I really enjoyed the character of this restaurant inside. I learned it used to be a Citizen's Bank prior to being Clementine's. We spent a very rainy summer weekend in South Haven, during which we visited Clementine's. This particular Saturday evening was the one night out of four in a row where there was a break in the monsoons, so it felt like EVERYONE in town was in the village walking around or having dinner. Clementine's was packed and very loud. Our table of six had a hard time hearing each other without yelling. However, our dinners and service was excellent. I ordered an appetizer of shrimp that was very akin to bang bang shrimp that you can get at other restaurants. It wasn't too spicy, although I think I would have enjoyed more "bang." Most of the food in the menu seemed to be pretty traditional bar food fare with a higher price tag. Still, we had a decent meal and good service. read more

I met a friend that I had not seen in a while for lunch on a Thursday. Food was pretty good and service was great. After we paid our bill all service stopped and no one checked on us. Someone who looked like the manager or owner walked by a few times and gave us a funny look. Then she came up and said can I get you anything else. When we said no she looked at her watch and said well we are very busy so .... We were both taken aback and surprised. I guess clementines in South Haven is not the place to go if you want to meet a friend and sit there and talk for an extended period of time. Drove 3 hrs to get food and eat by bay. Was told no carry outs due to staffing but they'll sit you ??? If it's because of afraid of no tips, I tip for carry outs too! I've been to Clementines a few times now and I really like the place. I usually only ever get burgers there but I had a cheeseburger at lunch today and wasn't feeling it for a second meal in a row, so I got the perch sandwich instead. Oh, and I got a six inch onion ring order because I always do that. They have amazing onion rings that can't be passed up. The fish sandwich was just ok. Next time, though, I'll go back to the tired and true burger fare. Or branch out into a full fledged dinner of some sort. We'll see. Every time I've dined here I've been alone and I get seated really quickly and have had excellent service each time. There's a lot of reviews here of people complaining about waiting to be seated or having bad service but then I see they have like a party of 8 and arrived right at the heart of dinner time. Of course you're going to have to wait to be seated and you probably won't have as good of service as you normally would: It's the dinner rush! Chill out and order some onion rings and learn a little thing called "patience." read more

Go earlier than you expect to eat , there are long wait times. To be expected as , it is a tourist town. They took my phone number and text us when they were ready for us. We walked and shopped while we waited. Once we were seated everything we ordered was absolutely fantastic. The appetizer portion sizes are huge, we got the mushrooms and they were amazing. Saw a few people getting the onion rings and wished we had tried those also. French onion soup is a must. Went to Waterviliet to pick up plant and decided to visit Clementines in SH. Haven't been for years. Apparently to they moved to this spot. They used to be down the street. Been that long. We had burgers and french onion soup and really liked them. Just water for drinks. Burgers were crispy outside and pink inside. Server Joe was very good too. Great place. read more

I called from Nashville, TN to see if my family could reserve a section of the restaurant for a family reunion in August. Have a couple aunts and uncles who are in their 80s, coming from PA and we want to get together one last time. The person answering the phone was clueless. Put me on hold and then said they couldn't accommodate. I asked if he had a manager I could talk to. On hold again. Then someone came on the phone, said hello, and before I could utter a word, hung up on me. I called back 5 times and they wouldn't pick up the phone. I've gone to this establishment many times over the last 10 years and the quality of food and cocktails has gone down drastically. My husband and I had the worst mojito we've had in our life but it is unexcusable to give 3 of my employees food poisoning. This is a warning for anyone considering going to Clementines June 2023 and forward. It was specifically the shrimp, crab and hamburger that ruined the last 2 days of a vacation that my employees have been working for since the beginning of COVID. This trip was supposed to be a thank you to for all their hard work and sacrifice, to show our staff that they are appreciated and what they got was vomiting for 2 days. Unacceptable. This is a South Haven legend. If you are visiting, you must stop here for a bite. Be aware of a long line during peak times though - the wait can be astronomical, then be prepared to wait some more... You get the idea. Call ahead or send someone ahead of the group to start your wait time. When we went this past summer, the kitchen seemed to take a long time even after we were seated and had ordered. I hope they figure this out soon. They have a large selection to choose from on their menu along with a nice cocktail, beer, and wine menu. The onion rings are delicious and you have to try them at least once in your lifetime. The building is in an old bank and is a nice historic South Haven building with unique architecture. I wouldn't say there are many healthy options. The things they have are delicious and most likely will be fried or a heavy meal. They also give you large portions no matter what you order. My family vacations in South Haven at least once a summer and this is always a must-visit place for dinner. This has definitely become a tradition for us to visit. read more

Got the pretzel bun burger, the honey mustard on it was really good! We also got onion rings as an appetizer, they were very good. The batter was really think and tasted great. The perch was not great though. The sandwich hardly came with any on it and what was on it was not very tasty. The service was okay, not the worst but not the best either. read more

