Side salad with crab meat & house dressing. Plus a Italian sandwich

The food was hot and pretty tasty! Unfortunately there was only one waitress working which impeded her from being very attentive. The ambiance is a bar that nicely decorated with car & high school memorabilia.

The service was top notch. Drinks were kept full. Several waitresses asked if we needed anything. Seating was very close not much room to move. Very cute inside. The restroom was very clean, nicely decorated. All patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a good time. Food was good and wholesome. I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. Salad was very good. Steak was ok. Nothing over the top. The atmosphere is what this place is about. Nice place to eat.

Very friendly place with nice energy and good food. I was surprised and pleased to see chicken livers (and gizzards) on the menu and happily ordered them. Crispy, light and delicious. I asked for a side of gravy which was the perfect sauce. I also ordered the asparagus which was perfectly prepared and buttery. VERY impressed with the wine selection for a bar in a small town. Even had a nice rosè! I will definitely come back when I'm in the area. My only complaint would be the utensils which were just a little bit too light weight and for some reason awkward to hold. Otherwise, great find.

I came here for a work trip and ordered some pulled pork nachos and the Wednesday brisket special with jalapeño mac n' cheese. Both items were well smoked and treated great. On my next trip back to Peru, I'll definitely stop by and try their pulled pork sandwich.

Excellent food and excellent service! I had the brisket with jalapeno Mac n cheese and my wife had the crab salad. We shared the fried green tomatoes app. (I recommend the boom boom dipping sauce) Everything was delicious and the staff and owner were extremely friendly. The owner even shared her pizza with us just so we could try it! Wife and I both loved it too! Oh, and before I run out of room here... Cleanest bathroom I've ever seen in a public bar/restaurant! Full bar too! Definitely recommend! Sorry I didn't take any pictures of our food.

This place is great! The service is awesome. The food is fantastic. The prices are right. Our grilled grouper was very flavorful. Sissy ordered a pizza and it was good. Nice pour on the wine. Love it when small town places like this can thrive. I come home often so can't wait to come back. Only downside is that it's pretty small so it gets crowded fast.

Warm, friendly atmosphere. They have Michelob Amberbock and even Sam Adams Octoberfest when in season. Food is very good.

Walking in, there was a homemade sign at the door warning that you will be exposed to secondhand smoke, and I could soon see why. I like that smoking was allowed, but Hard Times is in desperate need of a ventilation system. It was so smoky that you didn't really need to light up to get your nicotine fix. It was extremely crowded. Not a seat was left at the bar, but they had some old tables and chairs that were empty in the back room. They had pool tables near the center of the building, but it seemec too small and crowded to comfortably play in there. Players seemed to have to pause every time someone passed by. There was no table service as far as I could tell. We went to the bar and stood at a service station. It took a couple minutes to be acknowledged. They didn't have much on draft. I know Blue Moon and a cider were two of the few choices. The other two were domestics. The girl who was bartending offered to leave a tab open. We retrieved the bottles of beer we'd ordered and returned to our table. A DJ was setting up some equipment, but extremely loud music was already playing. It was hard to hold a conversation, and the array of music was an odd mixture of Bob Marley, classic rock, country, and pop and rap music. The back room contained a tacky claw machine and some odd and lude yet funny bathroom door signs. We didn't use the restrooms, but I imagine they are small, and judging by the rest of the place, dirty. We finished our beers and exited out the side door. Hard Times isn't the worst bar I've ever been in, but I'm not itching to go back. I love holes in the wall, but it was just a little too divey for me. I wouldn't say it was friendly or fun, even though I did enjoy the company of my friends. The positive note I can make is that their beer is cheap. I'm hoping there are better bars in Peru. I wouldn't go out of my way to return to Hard Times, but I might if I were invited again.

Allegedly, in 1933, Dillinger robbed the near by police station of guns and ammo. Hence the name...Dillinger's Bar & Grill. Dillinger's is a smaller but wide open restaurant. An inviting bar is centrally located. The wooden floors, ceilings and hand-hued beams are probably original to 1880's business structure. The facility is simple and sports a lot of Dillinger references like the table tops. I found the team here to be very friendly and willing to serve. The menu is fairly large with lots of Dillinger coded menu items to choose from. The prices were very reasonable with decent portion sizes (i.e. no highway robbery here lol). We started with the onion rings. They had a thick piece of onion and equally thick batter. The batter had a bit of a beer seasoning, slight oily taste and a moderately crunch. Really good tasting ring! The side salad was small with a nice mix of simple side ingredients - tomatoes, onions and cheese. My wife had the Wheelman wrap. She said it was loaded with tasty turkey and bacon flavors. She liked the fresh taste. The fries were thinner and crispy. I ordered the Silent Shot breaded tenderloin. It was very thick and juicy. The pork taste really came out nicely. The breading was thick like the onion rings - slight crunch and slightly oily. The sandwich came with all the usual toppings. The Cole slaw was also very tasty. The small slaw pieces were almost diced. The mayo base was slightly sweet with a hint of vinegar. It stuck to the slaw pieces without being soupy. Overall another interesting, out of the way place, with good drops and service... to dine and experience some Americana.

You see, a large group of us college friends living in the city, and some new friends we've picked up along the way, enjoy visiting our friend from college working her dream job in the dreamy Hoosier State. Our plan is simple: travel by car to the land of "two-bedrooms with parking, a yard, in-unit washer/dryer, and a dishwasher for $400 a month", load up on sustenance, cruise on the boat in Lake Shafer all day, get silly, take over a bar, and make decisions that should only be made by freshman college girls. Our usual poor decision spot closed a few months ago and, this time around, Sayler's became our latest watering hole debacle. And so begins my open letter to Sayler's. Dear Sayler's, Thanks for gracefully dealing with the presence of by 6 FIPS and our 4 local friends this past weekend. From the moment we hit the boat at 11AM Saturday morning we knew that any establishment in the Monticello area would be "happy" to have us as patrons. Your close proximity to our home base made you an easy target for our debauchery and fun that we surely brought. Your $12 beer buckets and less than $3 shots insured that we would be even more fun than we already were by giving us crazy amounts of liquid courage. This helped us negotiate with the DJ when choosing songs for the bar (we were sad to find out he did not have "Midnight Train to Georgia"), populate what was a vacant dance floor, and demonstrate to the rest of the bar patrons how to do planking exercises in multiple places throughout the bar. I can only hope that we were not only a fun presence to be around, but that we also taught your customers important fitness techniques. Although we felt we may have overstayed our welcome by the end of the night (thanks to the girl who tried to "start something" in the bathroom with a friend), thankfully we had one friend who was able to keep us in check, offer a shield or protection, and help us get on our merry way. We still hope you welcome us back the next time you are in town. Signed, Me PS Terri, I hope you had a great 50th birthday party. We sure had fun!
