My 80 y.o. MIL had a problem - she needed her electrical panel and wall sockets upgraded because they were so old they were a fire hazard, and fire alarms installed. The problem was, her house was a path house, and the electricians needed access to the walls. We had been helping her clear out for years because the house was a tripping hazard and she uses a walker, but it was still an overwhelming task, and we were SO TIRED. I found Clutter and Hoarding Pros in a Google Search and got an immediate response from Michelle. She was very consciencious about making sure we had my MIL's permission before even sending us a contract. She quoted a fair price and sent her crew out within a week. The crew showed up on time and worked all day. Michael - the crew leader - was great. Honest, thoughtful, took the time to make sure he understood what we wanted. Nothing was thrown away indiscriminately. Every box was opened and carefully examined and sorted. In barely four days, they cleared out a double-sized yard, back garage full of junk, a front garage full of junk, living room, dining room, hallway, three closets, and then removed carpets that were so old and smelly you wouldn't even believe it. They made at least eight full trailer and truck loads to the dump, and packed them to the gills each time so no money was wasted. They left us with a functional house that the electricians were able to work in, and we are now able to bring in painters. Where there was a cluttered dirt-green carpet, we uncovered gorgeous original wood floors. What had felt like a catacomb now feels like a light and bright, easy-to-tidy, safe and navigable home. The entire crew was so nice, and Michelle and Michael checked in with us regularly throughout the process. On the last day, they had 45 minutes left and had done everything we asked. Most companies would have knocked off early at that point. Not this one! They started asking, "We have 45 minutes left. What else would you like us to tackle in the time left?" They then cleaned out three closets and and took another load to the dump. In the process, they found so many lost family treasures and heirlooms. We also gained a closet that was previously blocked, a spare bedroom (because the living room was now roomy enough to be a living/dining room), a thriving bee colony in the back yard, a spacious back porch, and an outdoor covered patio. We have been recommending them to friends, neighbors, and family ever since. They started and finished on time, came in exactly on budget, and were professional and pleasant the entire time. They were also discrete - they showed up with unmarked trucks and left no mess. One note to future clients: make sure you ask in advance what your local dump charges for loads, and pay attention to how many loads go so there are no surprises at the end. read more

Our garage had become a nightmare after years of just throwing everything in there and trying to forget about it -- unpacked boxes from a previous move, old toys, clothes, sporting equipment and a build up of large boxes we accumulated from deliveries that we never broke down (amazon prime is a blessing and a curse). There was barely any room to move in there and there was certainly no room to park a car. After several failed attempts to motivate myself to clean it out, I decided to just call upon an expert and just get it done. Michelle and her assistant, Carmen, were amazing. Michelle showed up early in the morning (after her initial assessment about a week before) and got to work right away. A huge one ton trash bin was brought in and there was a flurry of activity. She explained that we'd work section by section and discard all the things we didn't want, put other items aside for donation, and have a pile of things we wanted to keep. Then we would organize the remaining things in our "keep" category, and put them with like items. Then the sweeping, cleaning and putting away of items. It turned out that after we got rid of everything we didn't want, there was actually tons of space and storage available. We didn't even need to purchase any additional shelving or storage systems. By the end of the day, our completely stuffed garage, without any room to walk, was completely decluttered and organized. Michelle mentioned that this was pretty much like a day off for her because she is usually in situations where there was just so much stuff -- and as the name of the company implies, a good deal of hoarding. For me, (though my husband may refute this) I was actually not a hoarder, I was just completely overwhelmed with the task of cleaning out my garage which lead to major anxiety and caused me to procrastinate for years. In one day, Michelle was able to come in and take care of it all. I was able to be involved every step of the way -- but that all depends on the client and what's comfortable for them. I knew I wanted to get rid of probably 75% of the stuff I had in my garage and she helped to facilitate that. She even took all of our items for donation and brought back a receipt. It felt incredible to finally let go of all that stuff and it also felt wonderful to know that other people would be benefitting from the things that were just collecting dust in our garage. If anyone is on the fence about doing something like this...I would highly recommend it. Yes, maybe someday you'll find the time, and yes, it may be less expensive to just hunker down one weekend or slowly over a couple weeks, sifting through things when you have the time...but do you really want to do that? Do you actually think you will? I know that this never became a priority for me until it got out of control and I wish I hadn't waited so long. I'm sure everyone has a story as to why or how their house ended up the way it did. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2014, and due to exhaustion from treatment and the disease itself, I was no longer able to take care of my house or put things away, or deal with much of anything really. I took responsibility for clearing out my parents' home in Pasadena, CA, to get it ready to put on the market. My mom and dad lived in the home for nearly 60 years, and both of them are masterful hoarders. I'm not sure there is a way to convey how densely packed the home, yard, and garage were with just about everything you could imagine. A wedding gown, books, magazines, records, take-out containers, old food, old mail, pots and pans and plates and glassware, furniture that had been forgotten, my old school papers, two pianos (yes!), two violins, a mandolin, a clarinet... i could go on and on. I hired Clutter and Hoarding Pros back in January 2022 to help clean out the hoarded house and garage of a loved one in the Los Angeles area. Cleaning (especially someone else's mess) is not something that many people do with a smile, but these guys did! Cleaning out a hoarded house of a loved one can also be an emotional experience for the family, and the crew was sensitive to that as well. They are experienced. They were great at finding the standard sentimental/important things (pictures, jewelry, etc.) They'll look for anything else that you put on a list. They were very efficient, and they finished the job in less time than they quoted. They even helped organizing after they were done. This is more than just junk removal! Word of advice: Because they work so fast, you also need to be very organized. Make sure that you have a detailed list of what you want them to look for (especially that sentimental but not-so-valuable stuff; really take time to think about everything). You won't have time to make decisions about everything while they are working--at least not if you do a standard clean-out. (They are willing to work with people one-on-one to declutter, but I think that they charge hourly for that, and it can get really expensive.) Just wanted to say that working with Michele and her team was a great experience. At first it was a little overwhelming to me to let a stranger come into the house to see my mess. My mess started about 7 years ago when my husband became ill. I pretty much let the house go. It got to the point that nothing more could go into the garage so it stayed in the house. (I don't mean bags of trash or food) it was just an accumulation of stuff new stuff and old stuff. Michele came in walked the house looked at the garage and said I think this will take 3 days to complete starting with a team of 5 including my daughter for the first day. They started arrive at 8a.m. and started in the garage,a 40 yard dumpster was put in the driveway and I was sitting in a chair directing what was a keep and what was to go. I thought there was no way that they are going to do this in 3 days. To my surprise the garage was cleaned and bins were labeled and put away. Michele set up a metal man to pick up steel and metal. The next day there was a team of 4 and it was time to take on the back room which I wanted it to be my craft and sewing room, it soon became just that in one day. Then it was down to a team of 3, and it was on to the bedrooms. Before I knew it they were done. All in 3 days. I have my garage back, a craft room and bedrooms that I can now leave the doors open. My project was not clutter/hoarding, but to prepare a house for sale. Michelle and her staff are very nice to work with and very efficient. They are well organized and have a very systematic approach for dealing with home property by sorting items for sale, donation and disposal, as well as providing pick up for donation and disposal. It is a shame that we can only give 5 stars because this company definitely deserves much more than that. We needed to empty out my parents' former residence to be able to sell the property. However, after a year and a half of anxiety and frustration because we just couldn't find the time to do it ourselves, we found Clutter and Hoarding Pros. They took care of it in less than two days. They went through the interior and exterior of the house with a fine toothed comb. They found some items that turned out to be memorabilia and put them aside for us. They emptied furniture and free standing appliances. They hauled away all the trash so we didn't even need to rent a dumpster. They take anything that can be donated to charities or other needy organizations for you. From beginning to end, Michelle, Michael and their crew members were compassionate, understanding and such hard workers. I moved into my house about a year and a half ago and never got it all unpacked before I had to have foot surgery that kept me on the couch for most of 6 months. You can't organize clutter and my place just got worse and worse until I just gave up. Then it really got bad! Enter Michelle and her assistant Jennifer. In three and a half days these wonderful women transformed my house and my separate 450 sq. ft quilting studio - both depressing messes - to the wonderful home I knew was under it all. Michelle is so upbeat, warm, friendly, non-judgmental and dives right into the mess. The moment I met her I knew I would be comfortable having her in my home that I was embarrassed to let anyone else see.
