This library has so many resources! There's a quiet reading room and a not so quiet reading room. There are programs for teens and the elderly. Renewing my library card was a piece of cake. Also, the book sale is half price on the first Friday of the month. There are some good finds here. read more

Good luck to anyone coming here expecting simple service (if that). I needed to make a copy of an urgent sheet document I had. The biased senior middle aged bald heavy-set guy behind the counter in the computer room told me the copy machine is down due to unspecified reasons giving me the impression nothing can't be done and return next day. However, the least he could've recommended me in pointing me to the right direction about another copy machine close to the main entrance, I thankfully I saw from a distance by luck for use instead of him withholding that info which is beyond me. Public service is an assigned right for those working at a business library establishment and shouldn't be treated as a privilege. Seriously, going the extra mile in any simple help is priceless. read more

What's more amazing than knowing! On a recent visit to this library, truly It's been way too long. We have to get out more and celebrate the library. With the children grown now, and the days of homeschooling past us. The days of the library seem like a distant dream. We are reawakening the days of old . Dust off that library card, in fact mine expired. It's now all renewed. It does not even cost a cent . Our library here hosts a collection of events that are free or cost so less that you would not even have to pay much for your entertainment expenses. Some of the shows here are good. We used to exist here. Not so much now, but many times and hours spent here. If you have not been to this library come on over it's got multiple levels and little nooks to hide with your favorite book. They have videos to check out and you might be surprised that they get in all the newest titles . You can reserve that one you want and pick it up too. I loved this library. It has 3 floors, but I only explored the main floor (2nd). There seemed to be things there for everyone of every age. It was a truly impressive place. We went specifically to visit the Bookstore and omg it was HUGE! There were so many sections! Classics, Pets/Animals, Sports, Religion, Spirituality, Motherhood, Cooking, Politics, True Crime, Fiction, Plays, Children's, Mass Market Paperbacks, Reader's Digest books, DVDs, magazines, encyclopedias. It was an experience! First Fridays the store is 50% off! Definitely highly recommend!! read more

This review is for the library's theater area (called Paul C. Blau Theater), where I had my annual singing recital here. Our recitals were previously held at Family Music Centers on Sahara and Buffalo, but apparently they are closing and moving to a different location, and their new location does not have a theater. My voice coach held her recitals here many moons ago, way before my time with her, actually. The recital took place on a Saturday morning, which happened to be on my parents' anniversary, so I wanted to make my performance extra special for them, plus one song that I was singing was my anniversary gift to them. Our past recitals didn't start until later in the afternoon, but the entire theater was booked up that day, except for an 11:30am time slot. When I walked in, they were selling tickets at the door, which was confusing because our recital was free of charge, then I was told that there was a separate dance recital going on in the same building (tickets were required to enter that recital), but in the library's main theater. Paul C. Blau theater was downstairs to the left. Myself and my peers did an excellent job performing our musical numbers. Afterwards, we all celebrated with cookies that my voice coach made herself. The acoustics were excellent and overall it's just a great theater for any occasion. It was also nice to not hear loud music blaring and muffled yelling from behind me, which was the case at Family Music Centers, which was next door to a laser tag place. The restrooms here at the library were neat and tidy, too! The only downside of the library is that there were a bunch of homeless people hanging out on the sidewalk and near the entrance that brings you to the theater. I drove there by myself as I was meeting my entire family and peers inside. I was dressed nice for the recital, so I was concerned walking to the theater alone with nobody else around me. Thankfully nothing questionable happened to me, but for my safety, I made sure to go on the other side of the street and cross back when I reached the parking lot when leaving the library. read more

My friend invited me to go with her to a free show at Clark County Library. It was my first visit there, and not only was I super impressed with the show, but also the library itself. It is huge and has features like an art exhibit, huge info walls, a large theater (where we attended the show), a teen center, etc. There are three stories, and I was only on the first floor, so I'd love to see the rest of the library. I was already impressed with the first floor, though! They also have a young kids area. My friend's husband had taken their toddler to the library play area, and he said that it was nice and their toddler enjoyed it. I plan to bring my toddler to the young kids area sometime in the future. It looks like this library also has tons of really cool events happening all the time, which is great for the community. The only reason I gave this library four stars instead of five was because of how it handles the homelessness issue in the immediate vicinity. As a county facility, you'd think they'd try harder to offer better options/solutions for the people who find themselves in these situations. I'd imagine each person has their own unique story and reason for being where they are. Why not start by trying to figure out what those stories and reasons are if the people are literally living there in tents, in the library, etc.? Once you figure out why they're there, you can know the right way to help each of them (solutions are going to look different for each person based on the reasons, be it reasons related to the economy, drugs, mental health, etc.). If you don't know the reasons, you'll waste resources attempting to fix the wrong thing. I hope the county can begin to figure out how to tackle this issue at its own facilities! read more

