BUCK BUCK BUCKAAAAAAW!!!!!! I try to be a nice person, and rarely will I be so rude as to call out a fellow yelper on a point where I think they are just wrong (everyone has opinions!). But to the yelper who complained that this place doesn't serve beef or veggie options? Really? It is a chicken shop, not The Cheesecake Factory or Cafe Rouge. It isn't out to please everyone, it is out to please those who seek chicken. If you don't want chicken, don't come here. Full stop. If you DO want chicken (and a place that takes pride in serving up 'happy', ethically-sourced birds), definitely come here. Now. There are plenty of upscale grilled chicken spots in London these days, but very few focus on fried chicken, which this place does. And it does so pretty dang well. Sure, the chicken was great (though perhaps not as moist on the thicker parts of the breast as some places I've had in the States). But really, what made this place so great, in addition to overall well-cooked chicken were the sauces and sides. Excellent chips, tasty, crunchy coleslaw (and not too mayo-y), delectable gravy, lick-your-plate-good garlic/truffle aioli, nice chilli chutney.... the soy honey sauce on the wings I seriously wanted to pick up and drink. Both the soy chilli sauce and buttermilk fried preparations of the chicken were good. The lemon parmesan tenders were a bit drier, but still really good (and that aioli!!)... and the wings were excellent (oh, that soy honey sauce!)... Cute, tiny space with stylish decor and lovely dish ware. Plus they took my booking over twitter, always a plus (especially when Chicks on Fire, another chicken place, couldn't be bothered to update their hours on their own damn webpage and we showed up recently and they were closed). So I always appreciate it when a business shows they want my business on the interwebs. I'm sure I'll be back a lot when my waistline permits (or Rob H. begs).

    Juicy kara-age #1, wowwww !

Fried chicken blah blah, mana from heaven blah blah...if this is the first time you've read one of my fried chicken reviews, apologies, but I can't open every single fried chicken review with the same rhetoric. In short, I consider my fried chicken quest to be of a similar scope to Ocarina of Time because I'm overly dramatic like that. I've been pretty blessed on my quest in the last couple of months (definitely not the Water Temple) with places such as The Devonshire Arms, the K-style Jubo, and the reopened Rita's all serving very good chicken. However, Clutch. Yes, that is deliberate verb omission. To sum up Clutch in one word: fcoafoahfgiseduhgisud. I reckon this is probably the sort of review that I'll look back on in a couple of months and wonder what the hell I was thinking - to be honest, I'm probably still drunk on chicken (or high if they've been sprinkling crack into their batter. They almost definitely haven't, but it is exceptionally moreish. Clutch employees, if you're reading this, it's not libel, it's a compliment). If you're smart, you'll have skipped my ramblings above: the tl;dr is that Clutch is a chicken shop. The space itself is pretty small with room for about 20-30 diners. The decor seems to sit halfway between modern gastropub and upmarket bistro (very white, bulbs with giant filaments) and is pretty cosy (especially before they figured out how to stop the heating unit blasting hot air at our necks). There's also a bar attached to the back, and Clutch offer a small selection of cocktails in case you feel a bit too grubby about eating fried chicken and want to counterbalance that with something. Between 5 of us, we had: - 1 bucket of peppery buttermilk fried chicken (between 6-8 pieces usually) - 1/2 bucket of soy and garlic fried chicken - 1 load of parmesan and lemon tenders - 1 bucket of soy wing tips - 2 portions of chips - GRAVY - Slaw To be honest, the best way to review this would be to post a link to me eating. The 'standard' fried chicken was excellent and hands down the best of its ilk that I've tried in London. Thin, crunchy, tasty batter encasing juicy, flavourful happy chicken. No sogginess, no insipid chicken, minimal greasiness. Some people may argue that the batter could do with a little more seasoning, but for me this was perfect. Oh, and the gravy. The gravy is exceptional - intensely flavoured and full of pepper. "Do you mind if I drink the gravy?" "No Rob, go ahead." Music to my ears. Whilst for me the buttermilk chicken was undoubtedly the star of the show, the other dishes didn't disappoint either - the parmesan chicken tenders are pretty good (they were a tiny bit on the dry side, but only marginally so), but the accompanying garlic-truffle aioli is just awesome. The soy garlic sauce items were great too - I like the style, although less so than regular fried chicken as it tends to be less crunchy - but they've got the sauce just right. Again, this was perfectly cooked, so very enjoyable. The bill came out to around £15 per head - whilst not cheap for fried chicken, this was in the same ballpark as the fried chicken from The Devonshire Arms; whilst I could happily have eaten another half bucket, I can chalk that up to a case of me being disgusting rather than me being still hungry. Whilst my fried chicken quest may never truly end, Clutch have acquitted themselves exceptionally well and are quite simply the best in the business in London. Alongside Jubo and Rita's, East London's revival of this noble and sacred art form is a serious hazard to my health and wallet. And I love it.

