Been treated at Frontier Dermatology in Salem for 3 years for recurring skin cancers. The past 2…read moreyears I have been treated solely by Dr Cassidy Johnston who in my opinion is the best of the all the dermatologists I've seen over the years. She also did a MOHS surgery on my face with good results. Dr Johnston is professional, thorough, on time with her appts all while being pleasant and caring.

Why am I not surprised?…read more First up, a bit of review. A few months ago I called to make an appointment at the Woodburn, OR, facility. In doing so, I was very precise in my communication. I said I only wanted to be seen by a licensed dermatologist, not a physician's assistant (PA). I was assured that would be the case. However, after making the drive from Silverton, OR, and then entering the office immediately I noted the sole provider was a PA. I was not at all happy with that circumstance and politely made that known to the front desk receptionist. I then asked to make an appointment at the Salem, OR location, that time with an M.D. Although the Salem facility, I only later discovered, is staffed also by lots of in residence training D.O.'s . The aforesaid Woodburn receptionist, after some time obviously looking at booking schedules in Salem, said I could see on May 18, 2026, a one particular "doctor." I said OK. Too, based upon some earlier health care related experiences, I stated that when the May appointment date approached, I did not want to receive the usual bunch of texted repetitive appointment reminders. The receptionist's response was twofold. One, an affirmation I'd been removed from that text notification list. Two, that consequently thereafter I would be limited to receive one phone call?voice mail reminder. I replied that both actions were OK with me. I then sent emails of complaint, e.g., from within the Frontier Dermatology website. A while later a female representing Frontier Dermatology left me a voice mail apology for the Woodburn experience., I've retained it, but presently am not inclined to waste more of my time listening to it again. Friday, May 15, mid-afternoon. Still never having received the prior promised phone call/voice mail reminder, and understandably not keen on a repeat of the April 2026 experience, I phoned Frontier Dermatology. When I said I'd never received the prior promised phone/voice mail appointment reminder, in part affirming the prior one made had not been rescheduled as is knownto happen. The reps forthcoming response was: "We'd sent you a text. Did you receive it?" In turn, I replied: (1) Before I arranged to skip texts; (2) Regardless, I'd never received one; (3) Nor the April promised phone call?voice mail. Given how thoroughly disgusted by I am by Frontier Dermatology's manifest repeat scheduling-related ineptitude, by voice on that P.M. phone call officially I cancelled the May 18, 2026, 9:20 A M.prior made appointment. I was, subsequent to the aforementioned April 2026 endeavor at the Woodburn location, nonetheless despite my prior declaration last April in Woodburn, scheduled to be seen by a D.O. in residence training!

I tried calling this office 2 weeks ago to confirm an appointment for our family. After 20 minutes of being on hold, I had to hang up to tend to the needs of our severely disabled, legally incapacitated daughter - also a patient of VALLEY VIEW DERMATOLOGY. My spouse tried calling VALLEY VIEW DERMATOLOGY this morning to confirm our family's appointment for tomorrow and was put on hold for a total of "1.5" HOURS over 3 attempts. During that time, no human, or recorded human, came on line to apologize for the wait, give an option to leave a message for a return phone call or anything. Totally frustrated, I decided to send an URGENT email to VALLEY VIEW'S "information" email address that I located on their website. In the subject line of my email, I put "Urgent." I knew this would get someone's attention, and it did. In the body of the email, I stated the details of what we were experiencing when trying to reach the scheduling desk. Within a few minutes, someone emailed me back - didn't bother calling - and asked if they could help me. The person stated in her email that VALLEY VIEW had a "firewall" issue with the phone system today. I immediately emailed back, asking: Did you also have a "firewall" issue 2 weeks ago when I called and was put on hold for 20 minutes and had to hang up to tend to the needs of my medically fragile, disabled daughter? Did you have a "firewall" issue occur 2 months ago when someone left a ONE STAR REVIEW on GOOGLE complaining about not getting anyone to answer the phone at VALLEY VIEW, stating that they were leaving VALLEY VIEW and going elsewhere? While I was sending my email response, someone finally answered the phone after 40 minutes of my hubby being on hold for his "3rd" attempt today to reach someone. My husband explained that he had been on hold forever, and desperately needed to confirm our family's appointment for tomorrow. The person told him that VALLEY VIEW did NOT have us down on the schedule for tomorrow...... We live in Boring and Dr. Swift's office is located in Salem, a one-and-a-half hour drive from our home! Had we just shown up for this appointment tomorrow, because we couldn't reach the office to confirm the appointment, we would have spent a total of 3 HOURS driving there and back for nothing. My spouse asked to speak to the Office Manager and was given her voicemail. He left her a message. A few minutes later, Robin, called me. I explained in no uncertain terms that it was inexcusable that we could not reach anyone to confirm our appointment for tomorrow over a 2 week period. Robin went on to say that their outdated phone system "is on the list" to be replaced this year. Robin said "it takes time to find the right system and not make a mistake, etc." She went on to say, that they replaced their outdated Medical Records System last year, and this year was the phone system.. I explained to Robin that we would NOT stop reporting this massive office failure to their headquarters and others. If VALLEY VIEW does not have a fully functional phone system in place today - and every day during business hours - then all patients should be sent an alert notification letter immediately with an alternative number to call when needing to conduct business. So, as my "first step" in forcing change at VALLEY VIEW DERMATOLOGY, I am going to share the email address as a way to get helped when you have been put on hold for more than 5 minutes: info@valleyviewdermatology.com. If no one responds to your email, call the Office Manager, Robin, at: 503.566.2069.

I have had physician's assistance before in prior areas that I've lived. I've always been able to trust them & their level of expertise. So when I went in for my first experience with Joel James, a physician's assistant, I was immediately happy with the response. He was cordial, professional, and he asked questions as he examined me that showed real depth of understanding of what I might be going through or need. He made appropriate observations that resonated with past observations. The office staff from Morgan at the desk to the assistance in the rooms, were absolutely excellent, friendly, adept in their procedures. They had to do a biopsy. She gave me the routine spiel about what to expect. Then she went for it-- deadening of the area. It was was flawless. I hardly felt it. And even though they had to cauterize it afterwards. Even that first night was a dream. I know it could've gone south by the explanation of the helper. But it did not. I later, was supposed to supply all of the medicines that I was currently on. Which I defty did, but it was not reflected in their portal. I don't like portals. I like balconies on cruise ships, but never a stinking portal. And this was one that I obviously really did not like because I took a lot of time to include all the medicines. But I have to tell you even though I went back within an hour and provided a hard copy of everything that I currently was on, and Morgan put it into the record. Joel called me at about 4:30 and questioned me on the medicines. And he explained beautifully what I needed to do, and what medicines I needed to use, and what I could expect. I am so happy. I made the change to this particular branch. He prescribed specific medications to accommodate the distress areas that I focused on. He listened! He made me feel comfortable with his care, knowledge, and personal communication's skills. He noted what I had said. This is not what I have normally found among many that I have gone to. I would highly recommend this office. I would highly recommend this Physician's Assistant and his office staff. I feel that I have scored highly in this find.
