BIG KUDOS! I would like to send a big shout-out to the staff at Emerald City…read moreAthletic Club to go beyond to help a fellow member. I have been going to this establishment for 16 years and I could not be happier. The club put a lot of money into recent renovations and upgrades. It is up to standards with state-of-the-art equipment. Whether a person chooses to use the machinery for cardiovascular purposes, muscle strength, or weight loss, this is the ideal place to achieve your fitness goals! It simply is not possible to walk out the door without feeling a profound sense of accomplishment and better overall health. The best part of all is the staff. I have had Cerebral Palsy all my life. I have had to make do with one wheelchair to use both inside my home and in my car. It was in bad shape. There is a wonderful maintenance lady by the name of Jen H. surprised me and gave me a cool wheelchair that she had at home. This chair was brand new and is a great chair for me to utilize at home. But the kindness and compassion did not stop there. My old wheelchair was in desperate need of an overhaul. She went ahead and ordered me a new seat for the chair and new armrests. Now, I can feel more at ease knowing I have extra reinforcements with new and sturdy material. Now I have both a wheelchair for my house and one for my car that I can use at the gym. That made my life so much easier. Jenn and a courteous staff member by the name of John Y. volunteered their time and installed both items for me right there at the club. The staff is so caring and friendly, and they do put the customer first as you can see. There is also a friendly lady who works at the front desk named Jenny V. who helps me put my wheelchair in my car when I am ready to leave at the end of the day. The staff at this club makes me feel like I matter. They are like family to me. I am committed to being a lifelong member of this gym. I give my highest regards and recommendations to this staff and cannot speak highly enough about them. If you are looking for a new gym, please go to the Emerald City Athletic Club. You will not be disappointed.

The draw for ECA over big places like LA/24 hour was the smaller business vibe & I wanted to "shop local". I also liked the childcare options. 1. when we signed up at the Ballinger Village location with Brody, he made a big show of telling us (my husband and I) how they're a small business and they're not out to get money, he said most of them are just personal trainers or nutritionists, NOT BUSINESSMEN (i remember this line because he repeated it several times). So he encouraged me to sign up for the champions class. I asked specifically if I could cancel if it didn't fit my needs/baby schedule. He said "of course. But I'd recommend you try it for at least 60 days so you can really see if it works for you. And if you still need to cancel, just reach out. We're really chill here." This was near verbatim. 2. After more than a couple months, I found the champions class great for others but not for me/my toddler's schedule so I emailed to cancel which was the ONLY option I was given. And the email response was short, rude, and included a "$299 + tax downgrade fee" for the cancellation. Mind you, I wasn't trying to cancel our membership. Just MY champions access. I told them what Brody had told us just months prior and they absolutely didn't budge. That's fine. It's policy - I get it. But this is totally the kind of stuff big businesses pull and they should be up front. 3. We ended up completely cancelling our memberships (both of us) because we thought this way of business was shady and when you think about the cost and what they offer v. what big gyms offer (LA/24) then you'll realize it's absolutely not worth it. all that talk in the beginning is EXACTLY what it sounds like. a sales pitch. don't be sucked in. oh also. i left a review for ballinger which i think is their newest but i usually go to everett (my husband goes to ballinger and I've been a couple times) - uniquely to the everett location, everything is disgusting. I would NOT shower there if I were you. At least one different machine is broken every week, the bathroom is perpetually wet probably because they have no paper towels. Honestly we go to 24 hour now and it's a breath of fresh air. literally **I will say the teachers at the childcare are above and beyond. I have told everyone I know about our ECA experience and hopefully saved people quite a bit of $$$ but I have nothing negative to say about the teachers at childcare. ** in case my review is too long. read this reddit forum. https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/oanvzy/emerald_city_athletics_a_toxic_manipulative_and/

What I really, really love about this place is the sense of community that has been created by the owner, instructors, and the staff. I can't speak highly enough about the culture and environment that Coaches Jeff and Leah have created! As a healthcare provider, I will continue to send my patients to North Corner Studios because they will achieve their goals in a healthy way, have less chance for injuries with the form and cues that Jeff and Leah will teach them and they will definitely have fun along the way! If ever I would like to sign up again, I would still have to pay $200. This seems like a rip off and my kid come here for his classes and I come here for my beginner classes as well. Seems like it doesn't matter about customer satisfaction for them. They will Include any rule to make sure they are getting the money. Again, I like individuals here. But as business they definitely suck. I would not recommend being a member here cause as long as you are remember, you are fine but other than that it's a loss of money for you. Be careful to becoming their member because it is a rip off, you may not know it just yet.

