Charged $2250 for a handrail job.
Original quote was $500 for material, $800 for labor. It then jumped up to $2250 the next day before the work ever started.
The owner Loren, sent one of his contractors out. He arrived with a bag full of Home Depot parts and intended to use a 2" square fencing post for a handrail. It looked ridiculous. The main handrail on the upstairs is 1.25" and obviously we wanted it to match for that price. So I called and spoke with Loren, he lied and said "it's not from Home Depot it's from our shop" despite the fact that I found the exact piece at Home Depot for $31 in the fencing aisle. He must assume everyone who hires him is too stupid to know better. We waited around all day and it was not until around 4pm he messaged us what was going on, so a whole day was wasted waiting for them to return. Honesty may not be his strong suit because he also claims it was $1200 to have 3 brackets welded to a 4ft bar, that sounds incredibly unlikely. I asked to see an invoice proving this and all he did was send a picture of the handrail instead. The welding was unnecessary, simple screw fasteners would have been sufficient. Seems like he wasted the time to justify the high price. He also claims it cost him "$800 because his guy had to drive around all day to find a shop" so he clearly was unprepared for the job, and attempted to blame us for not accepting the original ridiculous looking fence post as a handrail. Ironically he even said on the phone "nothing they had at Home Depot or Lowe's will work", clearly contradicting his earlier claim that the original bar was not from Home Depot as I had said. You can't quote someone over $2000 and be surprised when they are upset you intend to spend $50 on Home Depot parts and finish the job in a single day. Apparently he claims he didn't know we wanted "something custom" but the original quote was over $2000 and clearly considering what he said they intended to spend $50 at Home Depot and up charge us a ludicrous amount for a total hack job. On the second day, the worker installed the rail, and was supposed to paint the original railing black to match. He missed a bunch of spots, it looked terrible when he tried to leave and we had to point out all the flaws in an attempt to have him fix it. It still looks terrible and I will have to redo the whole thing myself. I would never recommend this guy or his workers for any project whatsoever. Terrible experience and incredibly overpriced. On the phone he claimed "it's gonna cost me $800 because my guy has been driving around for 8hours to get a shop to weld this" so he's either obviously lying about how much he pays his guy or he thinks a guy driving around due to a mistake of his own making is worth more per hour than a highly trained ER nurse. Incredibly unprofessional behavior and communication. Terrible accountability for the workmanship level provided.
You'll notice that any negative review of his business or workmanship is met by his condescending replies about how the person writing is wrong and how great his work is even when the pictures of the work done clearly show a sloppy, rushed, hack job. Avoid this guy like the plague. The pictures I am attaching speak for themselves on the level of quality to expect from his company. $2250 for something that looks like your 2 year old child did as a Mother's Day gift. It's a joke.
When I sent him the pictures he replied "he told me you were going to paint around it"
Customer service is atrocious. The appropriate answer would have been "I will have my worker come and make it right"
$2250 for 12 hours of work. With the majority of the time used up being their own fault for not being prepared with acceptable materials for the job. It's laughable. A general contractor who has to "pay $1200" to have a basic bar cut and 3 brackets welded to it? How do you not own a chop saw and basic MIG welder as a professional company?? Total ripoff. read more
