Marcelo is the best in the business. Zoe, our 7-year old Teacup Yorkie has been to several salons but when we moved north in 2016 we knew we found a home in Claws-N-Paws. Marcelo and his team were always so warm and welcoming. My little Bug just adores him. Whenever its time to go back, if we so much as mention his name, she starts to wiggle and wag. She nearly jumps out of my arms every time she sees him. And what can i say about her hair when she's done...she looks gorgeous! Zoe is a little tomboy, always eager to keep up with her brother; Yorkie owners will understand how difficult rough-housing is on their dos! But without fail, Marcelo works out every tangle, primps and punes and waa-laa, our little princess is back! We adopted Zoe's brother Wasabi last year, an 8 week old silver and gold Teacup Yorkie. I decided to take my poms somewhere new since I've moved and boy do I regret it. My dogs had a complete hack job done. The owner was very rude when I picked them up and claimed all they did was bite, which I found shocking since my dogs love to get groomed. You can see from the photo of my one dog that he cut way too close to the skin, which explains why they were agitated. He didn't even bother brushing her out and instead just cut all her fur off, pure laziness on his part. I can see why this guy only accepts cash as a payment, because with that type of work he probably dealt with a lot of disputes. I'm so disappointed someone can do this bad of work. I'd rather make the hour drive to my old groomers than ever set foot in this establishment again. read more

I took my dog here in 2017 for his first cut. He was a rescue pomeraninan puppy. Marcello said he was matted and needed to be shaved. When I told him no, he got upset and told me he wasn't sure what he could do. When i picked my dog up he has the worst haircut I've ever seen. His skin was red, and he was scared. The reason I'm writing this now is because my dog developed alopecia, which I've been told is a direct result of eliminating his undercoat as a puppy. The positive reviews are from people who don't know about dog grooming. Look at the cuts on Instagram. They're not breed standard at all. Don't bring your dog here! Please take your dog somewhere else!!! Today I dropped my dog off to get groomed (bath & haircut) and 2 and a half hours later I received a call stating she would not be ready for another hour, meaning she would be sitting in a cage there for a total of 3 and a half hours. Not knowing that this groom would last double the time normal grooms do (one and a half hours) I had a meeting scheduled and needed to pick her up. For her to get just a bath (they did not cut her hair) it was $60. Also apparently she had a bath, but there was poop on her butt and multiple knots all over her body. I recommend going somewhere else that cares more about your dog than to leave them in a cage for 3 and a half hours. The owner said they only had one dryer which was the reason for the long wait. By charging that amount for just a bath, they should be able to afford another one. Please take your dog somewhere else so they are not sitting shaking in a cage at the groomers for 3+ hours. Also whenever I picked up my dog, the owner was the only one there and left another dog unattended on a grooming table to wait on me. An accident waiting to happen if you ask me. read more

I've had my sheepadoodle groomed here 3 times. Terri did a great job for the first puppy haircut. Marcello completed the second and third haircuts but rather than help my partner and I learn better ways to brush and care for the pup's coat at home, we felt shamed and scolded by him for our pup having matted spots in his hair when bringing him in. He followed my partner out to the vehicle on the final visit and expressed frustration saying that the pup would need to be shaved down. I understand there is a learning curve with owning a doodle and we are trying to learn and build better routines, but feeling shamed by Marcello did not help me care for my dog better and has resulted in negative behaviors afterwards that have lingered. Following the final grooming, our pup had excessive pinkness and irritation which had to be medicated for over a week and still had small clumps of matting and long hairs which were not cared for during the grooming that I had to trim. He also became terrified of having his harness put on and wooden floors (such as are in the shop), neither of which he had problems with before. Lastly he has become excessively more clingy, whereas he had a more independent streak before. I can't prove what his time at the groomers was like, but I have seen so many new trends in behavior after the final visit, that I do not trust that my pup had a safe and friendly visit. I would have rather honestly been given help in how to better groom or just be told they aren't accepting doodles than to have the feeling that my dog may have been mistreated in some way during his grooming here. read more

Highly disappointed in owner. Didn't actually get to have dog groomed. I took her in for her first appointment and Marcelo said he would need to shave her because she was all matted all over. She's a Havanese, brushed regularly and was not matted at all. When I told him to show me, he pointed to her normal fur. He clearly just didn't want to groom my girl and I had gotten a negative vibe when I made the appointment and told him her age (14). His reply was "oh". I have my dog groomed regularly (every 5 weeks) to keep her with a puppy cut. I never heard from previous groomers that she was matted. read more

