I am not at all religious, theological, or myopically ethnic, but what I experienced at Restaurant Climato tonight forced me to "center" on who I am, and what place I have in the world. We put our name in for dinner personally, as Climato takes no reservations. One hour later my phone rang, letting us know our table was ready. Immediately on entering Climato, a definitive chill was felt. A decidedly North African and Middle Eastern clientele and wait staff was evident, but it was no big deal to me. I have traveled to Morocco and Tunisia and loved my experience. Yet, the apparent aggressive tension took hold unexpectedly. The bartender was very cold, once we were seated at the bar. We were compelled to draw his attention, but he simply pointed to one of the female servers who took our order, but she hesitated at our choice of wine. She said the bartender was the wine expert, and he came over and begrudgingly suggested a wine. My wife and I sat back and waited for our meal. The fish dishes were quite good, but nothing special, and the servers delivered our dishes in a timely manner. The bartender never gave us another look during our entire meal, and we were forced to pour our own wine. At the end of our dinner, our dirty dishes sat in front of us for an inordinate amount of time. The bartender continued to ignore us. Finally, the Maitre D' came over and asked if we wanted dessert, while she removed our dishes. We did, and she took our order, but on her return from the kitchen engaged in a discussion with our bartender, who looked in our direction shaking his head. Finally, our meal was done and we asked for the "addition." The bartender ignored us, and the charming Maitre D' provided us with our bill. While my wife was deciphering the check, I walked to the back of the restaurant to use the bathroom. Some dude who worked in the kitchen was in the toilet room and decided to scream at me in French. Fortunately, I didn't understand a word, but flipped him the bird and chested him. I had enough of this B.S., and he saw it in my eyes and backed off. The entire meal and time at Climato was very uncomfortable. I know Europe is currently overwhelmed by a myopic fear of immigration, and it has become ultra nationalistic and fearful. However, after World War II and the Holocaust, antisemitism has no place on the continent. I also realize that the existence of Israel and its policies may cause anger and resentment, but a person's nationality and choice of religion has no place within this resentment. My night at Climato was a reminder that we are far from a unified planet that accepts humanity on face value. Hopefully, in the coming years, we all can make this planet a better place for all of us. read more

