Our old gas furnace recently went kaput so we had to replace it. We called CMR because they are local, family run and not beholden to a private equity firm. They were great. Installed the new furnace within 48 hours of us contacting them, and that was in the heart of winter with temps in the teens. We will be calling them again for future projects. read more

Had my summer setup visit today. Rich was great and had it all tuned up in short order. CMR staff are terrific and are responsible and careful workers. They've been our HVAC go to guys since 2016. Highly recommend. Fair price for exceptional service. read more

The best experience ever! Many repair services end up charging me for parts I didn't even need, not CMR, they hire honest technicians who conduct a complete diagnosis and even provide a full write up of all work done. They will not charge you for unnecessary parts. CMR is among the best repair service and experience we have ever had. read more

We replaced our 40 year old gas furnace with an air source heat pump, and our old gas water heater with a heat pump water heater. The CMR team, headed by Andy Bobo, followed through consistently from initial consultation to installation. Top marks for communication with us, attention to detail, and for a team that worked well together. We like the new system, and we recommend CMR! read more

Our furnace was quitting out before getting to the set temperature. Called CMR and they scheduled Mike to come out the same morning. Took him no time at all to diagnose the problem and give some suggestions to stop it from happening again. AND he gave my dog some milkbones, so she's in love with him. This is the second time Mike has been out to our home to fix the furnace and he's a friendly, knowledgeable guy. Thanks, Mike! read more

We needed to replace our 23+ year old HVAC system after returning home from a long weekend to find no heat at our home. Got several estimates from local contractors including CMR Mechanical. Andy came out and explained our options and gave us a written quote on the spot. Since it was the most competitive we went with it. After providing space heaters for a couple of days, CMR came out and just completed our project. The installation looks and works great. Scott and Tim did a fabulous job. We couldn't be happier with our new system. If you need HVAC work in south east Michigan, don't proceed until you contact CMR. read more

In December 2014, I had a furnace check done by another local company who, upon visual inspection, advised me that I needed to replace the furnace due to a bad heat exchanger. As I was at home with a 8 month old, the serviceman said he wanted to "make sure that my baby would be safe", and proceeded to show me all the different types of new furnaces that I could purchase and install within the week. CMR Mechanical came for a second opinion. Charlie was extremely thorough, took apart the furnace to examine the heat exchangers (no cracks or rust), and did a combustion analysis which did not show any elevations in the carbon monoxide level. He even called the furnace manufacturer to discuss a few features on the particular model, and then also changed the gas pressure to the manufacturer setting. He was extremely knowledgeable and helped educate afterwards on everything he did. The next day, we noted the heat was actually worse, with minimal heat from the vents and unable to keep the heat above 65 degrees. I called CMR and within the hour Charlie called me back. Despite having an overbooked schedule due to the below 0 weather, he came and reexamined the furnace and spent an hour troubleshooting. The gas pressure adjustment (which he had put to the manufacturer setting) was inadvertently running the furnace too hot and setting off a high-limit shutoff. He readjusted the setting and marked on the furnace of the proper settings for the house so future servicemen would not make the same mistake. The other local company used my baby as a guilt trip to buy a new furnace. Charlie used my baby as motivation to go the extra mile to test whether there was an actual problem with the furnace (which there wasn't), and came back the following day to troubleshoot an inadvertent error. CMR has won my trust as a customer and will be my go-to for HVAC needs in the future! read more

I called CMR for issues with my furnace about a month and a half ago, so they sent out a repairman to fix the problem. He said he needed to return the next day to fully fix the problem; however, to this date no one has ever come back to my house. When I called them (They never contacted me) they said that they would be unable to fix the problem and instead of proposing solutions to leave me with a working furnace, they sent me an invoice for a repair of over $400. When I asked them if they would be able to give me a discount because they actually made it more difficult for me to get a working furnace, they said they would look into it and haven't contacted me regarding their decision. That was over a month ago, and now they sent me another invoice for the original amount plus a late fee. It is clear to me that CMR will help you up to the point where it is convenient for them, and pretend you don't exist once helping you isn't in their best interest. For this reason I would recommend not to choose them for repair jobs. read more

