Chicken Cobb salad
Jane C.

I've been seeing this diner since I was a tot and my parents would drive down on Route 4. Since I've been treating it like a landmark all these years, I can't believe I waited this long to finally step in. Inside, the restaurant is spacious, with plenty of booths and tables (and parking spaces in their free lot) to accommodate a mealtime rush. We shared a Cobb salad and a California burger (with lettuce, tomato, and avocado), both of which were tasty and quickly prepared. While I wouldn't recommend Coach House for a first date, there is a charm and a characteristic old-school diner feel to this place. Service was extremely attendant (sometimes crossing over into overzealousness, like when refills for our water glasses were offered four times in a ten minute space), but I wondered if it was because were were there on a slow Monday night. I especially appreciated there was no rush for us to finish a meal, since we got a chance to bump elbows with a big group that rents out the big area in front of the fireplace for their regular game night. Given what I can see about this big, homey, casual eatery, I could see why someone would host such a thing here.

So, I've lived in Oradell for almost 9 years. Have been warned to stay away and today I learned why. Service was abysmal. And the food (and presentation) was not much better.

It's great to have a 24-hour restaurant option where you can enjoy a delicious meal and excellent service, even late at night. Plenty of seating options, plants give it a nice touch. Everyone in our group had a wonderful dining experience!

Food was decent and decor is cool that it has an old school tavern vibe but the service and prices were what brings this place down. Waited a while to have the servers even come over to bring the menus and then after waiting for a while they were kind of no where to be found, someone from our party had to go find a server and ask them to come take our order. Food was just alright, not a ton of flavor and I thought it was a little pricey for what you get. A smallish glass of orange juice that didn't taste like fresh squeezed and was supposed to be their "large" was $5. I got two eggs over avocado toast and that was $15, i understand what the economy is like these days but a basic dish like that which doesn't even include meat can't cost that much to make. Someone in my party got the "lumberjack platter" I think it was called which was supposed to include three different meats, the server stated they didn't have sausage so we thought that person would get more of the other meats or the price would be lower but that wasn't the case. He asked about it when paying his bill and they basically said "it is what it is". My biggest complaint about the pricing which I feel like was kind of scammy was that when I went to pay, my credit card didn't seem to be working the first two times and then the third time that the hostess swiped it, they just kept clicking a bunch of buttons real fast and had me just sign and I said "oh I didn't get a chance to put in what tip I was going to leave" and the hostess said "don't worry about it" and then as I walked out and proceeded to check my receipt there was a 30% tip added onto my bill. I was only going to leave 20% seeing as the service wasn't over the top and deserving more than 20% IMO, but I wasn't given that option. The other two people in my party were given the option to put a tip in when they swiped their card so I know it wasn't just a blanketed thing for everybody or how the machine normally worked. Plenty of other diners in the area so I would rather spend my money elsewhere at a place with better service and lets me choose how much tip I leave.

9. Mexican Omelet

Came here to meet a friend for breakfast while I was in town visiting. Even though I lived in Jersey for years I never visited. It was actually pretty good. I had the Mexican omelet and I was able to customize it how I wanted. The staff was nice and prompt. The food was pretty good and they have large portions. It's not some fancy place but it was family friendly. Would come back next visit!

Solid food from a solid place. We've been coming here for years and have always experienced pleasant service with pleasant food. The food is fair, nothing to write home about, but it's never been bad, just consistently good. Sunny side up eggs and corned beef hash. Good. Chicken parm. Good. BLT sandwich, tastes like it should. The ambiance is nice for a dinner depending which section you are seated in. The place can get busy but the staff is on top of checking in. A good place in a pinch, even with large parties.

The food and service was amazing. Nicely decorated. The blueberry pancakes were delicious- soft and moist with a fair amount of blueberries. The syrup was very light and tasty. The omelette was nicely cooked. Definitely will be back.

Breakfast bowl

We stopped by for breakfast/brunch and were greeted by friendly staff. My husband got the taco breakfast bowl and said it was delicious. I got the French toast and it was also delicious!

There has to be a secret history of this place, which was apparently founded in 1983. The interior is far too ornate to be a diner. So what did this place used to be? Oh, you want to hear about the food? It's fine. But what about that decor? The fox hunting theme, the colonial paintings and dioramas? I'm thinking steak house, but the fellow at the counter indicated chicken. If anyone has the scoop on the Coach house, please let me know.

Coach House is probably older than me. The food is still just as good, especially late at night. One of the very few diners open late.