We just experienced our 2nd grooming at Claws-N-Paws Boutique and could not be more satisfied. We have a Lakeland Terrier and have had hard a hard time finding a groomer in Pittsburgh that is familiar with the breed and knew how to provide the traditional cut. Our dog has been groomed beautifully both times and comes back to us smelling wonderful and feeling rejuvenated. The environment is welcoming, super clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Our pup is becoming more used to being handled by the staff as well and her behavior continues to improve with each visit. The salon location is actually a bit out of the way for us but we are happy to drive a little further for the Claws-N-Paws experience! read more

Doodle hair is no joke! I'm so grateful that Marcelo keeps my furry guy healthy and handsome!

We took our Wire Fox Terrier here 3 times. His hair needs to be hand stripped. It is a very time consuming and costs $$. I had no problems paying. The first time I went they did pretty well. I believe the owner is the one who can hand strip. It was the 2nd and 3rd time I noticed that he looked like they clipped him. The 3rd and final time were when I decided "NO WAY, I paid for a service and did not receive what I had paid for." They cut his beard, made him look like a poodle. His hair is wiry, and it is now SOFT! I chose to go to this place because there are not many groomers that hand strip. As I mentioned before, the process is timely and requires a lot from the groomer and the dog. Why I am so upset is that they had my dog for 6+ hours to only be clipped. The deceit of paying for a service I did not receive is something I felt I needed to inform other customers who are looking for this type of service. I immediately contacted the ONLY other place in Western PA and took him today. She was appalled at what they had done. They did not trim his ears; they cut off his goatee, his face was sloppy, and everything was cut with a clipper or scissors! His coat may be damaged and may never go back to its original texture. If you're looking for a groomer with integrity, I would not recommend this place!! read more

Not only did he manage to do exactly what we asked for....our cats have never looked so clean and absolutely adorable and shedding is definitely at a minimum. We started by taking our Ragdoll cat here years ago. He is 5 now, but when he was a kitten he got loose in our garage, and from that episode, he got really matted by his tail and wouldn't let us touch it bc it hurt him. We took him to Claws and Paws... they did an amazing Lion Cut on him, which we still do 3-4 times a year. He is not always an easy client, but they get the job done! I know one time he was very disagreeable, but she did what she could, and it really cuts down on the hair balls for him during grooming, so we continue to go... Our new Collie has had three visits to the salon. He is a very well behaved boy, and they do make him look like a super model. Marcello even brushes his teeth!!! I couldn't ask for a more professional grooming for either of them, and my cat sitter asked to refer her sister in law to them and she sees hundreds of cats! You won't be sorry because your pets will never look better! I took my dog there to get washed, nails and hair cut. He's a jack Russell, Boston terrier, beagle mix and his nails are cut and I think he got washed but they only cut his back and tail. It's like they stopped at his neck and his neck and face look terrible and scruffy. Not very satisfied. read more

We brought our mini goldendoodle puppy here for his first haircut and left him under the impression he was getting a "puppy cut/ light trim". I wanted his eyes cleaned up a little so he see. When we picked him up I didn't even recognize the dog that came out. They gave him a poor clipper cut that is uneven and shaved his nose down (which I've never seen before?) To me it seems like they just wanted to take the quick way out and not spend the time using scissors. When we got home and called they blamed it on me for not explaining what I wanted well enough. I said it was his first time, so if they needed clarification why not ask or walk me through the options?? Why not call when you have our number?? We aren't even taking him back to have it corrected we are that upset. Would not recommend. read more

They only take cash, which is inconvenient. For dogs, a nail clipping is more than double what Tender Touch down the street charges ($12 vs $5). The only problem is that Tender Touch prefers you make an appointment and Claws-n-Paws can usually accommodate a walk-in nail clipping. Also, everything is open so the dogs can see the owners in the waiting room. It's always cute to see all of the other dogs get their grooming. The open line of sight ends up causing problems for my dog, who get distressed and noisy if he knows his owner is around to "save" him. Most people drop their pets off anyway, so this should not be an issue. read more

I have been taking my cat here for nail clipping for about a year now since moving to the area. I do not need to make an appt for the nail clipping - I just show up and they take me right away. My cat does not enjoy getting his nails trimmed, but he seems to have taken to the staff here and actually seems to enjoy his visits. Five minutes or less and we are in and out. I would highly recommend this place. It is so hard to find a groomer that will also work with cats. The staff is very friendly and I love the interior of the shop - a sort of shabby chic.
