I wanted to give this place 5 stars, as the food was amazing. I had Lamb Biryani, Tandoori Chicken, Samosa, Chana Masala. I ordered for lunch to go using the online app that is linked on their webpage. Really easy. Food took a few minutes after I got there (but I got there quick). Sign the receipt and gone. Walked by the lunch buffet and checked it out. Looks pretty good, and i heard its $9. I will definitely be trying it out. And i'll be back for the Biryani and Naan, cause its was amazing. The restaurant is a bit run down and clearly casual. Certainly isnt trying to be something it isnt. Only reason why I didnt give it 5 stars. Very nice, very cozy family restaurant. I ordered the chicken vindaloo since I was in the mood for some spice and it sure did hit the spot! It was deliciously creamy but had a really nice kick of heat. I also ordered a mango lassi and it was AMAZING, super nice compliment to the heat from the chicken vindaloo. The vegetarian options are great ! My boyfriend and I always get the vegetarian dinnerevery time we go and I have never been disappointed. Eating in, the service is fast and the woman who served us was very polite and friendly. We have ordered out once and they may need to change the containers they use, the lids broke on a few things but everything was packed tightly and sitting up straight so nothing spilled and there wasn't a mess. This place was delightful! The food was fantastic. Indian food is known to be pretty hot and spicy. We weren't asked about spice levels (some places ask level 1-5 or mild, medium, hot) while they didn't, it wasn't unbarablly hot but it definitely didn't lack on flavor! Very good little strip mall Indian restaurant. I know Indian food, and in my opinion, this is the best in Frederick. The owner is from Nepal, I think, so the food tracks a little in that direction, but you can still get old reliables as well. Nothing fancy, but always good and clean. And the service is very friendly. And, amazingly for little old Frederick, there always seems to be decent business. I hope it continues so that this place will stay open! read more

Went there with my husband about two months ago. The reviews on Yelp led me to believe this was a good choice for the area. However, as Indian food goes we have had much better. For appetizers we ordered the vegetable samosa - good, and vegetable pakora - not good. My butter chicken and naan started to make me feel sick right there in the restaurant. My husband does not recall what he ordered but he did not enjoy his dinner either. We aren't often in Frederick but we certainly will not be back. Service was good though. read more

Went for lunch buffet last week. All items lack any taste or flavour. It seems the cook have no idea how to make authentic Indian dishes or the owner is not interested. Just throwing masala on meat do not make a good curry at all. Same comment about desserts too.. Mixing milk with rice does not a rice pudding. I had past by the physical location on a few occasions and liked the name. At some point I had seen their catering van while driving down the boulevard. That was it, I wanted to eat at this place! I was going to order through waiter on the way but I had to call the restaurant to ask someone about a menu item. The owner had answered the phone and my question. I was ready to order and told him that I would call waiter on the way because I didn't think he delivered to my location at the time. He told me that by the time I called WOTW the restaurant would be closing so he took my order and delivered it to me instead. Super cool! He exceeded excellent customer service, and has great food. I totally recommend this restaurant to any Indian food lover. One day when I'm in town I will have to go to the actual location to check it out. read more

We used to go here with our son when he lived in the area and today my husband thought it would be fun to go back. They have a lunch buffet during the week, also a menu. Very friendly and the food is good. The buffet was up, but we felt like getting something off the menu. As Lisa B states, they will help you pick something--my husband got Butter Chicken--which wasn't on the menu, but suggested by the waiter--he really liked it. I got Allu Gobi (cauliflower and potatoes in a spicy sauce). There was plenty of yummy rice too. You won't go away hungry. Tricky parking lot--it's small and tight. You have to do a U-turn on Route 40 if you are approaching from the east. Still worth it. read more

This was a good find that we saw in the Yelp reviews for Frederick. Our server was very helpful with the ordering and we decided to go family style for variety. We ordered their meat combination meal and the Saag Goght (boneless pieces of lamb cooked in cream, spinach, herbs, and spices). The Saag Goght was very good and had that extra heat without losing the favor. I cannot name most of the items that came with the combo but everything was really good and full of flavor. As far as Indian Food goes the Clay Oven is probably my absolute favorite in all of the Mid-Atlantic region. Hidden away in a small strip mall in Frederick MD the clay oven offers a very affordable lunch buffet with all the classic dishes, and a few others. This establishment is owned by a husband and wife who are extremely nice, and very accommodating to your needs. I wouldn't eat at any other Indian place in Frederick as long as the Clay Oven is around! If you want great Indian food with Great friendly service then you want the Clay Oven. read more

My favorite Indian restaurant in the Frederick/Hagerstown area. I usually go for the buffet which has plenty of items for meat eaters or vegetarians. The Chicken Tikka Makhani is always on the buffet...and is my favorite. The Tandoori Chicken is good as well. This restaurant keep Naan on the buffet, which a number of Indian places do not. I like this so that I can just get a piece whenever I want and not have to wait for the waiter to bring more out. They always seem to keep the Naan stocked and it goes quick so it is never really cold. The service here is always good...have never had a problem...the owner of this restaurant is on site frequently and is super nice. read more

My friend and I stopped in for the lunch buffet. I was super excited because they had matter paneer on the buffet and that's my absolute favorite Indian dish and it's almost never on lunch buffets. The problem was that all of the food was watery. I had the vegetable korma, chicken tikka masala and the matter paneer and there was so much liquid on my plate that it was making my naan soggy. It was almost like they were trying to stretch the sauce by watering it down. It had an ok spiciness level, but whatever they did to make it so liquidy cancelled out most of the flavor. I've never had to add salt to my Indian food before today. The samosas were ok. The naan was really fresh, but a little undercooked. We were sad because we wanted to love it, but it just wasn't happening. The staff is very nice though, it's a shame the food isnt. read more

Unpretentious place with good food. This was my first time eating Indian food so I decided to go with what many reviewers recommended. So I had the butter chicken and although it was good, I don't know why anyone would rave so much about it. It could have been just a tad bit more tender and that may have made the difference. It was in a spicy. creamy sauce which was good. Someone said the garlic naan was a must so I tried that but it was kind of blah, and almost no taste of garlic whatsoever. My husband had a lamb dish that he liked although he probably should have ordered the spiciness down one notch. We both loved the basmati rice - not like regular rice at all, almost a bit sweet and so delicate. I've made basmati rice before at home but it has never tasted like that! I have always wanted to try a mango lassi and I finally had my opportunity. Now THAT was delicious! It was rather small, though. We are from NJ but my husband works in MD during the week and the Clay Oven is less than a mile away from his apartment. I would definitely go back and try other items, maybe even the buffet. We went on a Friday night and my theory is that service and quality are never as good on weekends as weekdays just because restaurants are busier. Not that the service wasn't good - the staff was very pleasant and the restaurant was not too busy at all but I did see a few people picking up orders so maybe that's why the naan was disappointing and the chicken in the butter chicken tasted just a tad overdone. read more

This is one of THE best restaurants for Indian cuisine, hands down! I frequent this place nearly each week for a taste of the kadai chicken, warm parathas, and mango lassi. There's something for everyone on their menu especially if you like "heat!" Not everything is spicy though. If you're not a fan of hot peppers and bold spices, try milder dishes like the butter chicken, do piaza dishes, or their tandoori specials. Amazing! read more
