I've never been so disappointed with a highly recommended restaurant in a town we were excited to visit. We were treated almost inhumanely. From our entry, we were treated rudely by the hostess, Kaitlyn. Then the bartender accelerated the same behavior. A member of our group tripped on the stairs and he was accused of being drunk. He has a mild disability and has difficulty with stairs. We were unable to stay after this incredibly rude behavior. We might give South Haven another try, but NEVER this restaurant. Nasty. Found a baby roach in my salad. Yes, I lived in the south for many years and know what a roach looks like. It was a roach. Waitress didn't give a shit. Seemed annoyed that I even told her about it. All three of us got sick. Steak was nasty. Texas toast that I seriously think was the kind you can buy at the grocery store. Croutons not homemade. Bleu cheese dressing you'd expect to get at McDonald's. Location location location, I guess. Long wait for shit food. They comped my salad. No one is a Karen in my family and we almost didn't say anything but then I thought: I couldn't eat the salad - why should I pay for it. Well, a day later and we are all sick. Come at least annually and sometimes multiple times to south Haven and always enjoy clementines. Just like everyone right now they're experiencing staff shortages so the service isn't as quick as it used to be. The second time I stopped in this stay I actually sat without anyone even greeting me for at least 10 minutes. Unheard of in the past. So I just skipped drinks and ordered right there when I was finally seen. Tried their crazy grilled cheese and it was spectacular! Hubby had the lake perch which was awesome. So the world has to just cut everyone some slack right now, and you'll be rewarded. read more

We were driving through South Haven and needed a quick bite to eat. The Main Street has lots of shops and restaurants but we wanted something a little more up scale than your standard sandwich shop. After walking past we decided on Clementine's. It looked like such a cute old school building so we decided on it! I came with my mom and we're both vegetarians. The menu isn't super vegetarian friendly so we both ended up with the only veggie sandwich, the South Beach Grill. Overall the sandwich was really good! I don't know if I would have thought to pair fontina, apples, fig jam and greens all on one sandwich. However it was surprisingly good! Overall Clementine's was a good experience! The waitress was quick and friendly. I'd definitely recommend stopping in if you're out shopping and in the need for food. read more

We've been here 2-3 times before, and came here for a late lunch with a friend. It was a chilly early spring day, so there was not the usual wait. We got a nice booth by the window, and prompt service. Our friend and my wife ordered the fried lake perch while I had the baked onion soup & Caesar salad. The perch came with cheesy toast, a baked potato & cole slaw (two of several sides you can choose). The perch was so-so, and my salad unremarkable. The onion soup was very good & came with a very good roll. We saw someone else's order of a stack of onion rings that looked excellent. We were in South Haven for a wedding a couple weeks ago. A couple of us went to Clementines Saturday morning for bloody Mary's and some college football. Let me just start off by saying that I love this place and will continue to come. The best wings that honestly had me drooling and the ranch is heaven. The kind Blonde server Danielle was super nice and did not rush us. (Thank you so much Danielle) The vibe of the place was kind of country but I love the song choices! ( Mitski, Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor and lots of others I can't think on the top of my head.) The food came earlier than expected which isn't a surprise because we came on a slow day but there's fast service most of the time I come. This is definitely a South Haven staple and so therefore you must go:) I like Clementine's, but I rarely ever go during busy season. It's just too bananas. The place is spectacular and fun just to be inside the building. The vintage décor and beautiful tin ceiling are worth the trip alone. During the holidays is my favorite time to visit! They hang the most beautiful snowflakes all over the ceiling! Anyway, to the food. Super solid place to get a good meal. My favorites here are the steaks, seafood, and the Thai pasta (so random, but so good!) They are also famous for their onion rings so give those a try for sure! I have experienced life altering moments at Clementine's. I have witnessed marriage proposals. I have seen couples announce their breakup. And, most recently, I learned how to tell a priest that he's celebrated too much and we needed to drive him home. The couple whose wedding we just attended