I went on a Saturday during the soft opening period. First, I love the indoor/outdoor seating. Its perfect for the wonderful weather we have in So Cal. Second, their beer and wine selection is above average. I like that they serve local beer, Santa Monica Brew Works. Third, the food was really good. I had the veggie tacos and split the nachos with my husband. He had the carne asada and chicken tacos with no complaints. The jalapeño salsa is spicy and totally delicious. I'm addicted I've had everything a loved everything Except the oysters, they were super gritty. That was probly an anomaly. They only have beer/wine but it pairs well with all the meats I had a great rosé and last weekend I tried the agua fresca cocktail. It was delicious. I really appreciate the dog friendly patio. I love Clutch! I had great experiences at this new and cool Venice beach spot. I tried it three times during my last trip to LA, twice for diner, once for lunch. The atmosphere is great, both indoor and outdoor. Inside, the wood tables, classy bar where you can witness the fire grill create a very pleasant, friendly and warm atmosphere. Friendly though sophisticated and stylish. There's a giant screen also, for sport lovers. So it's as cool as a sport bar, but a very chic one with a really nice decoration and furniture. In addition to the great ambience, the employees are super nice and the food is awesome! Got to try the calamari taco, amazing tasty oysters, the rotisserie chicken, mexi-fries and spicy mayo, guacamole, and my little favorite, the mac and cheese. Yes as a Frenchy, I guess it's in my genes to prefer dishes including cheese...And Clutch's mac and cheese is so far the best I ever tried. In the dessert section, the tres leches cake stole my heart. Served with whipped cream and strawberry...Amazing. Cocktails and wine are awesome too. Margarita and Manmosa were very tasty. I also enjoyed once a delicious alcohol free lime/strawberry/pineaple coktail thought I don't remember the name of it. Clutch is one of my favorite new spot in Venice and I'm looking forward to my next trip to LA so I can enjoy it again! read more

This was my first time having Mexican BBQ and I will definitely keep coming back. We sat on the heated patio (which wasn't that heated) but the area is open and doesn't make you feel too cramped. The ambiance was very nice and the service matched. We got the Tri Tip, Dry Rub Pork Ribs, and 10Hr pulled pork and it was absolutely amazing. I value food BBQ especially being from NC. Our sides were the corn, fried fries, and veggies which were all okay. Overall I'll definitely be back and bring friends. read more

I really enjoy clutch for an easy, low key dinner. It gets crowded on weekends, so make sure to make a Rez. I usually get the guac, which is awesome, and you can get it with jicama and carrots instead of chips if you'd like. I also get the veggie tacos or veggie enchilada. Both are superb. They are great with requests. The collard greens are my favorite side! I give them a 4/5 because they don't have hard alcohol and it can be a bit loud. But overall, a pleasant experience! read more

We brought a good friend for him birthday last night! As always it was amazing. Didn't bring the dog but love the fact that you can have dogs on the patio. We had an incredible wait staff. So nice because they are consistently nice and helpful there!!! We had chips and guacamole .... Great! Stuffed Padilla chili...... Good. Hamburger and fries amazing! BBQ pork ribs.... out of this world and half chicken ..... Un effing real!!!! Chocolate cake for birthday dessert so delish and of course a bottle of amazing Chardonnay that we can't remember the name of. And I have Not Your Fathers Root Beer. I don't think I've ever had anything bad here. It took them about 6 months to figure out their menu, but it seems pretty complete now. This place has the same owners as Cerveteca (another spot I would highly recommend). All of their smoked meats are delectable, flavorful, and moist. I am a huge fan of baby blues across the street but find myself choosing this place 95% of the time. I personally feel Clutch has better Mac & Cheese. They just started serving brunch on the weekends with a completely different menu, I recommend the skillet. I 'discovered' Clutch quite frankly during lock-downs after driving by for work, and thank Goodness I did!! :) Kristine, the Bartender, is fantastic as well as the entire staff! This used to be a regular happy hour (and beyond) place for us but our last visit was so bad. We were there for a good amount of time and purchased plenty of drinks and food and had at least 4 different people wait on us in that time. When it came time to get the bill things weren't quite right. When we questioned one line of the bill it disappeared for a good 45 minutes before the manager on duty told us the bill was right and we were wrong. Rather than working with us and hearing us out and not giving a shit that we regularly visit and spend a lot of money there she continued to argue until we just paid to get out. Point being we won't be going back. Also if you're looking for a Taco Tuesday place, don't be fooled. They do some weird Tiki Taco Tuesday thing which isn't great, they are tiny and not cheap. This is honestly one of my FAVORITE restaurants, if not my all time favorite. The best atmosphere and food - it's always my go to for any occasion. The octopus used to be hit and miss but as of recent has been consistently perfect. The veggie and chicken tacos are also some favorites. I'm not a red meat eater and love when I come with people who are, we both can be satisfied without feeling like either of us compromised. Extremely slow service. It took a half hour from when we were seated to when someone came to take our order. The place was fairly busy at the time, but far from full. Pretty nice if generic decor, nice Western look with all the wooden furniture. The food was just okay in my opinion. My friend got the burger and said it was good. I got some kind of breakfast skillet and didn't like how all of the stuff in it was mixed together, as some of the flavors clashed. That might just be my personal taste though. Notably, we didn't try the barbecue which is their signature. Unfortunately their only BBQ sampler options are around $60, which presumably (hopefully) means they're enough for 3-4 people. Might go again but I wasn't that impressed, mainly due to the service. read more

