Samson AKA Sosa & Ally were awesome. Stumbled in here after a long day, just to get a drink or two. Ended up staying a couple hours watching basketball and having chats with Sosa about anime. As I said about Hammerheads, there's nothing special about The Edge. It's a hallway with drinks and the same music you were just listening to on the radio (and as all the other bars on the Block). Another local favorite, again mostly during the off-season, it's sweatingly and smellingly overcrowded during the summer. Dancing? Not a chance. But still plenty of room to grind on some strangers and spill your drinks on many others, if that's your pleasure for the evening. Sitting? I came here on a Tuesday night, vacationing. Good music for a Tuesday. The bartenders were all really cool and even looked out for us. There's a fog machine, not too many people. people were in and out. The bouncer outside was telling us that Tuesday usually pick up but guessing from the wind it was kind of dead. My husband and I just stumbled upon the Edge while bar hopping after dinner at Repeal. We told the bartender it was his birthday and he gave us a complimentary shot. What drew us inside was the music! We are born and bred New Yorkers and the bar was bumping classic Jay-Z and Cam'ron. We couldn't resist. Today, I gave myself a challenge to review some of the bars at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. For one reason and one reason only, the people that work at those Gold Key kiosks are not your tour guide. I am. So, here's some cool trivia about The Edge and it's neighbor, Sandbar: these two bars are, actually, some of the oldest bars at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront that have maintained their name/theme. The Boxx used to be Chicho's (now located a tad closer to the North-end on Pacific), both Chemistry and Retro used to be something else (Hammerheads, I believe?). If you're a 20-something, visiting on a Bachelorette ("girls just wanna have fun"-type of trip) vacay ... This is probably going to be your spot. Hip-hop music, colorful shooters and fast-paced bartenders radiate throughout the floor. There is a "stage" of some sort that dons the back of the establishment near the bathrooms that girls that have drank one-too-many vodka cranberries can grind on ... If you're feelin' like some attention. This spot is a solid OK to me. Without the bartenders that work here, it would be incredibly forgettable. So, here goes: THE GOOD: -Bartenders here are really awesome. -If you're a regular, you get thrown a free shot here and there during happy hour. -Creative shooters (just say what color you want and they're on it). -Cheap drinks (for bingers-on-a-budget). THE BAD: -Quite a few fights happen here on a regular basis. -Once or twice, my tab got mixed up with someone else's. -The crowd can be a little rough. -Very tight, crammed space during Summer Saturday nights. THE UGLY: -Sometimes it smells like vomit. -Sometimes people get overserved because it's so packed and difficult to regulate how much alcohol each person is drinking. Ugh. The Edge is a college bar for college kids, and I am not a college kid. When I was younger I liked going to The Edge but now I realize I am just way too old to go to a place like this. It's dark and dingy inside and the bathrooms are usually pretty nasty. Usually I find the staff to be kind of stuck up and stuffy but they do seem to make the drinks pretty strong. They have a happy hour here during the week but the drinks are never expensive. In the middle of the summer this place gets so packed and hot that it's disgusting. It's no fun to go to a bar and get bumped into constantly. The whole scene here can be pretty skeezy. There are much better places to go down at the Oceanfront. read more

I went here a loooonnnnggggg tmie ago. Like 7 or 8 years and what i remember was you had to go with a group because there would always be some.cats trying to flex here amd wants to fight, the place was crowded and small amd it was always hot. I also remember that they played the latest music. The genre of music here is rap. I dont remember the cover charge amoint but i do know there is one and i dont think there was a dress code becasue i remember people wearing hats. Unless things have changed now read more

Service was decent, but my buddy order a jäger bomb and there was broken glass in the bottom of the drink. Luckily he didn't swallow it and alerted the waitress and was given a free shot. Minutes later a brawl broke out of about 5 or 6 people and it was contained quickly, but it could have been averted earlier because there was a lot of shouting and fowl gestures. Not to mention security failed to see if my friend was ok after the brawl because he was minding his own business and then the brawl consumed him and was under the fight. I have been going to the Edge for many many years. I always feel safe and welcome. The bartender i have known most of them forever and they aways welcome me and make sure that me and my friends are taken care of. I dont go as much as i used to be when i want to step out for happy hour or a night out i know I can always have a good time at the Block. The summer night are a little much at times but its expected. As a local the Edge is my go to for over 10 years. read more

I went to The Edge a couple a weeks ago and I had a blast! Great environment with friendly employees and an amazing music selection. The only thing I had a problem with the bar was the space. I felt really cramp there and I wish there were more areas to sit. Other then that I thought it was a great place for a college student like myself and I would definitely go back there. read more

The staff is cool however I used to come ALLLLL the time with my best friend last summer ! So I was in town and visited it completely changed ! It is now okay and my experience was ruined because the girl bartender (don't get me wrong she is pretty and makes good drinks) steals tips from you! I always get a Long Island and they are $10!!!! She charged my friend $15 when they paid with a card! So I said let me see the menu and it said drinks are $10 so I pointed to it on the menu and said I want a Long Island I paid with a card and she charged me $15 ! I said why is it $15 when she gave me my receipt she said next two drinks are on her .... like girl you just stole $5 from me I tip everywhere I go ! When she made my other friend a drink she paid with cash so she lied and said I'll charge you 10 and you can just tip me ! It's a lot less crowded people than last year because of new management but if you go here be aware of what they charge you because now they are charging extra for tips come guys y'all are better than that! read more

just moved to Virginia Beach recently and was told The Edge was a good place to go. We made plans for friday to check it out and at first look, lots of people outside and noticed a few other bars on the same block. We came in and saw that it was more of a mix crowd which I like. We sat at the bar ordered drinks and the bartenders were very nice. Drinks were good, a little stronger but good and price were actually reasonable. They also had a little stage in the back and some video games. By 11:30 the place was getting really busy. The music was really really good. He was playing all different hip hop reggae r&b top40 some new stuff and even songs I haven't heard in a while. People were dancing, singing everyone was really having a great time. The only thing is it got so packed it was hard to really move. So we decided to go check out the other bars but quickly saw they weren't as busy so went back had a few more drinks found a spot to dance behind the dj and had a ball. Other than the place being so packed my only other gripe would be the bathroom.. eww but I will be coming back. read more
