Many years ago I worked out at a gym that taught Muay Thai. It was a regular gym that just happened to have an instructor who loved and taught Muay Thai classes. I was there for the first class (the only one in that class) and by the time I moved away he was teaching 5 classes a week and I was going to every class. It was the only workout that I stuck with and I loved it. I learned something every class and never got bored.
I moved away from my gym and I tried doing kickboxing classes at regular gyms but it wasn't the same, it was cardio kickboxing not real kickboxin so I stopped doing kickboxing classes and tried zumba and everything else but I never liked any of the gyms I joined. I was just a membership due, they didn't care if I came or if I didn't.
This year I decided it was time to get serious about getting in shape. The only thing that I really enjoyed was kickboxing so I had to put my big girl pants on and look into a real kickboxing gym. I was extremely nervous. I didn't kickbox to fight, I kickboxed for exercise. I had no interest in going into a macho, muscle bound gym but decided I had to at least try it and see. I checked out a bunch of gyms online and Charlie's was the closest so I checked them out first and I found a home.
There is absolutely zero intimidation factor walking into the gym, don't get me wrong, they take their training seriously, but they don't take themselves seriously. The gang at C3 are welcoming to all, whether this is your first class or your first class after 9 years. You jump right in and are treated the same. You're never made to feel bad for what you can't do, just encouraged by what you can do. My original intent was to start slow, go to class 2 or 3 times a week and join another gym to do other workouts. There was no need, before I knew it, I was going to kickboxing 4 times a week, still working on trying to get myself back to 5 times a week but life seems to get in the way.
What really makes Charlie's Combat Club stand out from the rest of the gyms out there are the coaches. Charlie leads by example and his fellow coaches follow. No matter who is teaching the class, I'm excited. I get a different experience with each of them yet, there is continuity in how they teach and interact with students. They all are experienced fighters and they bring that to the table but all MMA gyms have that. What they have are exceptional coaches who are all passionate about teaching. If you're a member of C3, you're family. You are not a nameless, faceless membership due that they collect every month. You are a student that they're excited to teach and they notice if you're not there. I signed up for the gym and then left for work for months unexpectedly. I had probably gone to three classes before I left. When I returned Coach Chris had a huge smile on his face and said, "I'm so happy to see you."
There are enough classes to work with anyone's schedule. I hate joining gyms where there's maybe 2 or 3 classes a week that you can do that fit your schedule.
If you're reading this review then you're considering Charlie's Combat Club. Check them out. You won't be disappointed.
PS: I hear they have one week free trial membership for new members, you have nothing to lose (except weight) and everything to gain. read more