What an amazing find!!! My church group rented and used the theater for a performance, and I was blown away at this entire place! There are absolutely so many amazing resources and things to do at this library. I could spend an entire day here and never get bored. The facility is maintained to a level of impeccable cleanliness. The staff are very helpful. The facility has great systems & routines in place to make for an effortless experience for anyone visiting. As for the theater, it had just about anything you could ever need or want for putting on a performance. They offer several shows throughout the year. Just check their bulletin to see what's offered. Excellent library and theatre on East Flamingo Rd. The library itself is a very large, multi level structure. The theatre is also a larger than expected venue that can probably accommodate in the area of 150 or more...the theatre is very nice and has excellent sound as well. There are numerous events held here, most of which are free, ranging from cinema to performance art to live music...the "bookstore" inside of the library is also an outstanding place to purchase used books, magazines, CD's and DVD's, at greatly reduced prices...the hours for the bookstore are somewhat sketchy so check before you head there...the performance on a Friday evening after the library was closed for the night was exceptional, unfortunately it wasn't very well advertised as the theatre was close to empty...the amount of homeless that are now in the area is also of concern, during the day the security does a good job of keeping the area safe, after hours spoke otherwise....that aside this is still a very good place to visit for a myriad of reasons....RECOMMEND read more

Went for the first time today. Spent a few hours reading, using the computer lab and checking out the theater. Excellent customer support staff, clean restrooms FREE filtered water (bring a water vessel), feee WiFi although I had connection issues so I utilized my personal hotspot. Love this library. They have so much to offer the community. They offer monthly presentations about Art, Entertainment, History and Literature. I attended the "40th Anniversary of Donn Arden's Jubilee" It was held in the main theater just off to the side of the front entrance. There's a bit of parking on the side road, but main parking is to the back of the building. The theater is very beautiful and temperature wise.. felt amazing as that day it was close to 117* outside at 2pm! The panel consisted of two retired Showgirls 'Janet Spelman' and 'Tricia Leibovici with costume designer/assistant to Mr. Arden 'Diana Eden' Love hearing their stories about performing onstage and offstage. Great history there! And Diana Eden had intimate details as to how each costume was constructed rhinestone by rhinestone, feather by feather. Fascinating! Met up with some fellow performers who attended and also met a few performers for the first time. Even though we all performed on the strip, we didn't always run into to each other, so was a good time! Lots of upcoming events for August. If you're one of the people writing a review to say this library is great but you wish it were in a better area of town, sit down. You're missing the point entirely. This library is exactly what it's meant to be: a huge asset to the community in the area. Free wifi, computer usage, community events showcasing the arts, childrens and adult activities, adult skills training, and a treasure trove of books and media. I've only been a couple of times, and while their literary selection is expansive (there are three floors of books here!), it's the community events I come for- there is a theater that puts on concerts and performances, with flyers posted in the lobby and promoted on their website. Everything from big band to belly dance to master gardening classes and hula demos, they've got it all. Check out their online calendar (there's often multiple events a day) and come by. read more

My experience at this particular library has not been pleasant. This library is unfortunately located in a high crime area where there are a lot of homeless people who walk around. Their restrooms are not very clean whenever I go to them. Hopefully, they will make improvements in the future. read more

Homeless shelter or library? Place to bring your family or halfway house? Full of homeless people, not the sane kind. People legit whipping out hot plates and cooking. It may be fine if it did not interfere with looking at books, but you got some violent or disturbed ones that will get in your place or just keep yelling. Not exactly a nice place to read. I use to love chilling at the library, but unfortunate in Vegas all the libraries are like this, but this one is by far the worst. I had so many good memories as a kid coming here. Now you got a crazy person slamming on the desk over and over and nothing is enforced. This is more a problem with the government and how they now treat people who need help, but the fact is this place is not safe to go to and especially DO NOT bring your family. They need a lot more security. read more