decided to forgo the traditional reception at a huge rental hall and instead had the wedding party, about ten of us, accompany them to Clementine's for dinner. We were, strictly speaking, not in the wedding party but were their baby girl's recently anointed godparents, so we were included. If there is a single restaurant in Van Buren County that might be viewed as iconic, it is Clementine's. Going to Clementine's, whether you are a local or a tourist, is a must if you step inside the city limits of South Haven. Clementine's is where the couple first met, and where he later asked her that quintessential question, "Will you lie in the same grave with me?" (I guess he said to himself, "If I'm going to propose then I'll do it in a gloriously macabre way.") Having eaten at Clementine's a couple dozen times, I have found the restaurant does some things well and other things not so well. I want to have a high probability of leaving happy and content, so I tend to stick with stacks of onion rings, burgers and fries, the French Onion soup, and salads. My girl, more of a gambler than I, tends to order seafood, and her experience has been that it's a coin flip: one time the dish can be heavenly, and the next time it'll be uninspired drek. She suspects that most of the seafood is frozen GFS product - not a dealbreaker for her - and that the hang up is how the kitchen prepares it. She would, as an example, point to the butterflied shrimp, which have, on occasion, been served to her looking like the shrimp had been nuked out of existence. Service, we have found, is generally very good. In the summer, with the influx of tourists, the restaurant can be quite busy. The alcohol offerings are serviceable. read more

A pretty good place for American style food. Usually I tend to stray away from American food as it's mostly fried and covered in oil/butter but this place has a little something for everyone. I loved the chilled shrimp appetizer and the onion rings. The onion rings were not too salty and big. The only complaint I have is that I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out rare. My wife and I drive up from Indianapolis Indiana to South Haven Michigan each year for our Anniversary in October. We were looking for a good place to eat... And this fit the bill!! Loved the appetizer's "fried zucchini" and the "beer battered onion rings"!!! I ordered the ribeye steak with garlic butter sauce for dinner and it was perfect!!! My wife had the chicken fingers for dinner and again, perfect breading (kind of like the beer batter on the onion rings) with a great taste!!! But, the highlight of our visit, was Blake our waiter... He was fantastic!!! The guy never stopped... He was running around, helping six different tables in our area, and he never made us wait for anything... Excellent service!!! Very cool old building, a very nice bar, amazing onion rings, a solid kids menu, and great prices. The only negative is the slightly long wait time for a table. Put your name in early, walk around downtown, and you will be glad you did. Tourist season means 1 hour waits for tables everywhere in South Haven, but Clementines has great service even when busy. read more

The bartender who took my order was very friendly and welcoming, she could tell I was uncomfortable waiting inside so she offered to call me when my order was ready. There were several dining experiences that I had during my stay in Michigan and this one ranks at the bottom. The service was terrible. We had a party of 7 and after getting our drinks to us and getting our order the waitress seemed to actively ignore our table. Every single person's drink sat empty for a good 15 minutes as she took care of other tables and did not make a glance towards ours. The food was just ok. Their web address says it all "ohmydarling.com"! Their decor was cool and interesting. It's like being outside but inside. Neat place to dine and a must to check out when you are in New Haven. The wait was over an hour long to get into this place but it was well worth it. Especially when you and group of 5 others have been strolling up and down the beaches of New Haven, sweating in the sun, dehydrated and hungry. This restaurant was probably my favorite food stop of our entire road trip to MI. And I need to say this and really emphasized that I LOVED LOVED their mussel appetizer dish (New Zealand Green Lip Mussels). I'm a sucker for mussels and I always order it whenever I see it on the menu. I've tried mussels in tomato sauce and other sauces but by far, this is the BEST mussel appetizer dish ever!! Just try it, you would have no idea that spinach could taste this good and especially when it's cooked on mussels. I also ordered a light petite portion of some sort of pasta dish. Forgot what it was called now but it was also good and decent. But by far, if I