I DO NOT recommend Cliffs auto repair on FM 529. I went for an oil change only because my regular mechanic and my schedule couldn't work out right then, and then Cliffs showed me a picture on a screen supposedly my car needing a front engine cover gasket, an engine timing cover gasket, a water pump, engine valve cover gasket, and an engine intake manifold gaskets set to the tune of $2641.06. Also told me that there was no oil on the dipstick when they checked it before the oil change. In addition I asked to have my tires rotated and aired, but they did not put air in my tires, so I'm not really sure that they actually rotated my tires... I did not have the additional work done because I have not seen any oil leaking in my car, my oil light has not come on, and no overheating that would warrant a water pump. I decided to go to my regular mechanic who has always been upfront and honest to look at my car. He looked under the hood WITH me, no signs of leaking anywhere!!!! Very little dried oil which is normal for my older car, no fresh oil leaking anywhere!!! Please beware of scams like this.. there's lots of good mechanics out there, please go where you know you can trust them. read more

Been here several times now for various jobs and have been very happy every time. They are a friendly, honest and professional shop. One of the major things that stands out about this particular shop is this: People dread when going to a mechanic is being sold or scared into getting work done that is not needed, or at least not needed now. This place just does not do that. I'm reasonably mechanically savvy, not a mechanic by any means, or even close, but I have a basic knowledge of how things work. So, someone might argue that they just look elsewhere for easier pickings. BUT no. Sometimes I will wait while I have work done, so I hear them interacting with other customers over the course of an hour or so. And I hear them doing the same thing, they will tell folks that "actually no, that $$$ part is not the issue, it's just this $ part", or that "You are still good for another x thousand miles, no need to do that yet". That's just one thing that makes this shop stand out. But I thought it worth mentioning as that one thing is what makes people afraid of repair shops. No need worry about that here. Not only will I go anywhere else now for those jobs that I don't want to do myself, but I would have no issue sending any friend or family member of mine to them. read more

Pros: Cheap oil change. Staff acknowledged their shortcomings. Cons: I had a preset appointment at 10 am for an oil change that was completely pointless to schedule. I had to call in at 12:20 to request an updated, and to also again request they let me know if I needed new filters/fluids flushed. I was told my car was about to be pulled in to be worked on, and it would be ready in 30-45 minutes. I requested a call about the filters and fluids and was told I'd get one shortly. No call, I called again at 2:20 and the owner answered. After I requested a status updated I was transferred the the gentleman is spoke with earlier and was told the same thing, that my car was now being pulled in to be worked on. Again I requested a call about the filters/fluids and was told I'd get one. No call, so I drove in to pick up. When I got there my car was being pulled out of the bay, and the gentleman at the front was nice. I mentioned the 4+ hour wait and he apologized as they were short staffed. I appreciate that, but a 10am appointment for an oil change where I picked up at around 3pm doesn't sit well with me with no notice of any reason for delays. 10am oil change appointment appointment with clear cut expectations of additional minor diagnostics.... Dishonest and dangerous! After purchasing a vehicle for my son in Houston I was experiencing a very soft brake pedal and took it to Cliff's. I told them to check it out and maybe the system needed bleeding or maybe the brake fluid was "goofy". They instead wrote "goopy brake fluid" on the ticket. This predisposed the technician (not certified) to diagnose the problem as bad brake fluid and all brake lines needed to be replaced along with the master cylinder. $1700 later they finished the job right at closing and my son drove the car home. He immediately informed me that the vehicle was not able to stop at highway speeds and the pedal still went to the floor. Since it was now after Cliff's had closed we decided to take the vehicle to a Honda dealership the next day. The Honda service advisor chuckled at Cliff's diagnosis and they said the master cylinder was bad and the one on it was NOT replaced by Cliff's. Further they stated that these parts have been on National backorder and are unavailable anywhere. They also stated that only the rubber ends of the brake lines were replaced, not the entire line that I was charged for by Cliff's. I even found out where Cliff's gets their auto parts down the street and called them. They told me they did not send them a master cylinder, only the brake line tips. I contacted Jeff at Cliff's and sent the documentation from Honda and they won't return my calls, emails or texts. They just went dark. I'm filing charges with Harris County Sheriff's office and taking them to small claims. They completely ripped me off and not only that, let a very unsafe vehicle leave the shop. I HIGHLY recommend that you don't trust them with even an oil change. A one star rating is too high for them. See attached picture for receipts! read more

