the owner said he will send us a check taking 150.00 off. Still to high but I said ok. We never received that check for 150.00. I've been waiting since 5/11/22. Its now 2024. read more

Both of my water heaters started leaking within 2 weeks of each other and needed to be replaced. (They were 15+ years old). Someone from William Archer & Son came over to give me an estimate (after the first heater started leaking, but before the second). I received a quote for replacing both water heaters and also a quote to add a valve to separate them. I decided to go with the valve. Instead, the plumber capped the leaky heater which was not discussed as an option. I didn't notice it was a cap and not a valve until after the plumber left. This is the reason for a one star reduction. Everything else about the company was wonderful. I decided to replace both water heaters and called other companies for quotes. William Archer & Sons was by far the best deal - 20% less than the nearest competitor. They also deducted the amount charged for the capping from the total cost. (As a side note, my second water heater started to leak after making the appointment to replace both water heaters). They also did a great job. There was no way to isolate my previous water heaters in case one leaked, and did not have catch pans. These were put in without asking. read more

I just moved to the area in Old Bridge and first time I called for service. Plumber was at my location less than 10 minutes and charged me over $500. I am US Marine Corps Veteran I think it's a truly disgrace that companies like this are still in business, eventually this all catches up to Sharks like these that take advantage of people. This type of charges are unacceptable. If they have the nerve to do that to me I imagine how many elderly and other people they take advantage of. Will definitely report to BBB. read more

I had a gas line run underground about 50 feet to accommodate a newly added pool heater. I called archer plumbing and Dave showed up promptly and I hired Dave for the job. Dave was extremely professional, courteous, would always check in with me and give updates regarding the project and how things were progressing in regards to obtaining the permit to begin work. Once the permit was approved Dave wasted no time and completed the work in one day and got the town to come approve the project the following day. The day he came out to work was 100 degree weather and Dave worked through it for 12 hours straight. The amount of professionalism and dedication displayed by Dave was phenomenal. I highly recommend this company, especially Dave, and going forward I will call archer plumbing first for any and all plumbing jobs I have in the future. read more

On the plus side, the work performed was fast and professional. The techs themselves were very pleasant and made sure their work environment was spotless after they left. What irked me (and I know the techs have no control over this) was learning that the owner has set fixed MINIMUM prices for certain activities, regardless of how long they took to execute. So it was a minimum cost of $400 for a clogged sink and $600 (which the tech reduced by $150 as "favor") for a clogged main. In each case, the actual work time was less than 30 minutes. So, at least in the case of Archer, gone are the days of hourly labor prices. I later learned that the same services were performed for dramatically lower costs by other plumbers. So a very expensive lesson learned on my part. read more

