Sat there for an hour. Waitress only got us half our order. My husband and I left without ever getting our food (kid got his appetizers). Kitchen didn't make our food (2 small pizzas) and we gave up. Restaurant only 1/3 full due to rain. Never again. read more

New management is absolutely awful. I've complained to the new manager several times about waiting over 20 minutes to get a drink during happy hour from the new bartender (Lindsay). It's ridiculous. You're a BAR. It's HAPPY HOUR. Drinks should be served quickly & often. My food orders have been consistently wrong.  Nothing happens when complaining. The manager doesn't care. She gossips about other employees, which if so horrible. The bar is a complete mess & super dirty. Lindsay tries to make up for her slowness with free alchohol (that's why the 2 stars), but it's still extremely irritating. Makes no sense that it could be this bad. It used to be so amazing to go there. definitely won't be back. Would not recommend it to anyone. read more

What a Bummer! Prime example of what a "struggling" business is doing during Covid. Ordered 2 12" pizzas and 3 cannolis for 3 people. The food is gone and we're all still hungry. Why? Because what Coal Fire Pizza in Gambrills calls Pizza is really a 12" sliver of dough covered with the smallest amount of portion. Just enough to cover the dough. The Buffalo Chicken Pizza ordered was covered in Buffalo Style Sauce, but hardly a piece of actual chicken to be found. Ditto for the Ricotta style pizza which is supposed to have thick dollops of Ricotta cheese on it. It's basically a regular pizza without sauce that they charge you extra for. 3 cannoli, not enough filling to stuff one shell. Check out the photos. $4.45 for a .25 cent cannoli shell and another .25 worth of filling. Sick AND tired of being ripped off by these terrible restaurants. Everyone is feeling bad for this industry during Covid? It's examples like this that makes me think it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if places like Coal Fire Pizza went out of business, allowing the strong to survive. The strong being the restaurants that refuse to trim the amount of food they use for an order all the while increasing prices to make money. You charge more "because of Covid" and then use less ingredients to make The product. The pizza......The Cannoli??? Tasty pizza with a hefty price tag. Ordered a large Ring of Fire pizza (sausage, banana peppers, spicy sauce, mozzarella) and added pepperoni. With tax our total was $23, not including tip. No drinks, no sides, just pizza. While the quality and taste were fine, it was not worth the outrageous price tag. I'll probably stick to Pub Dog in Columbia or Federal Hill, where my husband and I can both get our own pizza and 4 beers for around $30. read more

Once again I had to cash in on a Groupon before it expired and I"m pretty satisfied with my purchase. Coal Fire Pizza is located on the main strip of the new Waugh Chapel Shopping Center. Sort of next to the Panera on the corner. Upon entry, I noticed that this is a rather small restaurant. The seating is up close and personal with your surrounding neighbors (STRANGER DANGER). If it weren't for the music playing in the background, I'm pretty sure I could hear more conversations than the few I did hear. The tables are pretty small, especially if you plan on ordering a large pizza. I was impressed that we didn't have to wait, even on a Saturday night. We ordered wings as a side to go along with our pizza. The wings were baked with salt, pepper and rosemary on a bed of tons and tons of onions and flat-bread. They were rather bland and not cooked long enough in my opinion. We ordered the signature sauce on our pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and sausage. The crust was nice and flaky and the pizza itself was very flavorful. Our server on the other hand, left something to be desired. She wasn't the most pleasant servers I've ever encountered. Glad to know that I can get a decent pie here. Smart location for this type of restaurant because their isn't a pizza restaurant anywhere near me. Coal Fire Pizza is under new management and the manager is doing a great job. All the wait staff are always very friendly and treat us well. We have the 14 inch pepperoni with extra cheese spicy sauce. And their delicious iced tea. The secret to great tips is keep those glasses full. Which they do a good job. This is still our favorite pizza place! We were moving to this area ten years ago and decided to try this pizza joint. We came by after work nearly every day to check on the status of our home which was being built nearby. During that time, we ate at Coal Fire 2-3 times a week. We stopped by again today. 1. Still love the thin crust. 2. Still LOVE the classic sauce! 3. Still LOVE the Coal Fire salad! (Although I seem to recall there used to be grapes in the salad - or am I dreaming?) 4. Love the pizzas because of the crust - it's thin crust, not too thin, but not thick. I like the pizza sauces, my favorite is the signature, which is a blend of the classic and the spicy. They have very good dine-in specials and happy hour 1/2 price 12" pizza. The draft is $2 at happy hour and select wines are $3. I didn't care much for the wings. It's okay, but they can't top my favorite 'Glory Wings' at Glory Days. Great place for happy hour, pizza, salad and a glass of wine or beer! Good music too and very nice staff & bartender. read more

