After reaching out on Yelp, the gents here set me up in the system for a 7:30AM appointment (I was waiting with the car). Amazingly clean waiting room (and super comfy chairs). Free WiFi, free coffee and tea. And incredibly nice service! And the best part? Car was done in an hour (the original thought was 90 minutes) and was done perfectly. My winter tires were bagged up (again, these little touches mean a lot to me) and were really well-placed back inside my car. Great service and these guys will get my business going forward!

When I picked it up, I was told I needed $2,500 worth of other repairs, many of which I'm now questioning. I wasn't confident in their assessment, especially since the original issue they were supposed to fix wasn't actually resolved, and the problem resurfaced shortly after. Then I brought my own car in for new tires, and now three out of the four tire sensors are malfunctioning, which was never an issue before. I've had enough. I've dealt with the manager most of the time, and it's a shame because I used to trust them and spent a lot of money there. It's hard enough to find a reliable mechanic these days, but after this experience, I'm done.

I highly recommend Van Houten Auto.

Ridiculous At first, over the phone I was quoted a price of $950 to fix it again! When I showed up with my dad, it was $570. This owner is a crook! DON'T GO HERE! I would give zero stars if I could. UPDATE: 6/27/19 I took my truck to Driveworks in Jersey City and the cost of a new compressor is $280 and I paid $300 for labor and Freon. This is much cheaper than the original $950 I paid for the same services at Van Houten. Be advised that after I posted this poor review, the owner left me a voicemail "to make me an offer." I never returned the call.

When we replaced that car with a Toyota, we started having it serviced at the dealer, and invariably something little would leave us annoyed: forgetting to reset the display panel, smudges on the seats, and so on. Yesterday, a few day after we'd been to the dealer for regular service, the "low tire" light came on while my wife was driving. I ran the car over to Ampat early this morning, and they took it in right away, put it on the lift, and discovered that apparently the last servicepeople hadn't bothered to top off the air. Ampat did so, brought the car back, and charged me exactly ... nothing. Not for their time, not for taking the trouble to put it on the lift, not for carefully checking every tire to make sure there were no nails. And this on a cold, cold morning when they could easily have just told me to leave the car and come back later. A great way to start a Monday morning. And we'll be servicing our car here, again, from now on.
