We had a return and a donation. Also checked out a couple of books too. Paid my late fine. We finally got to check out the Book store. Guess we usually come on a saturday, and it wasn't open. Pricing is very good. We didn't find anything. Has well-stocked shelves in many different categories, even foreign language items, which surprised me. I know some languages, other than English. But only fully fluent, about 80%, in one of my mom's languages (she knows four languages, fluently). Noticed that the display cases inside of the main lobby have been moved. First time in Sahara West Library. It is an two floors large library that had nice layout. At the main entrance there's restrooms to the left and where self checkout area is located. Second floor had homework center for kiddos to do homework after school hours and children books located on top right. They also had large audio book corner and DVD selections on the first floor. They had three security guys in the front area. They all were spread out and one of the guy was patrolling around which I felt safe. I do wish some people would mute there phones since it is in the library. They had nice artwork displayed on the way to second floor. Variety of books to read through the second floor. I would recommend this libray if your in the area. read more

Great library, great library programs and classes and some of the best staff, especially in kids area. This library is a fantastic resource for home schoolers. Sahara even had a free art gallery. Its very clean in comparison to others I do wish the bathrooms had papertowls instead of air dryers that only out germs back on your hands. The library could use a littlr update in the bathrooms. However i am so so greatful for this wonderful neighborhood resorce. read more

We pass by the Sahara West Library often and always wanted to visit this place. We are so glad that we stopped in. I agree with other people they say that it's a "hidden gem." This Library is very spacious two stories, clean, lots of seating areas, study rooms, event space to hold meetings, etc., a used bookstore, an Fine Arts Museum with special art collections featuring different artists, various art work placed in glass cabinets in the lobby area at the entrance, kind and helpful staff, it's peaceful and not to mention a wide variety of books, DVD's, CD's, a great children's section and so much more! To be honest I thought it was only the first floor and I was thinking this is it?!Then I asked the Security Guard on duty what's upstairs and he told us there's more books, seating areas, the children's section, etc. When we got there we were surprised to see another level of Library goodness. I love this library's little kids section! I used to come here when I was a undergrad student at UNLV, for homework & reading. Many years later, I am bringing my two-year old son to this beautiful & modern library. I noticed that there is a toy checkout section, which I haven't utilized yet. I was pleasantly surprised at the many different choices of fun toys for toddlers. My son is fascinated with oceanic creatures. And I asked one of the female Liberians to help me look for ocean board books. And she was so nice & took her time & found two books for my son. I also appreciate a myriad of magnet puzzles there. They also have a kitchen play-set with a variety of toy foods & pots and pans. read more

My online Libby account was no longer working. I called the library to get help in managing the account. We were unable to fix it over the phone. I had to into the library. I love this library! It's so beautiful. The newest art exhibit is the Showgirl Gallery! Since I am a former showgirl at Les Folies Bergere, I felt so happy to see some of the original costumes on display! I actually had a few tears, it was so nostalgic for me. All the stunning art work from local artists is magnificent! If you're interested in the history of the legacy of the showgirl, this is an exhibition to go see! Until Dec 10th! What a fantastic Library! I was recently visiting my mom in Las Vegas and we were looking for something to do that was inexpensive and easy to get too. I found the Las Vegas Museum at this Library. It's three galleries each one devoted to a different artist there were some great artwork in the galleries. Outside in the lobby area there was exhibit on space and there were some interactive machines that were fun. They didn't really seem to be working that well but they were very interesting. There was also a display of things made out of Legos, they have a theater where they put on shows and they also have a very nice bookstore where they sell used books and media. My husband spent quite a bit of time there and we bought several items. The actual Library we never went into.. well we wouldn't have been able to check out any books anyways. I know if we lived in Las Vegas my husband would be spending lots of time at this place he loves libraries. Great job that they did with this one. The only reason for the four stars is because I don't know what their actual Library collection was but this is a great place to go. read more

I've now visited several libraries in the Vegas area, and this one is my favorite for wide open spaces to work/write/draw. There seems to be an issue with getting cell signal, not just inside the library, but even once I left my GPS would not return until closer to downtown Vegas. However, that only forced me to enjoy the library more. There's 3 Art studios inside, with some really great pieces I enjoyed. I love the new campaign "Free to be" throughout all the local libraries. This location has large meeting rooms where I truly enjoyed a theater class. Take the time to check out this place. It was worth the 20 minute drive for me. read more

