I have been using Clutter every year over the last 4 years due to my unstable housing situation as a student. Every time I have used Clutter, they have been extremely kind, efficient, and helpful no matter how difficult my items have been to move. From whole tables to large drawers, they've been able to carefully package my items, maintain them in storage units for months on end, and deliver them in the same conditions they were before. clutter came out to my home and we walked through the home and they put blue tape on everything that was going into storage now about a year later I get the items back and the blue tape has damaged two of my leather chairs and clutter is saying that I put the tape on the items not their delivery guys. All the pictures show that there's a blue piece of tape on each item. Why would I have done that clearly they do not want to take responsibility for what their guys have done. I've tried to call several times. You don't get an answer or you get put on hold forever you can't talk to a real person. I would not recommend this company. I think at one time it was a good company however I'm being told that iron Mountain has taken it over and they do not have a good reputation. I was given a window of 11 to 3 for Clutter Storage to come pack my dishes and odds and ends TODAY. At 2:30 two young men arrived and informed us that they could only work for an hour, due to union rules. He estimated our job would take at least 3 to 4 hours. When we inquired as to what would happen to our job being finished, he shrugged his shoulders and said we'd have to get a hold of a supervisor and make a new appointment. I tried for 2 hours to get someone on the phone, and left a call me back number, but hours later, nothing. Now we have to live for another week with our things out everywhere for the next company we are going to try. I used Clutter years ago for a small 5x5 storage unit and was initially impressed with their user interface, delivery system, and the overall ease of use. I even recommended them to friends and family. Unfortunately, my recent experience was a complete disaster from start to finish. I hired Clutter again before leaving the country for a sabbatical. They showed up with only two movers for a large move, took long breaks, and couldn't complete the job. Despite offering to pay extra to hire or overtime more help, I was told that wasn't allowed and I'd need to reschedule--an impossible option, as I was flying out and giving up my apartment the next day. I ended up spending $1,000 out of pocket to move everything to a storage unit the very next day (finished 3 hours before my flight) so Clutter could pick it up from there, which they had agreed to. I left detailed instructions, made myself reachable internationally (phone, text, email, whatsapp, facetime, even my second phone), and got confirmation that I didn't need to be onsite. No one contacted me the day of pickup, yet I was charged a $200 cancellation fee. When I called to dispute it, they claimed they tried to reach me (they didn't) and refused to refund anything. The second attempt wasn't better. I appointed a family member as the point of contact and again confirmed that no one needed to be onsite. On the day of pickup, Clutter claimed they didn't have the gate code, lock combo, or unit number--we provided this over the phone. They were successfully and had even already opened the unit but then suddenly changed course and demanded someone be there physically or else they would cancel and I would be charged $200 again. I spoke to customer service while this was occurring and they said my two other separate colleagues were wrong, we need someone there now. My family member had to rush over and ended up helping move the items himself because the movers were essentially doing nothing. After weeks of stress, disorganization, poor communication, and unhelpful customer service (outsourced and seemingly disconnected), my belongings were finally stored. But the emotional toll, wasted time, and hidden costs were staggering. Bottom line: Clutter might seem cheaper up front, but the chaos, unreliability, and lack of accountability will cost you far more in the long run. What used to be an innovative service is now a disjointed, empathy-less mess. I will never use this company again and strongly advise others to stay far away. I decided to give this company a try and decided to move my stuff from a 10x10 storage to Clutter's 10x10 storage. Unfortunately, this was the biggest mistake I've done with a storage company! To my astonishment, I started to receive messages from Clutch telling me that I've gone over the limits of my 10x10 storage and that they will move me to the 10x15, however I needed to pay $72/month more. I WAS SHOCKED AND BETRAYED! The only reason I moved my stuff from my previous storage to them was to save money. If I had known this I would have NEVER moved as the new rate was even more than what I was paying. I called their customer support multiple times and opened a case with a manager. I could not understand how my things that were fitting fine on a 10x10 (to which I sent them video proof of this) were not fitting on their 10x10. At that point is when I was told... "This is because our storages only have a 4ft ceiling and their storages are not the same as others" - I could NOT believe this. I then proceeded to research the industry and I found out the following: 1. They compare themselves with other storages clearly on their website 2. They advertise the 10x10 storage size and compare it to the size of a "garage size" (there is no garage that has a 4ft ceiling. 