While classic cake did make the cake as requested I was a touch disappointed in the artistry considering the amount I paid. I paid $190 for something that I honestly think I could have gotten from the grocery store. The cake taste was ok. I just think for the price there are other options out there. I felt like the cake should have had more flowers and didn't really capture the aesthetic I discussed on the phone with the woman at the short hills deli location. I absolutely adore this place! The store itself is so contemporary and modern. The aroma of the bakery smells wonderful as soon as you step foot inside their store. A major plus for me was the fact that it just looks and feels clean and the staff is super friendly and they make you feel so welcome. I ordered a specialty cake here for my father-in-laws 60th birthday. Being a perfectionist and paying close attention to details their were a few minor flaws. But after taking the first bite into the cake everything else disappeared. We decided in a strawberry cream filling pound cake. I came in for a cake tasting and all was fine and well, until I saw them bring out a box from the FREEZER and throw it in the microwave. Then they brought it to me like it was nothing! The cakes were okay, but it certainly didn't help knowing where they came from. I guess I understand that you can't make everything fresh every single day, but can you AT LEAST take it out of the freezer several hours before my appt, instead of haphazardly nuking it? I was so excited to move back to NJ after being deprived of good bakeries in Florida. When I moved back up here I tried many different authentic Italian bakeries that were all subpar to what I was expecting. I was so happy to come across this place just by driving past frequently. This is the only place I want my Birthday cake from. The red velvet is to die for! I have also tried the brownies, cookies, cupcakes, and separate slices of cakes. Everything have been amazing. The ladies have always been very accommodating and helpful. They usually have free samples at the register which is typically dangerous. Overall I highly recommend Classic Cake. To my understanding this is a chain and a lot of the baking is not done on premises but I could care less because the quality and freshness still seem to be there. read more

We bought a cake for my son's birthday a few months ago and my wife really liked how it looked but I thought it was just OK. Before we bought the cake they gave us samples of like five different types of cake and each was terrible. I remember one was a red velvet with frosting that was not buttery-tasting at all. If you want a good red velvet (cup) cake, have a taste of Indulgence Cupcakery's . I have no idea where all these rave reviews came from. The samples I had seriously tasted like supermarket bakery cake. Maybe I got a bad batch? Probably not considering there were different varieties. A bunch of the reviewers who rated this place 5 starts mention that they've been coming here for years and years, so it must be a tradition thing. If you want some cool design, then maybe this place might be good for that, but if you want a *delicious* cake, try Miel Patisserie or probably just about any other bakery. I've been buying Classic Cakes since they were on Springdale road. We feel like the cake is as important as the decorations and sets the mood for the entire table. I used to get 3 to 5 specialty cakes a year from here; generally running between $300 and $400. They were delicious and beautiful, but, now they're made somewhere else and shipped over. I believe, the decorating portion is still done on site; which is great if you like fondant icing. They get upset if you want butter cream for anything other than flowers or balloons. The cake is a little dry on top and soggy on bottom; probably from being refrigerated. It's a shame. They used to be our guilty pleasure, now, you might as well go to Shoprite. read more