Me and my family came to this location after watching a movie. It was around 7pm and empty which was surprising. My only issue with this establishment was cleanliness. The tables were disgusting, the floor, seats and they sat us like they did not see the mess everywhere. The irony was it had to be at least 10 employees on phones and not doing anything majority teens. Please, look into better management and put a HUGE emphasis on cleanliness. We are a fan of the Coal Fire Pizza over in Ellicott City so were very happy to learn a new Coal Fire Pizza was opening nearby in Gambrills. We have visited this new Gambrills store about 5 times now. The new place is nice, open and you can see the fire hearth. Both my daughter and I love the pizza and all three special sauces. This was the first time I have eaten at a Coal Fire restaurant. I have to say I'm happy I stopped the other night. I had the Italian Cold Cut sub. It was delicious. The sub was stuffed with meat. My son had a pepperoni pizza. I have not had a sub that stuffed in a long time and the pizza was cooked perfectly and had a great taste. The waitress was awesome. She made sure we were happy, had what we needed. If your in the Gabriel's area I recommend you stop in. read more

It's been a while since I have patronized Coal Fire Pizza! After the movie, my daughter chose this place for lunch! First of all, it was oddly empty when we ventured in for lunch, however, that changed quickly! We were greeted by our server James and he was very friendly! My daughter was having issues connecting her Nintendo Switch to their free WiFi so he even checked by connecting his phone and checking in with the manager! It was something glitchy with her device! But I appreciated that he took the time to look into it! Gold star for James! Either way, we ordered a 12" inch pizza with chicken and pepperoni, kids choice of course and a side Cesar salad! Everything was delicious! The one thing I remembered was that Coal Fire's pizza is soo good! The sauce, we usually chose traditional, the crust, the pizza itself is just done right! And not overpoweringly seasoned but you can taste all ingredients. I told my BFF I wanted pizza she can get Qdoba if she wanted but I wanted something different. We ended up sitting in there tho it was supposed to be to go! LoL, our Waitress Shayna was soo nice and too funny!! But she made you feel like Friiiieennnd instead of a customer! Real chill interactive in conversation, also gave us what was good since it was our 1st dining experience. I ordered the Lunch Special pizza which is Mon-fri til 3pm you get a 9" pizza & side for like 12 or so bucks well worth it!!! and a ribeye cheesesteak to go with an up charge of onion rings!. My friend got the same thing but a larger pizza size that's it. The pizza won't make you feel guilt at all it's a thin crust but not that hard crunchy crust it was just right and all the toppings were heavenly but the sauce "signature" is a Sin!! I got some on the side definitely dipping the cheesesteak bread in it!!! . They don't skimp on toppings or flavor here!! The ambiance is very nice and you can watch them make your pizza if you're sitting inside!!!. Before I forget the Wings!!!!!!! They are the perfect portion not all looking like they have steroids big smfh they aren't over sauced at all the perfect amount to taste the chicken it's flavor and the sauce that's brushed on!! Pizza wasn't half as good to make up for the horrible service. You could go to chucky cheese and order the same exact thing and it be comparable. Our server sucked to say the least ( Courtney). Gave us water and never returned until we had to get another server to bring our food and another to hunt her down for the check. Food is pretty good. But beware of take-out at Gambrills (Waugh Chapel Location). Inspect your food before you depart the restaurant. One time my pizza was folded over like a stromboli. Once sent home with the wrong "Colby" sandwich and had to bring it back. Sometimes, they blow the order completely, and have to "put it in" you've arrived to pick it up. Other times they tell you on the phone that the order will be ready in "25 minutes" but you end up waiting there longer, more like 35. When you express your disappointment to the poor employees at the pick-up counter, the manager usually vanishes and you don't get an apology or any price-relief from the screwed up order. Another thing, while waiting for my food tonight (10/10/2020) the bartender on the lounge side of the restaurant had a foul mouth; seems like the "f word" was a big favorite in her vocabulary. Families with little kids in there could hear her loud and clear. But like I said, the food is pretty good there. read more

