More like Cliff's unprofessional painting. I placed a called to Cliff and he said he would come give me an estimate the next day at 5:30. He took down my information and that was that. I arrive at the house the next day at 530 and wait for 20 minutes. I called him and he says "I forgot I had another appointment today at 6:00 in San Marcos. I can schedule another time with you." So you wait until youre 20 minutes late to tell me only after I call? Such unprofessional bull***. He didnt even seem sorry and was very nonchalant about it. Cliff's is a totally reasonable option for a quality painting job; the only negative was initially lazy contract work which - to Cliff's credit - he was happy to revisit and make the situation right. I hired them to knock the popcorn off the ceilings in a new condo. They did that at a reasonable price, and pretty much threw in removal of some cabinets that seriously needed to go - and repainted/retextured the ceiling for free. Cliff runs the operation; he's a totally accessible and friendly guy - he's just a little (and he admits it) flaky from time to time. He gives you an estimate of when he'll start and finish and just kind of calls to say... okay... now! So you have to be ready to meet him whenever he calls. The crew also left without cleaning up the first time, but Cliff was happy to bring them back to finish the job (which, quite frankly, shocked me since I had already paid). Now, the place is a-sparklin', and looks great (and popcorn free!). So... if you want a reasonably priced option for a local business that does a good job, give him a call. Just be prepared to deal with mild scheduling hiccups and the potential that you might have to ask them to come back again to clean up for real. read more

We had 1 room painted for our baby's nursery by Cliff's team. The room needed lots of cracks and holes filled, a closet door replaced and all trim work painted as well. Plus, the guys replaced 2 light fixtures with no major electrical work needed. They did all of this in one day, and the results are great! Clean lines, and no messes left. They even had the idea to paint inside the closet with our wall color since there was left over paint. All in all, very happy. This was a second job for us by Cliff. It did take a few extra days to get the quote back but that was due from an illness. read more

I hired Cliff to remove popcorn ceilings and retexture/repaint my entire house, inside and out. I got three estimates: first one was SUPER expensive (just the interior was quoted at more than 150% higher than Cliff's estimate for both interior and exterior. Second was slightly higher than Cliff's, but was a husband/wife team that could only work evenings and weekends. Third was Cliff's estimate, which was so reasonable I almost couldn't believe it - especially after getting the first estimate. As with any contractor, communication is key. We walked through every room in the house and discussed what prep I would do first, terms for trash disposal, and exactly what did or didn't need to be done in each room. We met at the paint store to go over colors and made a list of the colors for each room. I stayed in touch, stopped by the house to check on the work each day, and Cliff stopped by to check on it as well. When I forgot what I had asked on one part of the exterior, Cliff was very nice about reminding me - and then very accommodating about me changing my mind. And the crew was great! A really nice bunch of guys. The only issue was that the cleanup was rushed because they ran late due to the terrible condition of my walls. Since I didn't leave any wiggle room between the painters finishing and the floor guys redoing all the floors, the painters had to finish up around the flooring and weren't able to get everything squeaky clean. And regardless of whether they did or didn't, dust from removing popcorn takes days to settle, so I would have to clean that in any case. Painted the outside of my house. Cliff's crew was efficient and did a great job. They covered all the cracks with putty that the lazy builder didn't even bother to fill. They saved a door in which the trim had rotted on the bottom using rock putty and you can't tell where the wood ends and the rock putty begins. Another door had to be completely replaced due to rotting wood. It looks awesome! His crew also fixed the rotting wood around our garage door. I was so pleased that the power wash included the mold that had formed on our bricks. I'm a value guy. I would say Cliff's prices give you the best bang for the buck. Cliff came and gave me a bid on repainting my kitchen cabinets. I told him he could take them with him and there was no big rush. (BIG mistake.) Three weeks go by. I called him (not mad, not irritated, just curious) to see if I could get a time frame. He had NO IDEA who I was. After I continued to remind him he remembered and said that he gave the cabinet doors to "one of his guys." Said he would call the guy and see what the progress was and call me back. Never called back. I called the next morning. He said that the guy had not started, but that was his (Cliffs) fault because he had told him no rush so the guy did not think he needed to start on them. (More than 3 weeks at this point.) I asked him when he thought they would be done. Two weeks? One week? He says, "Oh no, no, no, we'll get right on 'em." A week later I CALL HIM again. This time I'm pissed. He was totally rude and dismissive of me. Actually LAUGHS on the phone when I tell