I had been looking for a specific car, online every evening, for several weeks. I found the car that met all my requirements, and exceeded my expectations at Coast Auto Sales in Buellton. After a thorough prescreen on the phone with owner Ed and Sales Associate Rico, I made the four hour Amtrak trip from Orange County to Goleta, where Ed picked me up in the car, and we drove on to Buellton. At the lot, Ed left me alone with the car while he tended to other things, allowing me a relaxed, no pressure, continued evaluation. The car was not over hyped prior to my trip to see it in person. If anything, it was slightly undersold - The steering wheel leather still felt new!! Another thing I appreciated was the registration was promptly processed. I have dealt with independent dealers who utilize almost all of the time period they have to process and that can cause anxiety. There was no price negotiation. The car was fairly priced. My next purchase I will likely let Ed do the search for me and save the time i spent. The dealership itself is modest and unassuming, no big expanses of polished glass, metal and wood, no complimentary cappuccino machines. I gladly trade those things for the honesty and integrity displayed by Ed and Rico. read more

Had an excellent car buying experience at Coast! After unexpectedly losing my vehicle in a hit-and-run, I was looking for a replacement, used compact car. From the moment I called the dealership to inquire about a car I saw on their website to the moment I drove off the lot, working with Ed and Rico was better than any other sales interaction I've ever had when car shopping. They were patient and kind and I never felt pressured. Car shopping as a woman can be especially challenging, but at Coast I never felt taken advantage of or disrespected (which unfortunately is very common in the car industry). I had a lovely experience buying my black 2010 Lexus RX350 from Ed. I don't know who owned the place before, but don't listen to the old reviews because they do not reflect how Ed runs his business now as the new owner. My experience here was nothing like my experiences at car dealerships where they're pushy and clearly trying to rip you off. Before going, I called Ed for the Carfax and inspection report and he was very responsive and quick to reply. As soon as I arrived I got to test drive the car and see how I liked it. Ed didn't hover or badger me as I checked out the car like they do at dealerships, and was very helpful as I called and tried to set up insurance so I could drive it off the lot. When that didn't work, Rico was super helpful and contacted his broker for me and got my insurance set up very quickly. Initially, I thought the price was high, but he had the tires replaced and showed me everything he had fixed to prove it was not overpriced. He offered a warranty and gave me a price break so I took it because I want this car to last me as long as possible. Ed made me a cup of espresso while we went through the process of buying the car, and polished up the headlights before I drove off. The car is gorgeous and runs smoothly. read more

I will never buy another car from COAST AUTO SALES again! BUYER BEWARE! Buy through a reputable AUTO DEALER, not a corner car lot! Buy a certified vehicle!! I have bought numerous vehicles! This is by far, the worst experience I have ever had buying a car. The next needed repair: is a diagnosed $1900 repair! A Blend door actuator is needed to make the heater work, it blows cold air. Since buying the vehicle on 9/16, (a Toyota Prius), dealing with Ed Harrington, has been a nightmare, anything but pleasant! He, in his words, apologized... for, as he said "being a DICK"! Only because he is worried about his reputation! He should be worried!!!! Problems with the vehicle... 1) tire sensors, and nail in a tire 2) a crack in windshield 3) heater blowing cold air and window fogging up, Rico said, "just hit the defrost button". 4) Temp light went on, up 2 hills (not) at high altitude. On the $1900 repair he offered to pay $500. Had the car 2 days when I turned on the heat! It blew cold air, I told Rico, Ed's partner, about the heater, not wanting to deal with Ed, because of what I dealt with just trying to get him to fix the cracked windshield! Which he blamed me for, (at angles it looks like a smudge, at other angles it's not visible, still other angles, it looks like a crack! A tint company pointed out the crack! He tried to blame me for it!!! Also he tried to say the heater was working fine when he sold me the car. He never checked the heater! Ed said he didn't check the heater because it was hot. After saying he checked the car out! He cited "The CARFAX", 33 service records, stating it numerous times! With no other proof that he checked out the car! A carfax means nothing! He buys cars at auction based on the carfax and sells that! I trusted him! I asked him to drive the car, really drive it, to test it! Because I trusted him! He didn't! Tried to blame me for the heater situation... happening after I bought it! "My girlfriend said the heater worked fine!" Well it doesn't! The temp light goes on, he says that is normal! No it's not normal! It's a sign that there is a problem! He neglected to get the temp light checked out after I asked that it be done! I've owned a Prius B4! They handle high altitudes fine! Ed is insulting and rude. When I wanted a price on the repair for the heater, which I was waiting on, he ordered me to get the hell out of Rico's tiny office and ordered Rico to call the police when I said, I am not leaving until I find out how much a (3rd quote) on the repair would be for the heater! Ed then Ed then yelled again, call the police! I waited in my car til 3 pm yesterday, his 3rd quote never called! He just called me tonight while I was writing this! I answered, and he said "That wasn't very diplomatic of you", and I said nothing, he said again, that wasn't very diplomatic of you, especially after I was willing to help you pay for "it"! I said, I am not paying for anything!!! I said, I don't give a F***! He said take me to court! Take me to court! He just sent me a text saying I bashed his girlfriend! What, by mentioning, she said the heater worked fine! On the contrary, if anything, I feel sorry for her! After we hung up... Ed just texted me... saying "then I guess we are done" next sentence says "the offer still stands if you change your mind"! His offer is BS! At one point Ed said that I paid a good price for the Prius ($6920). I said, Yeah, if it had a working heater!!! I want nothing more from this jerk! BUY at your own risk! He cannot be trusted!!!! Go to a reputable DEALER, it will be well worth the price, for your peace of mind!!!! Rico seems like a good guy, the jury is still out on that one! Who he works for and with, ED HARRINGTON cannot be trusted! So you have to wonder!!? Ed is a new owner, the only thing possibly good about Coast Auto Sales is Rico! He is very diplomatic! I am not! I wish Rico the best! Hope he finds someone better to work for!!!! read more

Doesn't even deserve one star. I bought a car as a commuter here and a week later it no longer works. The owner Tom will not fix it says it isn't his problem. The only person that has a conscience is Ian. DO NOT BUY A CAR from this place. You will loose your money and be stuck with a piece of Sh*t car. I will be contacting BBB also.
