I was immediately guided into a service bay. The guy was nice and plugged my car to a machine. The test took about a minute. Passed. They also have plate stickers for sale on the premises, so I pulled around and purchased my plate stickers. They don't take tap pay, so have your physical card on you. I got mail the other day informing me that my plates were due to expire soon, which necessitated a trip to the nearest Illinois Air Team to (hopefully) give my ride a clean bill of health. I visited the one in Joliet at noon on a Friday when the estimated wait time was 4min. The emissions tech was nice; that job must get old in a hurry, so kudos to him for staying upbeat and getting me on my way. There's a small side building off to the right where you can renew your license plate sticker, and that's where I headed. Five people were in front of me, one of whom was arguing with an employee over their failed emissions test. Hey man, it's not THEIR fault your car is a jalopy held together by air fresheners & bungee cords! This guy got pretty worked up and the mood in that tiny space became tense, at best. Should you choose to get your sticker here instead of through Secretary of State, they'll charge a $9.50 credit/debit card transaction fee. Since plastic is the ONLY thing they accept, there's no way around this surcharge of ten bucks (by say, writing a check or paying in pennies). * TL;DR * This review could be broken into two parts: the actual emissions test, and the license plate sticker renewal process. The first part was great, a solid 5*. The second part took a while and drags the overall down to 4*. That side building gets surprisingly hot in the summer, and I'm not a fan of the whopping $10 processing fee....I have enough taxes and sh*t in my life, I could do without this. They ended up adding a $15 charge for tire rotation which put a sour taste in my mouth because it had not been mentioned earlier and made their cost less competitive. The waiting room seemed really nice online but it feels like sitting in the school admin office waiting to see the principal. It's tiny and you're practically all sitting shoulder to shoulder so don't expect to get any work done. It didn't take them too long to complete the oil change which was nice. However the real reason for the 2 star review is the inspection report. They told me nothing was wrong except for 2 tires getting close to end of their life. I thought this was odd since i could hear my break pads and was told last time that they'd need to be replaced at this oil change by another mechanic. I asked specifically about this and they said no the break pads are still fine. I was also expecting something else because my car is on it's 5th year of life and there's other stuff besides an oil change that you need to do. Nothing. I left, not realizing that the inspection link they text expires and you won't be able to access without logging in (i had asked for a printout but they said the link is fine). And now less than a month later, my car doesn't start because the battery is dead, a steering wheel sensor (RDS thing) is no longer working and the breaks are squealing when I reverse too. Car was fine before. I don't know if these are their fault but the inspection is definitely a joke -don't trust it!

There were four lanes open and each had three to four cars waiting. I got into the shortest line - three cars and as soon as I pulled up, the first car left. I probably waited five minutes before I was in line to be tested. The test has gotten shorter over the years, probably due to improved technology. You still have to get out of the car so they can complete the test and it was mighty cold out that day. They have an enclosed room where you can wait, but I was not offered the chance to go inside. I imagine it's because the test is so fast now. The car passed inspection. The person who did the test thanked me for coming by - she was very pleasant. This location also has a place where you can renew your plates. My plates are still up to date so I didn't have to go inside but I have used them before and was pleased with their service.