ONE Terrible experience. NOT because of service. Though service was very poor. Really a sister Michelin restaurant is Septime? They should be a shamed to have affiliation to Clamato. Got there at 8pm. The wait time was about 1.5 hours. Sat down at 910pm. Ok great earlier than expected. Ordered food at 920 and the fist dish did not arrive till 950pm. No one offered bread. Order was messed up while 2 groups sat down after we had their 3rd round of dishes and a refill of bread. The brunette waitress is horrible. Worst service ever. She goes out her way to avoid contact so she does not have to serve you. Thr asian waitress was the best. She's on point and got everything taken care of in a flash. The bar tender was making a Michilada. All ingredients are poured into the cup he said I can't because I have no beer. Really? You have one job. How you not know you ain't got no beer? So I told him to surprise me with his own creation and it was really good. A spicy in your face clamato mescal drink that was refreshing and unique. But this accident was the only good part of the dining experience. Everything is overly super over salted. The anchovy tasted sweet compared to its counter part potato in the dish NOW Imagine the salt level established in the dishes. Sea food was not all fresh. The clams were sandy, and the broth was over salted to the point that I had to pour water to dilute it. Utah Oyster was nice and juicie, although it was boring and had no characteristics other than good texture, at least it was fresh. Cant imagine having rotting raw oysters in the summer of Paris on the side of the Paris alley-street, thus they get 1 star for this success along. Cerviche was boring. The chilly oil was a nice visual touch but it killed the taste of the fish, which further inserted uncertainty about the quality and freshness of their sea food. The girls to our left and right indicated the same about the salinity and the freshness. I heard multiple times among different dishes they ordered. CLAMTO YOURE A SEA FOOD RESTAURANT, HOW DO YOU FAIL LIKE THIS? The whole experience took about 3 hours to suffer through. Avoid this place. It will ruin your Paris trip like it did mine. I don't want to ruin their score via the terrible yelp algorithm so I'll give it a 4 but this place is a horror show, barely a one star. First and foremost... a seafood restaurant should not be sweltering inside but this one is. And I don't mean it's a bit warm... I mean hiking my dress up and being able to put my hair up in its own sweat hot. The michalda was inedible.. like tasted like gasoline. No lime no salt no nothing! We needed to shuck all clams and oysters and crack the snow crab. Like I don't need to work this hard to eat a piece of seafood. Service was barely able to be called service and the seating is horrifying. I eat and have eaten at many a Parisian bistro, brasserie or cafe.... I am not referring to small spaces or small chairs but the bar stools could barely seat a child let alone a grown adult. The food was placed high above your table so you had to blindly reach for the unshucked oysters. None of it made any sense. Wonderful experience at Clamato here in Paris. Something to keep in mind, get there a little bit before 7 so you can be seated right away and not be put on a waiting list. We sat at the bar and it was so fun to watch the chefs prepare some of the dishes right in front of us. The food was fresh and not badly priced, The drinks were a little expensive when bought individually, but a bottle of wine was certainly doable. Creative tapas style fish/shellfish! Hands down the Canadian chef and his team do and outstanding job creating amazing fish and shellfish but also veggie dishes. The raw tuna is melting in your mouth and goes very well with raspberries. A combination that never occurred me. Same goes for the green beans in haddock cream that were to die for or the baby carrots with smoked eel. I can't stop raving. Absolutely delicious!! I tried their Accra weinkana as a starter and the bonite with sweet potatoes as a main course. Both were out of this world. Amazing pallete! Nice place for casual dinner in Paris. You can eat dinner at the bar which is kinda cool so you have an easy access to the waiter. The taste is very unique and light. The fresh Seafood really go together with the sauce. It's recommended to go with a friend or two as the portions are all for sharing so you can taste up to 5 different course which will keep you nice and full. Every course is cook perfectly, buttery scallop, soft pasta, light squid carpaccio kinda dish, and tasty vegetables. I think the chef really put a heart and their thought and creativity into each dish. Dessert is a bit too sweet for me, I ordered the "tartelette au sirop d'erable, chantilly" I like the thin & crunchy tart crust but left most of the maple syrup & whipped cream on the plate. Service is excellent, only takes about 5mins for our first course to go out. Waiter is very knowledgable about the menu and can translate the menu into English (no english menu available). We got into Paris on a Sunday and found this site parisbymouth.com. It listed restaurants open on Sunday and Clamato was their top recommendation near where we are staying. We got there and they didn't have an opening until 9:30 but sent us to the Wine Bar around the corner, The Cave. True to word, we got in when they said there would be an opening, and the wait staff painfully walked us thru the menu since our French isn't very good. Everything we ordered was amazing. I particularly liked the gazpacho. Even though we know white wine is the choice when eating fish, we aren't fans. The waitress once again bailed us uncouth tourists out and picked a red that was heaven with the fish. The only thing that marred the evening was an obnoxious local who was very drunk and decided to pick on us poor tourists by being overly friendly only to make fun of everything about us. But this is Paris! We probably deserved it and the restaurant had nothing to do with that anyway.. So thank you Clamato for making us feel welcome on our first night. read more

Excellent meal; fantastic service; warm, cozy space. We started with the espadon (swordfish) which was served with a slightly spicy tomatillo and shaved radish. It was fresh and so delicious. My husband had the chinchard (mackerel), equally divine. We both had the petoncles (scallops) to follow which were excellent though we easily could have eaten another plate each. The only real disappointment of the meal was the dessert. I ordered the carrot cake which was dense, dry - basically overbaked - and served with a peach ice cream which did it no favors. My husband had a maple syrup tart which was served with a fresh creme chantilly (nicely prepared) but the pastry crust was so hard, he practically had to saw into it to take a bite. My advice -- go go go for the fish (skip dessert) and go early! Even on a Sunday night at 8:30, we had to wait about an hour to get seated. read more