Yes, this is absolutely 5-stars for a good library in Las Vegas. Clean, modern, resourceful, organized, and very unique. City spent good money here compared to most other public libraries around town. Found this to be my favorite. Everything met my expectations here. Art galleries are my favorites. This location had a very open space and spacious art gallery environment. Perfect art displays. There's no better one at other locations. I would book this place for art displays and exhibitions. Public restrooms next door to art gallery. The discounted book store or gift shop space is a winner. Nothing over $2 per piece. Lots of foreign language books too. You can donate books. Staffs were all very helpful and friendly. Passionate and hardworking. Loved all the available tables and chairs throughout the library. Huge inside. They even have an area for break time or if you need to grab something to eat & drink from vending machines. Loved the good lighting and high ceilings. Everything feels new and modern. Love spacious new feelings. Relaxing. Not too loud or overcrowded. Book aisles and computer areas were very organized. If you need to book a quiet room/meeting room, they have plenty to select from. That's a huge bonus. All rooms were unique and clean. Well designed. Lots of comfortable seats all around too. Must love. This is my favorite library in town for sure. Sahara West inside is big open spaces so you can have some distance from the homeless that populate the library but it believe it or not some of the staff and security are the problem. Security has used derogatory language describing a patron and has teamed up with an employee to mock and laugh at guests. Manager will just give you the run around or completely ignore any complaints, who knows who is in charge. Most of the staff seem helpful and pleasant but a few bad apples can ruin the whole bunch. Head of security has not followed through on fixing issues. They just call you crazy and ignore you. I have tried to contact administration but get no response. Other patrons talk too loud, too long or bother you, some walk around reading and listening to headphones disturbing other guests or suddenly getting up and running across library yelling. Kids are always screaming. Not a good experience if you're trying to concentrate or work quietly. Been visiting daily since March and it has gotten worse read more

Hands down this is my FAVORITE library in Las Vegas!! Place is always clean and tidy and the staff are very courteous and kind. I'm such a nerd for art and supporting new and local artists...they have a mini gallery for your viewing! Bookstore is organized and clean and the ladies are ever so sweet and helpful! Lots of great finds in there! Only feedback I would give is that the security guard didn't greet or offer to assist me when I obviously appeared lost in the building trying to find my way to the computer lab. He seemed too preoccupied on his phone and just sitting at the table. Not a good look at all. However, I will definitely visit again soon!! read more

Lots of space to work and with two stories, this library is larger than most other ones I visited. The layout is rather modern and there are other cute programs like adult sticker art work etc that inspires one to stay longer and absorb knowledge. The only thing is the wifi system throughout the Las Vegas library system doesn't work that well. Only my laptop was able to get on after some tries and not my iPad and phone. Overall pretty impressive and welcoming place. read more

I wanted to give this place a 5, but their Wi-Fi sucks lol There are 2 options: one for 18+ or 17-. It'll say it's connected, but it's not. I've tried both. I always end up using my own hotspot for my laptop. Other than that, I really like their study rooms here. You can use one for 2 hours a session. You can close the doors for a little bit more privacy. I've been here with 2 of my friends, and so far it's the library I prefer the most. read more

What tourist comes to Sin City to visit a public library? A screwy one like me. And I don't even like to read. Let me explain what led me here. I was unhappy with the current exhibition at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, the UNLV museum was closed, and the Wynn Collection has long since been stored away. Looking for options, I searched the internet for other places to see art and found the public libraries in Vegas have art galleries. A big modern building with lots of parking, three exhibitions filled three large and airy galleries. Diverse, creative, and well made, the smartly curated content covered Scott Bauer's wordplay paintings, Natalie Christensen's photography that looked like paintings, and pottery from the local club. On future trips to Vegas, I'll not only consider returning here but the many other public library branches that also have art galleries. read more

