In January, I wrote a review discussing the racism I experienced at this establishment. I was contacted by the owner via email after my review. The owner asked how I would like things resolved. I went ahead and informed him of what I recommended such as: 1. Writing said employee up. 2. Learning how to create an inclusive space with the example of Rose City Coffee Co. as a starting point, as I have always felt safe there. 3. Contacting me back for follow-up, so that I know some form of accountability was done. I informed him that it is up to him to decide what to do, but sadly, he never bothered to follow up with me, and informed me of whether or not steps had been taken to address the racism at his establishment. I am extremely disappointed that I never received an email back. If he would have followed up, I would have considered returning to his establishment, but I am afraid I cannot say this. There was a major rupture as a result of the lack of accountability without the repair via accountability that is necessary. I believe, as a matter of respect, I deserved a follow up. I have attached the original post.

The perfect scoop

My favorite and most underrated ice cream shop in Portland. I mean underrated here more in that less people in town seem to know about it - those of us that have been know it's legit! It's a lesser known gem for all of us living in deep southeast. All the flavors are solid and I always have hard time choosing which one I want. They have quite a few gluten free and vegan options as well Line can get long, but they are always well staffed and I think the line moves pretty fast. Never had a problem with parking, and it's a great central location along Woodstocks main drive which makes it a great "add-on" stop when I am doing any errand in the neighborhood.

We were in the area craving some ice cream and randomly stumbled upon Cloud City Ice Cream, and it was definitely worth the stop! They have many special and unique flavors and I ended up picking the sasquatch one and the gold digger as they had a perfect blend of ice cream and toppings! And considering I only got the regular size, it was so much! The service was fine and we were able to get through quickly, the only thing is that the store is rather small so be prepared to line up outside.

Got the brown butter ice cream with cornbread with blueberry sauce. Yup All the scoops were good. Fun spot, great flavors.

Better Than Therapy - regular scoop on a complimentary sugar cone

Wow, this was truly the best icecream I've ever had, and you get SO MUCH for a reasonable price. The basic cone comes free but my friend got the waffle cone which was worth the extra $2 - you immediately smell the deliciousness of the fresh waffle cones when you step inside. I got the "Better Than Therapy" flavor which was almost like a lemon pie, with plenty of amazing "crust" - this place does NOT skimp on their toppings! The inside was very clean and cute. The workers were friendly and let you sample as much as your heart desires. I can't wait to come back!

Cookie dough

This is a really good ice cream spot. Definitely above average. If you like mix ins this is the place for you. The cookie dough flavor is almost 50% dough to ice cream ratio. I got the circus friends which was really good. I feel like there were almost too many cookies mixed in but that's just my preference. It was 5.50$ for a regular size which in my opinion is a good price for ice cream these days. Employees are friendly and let you try samples. Some indoor and outdoor seating. Would recommend!

Visited Cloud City Ice Cream on a warm evening and tried the strawberry and Magic Sparkle flavors. Both were fun in different ways. The strawberry had that classic, creamy texture with a flavor that actually tasted like ripe fruit rather than something artificial. The Magic Sparkle was more playful, with a swirl of colors and subtle hints of vanilla and candy and it definitely made for people who enjoy something whimsical without being cloying. The staff behind the counter were upbeat and patient, offering samples and giving honest input when I asked about flavor pairings. Even with a small line, the service felt personal and not rushed. The shop itself has a quirky, neighborhood feel. It's colorful without being overdone, with just enough seating to sit and enjoy your scoop. You can tell it's a local favorite, with families, couples, and solo visitors all stopping in. It's the kind of place that doesn't try too hard but gets the details right. Worth a stop if you're nearby and looking for small-batch ice cream with personality.

Wow. Dare I say it?.... It is better than salt and straw. There. I said it. So many amazing flavors and a great selection of vegan options! It's a cute place with some fun decorations. But the real draw is the phenomenal ice cream! I highly suggest that you check it out!

Always love the opportunity to drop by Cloud City. They have such an amazing range of flavors, and the staff are always friendly. I appreciate that they have wooden spoons instead of plastic and options for different dietary needs. I had the Unicorn today which was definitely moreish. It had a nice mix of textures with refreshing, hidden strawberry bites amidst the red velvet goodness.

I'm always excited to try new ice cream in Portland! I tried a couple flavors and they were all good, but I ordered a regular size scoop of the Circus friends, which is sweet cream ice cream with mother's frosted animal cookies. It was good but not amazing. There aren't enough cookies in it and the base doesn't have a ton of flavor. The serving was huge though! My husband couldn't even finish his. Cloud City is definitely worth a visit if you're in the Woodstock area.

OMG this was some good stuff. I got the sea salt cookie dough and the cookie dough to ice cream ratio was . I also got the dark chocolate salted caramel and overall those 2 flavors as a combo was delicious. I would say pretty comparable to salt and straw. They were really good at giving samples too which is nice!

Steve A.

If you're on Woodstock, cloud city is your best bet for tasty ice-cream with a local flare. Expect a line, but it's worth the wait. Lots of flavor, cones, and vegan options. Friendly staff. Street parking. Enjoy!

Do you offer a birthday treat?

Hi Bree, yes a free regular scoop on your birthday.

Are you open on Veterans Day? What are your holiday hours?

Hi Frankie. Yes, we will be open from noon-10pm.

What kinds or milk are used in your vegan ice creams? Do you have any made with just coconut milk?

Hi Katherine, we only use coconut milk for the vegan ice creams. In the past we’ve made some with hemp milk mixed with coconut milk but we’re not currently using hemp milk in any of our flavors :)

It's upscale ice cream... are you expecting to be disappointed?…read more I'm sure you at least know Salt & Straw by reputation... it's the preeminent ice cream chain in Portland. And for good reasons! The flavors, taste and experience are truly phenomenal. I typically try to visit during the day so that there isn't a long line. They have standard staples for flavors and then seasonal ones that rotate every few months. This particular location has very little seating so you should plan to take yours to go. I recommend enjoying it while you stroll on NW 23rd. Otherwise, the staff will be happy to pack up a scoop for you and/or you can take a pint to go! Parking is a typical challenge for this area, but prices are reasonable and you can't beat the service. My favorite part of the experience is that first step into the front door when I smell the fresh waffle cones being made. As someone who used to work in an ice cream shop, I have very high standards for what is served to the customer - the scoop sizes we received were noticeably inconsistent when compared to past visits & in my opinion, if a scoop doesn't at least appear to fill the cup, either smaller cups are needed or scoopers should be trained to not have their scoops be so compact. One of the scoops in the double mini we ordered was literally 1/3 the size of the other, cost more than the regular scoop but had less ice cream. The regular scoop was compressed into such a tight, dense ball, it was rolling around my cup like a marble on the drive home. We couldn't help but laugh when we looked in our cups because the portions we had just paid for were comical. For prices that are set at a premium, I want to feel like I'm getting my money's worth and don't like walking out of an establishment feeling ripped off.