him I think he's unprofessional. I told him I wanted the doors back - finished or not by the end of business the next day. Never heard from him. My husband calls the next morning. Cliff tells HIM that he's waiting for the paint to dry because it's oil based paint. He'll have them here the next day. Never heard from him. A few days later he calls and leaves a message that they're done and he wants to bring them by. I call. He says he can't do it that day, but will bring them the next morning. I ask him what time (it's a Saturday and my family has plans). He says, "I have no idea. I got my grandson's birthday party to go to." I asked him if it would be before noon. He laughs and says, "I said morning." Never heard from him, never showed. Left him an ugly message. An hour later my husband called and left another message. Nothing as of this post. I would NEVER NEVER NEVER recommend this guy to my worst enemy. I'm currently filing out a form with the Better Business Bureau as well as posting here. The guy is a major flake and gets downright rude and offensive if you try to question him. I would give no stars if I could. I'd also like to add that we've been renovating our house slowly for 5 years and this is only the second guy I've had that was a major flake so you can be sure that I am not a problem customer in any way!! Cliff's Professional Painting. Cliff and his crew painted the exterior of our house in April 2011, the job included paint and labor, it only took only 3 days. Overall I was very happy with the service. He painted the exterior of our home with two colors that we selected and he picked them up and brought to the site the day of the job. He only required we pay 25% down for the job, which I thought was pretty cool. I called Cliff because I saw his ad on Craigslist. I was looking for a good price, and I didn't want a big company doing the job because we are first time home owners and had a small budget. I called Cliff on the weekend about coming over for a quote and he came by the following Monday to quote. He was very easy, friendly and super easygoing. I liked that he basically looked at my house, discussed what he could and would do, and had a price quote within 10 minutes of looking at the house. My second price quote came from a lady that was way over priced and didn't include paint. She also insisted I use her recommended paint. Cliff gave us options for paint type and didn't try to upsell me or anything like that. Cliff had a quote in my hand before he walked out the door which I thought was cool. No sales pitch with Cliff, straight up he tells you what it takes and how much, no pressure. The following days he and his great crew of 3 guys knocked out my house in a very quick professional manner. They did things I didn't expect like caulk the entire house, they even did along trim lines for the wood trim that runs up and down our house, which must have taken them forever. This I didn't expect, really made me feel that they were sealing things off. They did TONS of prep work and that made me feel good. His crew was 3 non-speaking english guys, but they seemed like really hard workers. It's funny too, I think I speak more Spanish than Cliff so I chatted with his guys (barely). Regarding his crew, Cliff even had them fix my botched trim job that I put together around a window and he said they used two whole bottles of caulk to fill it. Cliff seems like the kind of guy that goes above expectations, as long as you let him know about it. He was generous to fix things he even offered to put in trim for me around the window and something tells me he might have done it for free if I had the wood in place but I told him not to bother. I think he has a laid back style that might get under some peoples skin, but to me he's an honest, laid back guy that has been painting for 30 years. His crew weren't professionals when he hired them but I think he trained them well. I am glad I was there to hang out with him and it seemed like anything I mentioned he took care of it or reassured me that they'd get to it and they did. I even had a broken post that his crew helped me put back on the house, this wasn't in the job description originally but his guys did it for me and I was impressed that they dropped what they were doing to help me with a handyman job. He also had them paint the mailbox post and a few other things I would have never thought of. In getting to know Cliff it sounds like his crew can do a lot more than just painting and I had him quote me on some popcorn removal in our living room (which includes paint job too for free!) and I was really impressed with the price because I've done the job in another room and it was WAY worth it to take him up on it. I will definitely be bringing him back for some interior work when the time is right . Cliff is a really down to earth straightforward guy. He told me exactly what goes into a job, and even mentioned how much he made on one job. My favorite quote "you don't get rich paintin houses" and I liked that he was straight up about his philosophy. We swapped some stories and we even talked about reviews. He told me about 2 negative reviews in his 30 years, and I have to side with him after hearing the details. If you are into a chill, professional economical paint job, Cliff is your man. I support local business and I like a guy that's doing it on his own and I'm very tolerant as a consumer, I feel that they really gave me a great paint job for a great price. Maybe for some of