As a programmer who works remotely, and who lives right next door, I work from the Sahara West Library all the time! Overall, I have been pretty happy with my experiences there. INTERNET CONNECTION: Solid. I am a web developer and have had no problems doing what I do there. My one gripe is that the page where you log in to their wifi is difficult to use. I've got it figured out, but as someone who designs software for a living, I am 100% sure that there are people who try to sign on, can't figure it out, and just quit and go home. I told someone at the tech desk about this, he gave some excuse that he doesn't think they'll be able to fix it, I mentioned that I'm a developer and am confident that it can be fixed, and he just brushed it off. HOURS: They are open 10am-8pm Monday through Friday, and until 8pm on weekends. _Fantastic!_ I love that they are open on weekends, and are open late on weekdays! NOISINESS: Ok. It's usually pretty quiet, although sometimes there will be people who are loud. DEMOGRAPHICS: I see a big mix of people there. A bunch of families, some students, a good deal of older people. STAFF: I actually haven't rented too many books from them, but in the few occasions I have, I have found the staff to be great! I've found them to be really knowledgeable and eager to help. One time I had to do some weird file transfers from a USB drive to Box.com that even I as a software developer was having trouble figuring out. I asked one of the guys at the tech desk to help me and he spent about twenty minutes sitting with me until it was working. SEATING: It can get pretty crowded there. Sometimes you'll have to walk around for a while to find a place to sit. One gripe I have is that there aren't really enough outlets to charge your laptop/phone/whatever. Some tables have them, but many don't. Sometimes I find myself needing to charge my laptop but unable to really find a place to charge it, which is frustrating. INDIVIDUAL STUDY ROOMS: There are a good amount of them available, although they get booked fast and are thus hard to find. One gripe I have with them is that I always find them to be too hot or too cold, and also too stuffy, so I avoid them. read more

One of the largest, and best libraries in Las Vegas. Absolutely LOVE the giant children's section. The Librarians and staff here are so fun and really dedicated to their jobs. Not sure where the finding comes from for their events, because sadly, our CCLD Libraries all struggle, but when they do it up they DO IT UP. The imagination and attention to detail that the whole staff put into it is incredible. We LOVE this location. It is not anywhere near our house, but we travel across town periodically to go there. We love our small & friendly local branch, but I feel like if we lived close to this branch, we'd practically live at the Sahara West Library! read more

I love how organized everything and everyone is. I love the different programs offered all throughout the week and special events on the weekend. Their hours of operation during the weekday is until 8pm and 6pm Friday through Sunday. It's always clean in every section and their are plenty employees around to help you if you needed. There is a customer service booth as soon as you walk in and that is were you can renew or activate your library card. You will need a valid Nevada ID and email to activate your account. Check out and returns are super easy. You'll need your library card to check out books and for returns you only need the books. Email reminders are sent two days before your books are due and you can easily extend the check out by simply rechecking out the book. read more

Library is amazing! Very spacious and had an art exhibit! However, the security guard working Tuesday around noon is very rude. There are no signs anywhere and I have never ever been told I could not sit on the floor. It's MY choice. He was stern and rude stating I could not sit on the floor. What kind of control is he after? This was very weird and uncalled for. No signs saying I'm not allowed on the floor if I find that more comfortable I should be able to do so. read more

Especially with just moving to Las Vegas, I hadn't quite gotten around to getting WiFi. I figured, though, it would force me to get out more and look for places to study. And I'm so grateful because it led me to this library! While I haven't explored all the art museum parts of it, I am thankful that there are plenty of study stations equipped with Belkin outlets and USB plugs galore with steady public WiFi... a whole lot faster than using my personal hotspot at home! I forgot how libraries could be, very nostalgic for me. Wish I spent more time at libraries. But it was nice to get the reading ball rolling. Overall this is a nice facility, seems like friendly staff and easy registration for card just make sure you have mail with your name and current address as well as valid ID At first glance very large selection of books spanning two floors. However, there is a lot maybe the whole first floor of DVDs. Second floor had a fiction section but rows and rows of Danielle Steele and other similar romance novels. One little section titled classics. Here you can find titles like Fahrenheit 451, Wuthering Heights, and Great Gatsby. Well, I'll see how much I get through and maybe check other libraries. They do have cooking and craft books to check out which is always a win for me! I'm glad I made this step toward intellectual growth read more

Beautiful architectural building on the corner of Sahara on the Upper Westside peacefully tucked in the landscaped neighborhood. It is great to walk into this Library and immediately feel calm and peace especially while walking through the Art Museum rooms which always have interesting work on display. My Family enjoys quiet reading and educational time here and the Library Staff are always helpful and nice. They also have a Book Store which has great deals on books, magazines and CD's for everyone. read more

Got my library card! What a fabulous hidden gem of a library! Yes, there's even an art gallery here! You can check out books for 21 days! Free WI-FI! Kids section is fabulous with lots of room for them to wander and explore. Lots of DVD's to rent...but with 1,000 people on the waiting list for new releases... it may take a while to see those Blockbusters! Good thing I have Apple TV! Nice big windows with views of the pines and clouds. Modern and sleek building, quiet and with lots of natural light. Great place to escape for the afternoon! read more