I really hate to have to leave this review. I've gone to Cliff's for various things on and off through the years with no issues. Multiple cars no issue. But today I was disrespected in the most disgusting way by Candice. I had my vehicle towed there on yesterday to have a water pump replaced. I called in advance as I was told to ensure the part would be ready. Had the truck towed there for repair. Something that was suppose to take no more than 6hrs (est.) There were no calls to update me on status or anything. The evening rolls around and I get no call. I didn't complain I just assumed more work needed to be done. Jeff told me before bringing in my truck they would call if there were issues. Today rollls around and still hadn't received a call. I called this morning for Candice to advise she was supposed to call me yesterday and forgot. Something about they ordered the wrong pump. She said they got the right one the tech would be in shortly and the truck would be done soon. She said she'd call when it was done. That was at 8:30am. 3pm rolls around and I haven't heard anything not a status update or anything. I call thinking they close at 5. Candice picks up and I ask for the status on the Tiguan ... She tells me hold on and proceeds to yell "can you give status on the Tiguan, I'm so f*cking tired of her and then the phone hangs up. I guess she was tired of me calling ... But I'd only called once today and twice yesterday ... Once to let them know the truck was being towed there and once to confirm the truck arrived. Not once was I rude or disrespectful. She calls right back and says "sorry Ms Jones I think the phone hung up" ... I told her "No you hung up right after saying you were so effin tired of me calling I guess?!" Now she begins apologizing and wanting me to excuse her unprofessionalism. I've talked with Cliff and Terri for years and never have they spoke to me that way. I am paying customer who was never rude or even snippy. I didn't complain once. And that's the treatment received. She said she never talks that way and she doesn't know why she said it. Well you said it because you talk that way. Apparently she was stressed. Well so am I having to pay over $1400 for a water pump but that doesn't give me a right to talk crazy to anyone. They gave me 20% off the invoice which had increased from what I was quoted (and not advised about). But Jeff fixed it at my persistence. They gave me 2 free oil change cards but I will not be returning. I'm glad my car is fixed and has no issues but I am highly disappointed in the way I was spoke to/about by Candice. She didn't even have the decency to apologize in person. What a cowardly act. Please have Terri show Candice the PROPER way to handle customers. And if all else fails make sure you hang the phone up before talking crap about your customers. UNACCEPTABLE. I gave it 1 star because the ppl who worked on my car deserve something otherwise it would be a ZERO. Update: Had to go back unfortunately because the vehicle was still "leaking fluid." Somehow they missed a leaking hose. At this point I felt totally taken advantage of. I do not trust what they said. They basically figured out a way to get back the money they took off the other invoice due her cussing at me. At one point it was a slow leak and it was safe to drive home and monitor. Minutes later it was no longer safe to drive and "pouring out." I prayed to GOD that the work was done correctly. It was another entire fiasco. But I will NEVER go back there. The loaner cars are dirty. They do not call and keep you informed as they promise. The timeframes are never accurate. This was a disaster. If I could take the one star away I would. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. They may be more affordable but you pay the difference in lack of service and integrity. I don't know if Cliff and Terri work at a different location but if so GO TO THAT ONE. This location is a joke. So disheartening. read more

I needed a new, hopefully honest and reasonable car repair shop in the area as my old one just wasn't cutting it. After some research online I came across Cliffs! Their great reviews about being treated fairly and "like family" was really what brought me in. I wanted to believe in a car repair shop again. Not everyone is out to bleed you dry. My car had been having some really rough muffler sounds that escalated over time .. so I brought it into Cliff himself (sweetest nicest man ever!) and he referred me to another shop that handles mufflers since my issue was a small one. Cliff could have handled it there but the OEM repair would have been too expensive and unreasonable when I can just get a quick weld job at a nearby muffler shop. Cliff did not charge me a dime for that first visit, to check my car or anything!! Wow! I was very grateful to him and vowed to return business again. The following week I returned my car to get some Maint eve work done, tune up, etc. and it was just as pleasant! Shanna helped me in setting up a loaner while my car was in the shop and they were even faster than what originally thought! She is very sweet to deal with and super nice. Seems like everyone here are just good people. I don't know about you but if there's anything I would wish for is doing business with good people like this!! Gosh , what a difference honest reasonable car repair and friendly helpful service can be . Car repairs can be so costly .I recently found out the hard way when I took my T bird in to Christian Brothers for repair. As soon as you get thru the door they charge you for a diagnostic fee for everything . after I spend thousands of dollars within a few days the car still was not working right . Then all of a sudden my power steering went out. They wanted more thousands to fix it and then didn't want to do the work .I had used then for all my cars before . I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO CHRISTIAN BROTHER"S AGAIN! Cliff's Auto repair treated me with respect and tried to help me get the car repaired . I'm retired and living on a retirement budget so when we are talking thousands and more thousand to get it fixed I was sick. Cliff came to my rescue and fixed the power steering in several days instead of weeks . Yes ,it cost a lot to fix but then the owner tried something less expensive to make the light go out in the car . Thank you for that . I truly believe the lord lead me to this place because I had been thru the ringer with Christian Brothers . NO COMMUNICATION WHATSOEVER. My wife got her car fixed a while back which everything seems alright (besides the fact that they almost forgot to change her oil) even though it was paid for it had to be reminded. Fast forward since the first service was okay we decided to give cliff another try. For a simple oil change, Dropped the car off promptly around 7:45-8 mind you for a OIL CHANGE. Got a call maybe around 11 that the hood was not able to be opened. (Fine I told the mechanic if your not able to get it open I would stop by and open the hood) never got a call again until my wife decided to follow up and CHECK around 3:30 which was then advised. We still can't get your hood open no one called you? UM NO? Or we would of showed up 5 hours ago. Fast forward show up to open the hood and the latch to open the hood WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN. I mean completely. The hood gets opened twice a year just fine but at this point it was completely broken. Meaning a mechanic was WAY TO ROUGH ON THE HANDLE and it popped off. To fix it, oh it's $500 + to fix the latch THAT WE DID NOT BREAK. The lack of communication and breaking something from your car and than just OH this is how much it is to fix it. Got me completely F up. You would of thought they would be compassionate about breaking something on your car but the lack of apologies I didn't even receive one. f you want to fix what's right you know my number but other than that I'm VERY VERY disappointed in the lack of communication and the disrespect to my own stuff. read more