Though we are not residents, my wife and I have visited this library countless times most recently to attend the Las Vegas Pipe Band's annual Celtic Thanksgiving show. The facility is intimate with most if not all seats having a good view of the large stage. The acoustics for this show were just good, not great, but I am not sure if issue rests with the facility or the performers. We parked on Escondido St facing the auditorium's entrance though most attendees availed themselves of the larger lot immediately behind the library. This review pertains to the main Clark County Library Branch (on East Flamingo Road). It does not touch on the theater, events, or library district. This Main Library Branch falls short of my expectations for a respectable main library branch. And secondary library branch for that matter. These days the Main Library Branch appears more like a mental hospital annex than a library. Inside and outside the library, homeless people loiter to the point that some are using it as a Motel 6. The drug and alcohol epidemic is the constant exhibit. The restrooms are repulsive. The incapable security guards are totally dysfunctional. For example, earlier, a mentally ill man was raging at a librarian for waking him up. I am appalled at how slow the security guard handled the disturbance. Ineffective security also creates an intimidating environment to walk outside the building. Libraries, especially the main branch are supposed to be symbols of civic pride; this one is a symbol of the effects of drug use and alcoholism. Comparable to some of the Clark County Library branches, the Main Branch instock is the very image of a Border's "Going Out of Business Sale". On account of a new Clark County Library policy, patrons are allowed endless renewals. The consequence is that some of the library patrons bookshelf collection is growing while the library' s collection is becoming bare. Comparable to all the Clark County Library branches, the hours of operation are absurd, yet better than the Henderson Library District. It is unacceptable to close at 7 P.M. weekdays and 5 P.M. on weekends. Especially when a large percentage of patrons leave work after 4 P.M. In my most honest opinion, the Main Branch fails to inspire people to develop a reading habit. It will most likely inspire people not to abuse drugs or alcohol. read more

It's a large library and the staff are professional, kind and helpful. We were there for a presentation on Howard Hughes in the Theater. The theater was spacious and comfortable. The presentation was very interesting and left you wanting more. They have several future events that I will be checking out. read more

Came to the theatre for the Edible Vegas Series and listen to a discussion about the Las Vegas food scene...the panel consisted of Yelp las Vegas' own Misti Y. and Yelper Jillian P., along with Las Vegas food critics Al Mancini and Brock Radke with John Curtas as the moderator. It was a good discussion overall, but got a little outta hand when Mancini and Radke were trying to talk down on Yelp and other social networking sites as competition for their profession...Misti and Jillian held it down for Yelp though....Wooooohooooo!(and so did half the audience-all Yelp Baby!) After all was said and done, everyone was cool, and there were bites from Retro Bakery waiting outside the theater.....ALOHA!!! read more

Much like several other libraries around town, this one has a problem with being a dwelling of the homeless during the day, which makes any prolonged stays rather unenjoyable. There aren't too many places to sit and study and the ones that are there were mostly occupied when I was there. I am not a fan of the overall layout, either. And yeah, not the best part of town. But I can only gripe so much, because I do dig having public libraries around. read more

The public library fails miserably in it's mission statement. Based on DEI, there should be utilization of the library based on demographics of the library but certain people are drive out because the library has become a daytime homeless shelter and a small clique of security guards that do NOT represent DEI. Would be nice to see some Hispanic, Asian, and/or White security guards who don't seem to get driver out. Staff is lazy and when I bring things to their attention, especially violation of Code of Conduct and Rules, they do not enforce and see you as a complainer and a problem and to get out of here if you don't like it. After school teens use it as a social area with pants pulled down and underwear showing, shouting obscenities, and staff and guards condone it as well as administration that I have sent emails to. Instead, I am the one who needs to move away from this commotion. There also seems to be reverse discrimination as guards pick on part of the population that are generally too fearful to use this public library. Washing and sex or sex propositioning in the bathroom - they enter through the theater area and use it as a quick get away. Security guards cluster into little cliques roaming like a gang versus monitoring individually. Rule is warn sleeping people three times before asking them to leave for the day but just don't given warning and let them sleep there all day taking up an entire table. Must be a lot of exception issues by the director of the library for all the oversize bags. While some homeless are just homeless, others can and often seem to be mentally ill. The outside of the library, good luck in parking outside the theater area as sidewalks and parking spaces filled with carts and people who loiter. Oh, I just saw a sign: Sleeping is prohibited in the library. Lack of enforcement. The theater is the only good things about the library. I see that gets high marks. read more

This is honestly the most disappointing library in town. I remember from my childhood that it wasn't the best either, but compared to the other newer libraries in town, this one definitely hasn't even attempted to try and get better. First of all, the organization is terrible. Parents and children are separated, which is great if you aren't a parent, but if you are, well, don't leave your child behind because it's a bad part of town. I highly recommend sticking with your child in the germ infested children's area. I am an avid young adult fiction reader because I don't want to step into the adult reads yet, I love the cute teenage high school romances, but their section at this library is literally THREE bookshelves worth. If you're a YA fiction reader yourself, please go somewhere else like the Centennial Hills Library or the Windmill Library where they have 5 ROWS of YA fiction books for you to read. I hope this library is able to step it up sometime soon. read more