Winner ! I live a few blocks away and love bbq so I eat at clutch and baby blues often. Clutch used to be a little behind Blues both serving up acceptable but not great barbecue. I gave the edge to baby blues. The last 2 times I are at blues the meat was a little skimpy and dry, not awful but worse than before. Tonight was the first time I had clutch in awhile. I had the dry rub ribs and they were dynamite. Better than anything either restaurant had served me before. They were meatier and juicer by far this meal. I'm hoping for and looking forward to a repeat next week. Keep it up! -Update * I've come back twice since the original review and I can't be more happy with the baby back ribs. The meat was tender and delicious. The prices are good. We got the sampler and loved everything in it. They were out of sausage a subbed for smoked wings. No complaints. We got collard greens, Brussels and sweet potatoes. They were all yummy. We got two spicy margs and a regular marg. They were good flavor and strength. The service was fast and nice. The 3 of us ordered the tri-tip & pulled pork BBQ plates that came with jalapeño cheddar biscuits, a side order of maple bourbon veggies & a side order of sweet potato fries. The meat dishes were flavorful & cooked to perfection, although I have to say the pulled pork was my favorite. The 2 BBQ sides were different from each other, but yummy. The veggies had just the right amount of maple flavor & the fries were crispy on the outside, but tender on the inside - like I like :-) The staff was friendly & everyone wore their masks. In addition to the 3-4 tables in the feint, they had about 5 more high tops out in the far back. Anyway, the margaritas were pretty good (but maybe not real tequila? I see they only have beer and wine) and the shrimp Tacos I had were as good as I've ever had. Nothing fancy, just some nicely marinated and grilled shrimp in a larger-than-street-taco-size-tortilla for like $4. Drinks were reasonable too, I think just $8. We've eaten here at the restaurant 4 times and got delivery from a 3rd party several times. Each time we ordered the chicken each time the chicken was moist and hot. Today got the same thing. The chicken was dry and literally ice cold. All that was eaten was a bite in each leg and a little of the breast. We told the server who then brought a female manager who was nice but clearly could care less. All we got was I'm sorry and her smiling. No offer to give a new chicken. No offer to remove the chicken from the bill instead they charged us the $20 for the half chicken and took 10% off as a "good neighbor" the money aspect has nothing to do with it. We can afford it. But it's the principle and lack of giving a shit. They did eventually offer to heat the dry chicken we clearly didn't want and already are subjected to cold dry meat why do we want it even drier. They also didn't ask if we wanted it they took it 2 minutes after the manager walked away and threw it out. (We didn't want it we wanted a moist hot one so whatever. But at least ask. Wtf!?!) So yeah saying sorry your chicken is dry and cold and walking away now has made us not want to ever come back. And honestly it's because of lack of customer service and complete disregard. While I'm at it. The corn is not impressive and lacking in flavor. I've never said anything but while I'm giving a review my advice is to spruce it up maybe make it more like an elote. Something. It's tasteless and it shouldn't be. As a business owner I employ staff that cares about customer service and repeat clientele. Apparently that's not a value here. read more

The only reason I'm not giving this five stars is the owners haven't quite figured out what the heck they are doing and I feel nickeled and dimed to death!! One owner already left and the second has revamped menu several times removing my second favorite dish, shrimp poblano! Today they USED to include Two homemade flour tortillas with the ribs. Then they cut it to one and actually charged me when I asked why there weren't two. They brought it and charged me. Today there were NO TORTILLAS!! The waiter said people threw them away so that's why they stopped!! HELLO? A shame as they are excellent but how about asking customers if they would like one then including it at no cost instead of charging me for something that used to be free?? They certainly didn't drop the price of the ribs. All things here are made fresh and from scratch. From cocktails and fresh fruit water and salad dressings, to the fresh tangy rubs for their ribs (my favorite dish). They have a smoker outside with almond, mesquite, and several other types of wood. Music is great, hip and fun. Indoor outdoor seating but if it's cold outside, bring a jacket. Tacos are great, salsas, fresh. Really, if they could just get their menu down, bring back the shrimp poblano and offer tortillas on request it would be a perfect five stars! It's so good, in fact, that I've brought at least 20 people to this place! I DONT DO THAT AT ANY RESTAURANT in town!!
