It was super chill around this time and this was probably because they just opened their doors for happy hour and the live band. We were able to get a booth seat right near the stage where the local band (Ramonta and friends) were performing. Oh how I could forget...the entry fee... FREE!!!! Let's see...not too crowded, FREE entry, FREE buffet, happy hour drink specials...oh yeah, I am loving this so far. I am not sure how long this club/lounge has been in existence, but I was completely unaware of its existence prior to coming. I can remember driving by some years ago and noticed this was a restaurant once before. But now, they have made great use of the space. So you walk up to the door...security is waiting to check ID and your purse ladies. Not sure if it ever gets slammed, but the two times I have visited there has been no wait in line. So I visited once before on a Wednesday night about 10 pm and again a few Fridays ago just as the club opened. Nevertheless, we walked in and straight ahead is the bar and kitchen area. There is seating located on the right and left side of the club. The right side, I would consider your low key area, so if you want to check out things sit here. But over here, you can't see the dance floor area. Therefore, you may need to get up and roam to check out the whole scene. The left side, where the stage is located, you have about 10 booth seats. These booths also surround the dance floor that's a pretty decent size. You can also view the parking lot from this area...window seating if you will. The DJ booth is located over here too. You can also catch the game on one of their many TVs in the spot. Now if this spot fills quickly it will be standing room only and that could be an issue because it's not super spacey, but just enough space to chill, eat, and dance. Capacity maybe about 150 comfortably. Oh the food...it was tasty. Before I found out they offered a happy hour buffet, we had already ordered food. But it was crazy because about 5 items I ordered previously were unavailable...huh??? What do you mean, you don't have ANYTHING I am ordering...sheeeeesh!!! But they had plenty of fried chicken though - aye yi yi!!! Oh well, we ordered fried drumettes and fried shrimp. So yeah I mentioned how not busy they were and how they JUST OPENED the doors on that Friday evening...so the kitchen clearly wasn't ready to serve. It took 45 mins to get a order of two wing baskets and a basket of shrimp...fries sold separately. Whew... despite the severe wait time, I look forward to returning. I can't knock a club for not having food ready. Now if it was restaurant and nothing more, oh we would have left E-ME-JET-LEE!!!! I am not a club hopper at this age, but back in the day.......owwww, this would have been my lay low spot!!! Not too turnt* not too live, but just enough vibe and drink and get your two step on and leave feeling niiiiice! So yeah, a nice, chill spot with live music and a poppin DJ, I'm with it every now and then. As a result, this place foots the bill - SOLID. Last week for date night we attended a Candlelight Concert of the Nutcracker and old Christmas carols. It was beautifully decorated and all aglow with thousands of candles. I liked the side bar area - the old-world feel (think opera house 1890s) and the various opportunity for set-up and party hosting as well as the stage for the performers. Parking is super easy nearby in one of the numerous downtown garages. No complaints from me! Charming.

From a Beautiful Historic Theater to an Absolute Nightmare -- Never Again!…read more My husband and I are no longer in our twenties, and when we go out, we prefer places where we can enjoy ourselves comfortably rather than spend the entire evening standing. That is exactly why I chose Granby Theater for our Halloween celebration. We had attended a show there before, really enjoyed it, and considered it a beautiful, respectable venue where we could expect comfort and professionalism. Well, apparently, I was wrong. I certainly never imagined that at this stage of my life, I would find myself practically "fighting for a place in the sun" with two young women in their twenties just to watch a show we had paid for! Our group of five arrived early, purchased general admission tickets, and settled into one of the center balconies with approximately five or six seats. We spent the first couple of hours enjoying the atmosphere, dancing, having drinks, and looking forward to the advertised performance. Then two young women entered our balcony and positioned themselves directly at the railing, completely blocking our view of the stage and dance floor. Suddenly, instead of watching the show, all we could see were their backsides! When we asked them to move so we could see the performance, they refused, insisting that because it was not a VIP balcony, they had every right to stand there. I fully understand that this was a general admission area, not reserved seating. If there had been available seats and they had asked to join us, we would have had absolutely no problem with that. But there were no empty seats. They simply walked in and stood directly in front of five seated guests, completely obstructing our view. In my opinion, this was precisely the moment when venue management should have stepped in and found a reasonable solution. Instead, when some members of our group stood up beside them just to see the performance, these women immediately occupied their seats. Members of our group repeatedly approached staff and management for assistance, but the response was either inaction or unreasonable, impractical solutions. What could have been resolved in minutes escalated into an ugly confrontation, while the women continued filming and provoking members of our group. Eventually, an incident occurred that was recorded on their phones and described as an alleged assault by a member of our group. I am not a lawyer and will not make legal judgments about what occurred. However, I believe the entire confrontation could have been prevented through timely and professional intervention. Security ultimately removed everyone involved from the event. But the most shocking part came afterward. Outside the venue, a manager initially told three members of our group, including my husband and me, that we had done nothing wrong and were welcome to return. However, we had come together and had no desire to return after such an unpleasant experience. When we requested a refund, the manager refused and threatened to call the police, stating that we could all end up in jail because we were part of the same group. Seriously? Jail? I never imagined that an evening at a theater would end with me being lectured and threatened with jail as though I were some kind of street troublemaker! It would almost be funny if it weren't so disturbing. Granby Theater is a beautiful historic venue with so much potential. It should represent entertainment, culture, hospitality, and professionalism. Instead, we experienced poor crowd management, an escalating confrontation, and an appalling response from the person supposedly responsible for maintaining order. It is genuinely sad to see such a beautiful historic theater turn an evening of entertainment into something resembling a street brawl. Norfolk deserves better, and so do its visitors. None of us will ever return. What a disappointment.