My name is Daniel. S. Today the "S" is short for "Saying it loud and proud that I am a fan of books." When I am riding the rough waves in the sea of living, an entertaining book is my life preserver. Entertaining books take my mind on out of the world adventures from the 1964 Beatlemania to a walk across America with Peter Jenkins. My library card registration needed renewal. Facing a mountain of books headed toward an overdue fine, I had to pay up. The thing is that I am a bigger fan of outdoor recreation. I drove across the valley to combine the Sahara West Library with a hike on the Peccole Ranch Trail. Dating back to 2004, when I moved to Las Vegas, the Sahara West has always been one of my favorite libraries in the Las Vegas Clark County Library System. It is a large library that is an MGM Grand of books. The environment is cozy and immaculate. The only thing missing is a fireplace. The library is two floors. The adult and children's book collection lives upstairs in level two. All the biographies are featured under the individual categories. When it comes to books, I am a non-fiction kind of guy. Once I paid up, I made a bee-line upstairs to check out the rock & roll and celebrity biographies, hiking (poor selection), and city history books. With the exception of hiking, the selection of books in these categories is approved. My criticism is that the books the electronic card catalog stated as "available" were missing. It's a shame because this is one of the few libraries where the Whitney Houston biography was available. It's more than books that bring me into the doors of the library. In the downloading age, I still appreciate the physical CD. The Sahara West Library collection of CDs is substantial. When I walked out the Sahara West Library on my way to my next Yelp check-in, I walked to my car proud that I am a fan of books. If I am not too busy yelping, the books I borrowed will bring my mind on adventures with the Who and Jimmy Page. If you live in Las Vegas, I recommend visiting the Sahara West Library to borrow a book that will bring your mind on an awesome adventure. read more

A public library with free wifi, a bookstore, an art gallery, tons of local events, AND the latest best sellers available right inside the front door? So neat to have in Vegas, and so close by to my home and work. I haven't explored too much, but the main lobby has the library to one side, meeting space available by reservation, the gallery, and the bookstore all clearly marked on signage- with a giant board announcing upcoming events (meditation, yoga, ancestry research, and more). The newly released books section is just past the help desk on the right- and there are so many books there that they dragged over an additional cart to set them on. Books you just saw written up in you favorite magazine are here to take home today! Unheard of at other locations in Vegas, and in most libraries in general. As a bonus, the staff are extra-great: if you forgot your library card or drove your BF's car without your keytag handy, they'll look up your card code so you can still check out. read more

If there's something other than the strip that Vegas has going for it, it's their parks and their libraries. The Sahara library was a nice discovery after living a mile down the road for over 2 years. It looks like a huge, inconspicuous building with no signage from the main road but once you come around to the parking lot, you see how expansive this library is.. from their little bookstore to their events room, art gallery, teen room, children's area, group study rooms and more! I've been here a few times - once to work when my internet at home went down (made easy by their numerous tables, electrical outlets and decent WiFi), to use their printer, and to check out a book. It's quite easy to get a library card- bring a utility bill showing your address so you can get full privileges at this location. It's also a quick process with their self check out.. plus you can renew online easily! Tons of DVDs, music, magazines, and books.. oftentimes copies are limited but you can place a hold using your online account. Their system is fairly user friendly. The Clark County libraries have so many programs from music classes to after school activities to adult oriented interests which I can definitely appreciate! I look forward to bringing my twins here when they're a little older for story time! read more

Originally this library mesmerized me with its art gallery, women weaving in the entrance area, bookstore, interesting displays... Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that the book area - the quiet part - is the noisiest library ever - and I have lived (and libraried(?)) all over the world. Perhaps the librarians don't say anything to people as Americans are looking to get mad at everything. Nonetheless if the librarians themselves would at least carry on their side of the conversations in a hushed tone (instead of full volume as they do) the person they are talking to would connect the dots and speak quieter too. Then people trying to get work done would only need to contend with the other unchecked chatter boxes, screaming kids and frequent cell phone abusers. Maybe put some signs up reminding people that a library is a quiet place? On a side note the signs that point you toward employment assistant actually point you toward a guy that could not be bothered to do more than hand you a flyer, look put out by you and go back to flirting with the one women in the corner. That room is a wast of space. Please do something about the noise in the one part of the building that is suppose to be set aside as a quiet space to study, work and read! read more
