Been treated at Frontier Dermatology in Salem for 3 years for recurring skin cancers. The past 2 years I have been treated solely by Dr Cassidy Johnston who in my opinion is the best of the all the dermatologists I've seen over the years. Why am I not surprised? First up, a bit of review. A few months ago I called to make an appointment at the Woodburn, OR, facility. In doing so, I was very precise in my communication. I said I only wanted to be seen by a licensed dermatologist, not a physician's assistant (PA). I was assured that would be the case. However, after making the drive from Silverton, OR, and then entering the office immediately I noted the sole provider was a PA. I was not at all happy with that circumstance and politely made that known to the front desk receptionist. I then asked to make an appointment at the Salem, OR location, that time with an M.D. Although the Salem facility, I only later discovered, is staffed also by lots of in residence training D.O.'s . The aforesaid Woodburn receptionist, after some time obviously looking at booking schedules in Salem, said I could see on May 18, 2026, a one particular "doctor." I said OK. Too, based upon some earlier health care related experiences, I stated that when the May appointment date approached, I did not want to receive the usual bunch of texted repetitive appointment reminders. The receptionist's response was twofold. One, an affirmation I'd been removed from that text notification list. Two, that consequently thereafter I would be limited to receive one phone call?voice mail reminder. I replied that both actions were OK with me. I then sent emails of complaint, e.g., from within the Frontier Dermatology website. A while later a female representing Frontier Dermatology left me a voice mail apology for the Woodburn experience., I've retained it, but presently am not inclined to waste more of my time listening to it again. Friday, May 15, mid-afternoon. Still never having received the prior promised phone call/voice mail reminder, and understandably not keen on a repeat of the April 2026 experience, I phoned Frontier Dermatology. When I said I'd never received the prior promised phone/voice mail appointment reminder, in part affirming the prior one made had not been rescheduled as is knownto happen.The reps forthcoming response was: "We'd sent you a text. Did you receive it?" In turn, I replied: (1) Before I arranged to skip texts; (2) Regardless, I'd never received one; (3) Nor the April promised phone call?voice mail. Given how thoroughly disgusted by I am by Frontier Dermatology's manifest repeat scheduling-related ineptitude, by voice on that P.M. phone call officially I cancelled the May 18, 2026, 9:20 A M.prior made appointment. I was, subsequent to the aforementioned April 2026 endeavor at the Woodburn location, nonetheless despite my prior declaration last April in Woodburn, scheduled to be seen by a D.O. in residence training! read more

I only rate Frontier 3 stars because the care is good. When you can get in and be seen, I've had good doctors and good care. However, it is hard to schedule appointments, appointments always run late, and this company seems more expensive than other dermatologists I've used. Every bill has felt like a money grab. I have no issues paying for care that I receive, but no one seems to know what the cost for a service will be or notify you of the cost until you receive the bill 1-2 months later. I received light therapy for a skin condition in late 2023. Got my first bill and the cost was $305 per 5 minute session with a tech (my out of pocket was about $225). When I called to figure out why it was so high, I just got a "Yeah, it's crazy how expensive these are! But, your insurance should cover it!" Recently had a similar wtf moment when I was billed an additional office visit at the cost of $330, where I received "medication management" that I didn't ask for. No indication at the visit, which was no longer than a previous $125 visit, that THEIR provider changed the type of visit on me and never notified me. I just got a bill that was 3x higher than I expected, and was then told that I could fight my insurance if I didn't like it. I have a high deductible plan, because financially that works out better for me. But, it's insane that providers have no idea what anything costs here and the costs are very high. The care *is* good, hence the ok rating, but having two of these incidents makes me question if I want to continue my care here. read more

My daughter was being seen here for almost a yr. She was put on Accutane, each month she had to have a pregnancy test done at the clinic, then Accutane can be ordered. Several months Accutane would NOT be ordered or "forgotten" then we'd have to go back in for another test, which we'd be billed for, despite it being their mistake. read more

Dr. Shangraw is phenomenal. She has helped me so much and is always kind. I have never had such a great experience with a doctor before.

I booked an appointment 2 months ago because that's how long I had to wait to be seen. Then when I got there to the appointment they told me it was canceled due to "staffing" which wasn't true because the person that was supposed to see me Drew was there but over booked so she couldn't get me into the appointment I had scheduled months in advance. They called the wrong number to let me know they randomly canceled it. So thanks for canceling when I got there last minute it was very unprofessional. This happened in April and they said I could come back later in June because of their mistake on over booking appointments. I will be going somewhere else since the new owner has let this place go down. Before the new owner my appointments were never canceled and I didn't have to wait four months to get help with my skin condition. read more