3. The industry standard for ALL storage units across the US is 7-8ft. 4. Nowhere on their website they disclose their storage ceiling height. 5. Nowhere on their Terms & Conditions they disclose their storage ceiling height. Even after showing them all this proof, their customer service and management acted as if they couldn't care less and were told that they would not be changing my account. Currently, I am in the process of filing a lawsuit against this company in light of proven Deceptive Business Practices and reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission. Note, the pattern you see across all of the negative reviews of being overcharged, the extremely poor customer service, and the absurdity of their delivery service. On my initial pick up which simply involved a move/transfer from a 10x15' storage container into a Clutter truck (with all of my items pre-packed) I was overcharged $242.83 for "extra" delivery time (see attached photo). I was also charged for a larger storage container than what I actually needed, which is convenient for Clutter because they forced me to pay $320 vs. $240 per month. This was all done without my consent. I intentionally did not sign their pick up service agreements because I have documentation proving that I was being overcharged for the pick up service time and a larger container (than what I was quoted and what I was using with a previous storage company). read more

This is the initial offer page:https://www.clutter.com/locations/california/san-diego/storage This is what I read that satisfied what I needed from the service: "Now with Clutter, you can ACCESS San Diego storage units across the city, including popular neighborhoods like, Bankers Hill, Camp Pendleton, Del Mar, Escondido, La Mesa, Morena, Old Town, Pacific Beach, Sorrento Valley, Tierrasanta, and more." In reality - and hidden behind a hyperlink buried in a FAQ - I have no access to my property without paying the remaining contract of $500 USD. And my "local pickup" to retrieve my property is 2 hours (with good traffic in Fontana) when it clearly states I'd have access to a storage unit in San Diego. Upon filing a claim, they say if I had clicked away from the page and look at the buried FAQ, I would see what I was signing up for. Obviously, this is not how it works in 2023, and I would have used a different service if I knew this was the actual service provided! I'm furious they are holding my property for ransom and then using what the FTC calls "unscrupulous tactics" to try to send the burden back to me, when I read the offer page and signed up accordingly. Obviously in FTC requirement point #2, not having access to my property and having a pickup location 2 hours away was not listed on the signup page as well. Otherwise I never would have done it. Whatever you do do not use this company. I was with make space before they merged with clutter and was never even aware of the merge until a clutter truck showed up to pick up my items. I was strong armed into signing paperwork or threatened to leave all of my items when it was my last day to move out. They also fail to inform you that removing your items you have to make an appointment, only have an option of Fridays weeks out and the facility is in Fontana and I'm in Los Angeles. They also charge you over $500 for you TO PICK UP YOUR OWN STUFF!! They are not upfront about these fees and practices and hide behind emails instead of dealing with issues head on. If you choose for them to deliver, there is a $469 service charge and then they want to also charge you $80/hr in addition to the "service charge" to deliver your items. At no point and time was I informed about any of the above. Trust me this is not a practical solution. It's way cheaper to have your stuff in an actual storage unit where you can access your items at your own terms. Oh and to have just 5 small to medium size items delivered to you it's over $200. I hired clutter to be the movers for my temporary move. 6 days to be exact is the amount of time they stored my belongings. I was excited to find a serviced that would not only move my belongings but store them for me as my apartment was still getting renovated. I gave the company a call after finding them here on yelp and I spoke with the gentleman who gave me a price breakdown of how much my entire move would cost. I was told that due to me getting storage I was going to be given 10 mover hours for free. I asked a ton of questions to ensure that I understood what I was getting and I was led to believe for 10 hours out of my move would be free from there I would pay $65 per mover per hour. Giving of the property I had I was told I would definitely be able to move all of my belongings within 10 hours which would be a total price of $385. $190 for storage & $195 for labor ( which would be waived if move was completed within 10 hours). The day of the move I was told something completely different about my 10 free mover hours. I was sent 5 movers to do 2 hours of work each which would be classified as " 10 mover hours" vs 10 hours in total for my move. I did have to pay around $60 extra for more storage space & the extra prorated labor cost at $65 per hour per mover. Total for picking up my things $275.00. Despite the bad review based on business acumen of company, the team of movers were great! They were