This library definitely has the charming vintage feel to it. But it is fairly large with a good diverse collection of books and periodicals for library patrons to read on premise or check out. Besides the expected books & videos checkout service that we have all come to expect of public libraries, there are also meeting and theater space on premise that hosts events throughout the year. The theater is pretty big, about the size of a decent size lecture room with theater style seating. Besides the Used Book Store (my favorite), the theater is the main reason for me to visit here when hosting special events like lecture series, entertaining programming, and informative discussion panels. There are also computers with Internet access available on both a first come first serve basis and those that can be reserved in advance with your library card. A very nice service for those without access to the computer or Internet at home. The collection of foreign language magazines is also very respectable. I especially enjoy browsing the Japanese magazines with the glossy food pictures with recipes that I sadly can not read. But sometimes it is fun and inspiring just to see the pictures. But there are also additional English language-based publications from the UK and Australia in this collection (located on the basement level, same floor as the theater). Although this library is not located in my neighborhood, I always find time to visit here at least once a month. There are just a lot of neat reading materials that are not found in some of the other Clark County Library System branches. If you have never been to this library, I highly recommend paying a visit to this library to see what the other newer libraries may not have. 4 stars! read more

I like the theater here and the fact that they host free events. I come here every year for the Reel Rock Tour. However, I've come here to read a few times and I just feel too uncomfortable to hang around. There are a lot of people sleeping in the cubicles and it's just not the nicest library, especially compared to the ones in Summerlin. But I definitely appreciate what this library offers the community in terms of free events and other resources. I hope it sticks around. read more

This has replaced the library on LV blvd as bum central. It was a better library not very long ago, but seems a way station for Greyhound as much as a decent place to get media. The faux facade they were really proud of is peeling and crumbling. I do like the performing arts they have here. The theater is pretty nice. I'd dare say this is the place among LV libraries for the best performances. I'm also digging the bookstore here (when its open).They've moved it recently from downstairs to upstairs. It has been a reliable place for deals on occasion. Be careful taking children here. They have security, but the public that comes here is on the dicey side. Not one to let the kids roam without direct and close observation. read more

If I ever need to go to a library, I go to this one, since it's the closest to my house. You can check out books, DVD's & CD's (keep in mind there is a waiting list for popular titles). I haven't had any real trouble here except there was a snag with the late fees- I don't know how it happened but the books I returned didn't register in the system and I incurred late fees; but I got it all sorted out and my account was wiped clean. Lot of people come here to study so please be quiet. I've always liked going to the library, since I was in junior high school. It's literally a wealth of information. There are computers, tables, and chairs in the main section of the library. The books are relatively easy to find, since the subjects are in front of each aisle of books. The convenient drop-boxes are outside, if you want to avoid the long line; also there is a donation drop-box for your unwanted books or magazines. When it's busy, it will be difficult to find a parking space. The self-service checkout comes in handy, when you want to check out new books. The staff is usually nice, but every once in a while, you will get someone in a bad mood. The lobby is usually displaying local art work (different mediums) for a specific amount of time- I like seeing those displays; it's nice to see fresh talent. There is a "discarded books" section in the lower level (use the elevator) of the library where you can books for super cheap, if you don't mind the library stickers (this is where some of your donations end up). There is also a theater section for special events (the calendar, along with other free publications as well as a bulletin board, is located in the lobby, when you walk through the doors). read more

This library is okay. Close to work and has the book that I wanted to read where Henderson Public Library do not have. I guess I am so impress by Paseo Verde Library that this place seems to be sub-par. When I walked into Paseo Verde Library, I smell the nice coffee aroma. Here at Clark County, I smell a bad stinky smell that I rather not write about. On top of that, the lady that I had to go see to sign up for a library card isn't that friendly. Hmmm, it's okay, but I will only come back if the lovely Paseo Verde Library doesn't have the book I want. read more

I used to love this library but lately they have allowed the homeless to take over. The homeless besides emitting a smell that gags you from 20 feet away the library officials are allowing them to bring in any type of food they want. 5 gallon jugs of koolaide? No problem, I've seen them eating greasy fried chicken while perusing a book. I've reported this to library officials and they said as long as the don't use electric appliances such as hot plates. The library is paid for by tax payers and tax payers should be given some consideration. The library no longer feels like a safe place to to my children and that is a shame. read more

Attention to all you BOOK LOVERS who still love to hold a book and flip pages! There is a hidden treasure in this public library: The Bookstore. Located at the back area to the left next to the teenage section. The best place to find all kinds of books for mostly $1. You can find books ranging from non-fiction like religion, travel, biography, history, cookbooks, self-help, references, academic books, sports, Etc. There are also a whole range of fiction books, children's books and magazines such as the National Geographic. This bookstore are run by volunteers and they are all very friendly and helpful. Open daily. Books, magazines, dvds, CDs and LPs are all donated from the public community. You can donate any kind of books you no longer need and want. Some of the books are out-dated but they are mostly in good condition. Some are still brand new. You can also find books that are a few years old or recent editions. You definitely can't beat the price! Only $1. All proceeds go directly back to the Clark County Public Library so you are helping a good cause. As for the library itself, it is a large library. Plenty of seats to read and study. Although I have to say the smell is less than desirable. That's my only complaint. Check out this Bookstore.
