A coworker yelped this place and I KNEW I was going to be disappointed by the looks of the exterior. I never want to be a person to pre-judge anyone or anything. I got the catfish plate with Mac and cheese and fries. The fries were good af. I may be biased as I like potatoes anyways. The Mac and cheese was NOT GOOD. Very bland and barely any cheese on mine. Wish it was cheesier and creamier. And lastly the fried fish... it was decent. Edible. It great honestly and for the price you pay you might as well go to cheddars or Texas road house and get their fried fish and get more pieces. Overall disappointed as I was hoping it would be better. Im writing this review on the brinks of tears because I am pregnant and was craving soul food this by far was not soul food. I got two different plates one with ribs (they were the best out of all the rest) greens ehh ok and last was the baked beans it. But that indeed was the best plate out of the two. The second plate was wing plate (the wings were ok) Mac and cheese was completely disgusting it's like they made it from the Kraft box and tried to add something extra in it and the yams were in its own category not at all how I know of them to taste. Checked this out because of craving catfish but we knew it was a family operation in an old house, so we set modest expectations. Actually really enjoyed it because of it's basic homecooking soul food concept with no pretentious. Catfish was tasty, greens also satisfying but mash spuds I had doubts were from scratch. Banana pudding almost lived up to my childhood memories. Order at counter, don't expect ice beverages, and if you get music, count it as bonus ( thought their selections for blues were lovely). I wanted to like this place so bad and really struggled to finally come leave a review, but the purpose of this app is to provide feedback, good or bad, so here goes. This is some of the worst food I've ever had. Got the 3 meat plate w/ smothered pork chop, meatloaf, and "catfish." Pork chop was inedible because it was waaaaayyyy too salty. I believe in seasoning, but this tasted like a whole bottle of Lawry's tipped over on it and no one bothered to wash it off. The meatloaf was ok. The "catfish" is what pushed me over the edge to write this review. My biggest pet peeve is restaurants saying they have catfish, but it's basa or swai. I am a catfish connoisseur and this, my friends, is NOT catfish. Sides were yams, greens and mac n cheese. Yams were ok. Had a marshmallow taste, if you like that. Mac n cheese was ok. Needed more flavor. Greens were not available. So, I grab my order (after waiting way longer than quoted) and get in the car and half the order is missing. I state what I'm missing, which includes the greens, and I'm told they don't have greens and I should have gotten cabbage as a sub. Never heard of being given a sub that I didn't ask for and may not have wanted, but ok. The cabbage is also the reason for the review. Worst cabbage I've ever had. Mushy and tasted like it was boiled in unseasoned water that had a ton of pepper settled in the bottom. Zero taste or seasoning. They needed to transfer some of the salt from the pork chop. Cornbread was not very good. Also got a rib sandwich. Very shabby cuts that tasted like they were warmed in the microwave and slathered in bbq sauce. This is a small business that has great food. I have gotten their fried catfish a few times and the proper corn meal coating is always crispy, never greasy, and the fish is never dry. Their fries are home made and well seasoned, their yams are sweet and tender, and I love their greens. Right now you will want to call your ahead because they may take a minute but their food is definitely worth the wait.