very pleasant and explained in detail the correct way I was charged. They worked hard the entire time and kept things very organized. Our movers were Alberto, Ricardo, James & Luke. I appreciate them very much. Customer service from them is definitely the silver lining to this horrible experience. They day of dropping off my stuff went great. Again the team explained how the strategy of returning stuff in my new home and the did it in a hour and a couple minutes! I am truly impressed work ethic. Lifting heavy things all day & seriously they didn't stop to even take a water break until I insisted! ( The only reason clutter gets a start is due to workers) A couple of my belongings were broke. I will upload pictures. After placing my first call when given my initial inventory list I called back a couple days later to add my TVs, more boxes& some book shelves. Well one of my tv's ( 55 inch Samsung Curve smart tv) is broken along with 2 of my bookshelves. One bookshelf is in complete pieces, and the other one is snapped apart. My tv is completely broken and you want to know the best part, they will only cover $1.00 per lb. So my $1k tv is worthless and I will not even get 10% of the price. The call center misled me to a sell with wrong information and price, didn't take initiative to pitch me additional insurance after adding EXPENSIVE items and when informing that my items are damages they were little to no help. I would definitely not recommend this place unless you want to be mislead to a rip off sale and your things broken with no help from company. I first started using this service when it was MakeSpace. They were phenomenal. A few years ago, they were bought out by Clutter. The monthly fees have increased slightly ($119 to $139 to now $163)/mo. But the worst part is the fees to have your stuff brought to you. I live in a condo with no storage facility, so I have to store my holiday decor items and have them brought to me each year. This year, the FEE to bring me the items is $494 PLUS a service charge (God only knows what that is)!??! ARE THEY INSANE? The whole idea is that you can access your stuff easily for a very low fee as much as you need. It was really cheap when it was MakeSpace - and slowly it went up. But this is literally *unaffordable*. Since I not only have to bring everything here for Christmas, I have to send back the empty bins during the holidays, and then have them brought back so I could pack up Christmas and then send it back to storage until next Christmas. So what will that cost? ~$500 each time (x 4 trips) ~$2,000?+ fees!! I AM FUMING. I feel like my items are being held hostage. TAKE MY ADVICE AND DO NOT EVEN THINK OF USING THIS "SERVICE". UPDATED: As of now 11/10/22, no one has reached out to me to resolve this. UPDATED: As of 12/3/22 I have my belongings. When I clicked to cancel the service, it immediately offered me 40% off my monthly fees! WHAT?! If you can offer me 40% off every month when I tell you I am canceling, then WHY am I paying so much in the first place? I had the most seamless experience having a mattress delivered to me in Los Angeles from San Diego. They were helpful every step of the way. Even though I'm not the one with the clutter account, I was the point person at the pick up location, everything was smooth and the people who came to my home exercised great care and teamwork. We moved into a brand new house and the movers left a huge dent in the wall. The pictures dont adequately show the damage. The dent was deep, through the layer of drywall and larger than a quarter. The movers NEVER said anything about the damage. Not only is that extremely unprofressional but it's a brand new place so it was even more upsetting. The time and money it has cost to paint match for touch up, wall putty to fill the whole and paint supplies has been beyond frustrating. I bore with this company as it experienced start up growing pains, including changing rates mid-contract. At this rate, Clutter will not withstand the test of time. It seemed great at first for my needs but failed explicitly offer additional coverage for my belongings and broke my 2 year old $750 65 inch TV and offered me $57! In addition to changing the fees mid-way my contract, only to change it back when I complained, they changed the original policy and began to charge for returns without warning. If you signed on with this company in the early years, you should definitely review your plan and either cancel or renegotiate. Clutter has damaged multiple items of mine and they only cover $1 per pound re: insurance. So for a broken lamp that cost $250 you might get $20 if you're lucky. To date, Clutter has now broken a West Elm lamp, an expensive buffet table, damaged an expensive leather and wood barstool, lost all the inside shelves to my buffet table - so it's useless as well as smaller damages to less valuable items. I have been using this company for years and told everyone I know how great they are. So I am retracting every positive comment I've ever left and warn everyone about using this service. I am so mad at myself for not checking the yelp reviews about all the hidden fees and all the other crap that this company pulls. It is hilarious that they boast transparent pricing on their website and accurate quotes but when it comes down to your bill they pile on fees that you're completely unaware of. We booked them to move no more than 15 minutes away. The only reason we booked them was because we saw a groupon