Our 1950 house did not have central air conditioning, unfortunately. Once we decided to remedy the situation, Andy Bobo from CMR promptly came out and conducted an estimate. He scheduled install within a week and was very responsive (even texting me directly with updates). During the installation, the power went out for the whole neighborhood. This meant they couldn't complete the job...on the hottest day on record this summer! Andy called me immediately and told me to text him when the power came on. When the power came back-he sent someone, after hours, to complete the job within an hour! We would definitely recommend CMR. All their employees were professional and kind. Great customer service and results. Thank you! read more

I have had CMR Mechanical out to do checks on my furnace and air conditioning. Our furnace is about 14 years old, and our A/C about 13 years old. I was a little apprehensive about having them out, thinking that they'd find some minor things here and there that would have to be fixed. I was pleasantly surprised both times when they cleaned things up, ran their checks, and said everything was fine. They could have easily sold me something I didn't need, but that's not the way they operate. If you're looking for an honest, dependable company that won't sell you things you don't need, call CMR Mechanical! read more

I decided to replace my old electric resistance baseboard heating with an air-source mini-split heat pump system. I had gotten bids from several companies, but was most satisfied with the one from Andy, who listened to what I needed and fit his proposal to my needs. I have a "unique" house, with lots of construction challenges for this work, like drilling through thick stone walls, but the crew managed all obstacles competently. The work was done well and promptly, and I am completely satisfied with the new system. Andy and his crew were easy to work with and professional. Andy always responded promptly to email, text, or phone. The work was done during the pandemic, and all workers wore masks and followed appropriate safety procedures. read more

A BIG SHOUT OUT FOR CMR! My furnace of nine years, which I purchased from CMR stopped working. A new motor was installed. Andy Bobo the owner stood behind the product and promptly replaced it, despite the fact that the warranty had expired. He proved that customer service and satisfaction were top priorities. CMR is a great company which I highly recommend. C Grace read more

Our outside A/C unit went out. Called CMR, Tech was out late that morning - took a total of 10 minutes (most of which was writing up the bill - emailed to me after the transaction). Total cost = $242 ($89 for visit and diagnosis, $153 for a capacitor that can be purchased on Amazon for $5) Considering the 3000% markup on parts, I honestly thought the Tech had misplaced a decimal point. Spoke with "Andy" the next day, who was rude and unsympathetic, telling me "that's standard book rate", "other people could have charged you $500", and chastising me "Your A/C is working, isn't it?!" This is one customer you'll no longer be overcharging. read more

I'm happy to reprise my five-star rating for CMR. This time, our furnace decided to blow its circuit board late in the day on the **day before Thanksgiving**! (How perfect is that?) Well, I rang up CMR when I realized the temp in the house was headed seriously south (and not in and good way...). It was after hours, so I left a message. My call was returned within about 20 minutes and wishing about 90 minutes their very excellent HVAC pro was standing on our doorstep, holiday or no. He rapidly diagnosed the problem and headed back to his truck where he had just the right part to get us back up and running. My questions were patiently answered as was excellent advice on the best way to go on a new furnace when the clock finally runs out on this one. As with all our past experiences, CMR was fast, friendly, informative, and fairly priced. Thanks so much for keeping our home warm and toasty! read more

Recently had them replace my furnace (20 years old with a bad heat exchanger). Fortunately, not a failure, so I could get a couple of quotes. So happy I went with CMR. Bid process was easy and quick; price was competitive. Installation was as promised and accomplished in one day. Crew was efficient and respectful of my home. Unit (installed three weeks ago) is working great, including during the recent polar vortex. Owner called back a few days later to check in. They are helping me with my DTE rebate. Couldn't ask for more. read more

After over a year of not having AC in our house, we are thankful for Scott from CMR for his hard work at fixing our complicated system. Multiple other companies had either made things worse or told us to buy a bigger system or that it had been installed incorrectly. Scott spent weeks working through all the problems--working directly with the manufacturer to figure out the problem, and finally fixing the AC throughout the house. His diligence and hard work on this job are to be commended. read more

Andy and his team are top notch! Our furnace stopped working and we were hoping it would be a small repair to get us through a few more months before we had to replace it. Unfortunately, we weren't so lucky. The scope of work and cost of the repairs didn't make sense for the age of the furnace and it was apparent replacing the furnace was a better investment. At no point EVER did I feel pressured, like they were duping me into replacing my furnace or that I was being sold upgraded equipment or services I didn't need. Andy and his tech took the time to thoroughly investigate and explain everything to me. The installers of our new furnace were professional, really efficient and also took time to answer my questions and explain our new furnace. Great company and excellent customer service! read more

