Every time I visit, the staff has been very helpful. When I am wandering around, someone always approaches me to see if I need any help. There is so much merchandise, it's great to have staff to assist the customers in finding the items on their list. I have bought materials for watercolor, drawing, and journaling classes. They even sell skeins of yarn that I've bought for my crochet class! Blick offers a student discount. This past weekend, I took advantage of their Fall sale and online coupon. I quickly became puzzled over the frame color, size, and whether to use a mat or not. Thankfully, Kim came to the rescue. It's the same as any other arts and crafts store, you gotta be at LEAST 2 months early to get the best pick of the batch. Though on the other hand, you can get the super clearance items later on in the holiday season. I liked that there's lots of cute prints for their fabrics and different textures, seeing that most Walmarts don't have this anymore and Joann's is completely decimated. I think my main issues are all of the AI SLOP art that's being sold to those who cannot tell the difference and the fact that there was shoplifting randomly during our visit. Sucks, but yeah, it's mostly the AI slop that sickens me. I couldn't find anything that I needed during my visit, but my friend got some cupcake liners since the ones she ordered online were mini even though the website said nothing about the sizing, so she assumed they were regular sized. They, of course, had no Valentine's Day ones leftover, so she found cute bow ones. For on sale and clearance items, it works!

I gently told her the restrooms were both closed and she replied with, "yea, ok, but I told you where they were." Yea, you did. I won't fault you there, missy. Then, I said, "I asked where it was because I need to use it", with a reply of "oh, sorry ‍". Always a good story about the decency and helpfulness of your employees, Michaels. Thanks!! Without me saying a word, Bob glanced at the layout and immediately said, "You're missing the $5 Jefferson." That kind of instant recognition only comes from decades of experience with U.S. material. Bob is truly old‑school -- no website, still uses AOL, and his shop has boxes, albums, and stockbooks everywhere. But don't let the layout fool you. Don't try to find a stamp yourself; just ask him. He knows exactly which stock album to pull from, and he'll go right to the page without hesitation. It's the kind of deep, lived‑in knowledge you don't see much anymore. I also picked up a new magnifier, tongs, and a perforation gauge. He never tried to upsell me on anything. The only time he recommended a slightly more expensive option was the gauge, and he explained clearly why the older, cheaper style doesn't measure modern decimal perforations accurately. It wasn't a sales pitch -- it was solid advice from someone who wants collectors to have the right tools. What stands out most is how straightforward and respectful he is. He answers questions without pressure, explains condition and varieties clearly, and treats every collector -- whether you're filling one space or building out a whole album -- with the same level of attention. It will be a sad day if and when he decides to close, because this is one of the last true stamp shops in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Places like this don't get replaced. If you're in the South Bay and want a dependable, knowledgeable U.S. dealer who still believes in old‑school customer service, Coast Philatelics is absolutely worth a visit.