Hidden gem, next to the mothership Septime. Since I was unable to procure reservations for Septime, we decided for the next best thing. I'm a fan of the bistro / haute cuisine style. Not super stiff and formal but the food has that haute cuisine quality. Menu was all in French but the wait staff was exceptionally helpful and gave great recommendations. Great butter Uni was briney and fresh, ordered two so we wouldn't end up in a fork fight Crab croquette / cake was very flavorful, even those crab cakes are not my favorite. Bonito was very tender, my fork cut the bonito like it was butter. Octopus was perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. Ceviche was very clean, fresh, with distinct flavors. Snapper was one of the best, cooked perfectly with a great yam-tasting sauce. Dessert was a maple tart with whipped cream ... perfect ending. This is important, you want to end the meal on a high note. Everything was cooked perfectly, great temperature, seasoned great, nice presentation. A steal at ~60 euros per person. read more

This no reservations seafood-based restaurant and bar is perfect for a casual dinner in Paris or a fun elegant night out. The bar area was bustling with patrons. Our wait was about 45 minutes, which is not short but we were determined to try it. The service was great; there were a lot of foreigners and English-speakers there including our waitress, but that didn't bother us much considering its popularity. We started with oysters, which were super fresh, as expected. Also good were the: Crab cakes: Good amount of crab meat and lightly fried Asparagus and Egg: Classic combination of flavors, beautifully executed Razor Clams: I'm not usually a fan of clams, but these were the BEST razor clams I have ever had; buttery and simply perfection. Had one of my last Parisian dining experiences here shortly before leaving the city of light, and what a great choice it turned out to be! If you're a fan (as I am, after 9 years in Madrid) of Spanish-style tapas/raciones with a heavy emphasis on seafood yet with certain unexpected French takes (with that ubiquitous finesse!) on certain dishes, go! You should aim to get there early as they have a no reservations policy, although if you do have to wait a little they will take your number and call you as soon as they can squeeze you in....the perfect excuse to head across the street to the intimate wine bar of sister restaurant Septime for a little aperitif! Clamato is definitely a little spendy but worth it for a special night out if you get tired of the standard bistro fare in Paris. read more

They have very good tapas style plates here to share with the table. I enjoyed all the clam dishes that they presented. They do not have a huge selection of alcohol beverages but that's not why I came here anyways. They were very accommodating to our non-French speaking table and very patient with us on explaining he menu. The food is good and hearty for such small portions. What a fantastic and memorable dinner! We were told there was a short wait and so we popped by Septime La Cave around the corner for a drink and we received a call about our table in no time. The waiter took the time to translate each dish and told us his favorites when asked. He did right by us. The oysters are why they call them aphrodisiacs. Amazingly fresh with just the right hint of brininess. Order the tuna. Full stop/period. Do it. Bonito was seared just right, creamy, and delicious in all the right places. Trust. The corn succotash added a wonderful hit of freshness to the palate. The ceviche - amaze. I hate celery and cilantro but I trusted that both played an important role in the flavor of each bite and was not at all disappointed. Order this as well. Period. I passed out from all the deliciousness at some point but managed to sober up for their maple tart which was not too sweet but so flavorful and rounded a pretty epic meal. The absolute best place in Paris. We heard about this place from a foodie that we hired to take us around Paris. They don't take any reservations (b/c they fill up like crazy). We decided to go there for lunch right when they opened up at 12pm. This by far was the best lunch we ever had. Our waitress (I forgot her name) was so sweet and recommended some great dishes. We had these great bloody cesars (like marys) first, then a bottle of wine. Followed with scallops, clams, craps and the best ceviche you ever had. A nice recommendation, thanks to fellow Yelpers. Very popular restaurant, in a bustling dining area, that is not typical tourist watering hole. It shows foodies will go wherever their love is. Now onto the food: Musses in wine sauce is excellent, plus, plus. I was about to rank the restaurant 5 stars based on that one dish alone. My other dishes were ok, but not jumping out of window type of good. Clams are small (clam lovers, littleneck clams are far better), and the corn salad is ok. So I compromise the over all ranking to four stars. Waiting staff is very helpful. There is an English menu if you ask. However, the seating assignment process is a bit odd and inefficient, especially for single diners. They tried to block out adjoining seats at the bar for doubles, and I had to wait 45 minutes to see another single person finish her dinner and then they assigned me the seat two stools down the bar, with another empty one next to me... All the long wait aside, this is a nice gem worth trying. I far prefer this then the ones facing Champs Elysees. :-) read more