ever come back to New Haven, I would have to make a stop in for just the mussel & spinach appetizer. Stopped here after the Blue Berry Festival Sunday. I had been here in the early 90's and it still is as good as ever. We had a party of 6, & were truly prepared to wait, but Nay, Nay! The host us sat us right away. Our food was great and the service was excellent. I didn't get her name but we where the Big Round Table in the bar area across from the bathrooms. It was about 2:30pm. I ordered the beer steamed shrimp a loaded baked without bacon, because I DO NOT eat meat, due to a stomach allergy to meat, that came from a Tick called The Lone Star Tick. I get violently ill, from meat, fat from meat & even blood of meat. It truly sucks, because I love meat. I eat seafood and fish only. So that brings me to the only thing that went wrong, is my baked or potato had Bacon on it and my husband's didn't. The waitress was more than happy to go get me another, but my husband and I just switched our potatoes. She asked if we were sure, and we told her it was absolutely fine. However, if the potato had blood over it she would of had to get me a new one. I'm a server so this to me looked like a kitchen error. All I ask is please pay attention to the ticket when they say something, because it is usually for a reason. Stuff happens, I get that completely, but someone could get really sick or even die if it was a nut allergy. Yes I told the waitress I didn't eat meat, so, she knew. I didn't tell her I get sick, but I told her I DO NOT EAT MEAT. That is all she needed to know. But I ordered a potato w/o bacon and he ordered one with. His had none with a steak and mine shad bacon with the shrimp. It's important, I have see people almost die for kitchen errors like this. Please, just be careful. I do know this sucks to have to worry about, especially when you're busy, I get it. We have allergy sheets that we give our expo & if someone tells me something like "I don't eat meat!" I ask is it an allergy, are you a vegetarian. Is there anything I should let the chef know about?". I then get the ticket in the server station write it down, put it in the pos, then go back and discuss it with the expo so he can tell the chef &/or kitchen. That is more than likely not going to have an error or the exop/chef/Line cook can fix it before the food goes out. It covers your ass and it saves on food cost. It also is a great touch and people with food allergies, you will be There Go To Restaurants, because they know you pay attention to detail, and they can trust they won't get sick. It is truly important and a more fail proof process to do it this way. Even if the kitchen doesn't do this, a server can take matters into their own hands and do this by simple writing it down and giving it to the expo and say "This is the allergy & is at this seat & it is also on the printed ticket.". It can be a lot, but I'm telling you people notice this stuff, you will be their go to restaurant and be the requested server, because they feel safe. I worked for LEYE at Reel Club In Oak Brook IL. Under Chef Mychael Bonner (The Creator Of Maggiano's and A Michelin recognized chef and was on a throwdown with Bobby Flay making Eggplant Parmesan.), so I know what I'm talking about. The restaurant concept was all Seafood, Fish, Steaks And Sushi, that catered to a Gluten Free following. Our bread was even Gluten Free called Pão de queijo or Brazilian cheese bread. Our customers had allergies beyond belief and was their Go To place because we took it all very seriously. No matter how busy, this added touch goes a long way. You cannot go wrong at Clementines. There is always a line. It is always worth the wait. We come to S.H. every year and always go to Clementines. The burgers and chicken sandwiches are amazing. Everything on the menu has been outstanding. If nothing else, you must get an order of Onion Rings. They come stacked on a 6 or 12 inch post and are always wonderfully crunchy, just the right amount of breading and perfectly done. They are the best onion rings I have ever had anywhere in the USA hands down. This year, they have done a great job limiting the number of tables to social distance everyone and the staff wear masks. The servers were excellent. I can't say enough good about them. Clementines has also started doing take out so if you have kids and don't want to wait, then you can order ahead. read more