My Care from the Mohs Surgeon was AWESOME. I would Recommend Dr. Lacey Roybal, DO, FAAD without reservation. She did an AWESOME job removing the Cancer. Her bedside manner and care is Top Notch. She is a FIVE STAR all the way. The online check in, and my care with the Dermatologist itself was not so good. I required two Biopsies, one on my Ear where the doctor cut a triangle chuck out of my ear and then did a Scraping Biopsy. It could have been done without actually cutting the Triangle section out of my Ear. From the looks of it I will always have a imperfection in my left ear, because of Subpar treatment from my Dermatologist. I would give this a Three Star at best. I also had a spot on the top of my skull that was biopsied (by a Medical Assistant) and it did reveal that I had Cancer requiring Mohs surgery to remove the Cancer. The Pre appointment checkin is Crazy. I was forced to watch VOD about Psoriasis, with no option to by pass it. So I had no option but to Opt-out of all preregistration. I think this needs some attention. If they want to share suggestions about my Care and Needs, I believe it should be relevant. The lack of pinpoint focus is forcing Silverfalls Dermatology staff to do more work. read more

I am a patient here and I like the doctors but the front desk and appointment people are totally incompetent. I recommended this place to my boyfriend. He made an appointment and was told he needed a referral from his PCP. He got the referral but because the dermatology clinic received it shortly before his appointment, they cancelled his appointment and did NOT tell him. Very rude to say the least and embarrassing to me for having referred this clinic. read more

Not only did my and my wife's appointments get double booked every single time we went, not only have I also received permanent facial burn scars due to carelessness on the machine operator's part, but now, Halfway through our booked sessions for a hair removal procedure, they are canceling all further appointments with us, because the people/persons who were performing the procedure are 'graduating'..? I am unsure how anyone there could be 'graduating' with such poor grades from us. read more

I arrived early and just after a short time, I was called back. I did have to wait the time I gained before the doctor came in but the medical assistant who took me to the exam room was very nice and thorough. She explained in detail what she would be doing in preparation of what the procedure would entail. I think her name was Samantha? Great Experience - As a new patient I was seen same day, - able to fill out all my new patient forms online at home and was not asked to fill out more paper forms when I arrived, - no long wait in the lobby, appt was at 1:10 and I was in an office at 1:25, - lobby, bathroom and exam rooms were clean and kept up, - and I received excellent and knowledgable care by a doctor, a resident doctor, and a nurse. All the other clinics I called were scheduling 3-6 months out if they were accepting new patients at all. Our medical assistant/nurse was very thorough and found skin cancer that needed MOHs surgery. Because they didn't have a doctor at this clinic to do the surgery, we had to go 50 miles away. Everyone working at that clinic seemed depressed.. The surgery went well, but we needed another surgery and found out the doctor had quit and they didn't have anyone lined up to do it. Both offices were dreary. One clinic didn't even have parking. So we found a new clinic 5 miles away with a great staff, a doctor who does the MOHs surgery, and easy parking. And the whole clinic is bright and cheerful. It is in a small building so it's not sharing space with another business. It's Clear Choice Dermatology in Warrenton, Oregon! We hope Silver Falls get's it together because we need more dermatology providers on the coast. read more

I was referred to Silver Falls Dermatology by my primary care provider over a month ago to get a mole checked. I received an email from Silver Falls about a week later saying they'd contact me for scheduling within 3 days. I hadn't been contacted again, so I've been calling them and getting the runaround. I called today and was told "they" denied my request for an appointment. I asked for clarification, thinking they were referring to the insurance company. Turns out "they" is Silver Falls themselves. So the place that my primary care doctor referred me to get checked and biopsied is saying they won't see me unless I already have biopsy-confirmed skin cancer. So this place is not only useless, they wasted over a month of my time instead of just refusing outright. Given how important early detection is, this is unforgivable. read more

Another great experience with Silver Falls Dermatology!!! An abnormality had appeared on my skin and I was able to secure an cancelation appointment in just 3 days. Brook the M.A. and Dr Whitman made a thorough exam and pronounced no concern for the skin problem I had came in for. Just a bruise that was healing and I hadn't been aware of the slight injury that had caused it initially. They recommended a topical cream- said to call for a prescription if I needed more. This is why I have learned to make Silver Falls my go to clinic for anything pertaining to skin health. Thanks also to Kelly at the front desk for searching the cancellation list for this rapidly found appointment slot. There was another lady assisting Kelly but I didn't hear her name. I feel like I was abandoned by this clinic after being a patient here for many years. I started a series of procedures, and was supposed to be seen in 2 weeks. My appointment has been cancelled twice and it has been a month now, and the next appointment is not scheduled for yet another month! I understand people become ill, and there is a shortage of physicians sometimes, but the only person who seemed caring and concerned was the scheduler! Tell me why it takes three weeks for them to send the prior authorization or to actually listen to the patient for the correct information before they just act all confident and send it to wherever they want to and then blame it back on the insurance company or pharmacy. The Salem office should be renamed the "Fellini Clinic of Salem". The 3 Stooges could operate this clinic better. Make sure your medical records are accurate and complete along with your insurance information otherwise you'll be in a heap of trouble. Doctors are stubborn and don't reach out to patients if there are any questions that need to be answered. They make medical decisions based on incomplete/inaccurate information.
