Really nice design. Higher end Mexican food with a hip styling and nicely designed interior. OK, it's a bit loud - then again, it's Venice, it's supposed to be. Beautiful people, good food, there's even valet parking with classic old Broncos parked there (typically a good sign). That said, it's small, pricey, and crowded. In LA, there are other places to get great, authentic Mexican food without the crowds (albeit highly attractive) and the high prices. read more

Experience was great! It was a fusion of smoked style BBQ with Mexican food!! The pulled pork and the tri-tip were both really good! Also we got the fries, which didn't disappoint! The dipping sauce for the fries were great as was their house made BBQ sauce. read more

Cons or so-so: Not blown away by the food. The octopus was not very well cooked: some parts were overcooked while some others were clearly not cooked enough. The burger was okay. It was a regular burger, nothing outstanding. Plus: - BUT our waitress was really friendly and checked specifically on my meal (I asked for some modifications when ordering) to see if I was happy with it, which is rather uncommon and therefore even more appreciated. - We were a party of 5 and we all got our food at the same time: it's almost unbelievable nowadays! I assumed this was a restaurant owned by Robert Horry but I was incorrect. It is a Mexi-Cali BBQ restaurant owned by someone else. It doesn't matter who it is. There is no one more clutch than Big Shot Rob. If he's ever nearby, he should stop in and grab some food on the house. He practically trademarked* the term "clutch". I've been here a couple of times now. They have this beer on tap that I like, I think it's called Mayberry or something like that. It's an IPA. If there's anything on the beer menu that sounds like that, order it. If I completely made that name up, then, I don't know, order a Corona in a can and get out of here. The smoked meats are amazing. Not only is this place delicious but also holds a special place in my heart. After just a couple weeks in LA this was one of the places I ventured to on my own for a solo brunch at the bar. The bartender was so friendly and chatty and totally made my day. She helped give me some great suggestions (steak and eggs and a side of their grilled veg of the day). They make some of their own bbq sauces and all were super tasty. I loved the laid back ambiance. I came one other time for dinner and the patio is pretty crowded but another great experience. What can I say?!! This is a true gem that is easy to find. There octopus tacos are to die for and the ceviche was impeccable I decided to try this place out on taco Tuesday. Have to say the portions were perfect I also had a chance to try out their sangria which was very good they have a very unusual drink menu that I have every intent of sampling at one point. The service was perfect and very attentive waiters and then if the orders are mixed up considering it was sort of busy night everything was great. I disagree with the negative reviews. We were going to go to Baby Blues across the street but lo and behold, they closed early. So despite having just read a negative review, we headed across the street to Clutch. The women who were working welcomed us in even though it was close to closing time and made us feel welcome. The pulled pork was delicious, with little charred parts, the house salad was much more than just your standard mesclun mix and lame vinaigrette (roasted corn and caulifower were in it), and the collard greens had a surprising kick to them. Came here the other night on TUES. Did not have RSVP tho they do take them. It was packed and was worried we'd have a long wait but got in immediately. Sat at the bar. Our other choice was a communal table on the patio but we'd really be sitting with people and there were no extra chairs to "shield" us so we sat at the bar. A lot of the tables here are communal. It's a little loud, but a very fun, chill atmosphere. The happy hour menu is pretty good and you can get a solid meal just ordering from that We got mashed potatoes (good, but nothing spectacular), 4 tacos (my boyfriend), 2 tostadas (seafood), and smoked wings (for me), which are cooked earlier in the day and then FRIED when you order it. The wings were BANGIN' some of my fave wings after Akasha's. 3rd and 4th wings would be Hot Baked Wings and Wings Cafe. The tostadas were good. One of them was pretty spicy. Incredible food here made with love! I had the smoked tri tip taco style yesterday and it was incredible. Huge portion of tri tip slices separately and I put the taco together. The salads are so fresh and I always add shrimp which are huge and cooked with garlic. The branzino fish is flaky with crispy crust. I've heard the ribs are amazing but haven't tried them yet. My husband is vegetarian and they have a delicious veggie burger that they add a portabello mushroom to and he loves it. Patio is the best, I love the casual atmosphere. I came in from Tampa FL for a couple days on business, and happened to drop in at Clutch for a bite to eat after my day of business meetings. Holy shit! I don't want to write reviews on Yelp, I'm eating their Santa Maria Tri Tips, and for real this is one of the best meals I've ever had. Flavorful, spicy, super tender, and the biscuits were to die for. I sat the bar with Angela (the bartender), who was awesome jokes by the way. The tacos themselves are pretty tasty, but c'mon, a $5 taco?! In Venice?! I spent $20+ on four pinche tacos that were only marginally bigger your average street taco. I felt every Mexican I knew in the world mentally punch me in the junk for being such a moron. I could've/should've gone to Taco Love down the street for $1.95 tacos that were fairly comparable. I consider myself a pretty level headed and rational individual and feel I'm objective when it comes to food and price and service. With that said our entire experience tonight at Clutch was abysmal. Food: we ordered 3 mac n cheese orders w our entrees. One came out first and was too hot to eat. The second came out luke warm about 20 mins later. The third came out AFTER we asked for the check. The rib order consists of five small ribs. Way too small a portion for $18. I mean c'mon. The black beans did not have flavor. I was actually astonished that they could cook beans and eliminate any favor whatsoever. Sort of amazing. The pulled pork had zero flavor as well. Might as well been eating fatty flavorless tofu. The corn was undercooked. The seasoning was decent but undercooked. The culinary highlights were the French fries, guacamole and my PBR tallboy in a can. Service: sad. None of our four meals came out within even 10 mins of each other. The four separate individuals that delivered food were nice however. Price: ok, we know you just spent an arm and leg on your fancy backsplash and new decor and we know the rent is probably high but there is a M.A.S.S.I.V.E. disconnect between the egregiously high price points and the quality of service and quality of product. The receipt for success is fairly simple: offer a quality and consistent product at a reasonable price delivered with consistent and professional service. Tonight your product and service and price flat out sucked. When the 'meal' was over my wife insisted the four of us walk ACROSS THE STREET to Baby Blues BBQ for an order of ribs to salvage an otherwise horrible dining experience. We did. The ribs were amazing (like always) at about 40% of the cost. Tonight was our collective first visit to Clutch. It'll also be the last. If anything it makes for a half way decent story about how your BBQ was so bad and so overpriced that we walked across the street after the check to get the job done right at Baby Blues. Not so good review for this Oscar's Cerveteca "branch" I hope it is useful to some extend as they are in a soft open period and I guess they are testing out. We got the Happy hour menu, as you see in the pic. It says: Carne Asada tacos ... $6 Well the plural is totally misleading... as you get ONE taco for $6 dollars. and to round it up is a HAPPY HOUR menu. It has been the most expensive taco of our lives. And it was a ok taco, la Isla taco track makes them equal or even better and for $2.5 Even in La Esquina prime Soho in NY are cheaper, and it is one of the most expensive places in NY. I wish I've made a photo of the check but was 7 tacos one hamburger and a couple of beers $120 without tip. 7 tacos = 50$ with the tip. I understand it is a soft open period, and they are trying, but I don't wan to be anyone's guinea pig to test how much money the can make pushing expensive to its limits. I have no problem paying money for anything that is worth it. But 1 carne asada taco is not worth $6, I actually believe that we have all been to some extent taken for a ride. oh! the 7 tacos took nearly 30min. And one beer came even after the tacos... Hope this review is somehow useful for Clutch to asses their future menus. read more