Over $1200 for a less then $400 part and 1 hour max, 30 minutes to review and provide estimate and 30 minutes to install it next day. Our original quote was $1890 to replace a waste pipe. Our original request was very specific: We are under contract on the home and need to only to repair or replace a cast iron waste connector pipe located in our basement. All parts of the system were clearly visible during the time of the quote, so there were no hidden pipes. In May of 2017 I had Dave Archer come to our house for an unknown leak. At that time he inspected all the first-floor bathroom pipes and was able to determine all the plumbing in that room was operational. The leak was from a faulty toilet connection in an upstairs bathroom. I was very happy with the replacement and customer service Dave provided represented by my original 5 stars. However, the two service representatives who in July began to work on the project did not provide excellent service. They left us in the dark about the project and the growing costs after my repeated requests for an update at several points throughout the day. I was told several times "let me finish this up and then we can discuss costs". This is unacceptable behavior! My wife was home and made herself available the entire day to answer any questions. At only one time did their service representatives ask her for permission to move out of the original scope of the project. A kitchen line had come unglued at a connection point and needed to be repaired. She was told, "Don't worry about it, I'll fix it and take care of you on the price". After this point is when the project went way beyond our approved scope. The servicemen took it upon themselves to start pulling out the cast iron pipes connected to first-floor toilet and replace the flange and all other parts without informing my wife. When I arrived home I introduced myself and asked for an update and any change in cost. I was not looped in that the price was going out of the original estimate. As mentioned before I was told "let me wrap this up, then we can discuss", but it was never discussed until after the unrequested/wanted work was completed. When I began asking questions, the answers to me were suspect, as Dave from Archer had previously looked at the same exact plumbing lines and the same toilet in the first-floor bathroom and determined they were not leaking. The project was already far beyond the original scope and all the original lines had been cut or pulled, and yet we had not been informed of a price change or consulted in how we wanted the technician to proceed. If at any point we had been informed of the astronomically growing price, or asked about replacing the toilet flange, sink, toilet in line, or any of the other items that were done without our approval, we would have told them to not continue to go beyond the scope! Only after the project was completed was I told about a "leaking sink line", which never had an issue with and had passed several inspections, a leaking toilet line, a leaking toilet connection. None of these had ever been an issue before, nor did they show signs of moisture prior to the work being done on 7/17. They have been checked by not only an Archer plumber but also a home inspector, and no issues were previously noted. I informed the technician that he was more than double the original estimate and his only answer was "It got complicated in there". Several times I heard him reprimand his apprentice for "wasting time", "moving but not doing anything", and "not speeding up the job". I believe that this apprentice may have caused damage during the job and I am being charged for his errors. After trying to figure out how I was being charged I was blown away that I was being charged more than $420 per hour for labor? There was no itemization of the cost of the parts used, nor was I told exactly how the $3890 was arrived at, after the $1890 estimate. Additionally, the job was not done correctly. Where there was no leak before Archer's service, there is now a leak. This required me to hire another plumber to repair this leak. Thankfully my neighbor was excellent at plumbing repairs and fixed the issue and didn't charge me! After work was completed I was bullied with many phone calls because I only paid the original quoted amount and told them I would get back to them about any amount above the original quote. The phone calls and messages became increasingly threatening around "collections" and attempting to derail the sale of my home that was in progress. This was less than 2 weeks after the job was completed!!! I have since moved out of the house and had a few months to reflect on how much more stressful Archer Plumbing made the sale of my home. If you are looking for a plumber in East Brunswick, I would avoid them at all costs! read more

We bought a garbage disposal that we thought would be an easy install but after several failed attempts and getting ghosted by plumbers, we almost gave up. Had a drain backup and flood our laundry room on Memorial Day. I called at 10pm to leave a message and actually spoke with a person. I told them it was not an emergency and if possible I would like the work done the next day. At 8:15am their 2 employees showed up with masks on and I walked them through the issue. Called Archer Pluming because our boiler shut off, on a Sunday late afternoon. We had no heat and the outside temperatures were in the teens...the house was cold. Chris from Archer came out and tried to get the boiler up and running but it needed a replacement part that only a plumbing supply store might have b/c the boiler is 36 years old. I never prayed so hard in my life hoping they would be able to locate that part. Dave called early the next morning & explained he was on his way to fix our boiler. Dave had the boiler up and running in a couple of hours and we could not be happier! Archer Plumbing did a fantastic job....they are courteous, professional, and know what they are doing! They got here as promised early the next morning and through a thorough search of what the issue was they realized that during the renovations of our home someone shot a nail through the pipe, they fixed the issue and were very professional. To me, this is a ridiculous price to clear a drain that took less than 10 minutes. Yes, my bad as I should have said forget it or called another company to compare, but it was so backed up I just wanted it done. To be clear, this review is bad because of the price they charged. A good plumber is hard to find but I just found one . I called archer and sons yesterday to deal with a issue at my 95 yr father in laws house. Today Andy came by to fix the drain problem. Archer plumbing came out to replace a cracked drain pipe under my kitchen. Dave came out initially and diagnosed the issue I was having w drain flies and water not draining quickly even after we had the pipe snaked out previously. Dave explained the situation very clearly and was really easy to work with. He gave me a reasonable estimate as well. We are on a slab so this required extensive work moving all cabinets and jack-hammering through the concrete floor under the kitchen to get to the pipe. They sent Mike and Shea to come do the work. It was a tough job but they both made the job seem easier than it looked/was. I'm very glad I decided to go w Archer on this job. I also recommended them to a coworker of mine and he also had a great experience. I highly recommend Archer to anyone looking for a plumber. read more