A tasty brunch in the sunshine (and frequent gusts of wind which kept things interesting!) on their astro-turfed front terrace. It's a bit of a trek to get here but you can't help but smile when you spot the bright yellow building on an otherwise fairly drab street. My friend led me astray by ordering a cocktail, so I followed suit with a mimosa (yes this is possibly why I'm friends with her). I could have eaten anything from the compact brunch menu so ended up just ordering the first thing - chicken and waffles! No regrets from me, especially after tasting the bourbon syrup. My friend ordered the sweet and spicy wings with a side of avocado (she likes being unexpected) and was initially daunted when they brought out the 12 wings as she'd forgotten to specify 6. She somehow found room to polish them all off though! Our waiters were chatty and spoke to us like we were their mates which was strangely endearing here. It was easy to while away a leisurely couple of hours nattering away without feeling like we were being rushed. Prices were hipsterly reasonable too!

I feel bad giving this place a low review... and I really really wanted to LOVE it... but I left feeling just blah Pro: -really chic funky place -hidden and would have never guessed such a funky place was down this side street -wonderful interior design and concept con: -overpriced -my husband had the banana bread with turkey beacon and guacamole- both of us did not like it and he normally loves everything... he could barely eat it and did not finish it. -I had the sour & spicy chicken wings £12 with a sickling amount of sauce -We ended up paying over £40 for two small unsatisfying dishes and a lemonade and a beer... felt that it was a bit steep for what it was. if it was drop dead amazing I would not have any issue paying that. -They even charge for sauce (homemade ketchup)! I asked for sauce but was not told it was a charge nor did I expect to pay for ketchup nor did I know that it was going to come out homemade... it was interesting, more like a salsa.. but not bad tasting either

    yummy!!

I went there on a Sunday to get some brunch. I had really high expectations as the place seems so praiseworthy based on what people had said on Yelp. A friend of mine even had recommended me the place. So let's go!!! I have to say I fell in love with the food. They are meant to be chicken specialists. And they really are. A stone thrown away from the busy flower market, this nice little cafe has much to offer. A lovely terrace, a cool restaurant room where you will end up sharing your table with other people (which is fun if you happen to sit next to orange-ish Brit cliches with fake eyelashes... :) ). And there is a also a bar which was not open though. Their latte was rather good - it is just a latte after all. Nothing much to brag about really. I also had the Clutch Mac Muffin. A yummy double chicken burger with a bit of salad with it. It was really tasty. But bloody hell, it was small... For a tall guy like me I need at least 2 of them. And well that's £10 for this... For that reason I can't really give 5 stars. I had to get something else to eat during the afternoon... My friend went for the Sunday roast - I'll leave you guessing which meat... - and it was pretty good apparently. I would recommend you to go if you are not starving but want something light and good. And then you can pop to the market if you are ready to be surrounded by crowds...

As a non-chicken eater I have to rely upon my bf's comments that 'this is the best chicken shop in London' however as a veggie, they do good halloumi and killer drinks. The fact that it's run by Irish owners means that you come across nice surprises like Potín being on the cocktail menu! Really cool place for evening drinks and dancing late.

When I first saw the Yelp entry for buffalo wings within walking distance of my office, I…read moreimmediately began to obsess about when I could make the trip over. First time we went to scout out the location, it was closed because it was cold, miserable and raining (ah, the English springtime!) As soon as the weather started clearing up, I dragged my colleague (who incidentally is one of the world's biggest Nandos fans and has eaten at something like 2 dozen of its branches) back over to Brick Lane. We both had the lunch special special with the hot (I think it's 'woof woof' sauce). It is certainly hot sauce, I have a relatively high tolerance for spice but made pretty slow progress (great for clearing out the sinuses btw although between that and all the orange sauce over your face I'd recommend taking about half the kitchen roll provided). The lunch special includes 6 wings, onion rings or fries, blue cheese sauce, a few little sticks of celery and a drink. My colleague love the fries, the onion rings were standard (and by standard I mean delicious, as they are one of my favourite foodstuffs). Drink options are awesome - I had cream soda which comes in a pink can which I drank from a pink straw. I looked extremely serious and prepared for my afternoon's work arriving back in the office still drinking it. Aside from being hot, the woof woof sauce was a little sour for my tastes, I would get it again but would add some salt. I have since tried the original which is fine but not particularly exciting. I also sampled the next level up which immediately burnt a hole through my tongue down to my stomach. Colleague experienced same sensation (and he is a Nandos extra hot kind of guy). This really raises the stake on the 'roulette' option - 7 original wings plus one 'viper' - the fourth and most extreme level. Terrifying. Has to be done.

Buffalo Wings... in London?…read more Yup, you heard it right. The folks at The Orange Buffalo are cooking up some absolutely delicious wings from the heart of the Turman Brewery just off Brick Lane. Nick, the man behind the counter, hails from England but has spent time in both Upstate New York and in San Francisco. Thinking about wings and food culture in general, he couldn't have picked two better spots to learn all about the secrets of the Buffalo wing and about the importance of good ingredients. The sauces are home made and the chicken is free range, what more could one want really? This little stall is absolutely worth checking out, and even on a Friday at lunchtime there was a queue. So go, eat wings, be happy.

