This one star rating is for the barber YES, who lacked professionalism in responding back to my availability request for him to give me a haircut. I reached out to him 5 times over a span of 4 days. 3 times I texted him, no response but he read my message. One time I called into the shop to verify if he was still employed but was advised he was and to call him directly back later that day. I call back get a hold of him, and then he abruptly ends the call and tells me to text him again. I do that and once again get ghosted. I tried coordinating this appointment one week in advance for a wedding I am attending this weekend on the east coast. Thank god I booked an appointment online and YOUSIF was available to cut me. He did a great job but unfortunately YES couldn't afford me the same level of professionalism that I expect from a barber who cuts at a barbershop. I started bringing my son here because after procrastinating one weekend, I found myself scrambling to get my son's haircut late on a Sunday afternoon. I did a search & called the first open barbershop closest to my house & it's been history ever since. I don't like getting my haircut anywhere else other than my barber in North Park. However, today, I had to get a haircut in El Cajon before 9.30, and this was the only shop that was open. So I decided to give it a try, even though the reviews that I've read here really worried me. I wouldn't give this place a chance at all, if it wasn't my only option this morning. Reviews are definitely something they need to work on. I wasn't expecting anyone to greet me, so I was ready for an awkward waiting process. However, two out of three barbers greeted me, and one of them asked if I wanted to get a cut. He did a good job overall, took way longer than my own barber, but I think it's normal considering that it was 9 in the morning, I was probably his first customer and it was his first time cutting my hair as well. Alex told me "he needs to be patient" lol after almost 2hrs still nothing. They didn't even speak to him to let him know what the deal was. I just told him to leave. Came in here for the first time a month ago from recommendations from my friends. Got a haircut by an African American man with glasses. I asked for trim up top and a low skin fade. During the haircut, here is my experience... Strike 1: talking on the phone for a few minutes while cutting my hair Strike 2: While taking a break to clean the clippers, he picked up his phone and started texting Strike 3: I asked skin fade and it wasn't Strike 4: putting his fingers on my lips when using a razor blade Strike 5: the lineup I probably should've spoke up about it, but I didn't want to offend him. Took it to yelp instead to warn people. $25 for a bad haircut is ridiculous. I also expect a licensed barber to know what a straight line looks like. I complained to my friends and they said the barbers with the dreads are the best, but I doubt I will come here again. read more

here's what happened. Firstly, I cut my own hair. This time I was doing a scissor fade, and I obviously couldn't cut the back, so I thought "Hey, I'll go into a barbershop that could clean up just THE BACK" I picked this one and journeyed out. Antonio was nice and laid back, sat me down right away, but when i explained what i wanted (just the back cut) he didn't seem to be paying attention . Instead he started right away. On the sides. doing his default haircut on me, f*cking up the haircut i had leaving me with about an inch off the front of each side of my face looking like I have a receding hairline. After pushing the issue he finally came to understand what I wanted and finished strong, minus me looking like friar tuck. That's why they get 2 stars instead of 1. Because after explaining 3 times, the guy finally got it right. Anyways stood up and was as satisfied as i could be with what i had left of my hair, and asked about the price.He tells me it's 25$. I pull that out and he says oh wait its 30$. Seriously? changes the price.... and it costs 30$ to have THE BACK of your head cleaned up? I felt scammed. I cut my own hair to save money, and i thought a barbershop that focuses on fades could clean up the back, have me out in ten minutes, and cost about 15$-20$. If I wanted to spend 30$ i would not cut my own hair, and I'd go somewhere more upscale where for the same price your hair gets washed, the stylist listens to you, and you can drink wine or beer while they cut your entire head of hair.
