She said her name was Jerry. Working front desk on Thursday around 6pm. I rarely leave negative reviews, but the level of rudeness and lack of basic courtesy I experienced here was unacceptable. From the moment I walked in, the staff seemed more interested in chatting among themselves than acknowledging customers. When I finally did receive attention, I was met with an impatient tone and dismissive attitude, as though I was a burden for simply asking a question. Customer service should be about making people feel welcome and valued, but this experience was the complete opposite. There was no effort to help, no eye contact, and certainly no apology for the wait or poor communication. It felt like I was being rushed out rather than served. If you're looking for a place that respects your time and treats you with basic human decency, I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

This is SERIOUSLY my favorite clothing store in Ocean Beach and maybe even all of San Diego! Unique styles you cannot find elsewhere, reasonable prices and excellent service. I recently took one of my friends visiting from the east coast as she wanted to do stuff that was not touristy - and she piled up so many clothes because she said she could never find these things online! One of my favorite things is the paisley-printed bell bottom knit pants - I get SO many compliments on them and they're only $19 here and they always have them - I give a lot of referrals for these alone! The store is cluttered and doesn't look clean. By accident I purchased a shirt that had a hole in the back. Thinking this would be no big deal, I went to exchange the shirt. NOPE. She would not let me exchange the shirt for another one. I will NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN. read more

Some things are a little more pricey but all in all, I got a maxi dress, 3 little dresses, and a shirt for like $58. I will DEFINITELY be re-visiting this place often during the summer months! When I was in my 20's this shop was awesome cheap trendy clothes. They also have accessories and shoes here. Now that I can widen my shopping options it's not as great anymore. I only come here now to get cheap t shirts or tank tops for screen printing for events. I also like to get cheap undershirts here to wear under some of my tops. I will admit some of there dresses are really cute. Prices have gone up and quality hasn't improved. But let's be honest you are not buying clothes here to quality. It's quick trendy fashion. They have gym clothes now, including leggings with pockets which I love. Sports bras and tops. They also have cute lace bralettes and crop tops perfect for summer or a festival. Overall pricing for most items are decently cheap. Quality isn't great but they carry cute and trendy fast fashion items. read more

Received a Christmas present beautiful jacket that was one size too big. Went in to exchange for a small which was on the rack was told I was past the return date. This was a pleasant store to come across in Ocean Beach with an assortment of adorable women's clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, beauty products and home decor. To make things better, they're generally very affordable. I picked up a beautiful cardigan with pearl buttons that I still use to this day. If I come to this area again, I wouldn't mind returning to pick up cute little outfits. There were colorful rompers, tops, shoes, flowy pants, jeans, earrings, necklaces, makeup products...so many things! There's always something to find here for women. I highly recommend it. The only con I found, which is common for discount stores, was the disorganization and old furniture/interior design. The labels for the items were sometimes hand-written and some clothes were smeared with makeup. Perhaps things will change when I return the next time. I love to look into different shops but tend to walk by boutique clothing stores because it is rare I find items that would fit me. My top half is literally double my bottom size so I need separates, super stretchy items, items that aren't for juniors, or I need plus size. I almost didn't come in but then I saw a small sign in their window saying they had a curvy section so I decided to come in. The store was much larger than I anticipated. There are a ton of options available and so much of it was so cute! However, the curvy section was 2 racks so it was super disappointing especially since the store wasn't really geared towards juniors. I would say it was geared towards young adults, which I still qualify as, just apparently not my size as a young adult. There were so many tips that I loved but knew there was no way my busy was fitting into it. There was a couple of skirts I liked but I didn't have the right shirts in my closet for them and I couldn't get a shirt there. The prices are low, low, low so don't expect super great quality. Honestly it is like forever 21 quality, but at better prices. Overall, a cute store but I wish it had larger sizes. High school and college me would have dropped dollas at this store. read more

I was pretty upset especially because their straight sizes are so cute but are incredibly small when my friend is 120lbs wearing a large that's not good. I still had high hopes seeing the "plus size" section in the back which is basically 3 racks of the ugliest quarter sleeve shirts and dresses in the same size and color. I wish stores like this would realize if you buy the exact same straight size clothes but bigger plus size people would actually buy the clothes. Don't come in here expecting quality. What you will find is a large selection of basics and fashion clothing that are cheaply made with a price to match. Should that scare you off? Don't let it! I was able to find some values and I am glad I was able to stop in. I got two Maxi dresses (each about $7), a pair of yoga pants (under $7), some crop tops (really cute and all under $5, crop tops are for some reason SUPER expensive other places), and some strapless bras (again about $5). Yes the quality is cheap (I argue in a lot of cases worse than F21 but I think it depends on the item) but most of this stuff you won't be wearing next year. All my items say hand wash. That isn't gonna happen. I will put all these items in the washer and I will do my best to not toss them in the dryer because then I go from asking for trouble to begging for it. If they fall apart I will update. Also don't expect your money back on anything you buy. They have a long list of rules on returns so I suggest you act like you are never going to see a dime back. I guess that is the price one pays for the chance to roll the dice on some cute clothing for cheap. Minus a star because my maxi dresses sorta smelled funny. I've visited closet a couple of times as it is near a nail salon I frequent. The store sells unique clothing, accessories, purses and shoes at low prices. Some of the clothing are adorable but at lesser quality. They do have a great selection of shoes, from pumps to flats. Unfortunately, I have not been able to purchase a pair of shoes secondary to the store not having my size in stock. I'd probably return to this store next time I'm in the area but wouldn't make a special trip to O.B. just to shop at closet. read more