Cliff's Car Tech came highly recommended to me and as I need a car repair for one of my many cars, I decided to check them out. Since the car did not run, I had to have AAA tow it there. I had Jaime that helped me from start to finish. He informed me of a $99 diagnostic fee and afterward he told me what the problem was. He gave me an estimate to do that part of the work and afterwards we found out there was another issue that came up. He worked with me as the part in question was purchased a few months a go and he told me it should be under warranty and to return it for another. After reinstalling the new part he was able to get the car running, he suggested another service to make sure that it ran better and I agreed. Next I was looking to get a pair of struts installed and I told him I had already purchased a set and could he use them. He informed me he could not as they didn't install parts not obtained through them. Well I guess I can sell them on eBay and recoup some of my money. So the first price he gave me was way more than I wanted to spend as this is an older car that I plan on selling. I asked for him to research the parts for a cheaper price. He was able to do so and we agreed on a price including installation. A few days after I dropped the car off here it was ready and it drives very well after the repairs. I would probably due business there in the future but always check prices before agreeing. I found that you should always ask if you can get a better price as the repair shops usually qoute you the "best" price. read more

I went by Cliff's for a second opinion on a very expensive quote I received from another mechanic. He was recommended to me on my neighborhood Facebook page. I was prepared for the worst and not looking forward to his assessment. After examining my vehicle, Cliff's diagnosis of the issue was exactly the same, however instead of telling me it was an urgent expensive repair that needed to be done immediately, he explained it would not cause any further damage and did not need to be done right now. Its very hard to find a good mechanic; even harder to find an honest one. He gained a loyal customer in me. I'll definitely go back to him for all future issues with my vehicle. read more

