I want to love this place because the staff was very kind and hospitable, but that is not what deserves the primary review in a barber shop. My haircut looked nice but wasn't even close to what I asked for. I asked for a mullet and she clarified that she knew how to cut one. I already had one for 9 months and just needed some cleaning on the side and a beard trim. She decided to cut my hair entirely random with some fading v neck in the back. No resemblance of a mullet, and all my curls in the back were gone. Super sad, won't be back. If you want a regular fade, I'm sure they do those great. read more

I have been getting my haircut here for 10 years, this has been the only place to cut my hair the last 10 years. I started coming into to have my haircut when this couple was located on Carlton Hills next to the Pathways Church, when they moved I followed. Well since I don't live in Santee it can be hard sometimes to get over to have my haircut when I want. But without fail I have come every time to this location. Since I follow the same haircut procedure every time there is no need to explain. I walk out with my ears lowered and happy each visit. On a recent trip from 29 Palms to visit my Bro in Santee, I went out one early morning for some decent coffee (no offense Peter). Found a $tarbucks. Next door, was Sal's. I thought, why not give it a try; I was looking pretty ratty. The shop was clean and well lit. Everyone was very friendly (and not overly chatty). Had my turn and was quite happy. Now I mentioned I was from 29 Palms. It's next to a Marine Corps base and there are quite a few haircut places! And, a "civilian" cut is $7 and you kinda get what you pay for; and they are really 'fast' too. So I'm used to pretty inexpensive haircuts except when I go to the "big city." So now I'm wondering what this really nice haircut is going to set me back. I was surprised, only $8. Needless to say, I now ONLY go to Sal's to get my haircut; 350 miles round trip. Of course I have to visit my family more often. But that's a small price to pay to get a haircut at Sal's! read more

Tried this place a few times since I moved to Santee. Price is fair for a simple buzz cut and they do a good job.

This Barber shop is great! $10 for an adult male cut, forget about it! The women that cut my hair did a great job and took a few extra minutes to handle the details. The chairs are very comfortable and the shop was clean. They only accept cash so be prepared but there is an ATM in the grocery store across the parking lot. I will be back! read more

My son and I visited Sal's Barber Shop today for the first time in quite a while. Previously located in the Pathways Center at Mast and Carlton Hills for the past 10 years or more, Sal's has moved to a great new location, next to Starbucks in the Albertsons Shopping Center in Santee. (And ANY business looks better sitting next to a Starbucks, don't you think?) With a basic haircut just $8.00, it's hard to beat, and our haircuts turned out well. The barbers were gentle,friendly, and fairly fast. They are set up to run 5 chairs if needed, but today were staffing 3, and our wait was 10 minutes or less. The shop is quite attractive inside and out, clean, and with a nice customer restroom. They're a class act, and we expect to be seeing more of them in the near future. read more

I've been coming to Sal's for over 20 years (they recently moved to this location) and I've never left with a bad haircut. They always do an outstanding job, are always super friendly, and are incredibly affordable. Most haircuts are just $10. I use to travel for work for long periods of time and I'd often neglect getting a haircut just so I could come back and use Sal's. Whenever I did have to get a haircut elsewhere, I found myself wishing they were more like this place. Even if they doubled the price I'd be a loyal customer for life. Not only do they have excellent service, but it is always with a kind friendly smile. They have had my business now 6 years and I go about every 10 days to get my buzz cut. Those of you that need a lesson in customer service should watch these 2 work and have their ears to the ground taking care of their customers. And they always remember your name and cut. Someone mentioned cash only is a reason not to trust a business; not sure what planet they are from but if you need a credit card for 8 to 10 bucks, maybe you get a 2nd job.