Go here because of convenient location. Everything else (food, service, decor, cleanliness) is slightly below average for a NJ diner.

The Garden State is still known as the diner capital of the world. Located off Essex Street in Hackensack, this establishment is one of the handful of 24-hour diners. With its unique harlequin decor, Chit Chat remains a chic, upscale diner that we frequent often with friends and family. Upon arrival this morning, my partner, his family, and I were greeted by the staff at the host station, and we were able to get a table quickly. The menu was extensive, and we took our time looking but did not feel rushed. Their menu includes a lot of things one may not find on a regular menu. We decided on their brunch menu and ordered Raspberry & Brie Stuffed French Toast, Santorini Benedict, Bro-Nana Cocoa-Nuts Multigrain Pancakes, and Chorizo Hash & Eggs with a choice of a complimentary mimosa, bloody Mary, or Bellini. The food is always fresh and tastes delicious. The portion is healthy and the prices reasonable. The service is consistently fast and friendly. Our server was Ashley. We're so glad we did, because this hole in the wall turned out to be a diamond in the rough. With a nondescript exterior and limited signage, Foodies Diner is easy to miss. It's in an area with mainly houses and mixed use commercial buildings, but the space inside is cozy. I especially appreciated the way the owner greeted everyone who enters and thanked everyone who leaves with notable warmth and small-town friendliness. The menu reads like a true diner - with all-day breakfast and brunch options, as well as standard lunch fare. We ordered a Santa Fe salad and an L.A. burger - which comes with avocado, bacon, onion, lettuce, and tomatoes. The burger was pretty standard, but having it delivered on a warm brioche bun feels a little bit special. The accompanying fries were also great - crisp and potatoey on the inside. The salad, on the other hand, was a near triumph. Served on a large platter, there was a small field of well-seasoned chicken, shredded cheddar, vegetables, avocado, pico de gallo, and - best yet - some pieces of warm, toasted pita. I even sprinkled some pieces of bacon from my burger into this salad, and wow did that take it over the top. I dug into this salad with fair gusto and would absolutely come back for it...which is saying something, since I wouldn't expect to fall in love with a salad at a diner. Service was fantastic, and we were pleased with how reasonably priced our meal turned out to be. There's plenty of parking - either right out front or in the lot further back.

So it's nice not to have to deal with all the lousy traffic and crazy drivers especially at 9 AM on a Sunday Almost nobody on the road. It's a little tricky to pull into the diner so I had to make a right turn and then drive straight across Route 17 and park in the diner It was pretty crowded when I got there around 9:30 AM. I sat at the counter and said hello to John. Got a menu and decided to order the veggie omelette. Add mushrooms well done potatoes and white toast with coffee, of course I talk with John and kid it around with him for a little bit in between when he was grabbing the plates from the cook then bring them out to the customers at the booth or sitting on the stools at the counter My breakfast came out and I was pretty hungry. Loved how the omelette looked. Nicely done on the grill some spots on the edges had a nice golden brown those potatoes look excellent also Very flavorful the omelette with the cheese, mushrooms and other healthy vegetable vegetables. Everyone was chatting and john was having a good time talking to everyone. But he had to pay attention to what the short order cook was saying to him so he could bring the plates to the right tables. Someone next to me was having sausage so I decided to order a side of sausage which was done nicely on the grill. Split and then put on the grill so it was nicely done on the inside of the sausage. Where it was split, of course. I even got one of the danishes for dessert. I'll definitely come back again soon. I know that the patty melt is supposed to be very good so I think I'll have an early breakfast one of these mornings this week. You can't beat a diner like this regular customers chatting John kidding around with the customers and the short order to cook Family places like this not many are left around in the area. There is always a wait at lunchtime regardless if you want to dine in or take out. I have been a fan of what they do for a long time because you just don't see this type of establishments around anymore. They have certainly stood the test of time. Beef patties, smashed with a lot of grilled finely cut onions, then add pickles, American cheese, and some ketchup, on a soft pillowy Martin's potato bread is a can't miss right? This formula has not changed here for decades. Like I said, I really appreciate the deep history. However, if I'm being honest, I wish the beef quality was better and the cook would add a tad more seasoning. For me, their burger has always tasted slightly bland compared to my favorite burger joints. Yet I still come back. Prices are not what it once was either, but what is? It's still very inexpensive. What I consider a large slider rather than a full size burger is still considered good eats in my book. I certainly would stop by when in the neighborhood if the lines are reasonable.