After hearing about it from our friends, we put this at the top of our list for places to eat at. It was a good thing that we went when we did, because we've heard about how long the wait is on a weekend evening and they don't take reservations. We got there around 1 and even though we were told the wait was going to be 20-30 minutes, we were seating in 15 or less. I had my eyes set on the mussels long before we arrived, but the French Onion soup was simply too enticing and the Oh My Darling sandwich started calling my name, too. I'm so glad everything turned out to be wonderful. My husband and I agreed we'd have no problems ordering the exact same things again. Unlike some other places, Clementine's has a great French Onion soup. It's not too salty and not too much rosemary, it was just right. Best French Onion soup ever? Probably not, but it certainly beats out a lot of others. Unlike many reviews here, our service was good. Our food came out quickly, our waters were filed, and our waiter was friendly. We had been advised to be prepared to wait, but the wait was a pleasant one. I was able to obtain a beer from the bar, and the decorations and plaques around the building gave us plenty to do for 15 minutes or so. There is seating outside with great people watching (active shopping corner and sidewalks) for those who wish to pass the time that way. We started with the mussels. They were great - the broth was tasty, and there were a good number of mussels in the dish. They put a LOT of spinach in there - we had to let most of it go, because I only want a tiny spoonful of spinach with each mussel. But that wasn't a big deal. My perch sandwich was great! I could have used a slightly more toasted bun, but the star of the dish - the perch - had a delicious light breading on it and tasted amazing coated in lemon and a very light smear of tartar sauce. I'll admit - I stole some of the buttery/wine seafood broth from the mussels appetizer and drizzled it over the sandwich as well for an added punch of decadent deliciousness. Since I wasn't feeling french fries and there was an available alternative, I grabbed a loaded baked potato as my side dish, and it was tasty. Service was good. Clementine's lives up to its reputation as a must-try in South Haven. On my next visit, I'd like to hit it up at dinner time :) read more

My husband and I, upon someone's recommendation and all the reviews that I've read here, ate at this establishment. It is a beautiful restaurant and I enjoyed looking around as we waited for our table. Most restaurants have a bench or two for you to sit on as you await your table but this place had a bench AND a number of high top tables with stools....very nice. Our wait was not very long, especially since it was during lunch on a Sunday. My husband and I ordered and split the following; 6" of onion rings, the Winchester (a burger with sauteed onions and cheese on grilled rye bread), and the Oh My Darling (french bread topped with imitation crab, tomatoes and cheese). The Winchester was to come with fries as the side and the Oh My Darling came with cream of mushroom soup. The onions were (in my opinion) rather greasy and it seemed to me that most of them were made from the thinner rings of onion, rather than the really meaty rings. My husband thought they were great. The Winchester came with French onion soup rather than the fries that were ordered. My husband ate it, namely because our waitress took off right after delivering it and he never had a chance to let her know he didn't order it. My husband liked it and I tried it and liked it too, however it wasn't what was ordered. When our waitress brought our sandwiches, minus the fries, we let her know that she had given us soup that wasn't ordered and not to worry about bringing the fries that were ordered. All she said was "okay" and never apologized for the mistake. That did not go over well with me.....she really wasn't overly friendly, which is too bad because if you're working with the public you should be a bit friendlier. I realize though that some days just aren't as good as others......I hope this was one of those kinds of days for her. The cream of mushroom soup had great flavor, but I honestly feel that it had too many mushrooms........is that even a thing? The Winchester was tasty but the Oh My Darling really didn't cut it for my husband and I. I wish we had ordered something different, but now we know what to not order in the future. The local wait staff are courteous and have handled all of my dinners from 2 to 8 family members with ease. The building is an older building and I enjoy looking at the pictures from times past and the bar area has the most magnificent wood working. The glasses and mirrors were so clean! I had the South Beach Grill, which was fontina cheese and lightly roasted appled with fig jam & greens. It was amazing!!!! For my side I chose the French Onion soup. Mmmmmm. It was very delicious!! Another member of our party had the Claimjumper , which is a grilled chickenbreast topped withcrab, mushrooms & spinach in an alfredo sauce. One member of our group had the butterfly shrimp Which came with clams & mushrooms with melted parmesean cheese over the top. We all tried the topping, which was incredible!!