Xtra Fitness is a studio that is so much better than any of the others in the area around here. Not…read moreonly is it better; it is different, unique, and unusual. But you might not believe me, so let me begin by convincing you that I know well what I'm talking about: I'm Jeff G., a retired English teacher, and I have been working out at Xtra Fitness for 10 years now. And my workouts include doing between two and three sessions daily: circuit-training sessions; personal fitness training workouts; pilates work on the Reformer; and spinning classes on the stationary bikes. I have dropped 30 pounds since I started working out at Xtra Fitness 10 years ago; and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in. Oh! Almost forgot to mention: I just celebrated my 77th birthday. So, yes, I know Xtra Fitness studio well: its owners and trainers; its routines, advantages, and offerings; its ability to make you and your fitness level significantly 'new and improved'; and the list of benefits goes on and on for mega-miles. Xtra Fitness is not one of those corporate organizations that has 200 branches in 300 cities where you pay your money and take your chances, where you're working out alone together with 400 other nameless patrons. No, Xtra Fitness is a single studio owned and operated by Steve and Vanessa, both of whom are sincerely dedicated to improving their patrons' fitness levels, and wonderfully knowledgeable in the art and science of personal fitness training. Steve knows 87 different ways to exercise every muscle group. The variety of exercises he designs and uses in the circuit-training sessions keeps the sessions interesting, challenging, and fun. You'll find the circuit-training to be wonderfully worthwhile, and you'll quickly get into a routine of coming often and making the circuits an exercise habit. Vanessa is a sports-fitness machine. She is sincere and passionate about maintaining her own fitness and promoting fitness in others. And she is certified in so many aspects of personal fitness and sports medicine. The only certifications she doesn't hold are those that haven't been invented yet. Wait'll you start working with Vanessa in pilates on the Reformer. She'll improve your balance and flexibility, and you'll notice the changes quickly. I certainly did. And Vanessa is the most sensational instructor for the spinning classes on the stationary bikes. She's fun and demanding, encouraging you to do more than you think you can and making you feel good about it all. And talk about burning calories and body fat! At the end of the spinning sessions, I find I've lost almost half my body-weight...or, at least, it feels that way. It's a great feeling of accomplishment. This past year, of course, has been difficult for gyms and fitness studios because of the Covid crisis. Everyone has been afraid to work out for fear of getting those virus cooties, but the gyms - and Xtra Fitness, too - are opening up again and are welcoming patrons. I've been encouraged and reassured to keep coming to Xtra Fitness this past year because I have seen 'up close and personal' how careful Steve and Vanessa are with maintaining the studio's cleanliness. They keep a clean and safe environment with hospital grade cleaning supplies and sanitizers; they follow the updated government requirements to keep their members safe; and they keep the equipment at Xtra sanitized and disinfected at all times. For all these reasons, I recommend Xtra Fitness to you highly. And when you come in, be sure to ask Steve and Vanessa "Where's Jeff?" because I'll very likely be right there working through the circuit-training session, or doing one of many exercises during my personal-training hour with Steve; or I might be in the room next door stretched out on the Reformer or spinning my legs off on the stationary bike. But I will be there, just as I've been there for the past 10 years. And I'll be happy to meet you. It's a great place to work out and get in shape. Believe me, I know.

I stopped attending the weekly trainings about halfway through for a number of reasons: 1) Grace and/or Arnie more often than not were not present and had a random volunteer pacer do their best to lead the run in their place, 2) there was essentially no coaching even when Grace and/or Arnie did show up beyond a pep talk and stretch or a quick chat about running attire/gear/fuel, 3) of the 20 paid participants, a good week saw 5 show up, and 4) very basic information like training calendars was consistently inaccurate, unavailable, or unclear. 5) The final nail in the coffin for me was their inability to communicate by any direct channel other than a web of Facebook groups and PMs, despite having all of my personal contact info on file as a paid member and as a paid participant in the training I registered for. It's clear this family business was built on good intentions and a passion for athletics. Unfortunately the followthrough I experienced was completely half hazard, disorganized at best, and a barrage of Facebook promotional content for their running and personal training events. If you're a fan of juggling multiple Facebook groups on a daily basis so you can keep track of a recreational running calendar no one shows up for, look no further. Save your money and join any number of better organized FREE area running clubs if you're looking to train for a big run. **EDIT: Since sharing my experience, I've been on the receiving end of a series of personal attacks from Grace. Most notably, she felt it appropriate to broadcast to the thousands of followers of her PNWLRG Facebook pages that I was not welcome, and anyone who associated with me was also not welcome. This continues to be the least professional fitness experience of my life.
