This is a restaurant that has been in business for a long time. Great food with wonderful service in a cool vibe keeps Scales on top. I have eaten here for years and it never disappoints. The piccata or claimed spaghetti are my favorite dishes. I have enjoyed many different meals and loved them all.

Updating my review to sadly, one star. First, the menu is on a chalkboard which shouldn't be a problem right? It is if you're seated with your back away from it. There was a dividing half-wall and I had to stand up in a tight spot, then turn around to see it. My eyesight is bad, so that was very annoying and awkward twisting around in front of company. Don't order the lobster bisque. No flavor and fishy smell (in a bad way). The lemon artichoke linguine is a definite pass. The "sauce" was dry and looked like ground up artichoke paste. It tastes like mint and pesto but not really? Way too much garlic. =tummy ache. Calamari ok.

Lobster seafood pasta.

I was looking for seafood that was not quite American, nor Italian or French, but cooked with preserving the natural flavor of the seafood used, particular lobster (too many restaurants tend to overcook them), I went through many restaurants serving seafood, recommended or researched at my own, the photos on their website caught my attention, and the 4.5 star review made me to decide on it. After we went there, the staff were so friendly and warm, the place was also easy going, with just about right formality and ambience. We picked up the dish we want immediately-and it was the best seafood pasta I have ever tasted. They made their own pasta and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce was, amazingly, with just perfect blend of American, Italian and French. Perfectly balanced.

First time back in a couple of years and the food was excellent. The new management and kitchen are putting out much better dishes than in the past! Lobster bisque was very good as was the Cesar salad. Linguine and clams were delicious and cooked perfectly. The spicy seafood linguine was also very good! Freshly made linguine in house. Grilled lobster was also excellent. Our server Loretta Lynne was great as was the manager checking in on us during our meal. We will definitely make this a regular again when visiting Newport!

It has been at least 7 years since I had been to Scales. In the past it was very tough to get a reservation especially on a Saturday . Needless to say I was shocked to get a 7:15 time slot on a weekend in August however it turned out very lucky for us. We had a delightful server named Molly and I must say if it were not for her recommendation of the homemade mushroom pasta I would never have chosen this Ahhhmazing dish. A fabulous blend of sauce with a hint of pancetta. My husband picked the Bucatini with shrimp. I think he would have licked his plate if he could. My coconut mojito and his blood orange sour were perfect compliments to our meal. Definitely coming back soon!

The Quick: Fantastic seafood, cocktails, and wine list (ask for pairing recommendations, they know their stuff). The lobster fra Diavolo is incredible! The staff is very accommodating. If you're a seafood lover, this is for you The Details: If you don't eat seafood, this might be a little difficult for you. There are definitely vegetarian sides, but the focus is on seafood and it's done. Incredibly. The raw bar is incredibly fresh, and they are spicy red/ Sicilian sauce is incredible.. Make sure to get extra bread. The Damage: fresh seafood is not inexpensive, but we thought the meal was worth every penny.

This place is amazing. As an industry professional myself, I have to admit that they checked all the boxes. We were visiting on a Friday night at peak time and we were seated promptly. Our server, Tait, was very knowledgeable with the menu, and very accommodating . The support staff was attentive as well. Food was delicious, and from the perspective of a bar manager, I really appreciate that the exquisite cocktails also complimented the menu options very well. We ordered all three of the oysters offered. They were all fresh and delicious. Our next course was the Tilefish Brandade (special) which was exceptional. We did have to ask for more crostini, we got more bread but it wasn't toasted. I can't fault them for that because we got it immediately (but it would've been nice to have crostini instead of soft bread....the two pieces that came with the dish weren't nearly enough for the spread.). That's my only negative critique though. The cocktail menu is wonderful and well planned to pair with the menu items. I had the jalapeño Paloma and the "Miso thirsty" martini. Kudos to whoever made this drink menu so complimentary to the food. Nicely done! I don't live in the area, but I'm excited to come back just for this. Thank you to Tait and the rest of the staff who made our dining experience so memorable. We'll see you again!

The portion really wasn't worth the price. Overall it was okay.

I find that to be a rarity in today's restaurant scene. I could not recommend this place more. It's a popular place, sure, but it's not a madhouse or anything. (I can think of two other nearby places that were a LOT louder than TSK on the nights we visited them.) Okay, but the service - friendly and . . . seemingly caring . . . but - I don't know, not always on top of things? Some things were instantly noted and addressed, others - well, there were big gaps of time between check-ins . . . and it wasn't an especially busy time. Also a couple reasonably major life events that had been noted when making the reservation were not even remarked upon: it was just sort of, "Here's your supper!" We'd certainly go back - the folks in the kitchen are fantastic and I want more of what they make - heck, I'd go back today. The folks out front . . . well, it wasn't an "A-Team" experience, although it wasn't unpleasant or anything.