I dropped in here looking for some quick food while I was in the area. My overall experience was solid, although the pizza itself was very average and I have definitely had better. I got a classic 12', half pepperoni and sausage and the other half chicken and tomatoes. The pizza was thin and slimy. All of the toppings fell off when I tried to lift it from the platter. My friend even dropped an entire slice on the floor because it was so floppy. On the other hand, the wings were delicious--smothered in onions and a sweet and spicy bbq sauce. They were some of the most crispy baked wings I have ever had. I also ordered french fries, which were a little thinner than I expected, but were very good. Also, on Sundays they have 1/2 priced drinks in the bar area , which was a nice touch. Great spot for happy hour with good deals. Happy hour is Mon - Fri 3-6 pm and Friday - Saturday 9 - 11 pm. 12 inch pizzas are half off as well. Tuesday - 1/2 off wine bottles. The pizza is thin and crisp (but not too crisp) and they have a variety of toppings as you'd expect. The fries are tasty and enough to share with the table. Service is always great whether in the bar area or the regular restaurant. Definitely worth a visit. read more

My family and I grabbed dinner here before seeing a movie tonight and the restaurant was pretty full so we expected our food would take awhile. I know at this time, it's hard to find help and the kitchen looked to be a little backed up, but the manager was awesome. Our waiter was not the quickest, but the manager jumped in to help the servers and run food as soon as the kitchen pumped it out. It's a stressful time to be a restaurant manager, and he really was working hard to make sure the service was on par. We learned of @coalfire_pizza through the kids stuff coupon app. We figured we'd give them a try. We went in on a Sunday night after most of the 1 clock football games were over. This in a lot of places mean slow, poor service with not always the best food. That wasn't the case at Coal Fire our waiter Steve was attentive, knowable and very polite. We ordered a 12" Fire Ring, the Sweet and spicy wing (with onions) and the Seafood pasta. Healthy portions on all. Great flavor in each. My wife had a skinny lemonade crush, she said it was a little tart but good, I had a @yuengling_beer it was crisp and cold. The wings were fantastic. The pizza that was cooked at 900 degrees was like butter! The seafood pasta had nice size shrimp and crab meat was tasty and filling. And as the place began filling up Steve was just as attentive as the beginning of the meal. We are playing to return. read more

I went here on a lazy Sunday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by the great customer service and delicious food options. I ordered the calamari. It comes with sweet and hot peppers in a zesty sauce. It was pretty good and reminded me of the calamari I used to order in Rhode Island. The wings I ordered came with an 8 wings atop fresh dough and smothered onions. I was a bit curious as to who came up with this combination but I think it works. The wings had a Mediterranean flavor and were not greasy as they tasted kind of roasted/rotisserie. For drink options, they do half price on drinks at the bar and don't skimp on the booze as my drinks were robust and made just right. The young lady working the bar (Jennifer) was personable and made sure everyone had what they needed and was spot on with her drink and food recommendations. Prices here are decent and with their specials you'll make out A-ok. Check their website for the various events and happy hour specials. I call this restaurant the Matchbox of Maryland (Crofton) . I love Matchbox restaurant located in DC & Bethesda which is known for their brick oven pizzas. The pizza at Coal Fire was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Margherita Pizza w/ Pepperoni, Smoked Onions and Mushrooms. Also a must try is the Coal Fire salad (Yum!) They have great Happy Hour specials starting at 3pm for 1/2 off all Pizzas and $3 on selected Wines & Beers. You gotta love that! read more

