Went on a Monday for lunch and it was pretty empty. A few people at the bar that seemed to be regulars. The establishment is old and has dark wood from top to bottom, covered in Irish decor. We sat in a secluded area that honestly felt like we were on a boat. I got a Guiness on draft (because you HAVE to when you're at an Irish bar, right?). It was smooth and frothy. We got the pretzel bites and beer cheese (really good) and fried pickles. I got a french dip sandwich - which was on soft toast which made it really hard to dip in the au juis with fries (which were really cripsy and flavorful). Honestly, I've had better dip sandwiches so I wouldn't get it again however they have a very large menu and lots of Irish favorites. Will go back to the establishment for something else. Street parking- didn't see any private flat lot however there is a parking garage about a block away available. Service was good, no complaints. read more

Went here while in town on business. Had a few recommendations. Went in on a Saturday for dinner. I was by myself so I sat at the bar as not to tie up a table. The bartender Brenda was awesome super friendly and was busting her butt. I got an old fashioned which was very good. I ordered the Shepherds Pie (half order) and it was very good. On the side I got McDoogal balls which were unique but they were good as well. I end the night with an excellent Irish Coffee. Greta value and good food. Definitely would go back and recommend you try it as well. read more

While the Guinness is great and the atmosphere is nice we had some issues with our last visit. Ordered boneless wings as a app, I did a breaded tenderloin, and wife ordered club sandwich. Wings came out maybe 3 minutes before main course. Kinda annoying but it happens. We find a piece of metal in the wings like that of a wire brush. Next wife finds a piece of glue in her sandwich which we can assume came from some type of packaging. Brought it to our sever's attention, he apologizes and says "I'll let the boss know". No one ever shows up. The least I ask is a apology but was left with the bill and told thanks for coming. Not sure if we'll be back read more

I had the pleasure of dining with my daughter and her 13 year old triplets after visiting Kokomo Opalescent. Cook's entrance uses that artful glass. The interior is beautifully used old wood floors and paneling. I ordered fish and chips. Unless you are a quart low in oil I would not order it. The pub chips over oiled as well. What was very eye pleasing was my granddaughter's cheese burger. Very generous. She ate every bite. The triple decker( ordered with one piece of bread removed) turkey bacon sandwich was also a winner. Two days later my husband and I returned for the many choices of burgers. Bartenders and staff were very friendly! Asked for choices on ciders and knew which ones she thought I'd like. I ordered the onion soup which was delish! And then I got the chicken tenders basket with ranch and some other sauce. The ranch wasn't ranch. I thought maybe it was blue cheese and maybe just switched on accident, but definitely didn't taste like ranch at all. It was bland and very runny. I had a unexpectedly spectacular experience at cooks recently I I had to come here to rave about it. There was a new server that I hadn't seen before and was skeptical at first. After a delightful introduction Jaycie provided us with admirable service with a witty charm throughout the evening. She add a refreshing vibe to cooks that didn't go unnoticed by myself or the others dining around us. Truly a gem to this place and if they haven't yet they should give her a raise! My wife and I are here in Kokomo from Fort Worth, Texas for the HCVVO reunion. I'm a disabled Vietnam Vet with my certified service dog. Cook McDoogal's looked like a nice place to eat. WRONG! When we entered we were told wait and someone would be with us in a moment. This fat guy in shorts and an ugly shirt said because of the dog we have to be seated outside. Naturally I pointed out that she's my service dog and she goes where I go. Then he stated that his parents own the place and he's following orders from them. I argued the point until my wife took my arm and urged me to leave because I was getting upset. I have a serious case PTSD and this was not helping at all. I recommend that any veterans here this week for the reunion to avoid this place. read more