From start to finish, everything was outstanding. Shelby, our server, was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and truly embodied the spirit of hospitality. She genuinely cared about making our evening special, and it absolutely showed. The food was fabulous -- no surprise with the talented Scales crew behind it all! The restaurant is nicely appointed and has free parking in a private lot. For years we've been eating at Scales and Shells, but the restaurant recently changed hands and chefs. Our favorite dishes were no longer on the menu! But we were happy to learn that the chef from Scales had relocated up the street, here at Hooked. The same great food in a different location! The monkfish piccata is one of my favorite meals I've ever had, and it's just as good here as it was at the old spot. I also enjoyed my martini and the complimentary focaccia bread was delicious. I'll look forward to coming back to Hooked next time I'm in Newport!

I was a bit nervous about the lamb because it really can vary from place to place. However, I should have known better being from here they cooked/braised it to perfection: melt in your mouth type of soft and no weird or gamey taste. Definitely delicious pasta I recommend. Plates: 1. Duck Leg Confit- japanese turnip, spigariello kale, huckleberry conserva, duck jus. Personally my faves of the two plates but both delicious. The crispy skin from the duck and tender flavorful duck meat was just to die for. Loooooved. Plus the turnips and the amazing huckleberry conserva! Thinking about it makes my mouth water. So so good. 2. Beef Short Rib-swiss chard erbazzone, sunchoke, hazelnut. Loved it. Tasty as expected. Great flavor and tender. Dessert: 1. Olive Oil Cake- strawberry, rosé, lime curd, basil gelato. Wow! Oh wow! I'm so happy this time around they have some cake options. I love olive oil cake and now to pair with a basil gelato sounds insane right? Holy cow! Soooo good! Not what I was expecting. Strawberry, rose, lime and basil gelato flavor all work well together in this dessert. My fave dessert of the night! TRY IT! 2. Cookies N' cream: narragansett creamery ricotta, chocolate biscotti- yummy! Tasted like an elevated cookies and cream ! We loved our experience! Hopefully when you visit here, you can enjoy it as much as we do year after year. I absolutely love this place. Food is beyond excellent and is a place you have to stop by and visit while in Newport.

For my main course I had the tonnorelli pasta with a green garlic sauce which is my favorite. Only available during early spring when the garlic is young and green. The flavor is mild not too garlicky with an herbal earthy flavor. One of the best pasta dishes I've had. Dessert was olive oil cake with a minty flavored gelato. Everything is made in house. Service is great, everyone is so welcoming and the vibe so calming . Can't say enough about this place.

The decor perfectly suits the Newport scene and includes a welcoming food bar area that would be perfect for enjoying their international tapa-like street-food inspired offerings. A small patio is available to overlook Memorial Blvd in nicer weather. While they do not have a liquor license, you are welcome to BYOB and we did, finding the $3 per person corkage fee very fair. Now, about the food... WOW! What a explosion of fun flavors! With choices of snacks from around the world, you can jump from one intense palate to another, over and over. Three of us shared five small dishes & one large and we loved them all. The Nduja Shrimp Dumplings were delicate and fresh and loaded with flavor. The tacos that we were here to judge were fantastic. The pork was juicy & flavorful, and, though we were afraid the vegetable tacos would be boring - they were anything but. We'd eat these all the time! Bravas Frites were a fun twist on traditional Spanish Patatas Bravas, using fries as a base rather than cubed potatoes. Again, delicious! I should mention that after we ordered, our 5 appetizers arrived starting in 5 minutes and all were served within 10 minutes. We did screw up by forgetting we were at BYOB. OK - the killer - the food. Of the 5 appetizers we ordered only one was a winner! That was the Brussel sprouts which were outstanding and a large portion. All the other dishes were about the right size for sharing by 2. Realize they are striving for "fusion" but they missed it on the pulled pork dumplings. The lamb skewers were a struggle to eat - tough (and certainly could not be eaten off the skewers) - but the saving grace was the dipping sauce. The big failures were the prosciutto croquettes - a real mess with a sliver of meat on top of mainly onions - and OMG - the Korean chicken wings. The latter came slathered with a sticky and spicy, sweet, red sauce (too hot for my wife) and some sort of dipping sauce. A mess to eat. We had to request paper towels and dip in our water to clean up. Damages with tip was $90 and we only had a tea and sparkling water. The arugula bean salad was sooo good and created such a well balanced meal. The one thing I will say is I believe their fryer does fish and chicken bc my chicken had a slight ocean taste but since I like fish I was not bothered but non fish people beware!

We just had another fabulous dinner at Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant--our second time dining here…read moresince last fall, and it was just as wonderful as we remembered. We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes and drinks we'd love to try.

Friendly bartenders and patrons. Sat at the bar and had beers, sangria and a blood orange…read moremargarita. Also ordered onion rings which were nicely fried. Noise is average. Good place to hang out at the bar.