the uptight housewives that are going to eagle eye the entire job and look for things to get pissed off about they might want to splurge on painters that are super high quality. I've read in one other review about his crew leaving behind a mess but the lady asked them to clean it up and they did. As long as you ask him to make it right Cliff will do it. I think the key here is, quality paint job for a low price. Cliff works on his own terms, and I'm sure that with the logistics involved in painting and his laid back style it might make some customers a little uncomfortable but I see it like this. I agree with the reviewer who wrote "More like Cliff's unprofessional painting". Cliff told me it would take a crew of about four people 4 to 5 days to do the job. He gave me a vague start date, then called one day and just wanted to show up immediately, saying I don't need to clear the area of my belongings. After only three days of work his crew said they were done and that they had another job starting the next morning. Thank God I had ignored Cliff's advice and had cleared most of my belongings, because there was paint on things I had left behind. You could even see the shape of where a box had been on the floor! (He later falsely claimed that he had covered the entire floor before painting, but my photos of paint on the floor prove otherwise.) When I asked them to remove the excess paint, at first they just cleaned around the box shape, so it wasn't as obvious, then said they were done again. Seeing they weren't going to do the job right, I finally got down on my hands and knees and started scrubbing myself. I've spent many hours over multiple days, and there's still a faint residue. Cliff told me he only pays some of his crew by the hour. I heard the rest of them get a percentage of the job, which might explain their rush. read more

Cliff and his guys came to my house the same day I called them and their bid was $2,500 under my highest bidder. That's a lot of money. Also, Cliff was highly recommended by my very well-respected realtor. Cliff's price was crazy reasonable and he actually came to the job site and checked on his guys everyday of a 5 day job. Cliff's really an artist more than a slap-and-done painter. I asked for two different colors and got exactly what I asked for. He painted 1980's stained doors and trim to look like new for a house I'm selling in a week. I actually want to keep the house now. He also volunteered to scrape a ceiling and repaint the master (matching the old color wonderfully) when the realtor came in and requested an update. He went above and beyond moving his guys all over my house starting new areas when other contractors needed in to do their jobs in a specific place. Even further, the guys touched up their own work when they saw a ding made by movers, electricians, etc. When I got sick in the middle of the job, Cliff offered to paint three more doors and bathroom cabinets. With all my add ons, he only charged me a few hundred more dollars....popcorn, painting a room, three doors, a whole room of cabinets- for the price of football tickets....this guy is the absolutely the most compassionate, customer oriented, expert painter that you can hire. I just recently moved in to a home in Austin and I need all the bed rooms in my house painted along with the kitchen and a popcorn removal in it. I called a few companies and had some estimates and the just weren't reasonable. I then decided to take a look on craigslist and I saw Cliff's add. I gave him a call and told him what I needed. He then asked me when I was able to have him come see the house! I was very happy with that! The other places just told me when they could make it out therefore causing me to miss work. After I gave him the time and day he showed up, looked at the job and gave me and estimate in seconds! The price was great and the time frame was just as great! He let me look at some paint choices and told me what he thought which brand was best but let me pick out whichever brand I wanted, I of course I went with his choice! I am a General Contractor and use lots of painters. I have used Cliff's Professional Painting a couple of times the last few years and I have been very pleased. Most painters quote a cheap lo quality paint unless you specify exactly what you want, but Cliff clarifies what he is quoting and how he will approach the job. Cliff's crews spend time to truely prep the job properly before painting, a trait that is not really followed by alot of painters. They always clean the job site when complete and respond to any calls for touch up or corrections. I have had painters paint exterior surfaces without caulking fasteners or joints, I have had interior trim surfaces painted with no sanding when it has been obvious that sanding was needed. As a GC I am required to complete the job properly and to meet the customer expectations. When a contractor does a poor job, does not make corrections and does not stand by their work it cost me the GC $ to make it right. It is nice to find a painter that approaches the job correctly, responds to my questions and call backs and doesn't try to dodge issues. He knows how to paint properly and doesn't try fill you full of bull like a lot other contractors I've experienced. Cliff and his crew aren't perfect, No one is, and when there is minor issues, Cliff has always responded and bent over backwards to meet the customers expectations, even when they may not have merit, be incorrect or extreme.