I found Cliff's Car Tech on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I will be going back. Initially, they let me know there was a charge for a specific diagnostic. They determined it was just a bent pipe and they straightened it out. They fixed it right away and then let me know they would NOT be charging for the diagnostic. Brought my 14-year old Toyota here as the engine light was on. I made an appointment online thru their website and got an e-mail acknowledgement and informed about the $99 diagnostic fee. I thought this was kind of steep at first as I was used to going to another shop that didn't charge a fee. However, the other shop has not been able to fix an irritating issue so I decided to try Cliff's. First impressions...waiting area was ok. Had coffee and free wifi. You could also drop your keys into a slot (label them). They opened at 7:30 which is late for most people who have to get to work but they were there at opening time. Estimates were reasonable compared to Repairpal estimates. They also warrantied the work for 3 years. After receiving the estimates by phone, I went ahead and authorized them to do the work. This was a Friday. Unfortunately, when I went to pick up the car and did a test drive, the engine light came back on, so I drove it back. They were apologetic and offered to loan me a car for the weekend and promised to have mine ready on Monday. That was unexpected and a really nice gesture. When I picked up my car Monday, all was well. Next I had them do some overdue maintenance work. We were about to go on a road trip and I wanted to make sure the car was in decent shape. Much to my delight, they fixed a nagging noise issue with my vehicle that my old shop was not able to (or did not bother) to fix! Finally, I had a new issue come up after I brought the car home...so back to the shop. This time, Cliff offered to do the work for free as long as I paid for the parts. He said that we've brought him enough business in the last month and he wanted us to be happy! Another unexpected gesture! Overall, I can say with confidence that I will be returning to Cliff's for future car repair needs. I waited a while to write this review to see if the repairs would hold up. So far, so good. Small family owned and operated Car shop in cypress. The shop is run by cliff and his hilarious wife Teri. She's really friendly and can strike up a conversation with anyone. I had never heard of this place until my sister told me about it, but if I ever have anything wrong with my car I'd definitely bring it here. I came here with my sister to get a flat tire patched and they did it really quickly, no appointment or anything. They also charge really reasonable prices for their services, a lot less than what major chain car shops would charge. My car was having trouble a few months ago and I called Cliff's and they told me almost immediately that it wasn't my starter or my alternator which is what I had originally assumed since my battery wasn't super old. Teri was able to do it all over the phone and saved me the tow service to get it diagnosed. They're a super friendly couple who run a great business and aren't out there trying to scam you and create false problems in the hopes that you'll fall for it and spend more. They're not the cheapest. They're not the most expensive. They ARE the best. I have had both my wife's van, and my Pontiac in there a couple of times. The have always fixed it right the first time. They have a lifetime warranty on parts and labor, but I haven't had to use it, because they know what they are doing, and as I found out later, only use dealer parts. The owner Cliff, oversees every project personally, and really cares about each car. He is not some absentee owner who couldn't care less. I have met him several times, and has always been very concerned. Every time I have taken a vehicle there, I get a follow up call within a week or two. Moved the the area recently and needed a trusty mechanic. This place is honest and they do great work! Got an AC last year and this year an alternator. After the alternator my engine ran hot and I thought I would need a new radiator. Took it back but they had accidentally unplugged a fan during alternator repair so they were honest about the mistake and didn't charge me for the diagnostic. Not every day you find mechanics so honest they are willing to admit their mistakes and make it right. I have been coming here for a number of years now (though not very often) and I swear my own family doesn't treat me this well. Understand if you speak with me Cliff, he may come off as a little rough around the edges, but it's just because he doesn't play games. He doesn't sugarcoat, beat around the bush or bullshit. He gives it to you straight, blunt, and honest. I brought my car in today because the brakes have been squeaking in the mornings, they got it in right away since there was an empty bay, pulled it apart saw everything was in great shape, told me he could get rid of the squeaking if I wanted to pay for machining the rotors, but there is no reason for it unless the squeaking just bothers me that much...well, it doesn't. So they put it back together and sent me on my way no charge. Cliff's is not about getting every dollar he can squeeze out of you, he Is about solving your automotive problems and getting you back on the road. I had an emergency repair and Cliff treated me very well. He accepted the car from the tow truck driver and within 60 minutes had called and told me what I needed to get fixed. His estimate was right on, and in fact he has a policy that if the repair costs more then the estimate you approve, they pay the difference. The car was ready that afternoon, even though I told him that I wouldn't be able to get it until the next day. The next morning, when I went to pick up my car, the systems were down due to a storm. Cliff was very kind and allowed me to take my car without paying, with the promise to pay over the phone once they got things up and running. He provided me written estimates of other work that needed to be done, and gave me an honest time frame of when it needs to happen Later, a quick lube place turned me away due to my car making a noise. Cliff quickly changed my oil for less and had me on my way. Will definitely be taking my car there again. read more

To make a long story short -my old trusted mechanic decided to go the way of the sheisty mechanics that are out there and placed the wrong fuel pump in my car. I used him for years, and I'm pretty sharp at reading the BS and had enough car issues that I'm savvy enough to know when it makes sense. In fact, there were times when he saved me money. Anyway, the ol'mechanic changed, and I guess he wanted that ol'engine light to bring me back. He placed a fuel pump in that left my fuel pump sensor with nowhere to go but to get zip-tied off. That's right, zip-tied. I didn't know this yet so due to me trying to get rid of my engine light as soon as possible (my old mechanic is across town) I went to Cliff's Car Tech. This is where I was shown the problem. This mistake was such a bad one -not even a newby mechanic would make it. It doesn't matter, Cliff took real good care of me. The man and his shop are honest people. He showed me the problem, explained and showed me the cost of the part. To top it off, he is only 5 minutes away from me. No need to go across town, no need to worry about sheisty mechanics -and if you get a chance to have a conversation with him -you'll see what I mean by a good man that's not there to give you the shaft -just the truth. I feel real comfortable with Cliff. I'm a computer tech that lives in Cypress but works at the medical center. I don't need the BS. Just the skinny, please. Anyway, ladies and gentlemen -we have an honest to goodness ASE Certified Master Technician right here in Cypress, Texas who guarantees his work for 3 years. Okay, so we're back here again with another vehicle. Never in my life have I dealt with such honest people. Cliff isn't afraid to tell it exactly like it is. He wasn't trying to sugar coat things, but he's willing to hear us out and help us make good decisions on this repair. As for the office, I adore Teri.