Of the places not from Western New York at the festival, StickyWings stuck out as having the best-tasting wings. Vacationing in London years later, I had to pay them a visit. StickyWings is a takeaway-style joint on a side street, with a dozen or so tables occupying a narrow dining room. After ordering at the counter, I took a seat and waited for the wings to come. The amount of time my food took to arrive was just enough to convince me that the wings were cooked fresh and, indeed, they tasted that way. Crispy, saucy goodness. While I wish they had a spicier "Buffalo" option, these are hands-down the best Buffalo-style wings I have had outside of New York. My ONLY complaint is that the sauce is a little off. Tastes a tad buttery for a traditional Buffalo "medium", but other than that, the wings were perfect. Cost was reasonable, too, and service was friendly. I lived in Buffalo, New York for 8 years, surrounded by the best wing joints in the world. StickyWings is the real deal. THIS REVIEW IS OF THE QUALITY OF FOOD ALONE!!! I am actually from western NY, within 50 miles of where Buffalo Wings became famous and every western New Yorker knows a good chicken wing and I have only ever found one place in the UK with good enough wings for them to remind me if home... But now I've found another!!! I've been seeing this business prepare for opening over the last few wings and when I realised it was an American Wing Restaurant I was so excited as it's right on my way home! The chicken wings were the right size, had the right crisp and succulence and the buffalo bliss sauce was reminiscent of the Anchor Bar(birthplace of buffalo wings) itself. I was given 5 wings and wedges in what I believe will be one of the menu items. It didn't come with Bleu cheese as standard (which might have been for the pre-opening event..idk) , but I didn't ask for it so I will make sure to do so next time. It did come with coleslaw, though...which I didn't really see the point of, lol! Oh yeah hey have burgers and per menu items, I'll unlikely be trying these soon as wings are now so close to home. Anyway, the opening is on the 5th of November and there is 20% off so I will most certainly be there to get some good wings again.., eventually when they are fully trained, I will update this on service too!

If you're not too familiar with Southern American cuisine, fried chicken & waffles has been all the rage since, like, forever. Sadly, though, the taste of the chicken itself isn't really any better than you would find at any of the local fried chicken chain restaurants you'll find scattered throughout London. The thing to get your first time here are either the wings for starters and at least one fried chicken & waffle dish. My suggestion: Go with The Original Waffle Burger- A hefty portion of 2 100% free range chicken thighs, bacon, American cheese, house BBQ, mayo, hot sauce, & Canadian maple syrup, miraculously wedged between 2 freshly griddled waffles. At £14, it is a bit of a splurge, but believe me, if you like to eat, this is well worth it. It's actually quite a good promotion, starting at 5 PM with no end time, so you don't feel pressure to get there early. I arrived close to 7 PM and the place was still relatively empty, and we had our choice of a few tables and did not encounter a queue at the bar. I can imagine that when busy, it could be a pretty hard place to get served (I guess by virtue of being a pop-up, the venue may not have been intended for a bar). Beer & Buns is on the first floor above K10, a Japanese restaurant in a modern glass building near Broadgate Circle that is totally deserted in the evening. Once upstairs, it's pretty dark as the windows are mostly blacked out, but there are some long tables (like a beer hall), some round barrels that act as high tables, a foosball table, a pinball machine, and some stools against a window ledge that get the only bit of sunlight. For something that calls itself an izakaya, I thought the décor would be more authentic. In practice, it is as authentic as Ippudo, which is to say, not at all. We were offered samples of the cocktails (a margarita and a strawberry daiquiri), of which I definitely preferred the daiquiri; the margarita was far too sour. Instead, I went with Asahi draft beer, which was £4.50 for a pint - not cheap so was rather glad for the 2-for-1 offer! That's the only beer that you can get with the offer, as the other beers were all bottled, so you don't actually get much of a selection. I tried all 4 types of the buns, which are 2 for £6.50. The chicken karaage is marked as the special, but I thought the pork belly was much better. The aubergine katsu is quite unique as well. I had a bite of my friend's sweet & spicy chicken wings, which I thought were ok, but nothing remarkable. Overall, I think this is a cool concept, but could have been executed much better. The hirata buns are one of the hottest things in London right now, and there are a handful of street food stalls, the veteran Flesh & Buns, and the new restaurant Bao that do them. After I had the beer and tried the buns, it got a bit boring. I wouldn't be in any hurry to come again.

I tried the Negroni and another tequila-based cocktail (sadly I can't remember the name), and both were phenomenal. Shared plates are definitely the way to go at Dishoom. We ordered the gunpowder potatoes (incredible), an appetizer with potatoes and pineapple (not my favorite; the pineapple threw me off), monkfish curry (amazing), and chicken curry. It was a lot of food for just two of us, but I couldn't stop eating. I seriously wanted to bottle up that sauce! The service was surprisingly impeccable, especially considering how busy they were. We ended up spending about £110 for an incredible dinner, and we nearly couldn't finish everything. Lastly, the ambiance! Inspired by Iranian cafes in India, the atmosphere at Dishoom is eclectic. I loved the dim lighting, unique decor, and the lively pace of the restaurant. Just go!