Had a great job interview and decided to celebrate by having Pizza and Beer for lunch. Decided on the "Ring of Fire" pizza and ordered a side salad ($3.95) with the house dressing on the side. Asked if I could have cheese added to the salad, and for $1 extra they would grate some fresh parmesan. Pretty standard beers on tap, with one seasonal IPA today ($6) which I didn't recognize, and my waiter was happy to bring me a sample to try. It was perfect to pair with pizza.... or so I thought. My salad came out quick, and just as ordered, grated cheese on top with the dressing on the side in a plastic take-out container. I noted two things when I started eating the salad, 1st - the dressing was bland (no seasonings or spices, just oil & vinegar) and 2nd - there was a fair amount of chopped celery, not that I dislike it, but celery can be a strong flavor and there was a lot. Then my pizza came out, a 9inch personal pizza ($8.95) and the first thing I noticed was that the toppings were very scant (see photo). As I ate my pizza, I noted that the sauce was very sweet to start with, but had a very hot after burn, which actually reminded me of the movie "Back Draft"...lol!!! As I ate the pizza, I noted that the heat continued to build, to the point I had to stop eating (a personal pizza), and the beer only made the heat worse. I ended up drinking 2 large glasses of water. The crust of the pizza became soggy very fast, so they probably over sauced the pizza. Let's get back to the toppings, the sauce was so overpowering that I couldn't taste the so called spicy sausage, but that could have been because each sausage slice was cut microscopically thin (see photo). It came with so few banana peppers that they didn't add much flavor either. This pizza probably didn't have much more than 1/2 ounce (15gm) of meat and maybe 6 or 7 thin banana peppers. If I ordered a sandwich for $10, I would have had the same amount of bread, but then I would have had a decent amount of meat as well. My waiter was pretty personable, and he told me that they actually make a test pizza to test how spicy the sauce is every day before they open... I think today they went overboard. I can't remember the last time I had to stop eating at a restaurant due to the degree of spiciness of the food, in this case the pizza I ate obliterated my taste buds. So I really didn't enjoy my lunch as I should have. A big positive is that they offer a 10% military discount. There is no internet offered here, but Coal Fire is next-door neighbors with Panera... get the drift. This is not the worst pizza I've had by far, but it was no where close to the 1st or 2nd best, nor even the 7th or 8th best pizzas I've had.... So it doesn't qualify for my list of best pizzas. If they were close by I might try a different pizza as today might have been a fluke, but not the Ring of Fire... Since they are 40 miles from home for me, I probably won't return. Coal Fire used to be a favorite dinner spot for us, but clearly there has been a decline, and it's most evident in the service. After years of coming home early from work so that we could fit into their limited hour window, we were very surprised to be told that happy hour was now only available to parties where everyone at the table was over 21. (Happy hour is limited to the bar area, and the new rule is that you must be 21 to even be in the bar area). I have never heard such a thing before. While I understand restricting those under 21 from sitting at the bar, I've never heard of restricting teenagers from the bar area, unless of course, it's to discourage patrons from taking advantage of advertised happy hour specials. I explained to the manager that we were some of the establishment's original and most loyal customers. I asked to have the owner call us, but the owner never did. We're a bit sad to give up Coal Fire, but the quality was waning, and it's now apparent that they must be under financial pressure. read more

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the great service and the pizza was good also. Before I pass the phone over to my partner who wishes to lay in to the absurdity of this establishment's scam on a dish Whole Foods sells in boxed form for 3.79$, let me just say that the flavor of the sauce was yummy. Now, onto what my yelp-less partner has to say: I ordered 2x gluten free/vegan pizzas, one just cheese ($13) and one with jalapeño ($14.50) and let's just say I feel like I got mugged. I do not say this lightly, I have been mugged several times in my life and know the feeling very well; it literally feels like I was held up and my money was taken from me. I was done an injustice. For paying between $35-40 after tax and tip I am just beyond disappointed. Also, disclaimer, we have been vegan for 6 years and gluten free for 3, so it's not like I didn't know what I was getting into - I know full well, gf pizza is typically on the smaller side. However, this was So Small and they put about 1/4 handful of cheese on each pizza. Now if y'all need some pointers on how to cook a vegan/gluten free pizza that is delicious, cost-efficient and will still provide you a size-able profit margin, hit me up, I'd be more than happy to assist. This pizza was very disappointing, it looked and tasted like a Lunchable pizza. I am only rating it 3 Stars so they don't take the vegan and gluten free options off their menu. But PLEASE Coal Fire, please review this recipe, and for love of all things tasty add some more cheese and maybe make the pizza an inch or two bigger. This place is incredibly popular and fills up pretty quickly so try to avoid the dinner rush hour. The pizza is pretty good but I should warn you that the sauce is sweet which I find a bit disconcerting. The trick for me after the first visit was to order the pizza with the spicy sauce which isn't that spicy but that way, the sweet sauce isn't off putting. What's behind the sweet sauce anyway? Yesterday I visited this restaurant as I've done many time before. Prior to placing an order I asked if they did curbside because I had a baby in the car. They happily told me yes they do. I placed my order a little later. Now there is very little parking in front of the restaurant. I called again and asked if I should park in the back of the restaurant; where there is generic curbside parking. The you woman on the phone said please try to park out front (I would have to double park illegally but that didn't bother me). I found a spot that isn't really a space and put my hazards on. I called the restaurant and was told my order was ready. I described that I was about 100 ft from the front door. The young woman on the phone sounded hesitant and said she would send someone out. Wellllll 15 minutes later and no one comes out. I called back and she knew I was waiting but didn't want to walk further than the front door. I told them if they bring me a cold pizza they can keep it. She asked me to move to the designated curbside spaces (which was further away). I told her I'm not moving I'm closer and about 3 minutes later they bring me a lukewarm pizza with VERY hard crust and minimal cheese. Coal fire does have good food and it was a disappointing pizza.
