I dont eat Seafood..but i took my mom here..the best value on seafood by far!! She got the Clam Bake..it was 1 Chix lobster, 12 Steamers, 1 Cup of Clam Chowder, Corn on the Cob and a Baked Potato..for $24.95. I normally wouldn't post a review on here, but after last night's dinner I decided too. My daughter and I love the fish and the Cole Slaw from here and order a couple of times a month. Well last night was a different story. After I picked up our food curbside, when we got home I opened my Cole Slaw and as I started eating it, it had a long blonde hair in it. I was so repulsed by this and threw it out. I called to let the workers know just as a heads up because I didn't want it to happen to someone else. The girl on the phone apologized but didn't even offer any compensation for the meal or anything just said I'm sorry and hung up the phone. The time before that I ordered the Haddock Bits and when I got my order I had Scallops instead, I decided to give them another shot and let it go, but then the issue with the Cole Slaw happened. This place is not cheap and like I said we order from there a couple of times a month if not more. Very disappointed and probably won't be going back there again unfortunately! read more

Are you people kidding? After some time, we went back to the Clam Shack, as i've lived away for some time.We had the chowder----quite tasty, thick(flour and cream), but was missing something---clams. All there were were a few tiny bits of chopped hard shell clams.As for the fried clams, they were ridiculous. Up until a few years ago, clams were twice to three times the size. You could actually taste the juiciness and the clam itself. Nowadays all you taste is the crunchy batter covering a tiny piece of clam resembling rubber. Instead of placing a size minimum on clam-digging as the lobster industry did, greed and money(e.g Woodman's etc.) took over and fished out the beds without leaving time for the clams to grow larger.We had one lobster roll also----skimpy. All in all, a waste of money. read more

What a great place! Well trained and friendly staff in tip of fantastic food! Fry is light batter and NOT greasy at all. Freshest shrimp i have had in New England. I am from SF and give this little gem a huge YEA! Got it to go as it was about to rain, it was well packed up. Oh and coleslaw so good! Not heavy mayo and sickening sweet you get some places. The clam shack is hands down 1 of the best if not the best seafood restaurants in the north shore. When I come there I only get one thing which is a captains combo lol which has fried shrimp, scallops, clams, and fried haddock and is excellent every time I get it. One of the reasons why is because they have an excellent cook by the name of Chris Stokes Behind the grill putting in hard work to make sure you get the same flavor and taste every time you come down along with the beautiful ladies that work at the cash register that greets you with a smile every time you come down as well. We visited recently in search of some great seafood. We got it at the Clam Shack! My husband ordered the whole belly fried clams and with every bite he let out a "Yumm". He commented on how light the oil must be to render such light fried food. He also had to ask the staff about the delicious tartar sauce. Yep, it's homemade! Again, a "Yumm". My kids and I opted for the lobster salad rolls. We like mayo and butter and the Clam Shack was happy to oblige our request. The size and amount of lobster on the lobster roll makes it a good value. We were all totally satisfied with our meals and didn't find the need to top off our stomachs with the ample supply of french fries that came with them. I wish I was hungrier because they did taste great. Next time I will get the lobster roll and the fried clams and do my best to enjoy every bite. Yumm!!! read more

Found this little hidden gem in the summer, They had some of the best fried clams I have tasted in the North shore. The staff is really friendly, but space is outdoors only and limited. Which I agree on the nice days helps soak up the view, but on rainy or cloudy days, you wish this place had indoor seating, Parking in this area of Salem, can be quite annoying as well, but you cannot hold that against this place, as Salem is a horror show for parking in general. read more

In this area a lobster roll on average costs upwards of $20, the lobster roll at the Clam Shack priced at $14.95 is very reasonable. It was absolutely delicious. It was sweet and fresh, just the perfect amount of mayo. I hate a lobster roll dripping in mayo. It was served with perfect french fries. My husband got the shrimp plate. There were so many shrimp he shared a few with me. Perfectly fried with french fries. Also, the staff was super friendly and efficient. They kept the picnic tables clean and cleared. Excellently done, Clam Shack. We went on a gorgeous Sunday and the line was a pretty good size, but we just chatted in line and enjoyed the weather and what passes for "ambiance" at The Willows. We got the plate with a combo of scallops and whole clams. NOM! Just nom! Just the way I like it--lightly coated and perfectly tasty. My husband and I split the plate; there was plenty for two reasonably hungry people. I liked the coleslaw; it was VERY lightly seasoned and quite crunchy. If you like Market Basket type coleslaw a/k/a mayonnaise with a bit of cabbage swimming in it, this not not for you. Sadly, my mom wanted lobster salad and they were out of lobster. I am not going to knock off a star for that since they just opened and probably are still figuring things out. But trying the lobster salad is yet to come. Prices are just fine. Outdoor seating consists of picnic tables right next the the restaurant; there is no indoor seating. You order and they call your number. Once we ordered the food appeared pretty quickly. The Clam Shack exceeded every expectation my husband and I had - and from the great reviews, our expectations were pretty high. We had chowder, a fried clam basket and broiled scallops. The chowder was rich, creamy and everything you expect in a NE clam chowder. The clams (and fries) were amazing - simple and amazing. Fresh, lightly coated, fried to absolute perfection and hands down the best i've ever had. The staff went out of their way to ask us if we enjoyed our dinner and were genuinely interested, not just "asking". Perfect setting, super nice people, generous portions and amazing food.
