I am very much impressed with this facility after first try. I do boxing on a 4-5 times a week basis and have tried many places in Pasadena, San Francisco, and Seattle, very few have me come back as member, but I have to say even I'm not the biggest fan on kickboxing I'd come back to this place on a monthly basis. Signed up my sister and I for the $40 first time class with gloves and wrap to get a feel of whether or not I want to try kickboxing. My little sister wanted to exercise again but I wasn't sure if I wanted to sign us up for a gym membership again or try something else. Mainly I wanted to see if I felt comfortable with the environment or not. I tried one day of crossfit somewhere else but the instructor made me feel soo uncomfortable and pressured to pay for multiple private lessons that I didn't have money for at the time. (I do now, but will not be going back for those reasons.) This place was the opposite: the instructors did not rush our pace as beginners, checked on us without making us feel singled out, and made sure we were feeling okay because at some point I was getting a little dizzy. They were very friendly and experienced but not pushy and everyone in the class minded their own forms and I was relieved to see all ages, genders, and body types enjoying the class. I signed up for Phoebe's class, but after meeting Marucio, I think I would be comfortable taking classes with him too. I'm definitely going to sign up for more classes later. I tried this class via class pass. Owner and the workers are so friendly. And they seem to genuinely care about your experiences. My first time I didn't know you needed a towel, hand wraps and shoes!! I tried fight academy where you fight on the mat. So I was kicking with my bare feet lol. Here are some things you should know: bring gloves, water, towel, hand wrap, and shoes!! They wrapped my hands for me and gave me loaners. And they do have it for rent. The instructor taught in a way where it was easy and understandable. I would highly recommend this place!! Very fun, warm environment. This place is the best. First of all, the interior itself is magical. It looks like it's a gym straight out from a movie. It has a nostalgic sentiment with it's beautiful brick walls, great graphics, etc. If you're into interior design, you'll really appreciate the awesome environment. Secondly, the workout itself is awesome. The music is always great and you'll definitely learn some self defense and kickboxing moves. You'll sweat a lot and feel like you got a GREAT workout by the end of each class. Thirdly, all of the instructors are phenomenal. They are very personable and friendly. Personally, I love that this gym doesn't have a corporate feel and makes you feel at home. Lastly, I appreciate how clean the environment always is. Mauricio, the owner, always makes sure that everyone wipes the mats and bags down after each class, which makes all the difference. I don't even know where to start with how fantastic this studio is! First of all, Mauricio and his staff are SO welcoming and sweet and helpful. Depending on your interest, they will absolutely guide you to the best class. I had been wanting to try kickboxing for a while, but it's tricky to know what you'll get (eg: just a boxing gym). Here, you get classes that are a PERFECT blend of fun cardio and learning boxing technique. And if you're interested in focusing more on taking it up a notch and learning more about the sport, there's classes for that too. Go go go! You won't regret it. Do book first as much a possible, because some classes will get full, which is fun! And on that note, even in a full space, it is so clean and well maintained and well designed, so it never feels crowded and no matter what, somebody is available to get you quickly set up and going. I love this place!!! I tried it out through classpass, and liked it so much that I came 3 more times through cp instead of trying out other studios. Mauricio is the best and he definitely gives you an amazing workout that makes full use of the time (no breaks)! Atmosphere is awesome with the exposed brick, clean equipment, and great music. Gloves and wraps are free the first time, then $5 total to rent after that. I already had my own gloves and on my second class I purchased new wraps from them for $10. Classic Bicicletta is a great and unique total body workout! First hitting the legs with cycling and then the upper body with boxing, it was challenging and fun. With breaking up the class into two segments the time really flew by and I felt I had a killer workout. The gym is exceptionally clean, and all the equipment is in great shape. When life gives you lemons, you take those lemons to Classic Kickboxing...and you pulverize them. If you put in the work, you'll see results, but even if you're only going through the motions, you're at least letting go of any tension built up from the day, week, year. It's great for reducing stress. The gym is as authentic as it gets. It's been there a long time, so the floors creak, the bathrooms are pretty basic, and there aren't any fancy amenities. They have gloves for rent and wraps for purchase, but if it's your first time, they're free for use in the class. The instructors have a lot of energy and are very encouraging. The 50-minutes class goes by pretty fast since it's made up of a quick warmup, followed by sets of mixed rounds of punches and kicks, then finished off with abs and stretching. It's a nice place, but pricey. ~$15 a class and you pay by packages (set number of classes) or membership (by number of months). Plus, you have to buy gloves and wraps (tack on an additional $60). I had a great experience with the instructors (Mauricio is especially nice) I did NOT have a great experience with the management. I tried to see if I could transfer the remaining 16 classes I had left (I bought a package of 20, stupid me) to a friend, and they wouldn't honor it, even though I was leaving the area. There are no policies listed anywhere where this "non-transferable" fact is mentioned but the "manager" kept saying, "its our policy". Also, there are no refunds. Again, this is not stated anywhere on any paperwork I signed, but she kept saying, "it's our policy." She offered to not let the classes expire, but really, if I don't live in the area anymore, how could I go back to use the classes? What's the point of that???! read more