Newest trendy place on Lincoln Blvd. Walking into the place reminded me of sitting around the campfire. The waft of smoky smell from the kitchen made my very hungry and I was ready to try this place out. We were seated immediately and greeted by a friendly waitress. I ordered a ginger beer, which was a treat because you don't often find ginger beer at restaurants. I ordered the tri tip and my parents ordered the burger. It took about 25 mins for the food to come out. Everything in the food has a hint of spice to it. If you are sensitive to spice, I wouldn't come here. My mom wasn't able to eat most of her food as it was too spicy for her. The tri tip was nicely cooked and the mac n cheese was very tasty. The orange bitter sauce was a great compliment to the meat. Overall the food was pretty good, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The atmosphere was fun and the service was great. read more

Oscar is expanding his presence in Venice by adding Clutch a short walk from his Cerveteca on Rose. They are currently in a soft open period serving tacos, mexi-fries (de San Diego), and nachos alongside beer and wine. They are set up to eventually smoke and grill some serious meats with a tower of wood in the parking lot aside a serious looking smoker. They must be burning wood on the plancha as I smelled comforting fireplace/campfire smoke in my clothes when I got home. They have three beers on tap - El Segundo Mayberry IPA, Stone IPA, and Stone Arrogant Bastard. They have about 12 beers in cans and the assortment represents some renowned micro breweries as well as some household names like Heineken and PBR. We ordered two different tacos: one carne asada and one pollo. The calamari tacos had sold out for the day. The tacos had much flavor, but what really got our salivary glands juicing were the mexi fries. Classic California ambivalence to in door or outdoor seating. One bar table bridges this choice. What a find! I've driven past this place so many times on Lincoln while on the way to Venice/Marina Del Rey from Santa Monica. It always seems to have a good amount of people eating and drinking on the patio so clearly it has loyal patrons but yesterday the smell of smoke and meat was too overpowering and I had to pull in for lunch. I was debating being boring and just getting a burger but Im glad my waiter steered me in the direction of the Crispy Dry Rub Pork Ribs (Half Rack). I personally prefer a dry rub over a heavily sauced rib so these were perfect. The table side sauces couldn't have mixed better. One slightly spicy bbq sauce and one with more of a citrus kick but both together taste amazing especially on the dry rub. As I was about to leave I noticed an actor from one of my favorite TV shows. I lived in LA my whole life, so I know the rules. You aren't supposed to bother actors when they are eating but this is one of my favorite shows so I just had to wish him good luck on the upcoming season. Come to find out that he is the owner. He and his wife Nicole couldn't have been nicer and made me feel much better for intruding on their lunch. He also told me to try the Smoked Wings and Mac n Cheese next time. You can bank on that! Had my first experience at Clutch last night and was not disappointed! I tried the Mexi fries and the incredible salad, both were exactly as i hoped. Filled with unique and bright flavor combinations, the food was on point. My only reason for not giving 5 stars, the set up at the seating area was a bit odd. There's a tall metal shelf which I assume is meant to hold drinks & food but my friend and I found it cumbersome and took away from the visual aspect of eating that we both enjoy. It also felt like we were talking over a wall. Will be back to explore the tacos and other food as they expand but hopefully hey curate a bit more open and friend-friendly eating ambiance! read more