The only way to get in is on special occasions so inquire within or on the Sly Fox website. The staff were so wonderful and kind really catering to our every need. We started with Infused water and mimosas. The Raspberry mimosa was sweet and bubbly with the perfect amount of raspberry sorbet. The food was beautifully displayed in a buffet style. Such a great variety. Fresh fruit of all kinds, french toast, waffles and chicken, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage , scrabbled eggs, quiche, house potatoes, deviled eggs, and a charcuterie board . On the sweet side they had mini cinnamon rolls, danish, brownies, cookies and cupcakes with the galentine theme. They had chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries with pretty pink food grade glitter. Plenty to choose from and plenty to eat. We loved it. In order to get into the speakeasy it is tickets only. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time either in person or over the phone. It is a cozy, comfy space to dine and have drinks in a relaxed classy beautifully decorated establishment. The interior design emanates speakeasy. Every detail of design was carefully curated with the utmost intention. Staff was fantastic. Even though it was a brunch buffet, staff were attentive, friendly and frequently checked on all tables to address any needs or questions. The lovely staff were genuinely happy to take photos for us without any prompting. The flow of the buffet was perfect, and the food presentation was delightfully charming! There was a photo back drop available and the decor was so festive, and classy yet simple. The decor wasn't over the top , it was just the right amount of decorations to add pizzazz and celebrate with festive spirit. We all had a very enjoyable time celebrating Galentine's day! It was a wonderful event in an equally wonderful space. The music was on point, as well as the volume level. It was loud enough to enjoy the music, yet low enough that you could hold a conversation without screaming to hear each other. It was very peaceful and even if you don't choose a booth, the tables on the opposite side of the bar do provide some privacy due to the small partitions. The variety of food offered was just right (not overwhelmingly too many options and not too little options) and the food was tasty. It was an excellent first impression that left me excited to await what other fun events they will hold in the future.

There's an open Dance Floor, a bar area and the club sells food also. When we arrived it was fairly early a little bit after 9 p.m. and it was maybe about 30 people inside. I guess we caught the tail end of their line dancing session. I would say maybe from 7 until 9 or it started at 6, I'm not sure of the start/open time, but I know that Friday night when we arrived they were line dancing. And I mean they had to have played maybe 10 songs and there was a line dance to like every song... I had no clue. But evidently, I guess one of the owners or one of the guys that works there (obviously) wears many hats. One minute he's greeting people at the door, checking id's, directing people to their party... and he then is on the Dance Floor leading the line dance crew. I was like okay, so he's a one man show!! It's close to 10 pm and this same guy was working the DJ area. I guess until the actual DJ arrived probably right at 10. I believe they offer a happy hour too. I'm not sure on the time you can check some of the photos I think the time frame that they have happy hour is up there. The drinks they were cool. For a beer and two well drinks it was under $20 so I think that was a reasonable price considering where we were and why we were there ...so no complaints there. The parking lot it's not as lit as it should be. However, it is located in a shopping area. So there is limited parking spaces. OVERALL, it was a good time! I can't say that I'll be going back there anytime soon. But this was only my second time that I've been here and both times have been just blah experiences. Different DJ's play different music rather it be oldies but goodies up-to-date music R&B and hip hop. From my understanding it's certain times during the year that this place can be packed. For instance, I want to say around Martin Luther King Jr birthday which is in January you can expect it to be to capacity. I can't say I'd suggest this club, but please go at your own risk. But like I said, I don't plan on going back anytime soon and the only reason I came this time was because of someone's birthday and I was invited to come. I'll have a good time regardless, but if you're looking for somewhere popular you may want to think again before stepping inside.