I moved from Orange County to Pasadena.. working out at the gym was just not cutting it for me.. I was missing kickboxing! :( I found this place on Yelp a few weeks ago, tried my first class for free, and now I come twice a week and "pay-as-I-go" for $20 bucks a class. It's not too much more than buying the classes in bulk or paying for a membership. The workouts kick my butt! I love it! Mauricio and Kristina are both great trainers. Mauricio seems to focus on balancing a full-body workout with all the combos that we do. Kristina gives more of a variety in technique and her ab session at the end of class hurts so good! All trainers will interrupt your kickboxing with a few push-ups or cardio sessions.. it definitely is like bootcamp. BRING A WATER BOTTLE! You will need it! If it's your first time, don't forget to bring a towel to lay out on the mats. There are plenty of girls in the classes, so I always feel comfortable. The staff is very professional and friendly. Having tried a lot of kickboxing gyms, this one is by far the best I've been to. The students also clean the mats and punching bags at the end of class, so if you're a germaphobe, no worries :) read more

I've tried out a bunch of boxing/MMA/Muay Thai gyms around the area over the last few years. I've found there are 2 types of gyms. The first is pure cardio, good for getting a sweat but no real instruction. The other is the full MMA gym. I usually get bored with the cardio gyms. Good workout but I'd also like to learn actual fighting form. At the MMA gyms if you are there primarily to get a workout and have no dreams of being the next UFC fighter in my experience they don't know what to do with you. I was at one like this for about a year and although the workout was good, every time I went in there felt like my first day. When Classic Kickboxing launched their "Elite Training" program they billed it as a workout for those that "want to be a fighter or train like one". That is exactly what they offer. The gym is friendly and warm. Mauricio (the owner) takes time to get to know all of the students. I find myself working out a lot more because I enjoy it so much. The instructors are incredible. Both the boxing coach (Vicente Escobedo, former Olympian) and the Muay Thai coach (BM Sasiprapa) are accomplished fighters - check them out on YouTube. The instruction is top notch and the atmosphere is welcoming. They also have a cardio kickboxing track for those not interested in sparring or a full fighting workout. It really a good environment for training. I trained with Chris he's a really good trainer and teaches you the right techniques. I enjoyed the class so much. But I'm a big fan of boxing and I just moved here and I can't afford to pay the published prices so I asked if they could adjust me the price but unfortunately they said it doesn't work. This may be difficult to believe... but IT IS possible to improve your technique AND get into fighting shape in a NON-pretentious environment. If you're interested in kickboxing, boxing, Muay Thai, or just one hell of a workout... you have to try this. I've been coming here in the early mornings for about two years now (maybe more... time flies when you're having fun!). It's been a main focus of my training when I'm in town, and it's worth getting up early for. Both the classes and the private instruction are impeccable. The facility is clean and very well-kept, everyone is friendly, and the instruction is top-notch without attaching a monstrous ego to the training environment (which is a seriously rare quality). The classes range from early morning to evening sessions, so it's not difficult to squeeze it into your schedule. Whether you just want to get into shape, you're just starting out, or you're a pro wanting to hone your skills... You WILL get a great work out and learn proper technique if you come here and stick with it. Just be ready to sweat! When I first entered, I told the awesome girl at the front desk that I wasn't feeling so hot due to a lingering stomach bug. Time for an update. Classic Kickboxing is my favorite gym around, hands down. I've been going consistently to classes for nearly two years (average, 3 classes/week). I've taken classes with all of the trainers for the classic classes (kickboxing), as well as the elite Muay Thai classes with BM or with Claudia, both are spectacular, and boxing with Vicente. Superb instruction. Classic classes are more cardio based for fitness, while the elite classes are more technically based, but anyone can do them (and Vicente's class is a killer workout). No matter what you pick, you'll leave here feeling great - not only are the classes a fantastic workout, but the atmosphere is extremely welcoming - everyone here is supportive and genuinely happy to work with you, this goes for both instructors and clients. Mauricio and the other instructors are easily the nicest people you'll ever meet. The gym is also beautiful - old school vintage boxing feel, beautiful wood floors, and exposed brick walls - yes, it's an older building, but that's the charm! The heavy bags range from soft to super heavy (100lbs+), so there's something for everyone. I train with Mauricio one-on-one and can't imagine ever stopping. The amount I've learned about boxing in our sessions is unparalleled to any other boxing gym around. I've been a member of several martial arts gyms over the past 10 years. Every gym has its strengths and weaknesses. Of all the places I've trained, Classic Kickboxing overall is the best package in Los Angeles for several reasons: Schedule - A variety of classes (kickboxing, brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay thai, capoeira, and boxing). And classes always start on time. Instructors - The owner is a USA Champion in both Mauy Thai and Kickboxing. He's a great coach. His instructors, like him, are great communicators of technique and will also push your limits physically. Environment - Clean, plenty of natural light, good vibes, free parking, good