They have everything you need for your wardrobe in one store - dresses for clubbing, dresses for a casual day, collared shirts for work, shorts/sweats for working out, jeans, polos, whatever you name it. Of course the quality isn't great, but for the price you can't really complain. I tend to get sick of stuff easily, so cheap clothing that lasts a short while works great for me. You can get boybeaters or other basic tanks for like $4. I've gotten some really cute dresses to wear in Vegas for $20-$25. I got a pair of black stilettos with rhinestone detailing for $5 once. Extremely rude staff, unfair exchange policy even when an immediate family member unexpectedly died and I was unable to physically return to the store they wouldn't let me do an EXCHANGE for two items - and she was not nice about it. Will not be shopping here anymore from the cold nature of the staff and overall how egregious that interaction was. Omg I came here and got some things as I've been there before tons of times and when I left previously she said I'd get $25 off my next purchase , I went back again a couple weeks later to use my discount (as she told me when I left) I even asked when I left how would I be able to know I get the $25 off and she said all you need is your phone number , when I go to check out the girl to check out did not understand anything I was saying as well as had her little dog with her sitting on the counter. Then she needed to call the manager as I waited 35 minutes for the manager to show up she still went on to tell me how I did not have $25 off and that she will do it for me this time but that's it . I used to love, love The Closet. Fun inexpensive trendy clothes and jewelry, fun to wear, doesn't break the wallet. In fact, a month ago I would have given them at least 4 stars. I would stop in regularly and stock up, spend $50 and feel like i got 3 times my money worth, they even have one of those buyers club discount cards.... BUT BUT BUT The last time I went in, I wanted to exchange 2 shirts that I got the week before, in medium. Same shirt, 2 different colors, when i got home, I just decided the smaller size would be better. The shirts both had the original store tags attached, the discount card clearly showed I had bought the 2 shirts that week at that store, and the shirts were still tagged and the brand new folds still in them. I did not have the sales receipt but what the heck, i was exchanging for size only, and I figured I am in there often enough...And were talking maybe $25 total in merchandise. So a week later, the woman at the register refused to let me exchange the 2 mediums for the 2 smalls. Because I did not have the receipt she said, I "could have bought them anywhere" and refused to let me exchange them for size. Well, besides the tags on the clothing clearly showed that store, the discount card proved I bought them, and the fact that I was exchanging not returning, I guess I had no proof, But then again, who cares if I did buy them somewhere else????? It is the same shirt.....What was worse, was the two women behind the counter were looking at me like I was robbing the store with a gun. When she refused to return them, I decided not to purchase the other $50 or so of items I had at the register. Lo and behold, I ransacked my car and found the receipt. I returned to the store, seething because parking on Newport is not that easy, made my exchange, and swore I would never go in there again. By the way, the sales receipt, which you get AFTER the sale, says 10 days exchange only, no refunds, and exchanges not applicable for "dresses, jewelry, handbags, jeans and ETC". Literally, "ETC". Okay this place was honestly a godsend when I was on my trip. I didn't know what the weather was going to be like so being able to come across this place with a lot of cute and cheap options was great. Only thing I will say, is if you are curvy and over a size 8 (like me) they unfortunate don't have a lot of options that will work for you. Especially top wise. Their larges fit like a small medium. Meh. That's the only word that comes to mind when I think of the closet. I come here to buy basics for cheap; yoga pants, tank tops, velour sweat suits (didn't know people still wore those things) in every color of the rainbow. I've bought a few pairs of shorts from here but every pair seems to be itchy from the poorly placed tags (which they sew into the shorts so you cant rip them out by the way) or the cheap fabric that feels like it was sewn together by some child slave in a dingy sweatshop. But I guess I can't hate too much because I keep coming back and usually don't leave without buying a thing or two. But I usually just buy basics. I have to really dig deep, like a homeless person in a dumpster to find any outerwear that I really can't live without. Most of the shirts look really cheap and aren't form fitting, or cute, at all. Jewelry is ghetto and mostly plastic. Shoes are uncomfortable and will give you blisters. And the sales associates are not friendly or helpful and spend most of their time chit chatting with each other. Music is always some really loud and obnoxious top 40's mixed with bad techno music. I only shop here because it's cheap and close to my house, but if I wasn't so lazy I could drive my happy ass to Forever 21 and get better quality, cuter, clothes, shoes that don't blister my feet, non-plastic jewelry,sales associated that at least pretend to be helpful, and still listen to loud, obnoxious music. But I'm lazy so that rarely happens, it does sometimes though. And someone please tell me wtf is up with the plethora of masquerade masks they have at the front counter in the glass case. I have been coming here for more than 20 years. Somehow they always have the warmest sweaters in a very hot climate! They have super cute clothes, very light clothes too for people who may have sun allergies and want to keep covered without dying of the heat. I always, always find things here. I went every day this last visit and every day they had new stuff to offer. These are brand new clothes for cheap.