I DON'T GET it with all these great reviews! I went on a Sunday night with my daughter and waited around the corner in a very strange bar with a very strange clientele with flat beer from uncleaned taps. I should have realized the rest of the evening was doomed. First off I showed up at Clamato at the designated list time of 9pm and the place was fairly crowded. We sat down and asked about getting some shellfish to start since I have read its excellent there. I was informed that all they had left was one type of raw oyster( wanted the famous Utah Beach but they ran out)so I ordered a glass of a recommended pedestrian wine and a dozen recommended oysters at $60 ! That's five bucks a slurp ! Two of the oysters were inedible and the other ones were mediocre at best. I have eaten oysters from all over America and Canada and some at $1 happy hours and all of them were better than these way overrated specimens. They all had an off tinny flavor and weren't tasty at all The best I can say was that they were served cold !. Maybe if they were cheaper I could have dealt with it but I felt likely was robbed . (12 raw unremarkable oysters 2 glasses of ordinary wine and one small plate of raw fish was $95 American. ! When the oysters arrived I asked about other stuff on the menu but there was only one cooked entree available and the rest was raw. I could go on but we ordered one plate of raw fish which was pretty good but I wanted something cooked.. We left after that since I was totally pissed off and the top of my head was about to blow off. The only reason I didn't complain was my daughter doesn't want what she calls an embarrassing situation to which I told her the only one that should be embarrassed are the famous chef owner(s) who probably would have agreed with my assessment of whats going on at one of his many places but I guess he doesn't have the time or inclination to check on it every once in a while. This place reminds me of so many over-hyped and underwhelming restaurants in New York that hipsters love to frequent because its a happening place ( shheesh !). The real problem I have here is that if a restaurant is supposedly open and serving until 1100 pm how can they run out of almost everything by 9pm and if that is the case why aren't the clientele made aware of it before they sit down to eat. I HMMMMM ! I am pretty sure most reasonable people would agree with me that they would have felt duped with my experience. I am a big time foodie and this was the only bad experience I had in Paris the entire week and I did my research and then some before I made the trip. Maybe they should have separate reviews for this place one from 7 to 9 pm and the other for 9 -11 I cant stand it when a restaurant can be so packed on a daily basis due to people who don't know any better and they buy the hype but not the indifference. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it , I know better ! If going make sure you go early and at least have a chance to possibly eat some good food ! read more

Came to Clamato as a high recommendation from a friend. I called ahead...they don't take reservation, only in person. Took the metro to the restaurant yesterday, was told the waiting time is two hours. Came back today 6:30PM, the waiting time is an hour and a half. The restaurant was half full with no one else waiting. Just party of one. The front of the house staff couldn't care less. Pack your lunch and a nap sack to eat here. One of the best experiences I had at a seafood restaurant, and one of the best experiences I've had eating in Paris. We asked the waitress to bring what she thought was best, and it was. A bit underwhelming. We arrived early - definitely a good idea. The place was filled fast and no reservations. We found the menu a bit overwhelming - my french is pretty decent but doesn't include an extensive seafood vocabulary. The service was incredibly friendly and she helped us figure things out a bit. We ordered 5 or 6 dishes between the two of us - I can't really remember exactly what we ate. I found most of them to be a bit bland. Only one dish was truly tasty. Prices were reasonable. Music felt like it was trying too hard to be cool and didn't really fit the vibe of the place. Underground rap? I would have been happy for something more calm. The decor is very lovely - probably the high point of the night. To be fair, we were a bit out of our element - just 2 kids trying to enjoy a classy night out, so perhaps we weren't able to appreciate things as fully as some might have. But if you're a young foodie on a budget I would say don't waste your time. read more