I was a bit concerned about being in the area soon after the place opebed, but found absolutely no problem with seating, prompt service, & prepared food. My Shepherd's pie was served within minutes by a pleasant waitress. It was delicious, as well. Loved the ambiance if a 'typical' Irish pub., found on the square in a town in the middle of Indiana. We love this place. However, it's now turned into *loved this place. We've been coming for years on and off and the food is always good and have a great time. Last night however, such a dramatic difference. Started off sitting near the kitchen. I don't know what was going on but it smelled AWFUL. Like sewage or something. Like made me gag. Second, the service wasn't great. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't great either. Now onto the food. One of the orders was way wrong. Then a hair was found in the same persons meal. No offer of discounting that persons meal or anything despite not being able to eat half of it from hair. My fish was fine, but fries were barely cooked and were super soggy. My wife's steak didn't seem right so she didn't finish it. 8 hours later she was extremely sick and had to go to the hospital for food poisoning. We are just so disappointed. We loved coming here but it's just gone downhill. Unfortunately we won't be back anytime soon, if ever. Some coworkers and myself were in Kokomo for a Training Class and some of them had been here before and bragged about how great it was. We all decided to go since I had never been and they love it. The ambiance was perfect for the Irish Pub feel. We were quickly seated, but service was a bit long due to a party of like 15 that came in right after us. It was understandable to have patience when it's a Tuesday and something like that occurs. We ordered the Pimento Cheese Dip and Irish Egg Rolls for appetizers, both were delicious! I ordered the Shepherds Pie which was really quite dry but my coworker ordered the Homestead Pie (much more flavorful) and we split them to see which was better. I obviously recommend the Homestead Pie. I had McDoogal Balls as my side and they were ok. I wish there would have been more flavor, maybe some seasoning would have taken them that little extra mile. This is a decent place that I would definitely try again! read more

This was a really great place. I'm from around the area, but never knew this place existed. My favorite Irish pub is Nine Irish Brothers in West Lafayette, but this is an excellent option when I'm not in that area. I ordered a half order of fish and chips, and it was delicious. I was surprised when I received both the chips and french fries, which were both excellent. They had good drink specials, but I just stuck with water this time. The decor is good, and the location is as well. The staff was super friendly from the moment we walked in, and they were enjoyable to talk to. The only bad thing was the noise level. I know an Irish pub isn't going to be quiet, but there was a very large group of men who were extraordinarily loud. I'm sure it isn't like that all the time. Overall, great place! We stopped in here after delivering art to local gallery. The place has great pubby atmosphere -- dark old wood, subdued lighting, colored light coming in through old stained glass windows. Nice. Our waitress was great at a listing all the beers for us that they had on tap (there are quite a few!) And describing the dishes we had questions about. We got an order of the McDougall balls, a corned beef and Swiss on rye, house salad, a beef stew, and french onion soup. All the food was good, though I'm not certain I would order the McDougall balls again (basically deep fried mashed potato balls). Both soups were extremely salty, perhaps the bottom of the batch? The beef soup do was way too salty to eat, but we're taking it home and giving it to my nephew. He'll eat anything. This is a great place to have a beer and a bite to eat with friends. read more

The ambience was very nice, however it was a tad warm. The service was awesome! We ordered the McDoogal balls for an appetizer. My husband loved them, I thought they were good but not amazing. Worth a try though! We ordered the Plastered Chicken entree to share. It was chicken breast smothered in BBQ and topped with bacon and white cheddar cheese. We chose the Yukon whipped potatoes as a side. The chicken was DELICIOUS. I savored every bite. I suggest trying it! Oh yeah! I came. I had a beer. I left. I was with a fellow from Scotland. I asked the waitress if they would play the song Kokomo for us. She mumbled something and we heard no music, so I guess they were sick of the only song on earth that has a title that matches their town name in the middle of nowhereville Indianna. The place was nearly empty around lunch time. Kind of dark. The waitress was friendly, she just didn't tune in when I said where we were from. PS. This place was great food and an even cooler atmosphere. There were five people in our group and we got couple different drinks, an appetizer and four different dinners. Everyone loved the Scottish egg rolls with the cheese sauce. The favorite dinner was the corn beef and cabbage and the fries were great. The fries had a great seasoning on them...not like any seasoning you would think would be at an Irish pub. The service was a little slow, but we didn't mind since we were with out of town family and we could see they were super busy. We stopped in on a Friday evening before the movies. Surprised it wasn't very busy at 5:30 too. I was liking the vibe of an old school tavern with typ wood aged to perfection in every nook & cranny - including comfy chairs, tables and recycled pews. We both selected the breaded tenderloins, she w/ onion rings & me fries. Let's skip to the chase now; The good; everything arrives at the table piping hot & golden brown. The bun is fantastic! The not so good; temp seems off on the fryer - it's all crispy but SUPER greasy. After half an hour it's even worse.