for $250 off. We were quoted $169 for at least 3 hours which was fine. My boyfriend stayed up till almost 5am packing boxes and we were really only having them take the heavy stuff which was mostly our couch, a hall tree, two bookcases and our bed. There were a few more things but those were priorities. First all they showed up a little after 10 and lagged on actually moving anything. A supervisor stopped by to see how long they would take because they had another big job after and they insisted it wouldn't take long because we didn't have much and anything that wasn't ready we weren't requiring them to move because we had enough to move it ourselves. They ended up taking a lunch around 1230 after they were done putting our stuff in their truck. They got to our new place around 115 and began moving stuff in. They were done around 230 and sent my boyfriend they bill for over $800! $169 times 4 (even though we shouldn't be billed for their lunch) is not $800 and they hadn't taken the groupon off. When we called to inquire they started mentioning double drive time and a packing fee which 1. doesn't equal $800 still and 2. was not clearly stated in their transparent quote Overall super disappointed in this place. This is by far the worst company I've ever done business with. I used them a couple years ago and virtually had no problems with them. I paid a great rate for moving and putting my stuff in storage I again hired them to move and store my stuff for 10 days in between moving apartments and was told my monthly storage fee would be included with the move. This time it was the exact opposite. I'm not sure if they are struggling because of COVID and have to resort to doing shady business practices and take advantage of their customers to get by or what. To make a long story short a bunch of things were left out in my quote and I was surprised with all these hidden fees when the movers showed up. $709 dollars for a service charge? How ridiculous considering I'm not even moving any furniture into my new apartment and it's a short distance move. I'm going to wind up paying more to these idiots then my actual first month of rent in downtown San Diego mind you which isn't cheap to live. On top of that the movers didn't finish packing and moving my stuff in the timeframe they said it would be done. One of the movers was slow and mentioned that he was hungover from the night before. I was trying to help them load all my belongings in their truck towards the end and they told me that they had to take off to the next job. I had to basically move all my stuff that didn't make it onto the truck back into my apartment and the cleaners I hired to clean the apartment couldn't even fully clean the apartment. I had to cancel and move around work that I had the following day so that they could come and move the rest of my stuff out and lost wages from work I wasn't able to do. When they came back the next day they rushed everything out and I again got charged again for the items they missed. On top of that there were things they forgot to pack that I had to pack in my car that they left behind. If I didn't have an extra day to move out I would have been completely screwed. Moving is already stressful enough but Clutter has made it an extremely awful and horrific experience. I don't know what went wrong with them. I hope they read this and make things right. read more

​I'm not one to leave these types of reviews, but I wanted to provide transparent feedback and our experience with using Clutter. We first booked a storage unit in August 2021 when this company was MakeSpace. My husband was deployed overseas, so we needed somewhere to keep all of our stuff while I moved home to be with family for 7 months. They were great, movers were on time, and it was worth the money.  During this time, they were acquired by Clutter. Leading up to getting our stuff back (March 2022) we were told multiple times that they still honor the MakeSpace prices for those customers. I spoke to 3 different reps who confirmed this and we were told our profile shows us as a MakeSpace customer. Turns out that wasn't true either because that honor system only lasted 30 days after Makespace changed their policy in September 2021. When trying to get your stuff back, make sure you know before booking that you can't get your stuff out of storage yourself and have to be at the mercy of when they're available. (Even though their site says otherwise). We had to wait 3-4 weeks before an appointment was available and moved into a new apartment with none of our stuff. It's not lost on me that companies everywhere are short staffed and if this is the case for Clutter, I completely understand . But be upfront with expectations and don't advertise quick deliveries. We felt like we were left scrambling without any communication. A few of our items were also broken and scratched, but thankfully it was minor so we were able to glue things back together and/or buffer it out. Positive feedback to add here though is the movers that day were extremely efficient. They got everything to us in 2.5 hours for a 2 bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor. They were great! They don't do prorated rates, which to me is not the best customer service. We were billed every month on the 28th, but they didn't have openings until April 1st, so we were still stuck paying for a storage unit that we didn't use (which was $554). They told me I could try to submit a claim to be reimbursed, but I did that and never heard back. If customers have to wait until you have available openings, prices should reflect accordingly. Communication and prices were different in every conversation. I wish we just did self storage and hired different movers. I was torn between giving 2 and 3 stars, because the movers do make it extremely easy. They were professional and friendly and I know moving into an apartment on the 3rd floor is no easy task. For that, we were very grateful. read more