Again, passing though on business and although there was a wait for the dining room, I was able to sit immediately at the bar. I had the fried pepper-jack cheese wedges and a ribeye steak. The steak was cooked to my perfection with a delicious taste. The pepper jack was an awesome switch from from mozzarella or cheese curds. While on a day trip with my children. My daughter (16) chose clemintines as she loved the aesthetic. On arrival we entered the beautiful establishment to stand and wait for five minutes before a woman came to the front. we told her we would like to be suited for two adults and an infant. She told us they closed in two hours, and would not be able to accommodate us this evening. After leaving, we watched numerous patrons, enter and be seated well on the website it says they are not excepting reservations. As I recently told my dining companion, Clementine's is not one I would "write home about", but if you just want a standard American-fare meal, it's an okay place to eat. We stopped by on a Sunday late afternoon and I mentioned while we were walking towards the front entrance that if we have to wait, we'll go someplace else. But we were in luck and were seated right away. Our server was very prompt and attentive. I ordered the French Onion Soup and small Caesar salad and a glass of Riesling. D had the French Onion Soup and the Dingy Basket (chicken fingers) and a Brandy Alexander. French Onion Soup is my absolute favorite of all soups. But Clementine's fell flat as they use mozzarella instead of the delicious Gruyere cheese. My Caesar salad was fine; although I didn't realize they add pasta to it. D's said his Dingy Basket was okay. Clementine's is a tourist destination for anyone visiting South Haven. The restaurant is popular and the wait time can be long during the summer season. It's a great restaurant for families, but if you are looking for an extra special dinner, you might be disappointment. read more

Dreadful sorry, Clementine's, but this was not a great dining experience. I'd eaten here once before, when visiting Bridgman, MI, and it was pretty good, but this visit was downhill since then (about a year later). For one thing, we waited about 45 minutes for a table; rarely does that even happen to me in Chicago! We were getting ready to pack it in when our pager finally went off. They're apparently known for the "Mess of Perch," so I went with that, but I wasn't thrilled. The small pieces of fish had a breadcrumb-type breading that was very salty. Ditto for the French Onion Soup that came on the side -- I wondered if it was made with seawater! I also ordered a tossed salad with the Sweet Onion dressing and enjoyed that. One of the other diners in my party ordered "The James Gang" -- TEN butterflied, fried shrimp, but she only got nine. When she pointed it out to the waitress, the waitress said, "Did you want another one?" I recognize that it was busy and maybe she was hoping not to have to make an extra trip to the back, but really, that's what was advertised. Check it before it leaves the kitchen. Overall, the next time I'm in SW Michigan I'll look elsewhere for dinner based on this experience. Clementine's touch may be "lost and gone forever" in my estimation. read more

I've been going to both their locations, for the past 20 years. Last night, my wife and I dined at this location (South Haven). The other location is in St. Joseph, MI. Crowded as usual, a 45 minute wait. Why is Clementine's almost always crowded ! This Town is loaded with restaurants, that serve BAR FOOD. Clementine's falls a bit short, of serving bar food .... but dosen't miss by much. They have reasonable prices .... not true for most of the other restaurants, in Town. Here you can get "The Gunslinger", a steak dinner for $10.95. Many of the sandwich offerings are in the $7 to $9 range. Twice this Summer, we've been disappointed with the Onion Rings. Have they changed the type of oil, they're deep fried in ? Or, maybe they've have a new batter receipe ? Or, they've fiddled with both. CLEMENTINE'S MANAGEMENT the onion rings are not the same. Why ? Has for the "Gunslinger", this steak now tastes like the steaks at Texas Corral, Logan's Roadhouse, Golden Corral, ETC. The steak has been going downhill now, for the past couple of years. CLEMENTINE'S MANAGEMENT its time to increase the price on the Gunslinger, too improve its quality. Some people, I've spoken to share my views. Now we'll see if Yelpers at large agree. I met up with a friend here for dinner on a Friday night (9/20/13). The place is HUGE - I wasn't expecting such a big place. We waited about 20 minutes and we got there at 5:30pm. The decor is kind of kitschy - lots of exposed brick and high ceilings, but then there'd be some fake plants and country odds and ends. I'm guessing that they're not going for "best designer" award. We had the VIP Bloody Marys. SO GOOD. Comes loaded with veggies, which I love. I have made many trips up to Wisconsin and for some reason, I cannot for the life of me get any perch or walleye. I opened the menu and my eyes went right to "mess o' perch." DONE DEAL. I'm from the Chicago area, and our Friday Night Fish Frys are always coated in heavy beer batter and they come out still coated in oil. The fish inside seems to shrink into a small bite and you're stuck with all this greasy breading. NOT SO at Clementine's!!! Finally - lightly breaded and lightly pan fried!!! just like my family used to make!! The perch was cooked so perfectly - it was moist and falling off my fork. They give you about 10 small pieces. You get a choice of potato. The breading is lightly seasoned and does not overwhelm the fish at all. I was in heaven!! If I'm in the area again, I'd like to try the walleye. But, oh that perch....totally worth it! My friend had a pasta dish (forgot which) and she said it was good. The rest of the menu looked like a diner menu. I don't think I'd come here for anything but booze and local fish. Everything's very reasonably-priced. Seriously, Clementine's, DO NOT CHANGE THAT RECIPE!!! read more

Food is great. Came super quickly. Ambiance is perfect for the place. Service is very poor. Waitress looked like she hated the place (quit). HOST: Came here with family, mom wanted to sit in a booth by the window because it's dark inside (not dingy dark, just dark). The worst little blonde teenage host dude sat us. Full of attitude. When I asked if we can sit by the window and proceeded there because, well, there is was room and people sat in the area, he followed us like he was doing us a huge favor and threw the menus on the table with a diva-like attitude. Holy guacamole. What a little drama queen. My mom and I smiled at each other awkwardly because this was an awkward situation. First experience of this sort ever.