I was trying to help her in case she didn't know. Her response, that it was crazy. Utterly undermining and disrespectful. You can't sell bad product and mistreat clients. I bought a cake with my credit card. The woman/manager behind the counter never gave it back to me. I asked her for it and she said that she gave it back to me. She did not. I never left the counter and only brought my wallet in. I called visa from my car and canceled the card. A customer after me knocked on my car window and said the manager found it and was laughing about it but visa would not reactivate a canceled card. Not only did they accomodate us by redoing the cake, they had the cake delivered to our school personally by Barry, the owner! The cake was GORGEOUS and better than I had ever expected. Not only did they copy a design that was given to them to a "T", but the flavor was out of this world! The icing was perfect and full of a beautiful shimmer, and they had a chocolate buttercream filling that was to die for! Classic Cake just gained a bunch of new customers from our school! Classic Cakes provided me a wedding cake for my recent wedding. They were the company that my venue works with. When my husband and I went in for the consultation we were pleased with the choices that were offered to us and the placed looked amazing. We loved all the cakes they had on display and were pleased with our decision we made about our cake. Now a friend of mine had decorated my cake but they put the basics of what I wanted on my Alice In Wonderland inspired cake. We decided that half my 4 tier cake would be red velvet with chocolate fudge and the other half vanilla with vanilla frosting. Pricing for the cake wasn't outrageous which we were pleased with. Now about a few weeks till my wedding my husband got a phone call from they saying they weren't sure my cake would hold up travel with a red velvet base and they thought it would be best to change it and give me a sheet cake of red velvet. My husband told them it wasn't what I wanted and that the base should stay red velvet. I'm sorry but if you are a professional cake company than you know how to stabilize a cake so it has no problem being transfered. My wedding day comes and I'm cutting into my cake and to my surprise its not red velvet. I am not happy so I cut into another layer and again no red velvet. I am mad at this point so I cut into a third layer and still no red velvet. I was assured by my mater d that my cake was as I had planned it and it wasn't. I didn't even eat the cake because I was so upset that it wasn't what I wanted. My experience with Classic Cakes was fine but when it came down to it and speaking with another bride who had a wedding at the same venue I did, who they advised her of changing her cake as well, I would not go back to them. Our wedding cake tasting was relatively easy. We had 6 different cakes to taste. My favorite was the lemon cake with raspberry frosting! I liked that we could select various different combinations for our 3 tiered cake and upgrade per our taste. Must try the fudge! It is really rich and decadent. One suggestion I have would be to have a portfolio/photos of actual wedding cakes and explain the cake terminology. I have no idea what beading is or gum paste. I did know fondant! I ordered a tray of mini pastries for a birthday party. The girl never gave me a receipt just took my first name, I paid up front. She told me just give my name when I pick up. Well I went to pick up on Sunday February 24th and there was no order ever placed. The sales girl was trying to be accommodating offering a made up tray of mini pound cakes and I asked her to put some brownies, it was just okay obviously not what I ordered. If you want to savor the best cheesecake I've ever had in my entire life (yes, I've tried hundreds of cheesecakes) then look no further. Every birthday of mine I get a fruit-topped or strawberry-topped cheesecake and it is always as fresh and creamy and rich as I'd had the last year. I have converted SO MANY FRIENDS to Classic Cake. I usually get a small, which feeds 10-15 people and it costs just under $40. I don't recommend their cookies- too hard for my taste. I like them chewy and gooey. Their cupcakes are pretty average, which should tell you something about their cakes. I ordered a red velvet cake from here just in Feb '11 and it was too dry and not moist at all. If you're looking for a cake go to Sweet Eats in Voorhees (EXCELLENT and moist). If you're looking for a cheesecake- stick with Classic Cake. read more

Classic made a bridal shower cake for my daughter and not only was it delicious but they nailed the décor to a T!! A challenge for sure because the bride is a wildlife biologist so it had to be unconventional. With one photo and an idea, they came up with a beautiful color scheme on a 2 tier cake and a small matching sheet cake. Everyone at the shower, including the restaurant staff was so impressed. On top of that the staff was extremely rude and nasty. They clearly have no concept of what it means to be customer-oriented. This bakery is totally overrated. I was fortunate enough to grow up with amazing birthday cakes and holiday treats from Classic Cake Co. My mother would often take me to the bakery when I was a little girl and it was still at the Eagle Plaza location. I've since moved away, which might be a good thing ( if I lived nearby I would probably eat their baked goodies all the time - not good ;) ) Now, whenever my mother comes to town for a visit she makes sure to always bring some Classic Cake treats - usually s'mores cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and fresh whole grain bread. My son/her grandson particularly likes the chocolate chip cookies she brings, and it makes me glad to know that now he can experience just how incredible their baked goods are.