COMPLETE SCAM absolutely do not use this company unless you want to be stuck with hundreds of dollars of additional charges and shitty customer service. This company completely took advantage of me and is charging me for an additional month of storage that I do not need or want because they are unable to deliver my stored items before the agreed upon one month contract date that I signed up for. They are withholding my items and leaving me without furniture and with hundreds of dollars in fines because of their limited staff and poor delivery service. read more

Oh my goodness what a pleasant experience I had while dealing with the cumbersome cluster of a task that is my overwhelming collection of clutter Every single step of the clutter removal process was pleasant and simple. Frustrated with having to wade through my living space, I requested an online quote in the middle of a Thursday night. On Friday morning, the nicest guy named Rome called. He was patient, informative, empathetic, and professional. He told me they could come pick up stuff from my place. He said that they would even pack it up if needed! He was thorough about the options available and assured me that if I miscalculated my need, they'd adjust in my favor. Rome arranged for Clutter to pick up my junk on EASTER SUNDAY! Did I incur an additional holiday fee? NOPE. In fact, the prices were far lower than I could've imagined. The Clutter crew, Victor and Mike, literally lowered my price while picking up my stuff because they decided I didn't need the 10x10 space I arranged. Dude, they changed my order to a 5x5 option as we stood over the stacks of bins on my front porch! Sidebar: How many times have you received an immediate discount? I usually have to wait 10-30 days for my account to reflect credits and refunds. Not with Clutter. Not on Easter Sunday morning. No wait at all. Victor and Mike contacted me a little before 10am to let me know they were arriving, and I swear it felt like they kind of apologized for being a few minutes EARLY! My scheduled two hour window was from 10-12 noon. Can you believe that they were early? It's true. Remarkable. Seriously. My place was in such messy disarray that they should've been giving me side eyes and mutterings of disdain, but no- I felt NO JUDGEMENT AT ALL. They were so nice it put me at ease. They were super efficient. They were gentle about handling my junk- even on the stairs! When I had a slight spaz attack, Mike and Victor offered to help me as I struggled to re-pack a parcel, and it seemed like they honestly didn't mind the interruptive delay. Thinking about how out of sorts I felt, I now wonder if they take counseling classes to deal with folks like me. I was super ashamed when I realized that I hadn't thought to have cash on hand for a tip. Mind you, I wasn't being charged for labor (on Easter Sunday). I looked through a few purses to find cash, and the lovely gentlemen, Mike and Victor, who were doing all of the heavy lifting, assured me tipping was neither necessary, required, nor expected. I couldn't believe it and continue to be stunned. I wish I had more than the $20 I managed to unearth for them to split. They seemed so genuinely appreciative of the inadequate gesture. Look, I can admit that I teeter on the verge of real hoarder status. It's hard for me to let go of things, and I'm overly sentimental. I have accumulated a LOT of stuff. Learning to let go and actually letting go is difficult and emotional. Having the Clutter crew as a resource increases the likelihood of successfully achieving a style of living which allows me to walk throughout my living space without hazard and obstruction. Mike and his team were outstanding to work with. Having been with other moving companies in the past these gentlemen went above and beyond their call and not only reciprocated very pleasant hospitality but conducted business in a very professional and efficient manner. When I move back into San Diego would very much like to have these gentlemen help me should they be available. They all definitely deserve a raise! This is a very late review, but we wanted to write one anyways for Clutter. My husband I used their service about a year ago. We were incredibly impressed by the care, speed, and dedication of the movers and packers. We have never moved and stored items so efficiently and with such organization and help. They brought all the boxes and packed up our whole apartment in just a few hours. They did the same when we moved into our other apartment a month later. We couldn't be happier with their service and we will definitely use Clutter again in the future. Ps If this is still a feature, we recommend getting the insurance just to cover any accidental damages. Their insurance policy is amazing and paid for the damages to few of our items to get them replaced. read more

Clutter is the best moving company I have ever dealt with. The movers were professional and courteous. Next time I move, I will definitely use Clutter.