equipment, very well maintained. And right next to the Old Town Pasadena metro if you use it. Pricing - This place is less expensive than it looks. Even the drinks and accessories they sell are reasonably priced. Classic Kickboxing is the first kickboxing/martial arts..etc gym I've ever been to, so I may not have the best opinion about the gym facility itself...but it was a very comfortable, relaxed, fun type of environment. Whether it being cozy (size-wise) or the wooden environment. Being a first-timer, and a complete retard when it comes to dancing/martial arts or any kind of movement with specific technical steps..........I was worried about not being able to follow the steps or kick high enough...etc or embarrass myself somehow like I always do. But! 15 minutes in, I was completely into it. Definitely going back. What I can really give my five stars to was the atmosphere and the experience I had there thanks to Mauricio. I appreciated and in my head thanked him and GOD that he was repeating the steps many many times, more than enough to start following and trying it out - compare yourself to his position, fix and focus on your speed, movement, and power. It's a very open environment so you can pretty much even call him and ask him to show the example again if you missed it. If you're too shy, he'll come to you and guide you to a better posture, punch and kick. Awesome place! Sucks Classpass only allows 3 classes per studio per month. But after my experience at Classic Kickboxing - I definitely want to go back to learn so I can keep improving myself! read more

I can't help it, I just had to write another update. I just love this place so much! Honestly, I do not work here or have any affiliation to this place besides that I love working out here! There is absolutely nothing I would change of this place. Other places I've been to offer Kickboxing but it's no where as authentic and legit as Classic Kickboxing. I also love how we are allowed to wear shoes in class and you feel like you're training like a pro. The instructors are all previous/current professional competitors/champions. The more I try out other places for workouts, the more I am certain this is the BEST PLACE TO DO KICKBOXING/BOXING in all of SGV. They are all so nice/patient/friendly/understanding/informative...from the front desk (Phoebe) to the instructors (Mauricio & Mikaela that I've tried) to the other students, all are AWESOME. I love love love Classic Kickboxing! I started coming here as an awkward teen in high school, but had to leave the gym when I moved away for college. Each winter break spent at home was also spent in CK because I loved it that much. Now that I've returned to Pasadena I go here every day, and I'm glad to see that nothing has changed from my very first class. The owner Mauricio teaches most classes, and he is fantastic! Seriously the kindest, funniest, and by far youngest and most handsome gym owner I have ever met. He really takes the time to get to know each person that walks through the door, so it's such a pleasure to come here after a long day of work. Most of the members here are women of all backgrounds, ages, and fitness levels even though this is an INTENSE workout. This is great because it diffuses the intimidation factor that you'd normally find in a gym like this. There is a real community here and I've actually become good friends with the people I see here on a regular basis. I especially appreciate the great music, cool exposed brick and the cleanliness of CK. Despite everyone dripping with sweat from the workout there are no funky smells, and I'm never grossed out by the bags or the mats. As a person who hates working out, the fact that I come here every single day really speaks for its self. The combinations of kicks and punches changes every couple of minutes so you're never doing the same thing for long--this is really great for people like me who get bored easily. Also you feel so tough and bad ass when you take a class. I always walk out wanting someone to try and fight me on the street due to my elevated confidence. Each person can go at their own pace, and as you get in better shape, you attack the bag harder and faster so the workout never gets easier, you just get better. Never again will I go to Equinox, Soul Cycle or Barre! Classic Kickboxing will forever be my workout home! This kickboxing gym is the best you can find. I mean that. After moving here from NYC, I tried out several different kickboxing gyms in the Los Angeles area. For the most part, I was met with disgustingly huge egos, sloppy training techniques, dirty gyms, and negative attitudes. "Keep trying," I'd tell myself, while trying to forget all the egotistical jerks I'd run across. But I was rapidly losing hope. My motivation was being drained from my psyche with every grimy "Hey babe, so you wanna learn to kickbox huh, guffaw guffaw..." that I encountered in my quest. Desperation began to sink in. Where, ohhh where, could I find that gym for me? Where the training is amazing, where the vibe inspires me? Then my prayers were answered and I finally found my place. The dark times were over! "Have no fear! Classic Kickboxing is here!". Yup. That's what I heard. And as of today, I've been training there consistently (almost every day) for about seven months. So here are some highlights: - The classes are high-energy, fun, and they will seriously kick your butt. Whether you're a beginner who finally left the couch to pursue a healthy lifestyle, or you're an athlete who's been kicking and punching your entire life, you can find your fitness home there. The environment is positive, encouraging, and not at all intimidating. So if you want to get super fit and have an awesome time beating the crap out of a punching bag, you can totally do that. It not only feels GREAT, but it's really motivating, and it keeps you wanting to come back. My boxing and kickboxing techniques have improved drastically, and my training here has only enhanced the other areas of my life. When I travel for work, I even start having withdrawal symptoms. When I say "clean", I don't mean that someone half-heartedly wipes down the equipment with a dirty rag every week or so.