They came on time and delivered exactly what I wanted. I was impressed with their knowledge about Bryant furnaces even noting mine had a known defect and identifying that they had a replacement credit available from Bryant. They even let me borrow 3 space heaters over the weekend when my furnace decided to stop functioning. They will be getting my business from here on out. This is the way to run a business. read more

I truly cannot say enough about CMR Mechanical. They are the absolute best. CMR Mechanical, came out to replace the water heater in our very old building. The guys did a fantastic job. They were clean, and quick, especially when they had to make adjustments because of the different size pipes they had to deal with in our old building. Price was very reasonable!!! Thanks guys!! read more

I've had CMR out to my house several times. Once right after we bought it to check on the furnace, AC and water heater, once to replace the water heater, and twice for seasonal checks on the system. The work has always be quick, efficient, and friendly. I call them about my water heater at around 10am last fall, and by 2pm, my new water heater was installed. I can't say enough good things about them! read more

CMR is the best. We've dealt with several other mechanical shops and none compare. 2 rooms upstairs are very cold, the competition told us that was a design flaw with our house and suggested space heaters. CMR put in a blower and the problem is solved. read more

I am a contractor in Ann Arbor and after spending years trying other HVAC companies I stumbled upon CMR Mechanical and haven't used anyone else since. They are professional, knowledgeable and honest. I hear horror stories about people being sold AC units they don't need, CMR is the guys people call after getting taken advantage of. Andy knows his stuff and will tell you what you need, not what is best for making money. They have a great product line and will do honest, quality service just like their tag line says! read more

Great customer service! I had an issue with my hot water heater and they sent a technician to my house immediately. He even went across town to pick up the needed part and came back a few hours later and finished the repair quickly. These guys are fantastic and are highly recommended! read more

What a terrible, terrible experience! CMR was supposed to repair a boiler which supplies our house with hot domestic water and radiant heat. For the first appointment, nobody showed up and we burned a vacation day for nothing. The second technician came, fiddled around, charged us ~$200 and left us with the same problem. The third technician told us we need a diverter valve but failed to order it for a whole week (until we inquired). The fourth technician who came to our place told us that they ordered the wrong part and he needs the serial number. By now the fourth week without hot water had started. CMR told us the part will be in within 3 days, next they told us it will take another 3-4 days for the part to arrive. So we called the manufacturer who was surprised by CMR's inability to get hold of the valve they needed. It shouldn't take longer than 1 day to arrive when ordered. The manufacturer encouraged us to tell CMR to call them directly to sort it out. CMR didn't. Instead, they used their web based ordering system - and of course due to supreme stupidity ordered the wrong part again. By now, 4 weeks were up and we had to leave for CA. In addition to the first problem, now the inducing motor started to rattle. The manufacturer ensured us that this won't be a serious problem for a while and we could go on vacation. We asked CMR to investigate the motor but don't do anything about it. CMR finally got the hold of the valve. Our house guest let them enter. They replaced the valve. They also replaced the motor. While doing that they broke another part the replacement of which needed to be brought from the company's premises. Their trucks seem to be poorly stocked on supplies. It took a while for that replacement part to arrive and of course they charged us for their blunder marking the time on the invoice. They wrote us an invoice about labor we haven't ordered with a price tag 4 times as high as agreed upon. However, they finally seemed to have managed to replace that valve. It only took them close to 5 weeks and cost us 4 half vacation days. Did I mention the work was done by technician Nr. 5? They never sent the same guy twice. They never sent the guy who actually installed the equipment in the first place. Of course this guy took away the parts he pried out of our boiler. I expected him to leave them, but that's just a side note. Whenever we talked to the owner, it seemed like he wasn't trained in the plumbing business. Instead he sounds like a salesman of sorts - and what a bad one. Now we are disputing their bill and the boss, Andy, gets all nasty, using threats and lies to make us comply to their ridiculous charges. So, if you have any other company to go to, do so. If not, maybe you should get a plumbing certificate and do the work on your own. read more
