We returned to Clam Haven after many years. It was a really nice Friday evening and we wanted to eat outside so we ended up here. We got a fish & chip plate, Fish sandwich, Lady chowder (clam chowder topped with lobstar). The fish was cooked nicely as were the fries and onion rings. The chowder was also tasty. Fries were unremarkable. Cole slaw was a large portion (was cup like the chowder) and was really good. Prices were high for the portion (as are many places these days). I've driven by this place many times, but didn't have the time to stop,, but always wanted to. I stopped by today and wished I didn't! They didn't have an item that they advertised (a steak and cheese sub) and the cheese burger that I settled for was $12! I expect that price at a sit down type restaurant, but not a clam shack. read more

So this is a review from last year. We ordered a hotdog plate as well as a few other items. It must have been an off day. I didn't post or do a review as I had reached out to the business and was offered a gift certificate to come back and try it again. Not only did the owner give us a GC to Clam Haven but also to Rig A Tony's. It was at the end of the season and we got a seafood platter and a 2 way shrimp and scallops. My shrimp and scallops were delicious came with 3 onion rings (nice touch) and french fries. As a teenager my husband and I worked at Lobster Claw down the street so we feel we have a pretty good idea how seafood businesses work and this being an iconic part of Derry, we were pleasantly surprised how great our food was. If you have any concerns I would always reach out to Lisa and explain your situation with her first, she will 100% make it right. She wants to continue the legacy of this iconic summer restaurant and will always do her best to provide you with a good experience. 2025 season is a miss. Go any direction for seafood but here. High prices, small portions of what tasted like frozen fish with extra salt. This place use to have monumental openings, long lines daily, huge affordable portions of fresh fish. The lines are gone along with quality. My family was visiting the Robert Frost farmstead just up the road from the Clam Haven. We saw the sign saying they've been open since 1954 so we thought it must be good. It was windy and chilly, a few people were there but we attributed this to the chilly weather, and we ordered fish and chips, a clam basket and a chicken tenders' basket altogether the cost was 67.00 That is OK I thought, you get what you pay for right? WRONG There was a very small, underdone piece of fried haddock, with a serving of French fries, 5 chicken tenders and fries, and 5 fried clams bellies with some onion rings. The clams were not bad but quite a small portion for 25.00 and change. They forgot to give us our coleslaw which wasn't bad. We did get it after we went back to the counter and asking and they did apologize. The young man taking orders was polite. All in all though, this place is totally awful. Don't go there. They have no idea what they are doing. With the economy declining and people trying to make a decent living, how dare you charge a 3% service charge fee. You should be ashamed of yourself. Most retailers absorb the fee due to the ease of doing business. I realize how much prices have gone up but your menu is way overpriced for the very few items you get. Been going to Clam Haven for years. This was my first time under new ownership: Ordered the Scallop Basket. The breading was off. Came with onion rings, the breading was sweet. Made the whole meal a disappointment. Was charged a "Customer Svc Fee (3.%)". Was not advised of that fee. Total bill for a Scallop Basket with 7 scallops was $33.32. Service Fee was not disclosed on their electronic menu board (I took a video of the menu board/pricing afterwards to evidence it). I suspect it is illegal to charge the convenience fee fee without customer notification. (receipt attached in photos). If you look at receipt - you will notice, no tip, I tipped in cash as there was no way to tip on the credit card! Will not be going back again. I do NOT recommend. To the new owner: - in addition to the food taste comments, and Svc Fee mentioned above; the electronic menu board scrolls a bit too fast, making it challenging to review the menu. It is also hard to read in daylight unless you are under the canopy and you need to be ready order, by the the time you can read the screen, then the screen changes! The TV monitor menu technology idea may not be as appealing to customers as you may think. Your vibe is old school, the TV monitors change that. I suspect you choose that option as it is easier to changes prices on the fly. And no I am not retired or have vision issues! Will not be going back again. I do NOT recommend. read more

The Two Hot Dog Special is still a bargain, even with the $1.50 adder if you go all Onion Rings. No, they're still not the Clam Haven Onion Rings of days gone by. I grew up with this place when it was owned by the Mets, and they always had solid affordable food, but it's taken a slide downhill recently in my opinion. I went here with my family and ordered a couple frappes and a side of their onion rings (always loved em here) and between the prices, the wait/service (20+ minutes for onion rings) I can't say it was a positive experience. The thing that this place has going for it currently is the location which I love! I have always loved their seating set up and the vibe this place has being a nostalgic spot in the town. Despite the negatives the onion rings are the same ones I always loved, and the frappes were ok. I'll give them another chance at some point. read more

Wanting to find a good lobster roll in NH, found out about this place so we give it a try. The place opens at 11 am and we were one of the first customers. The lady staff is nice and friendly, but the order came out differently than what we requested (we asked to have the sauce on the side, ended up being mixed in) I know it's not the lady staff's fault. It's the cook. And this is in the morning so I think he hasn't fully awake yet ^^; The lobster roll tasted ok for $18. But the small size of scallop for $21 doesn't seem to fit the price. It's kinda soggy. And I noticed weird rotten taste on some of them and I have to quickly spit it out. The Haddock plate for $13.50. The fish tastes good. Been going here for YEARS!! However...since new management took over last year it simply hasn't been the same. The menu has simplified, but that also means fewer selections. Prices have increased. They now charge a "service fee" if you use a credit card. And on some foods the product has gone downhill. Today was bad. We went for Ice Cream. Had one customer with 3 IC in front of us....it took her a good 10 minutes to make THREE Ice Creams!! The employee seemed new and by the looks clearly didn't know what she was doing. Worse is the "supervisor" had to assist with orders because when it finally came to mine she handed me the wrong Ice Cream!! Poor woman couldn't tell which ice cream was what!! This was piss poor service. I feel bad for the employees because they are overworked...but they also show incompetence. You need to TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES!! You need to HIRE MORE HELP!! I feel bad for the line behind us, but you wonder why sales are down. It's because your product went down the sink. Your prices skyrocketed, and your employees need assistance. We have been a loyal Clam Haven customer for years. I was not aware that they were under new management. My experience was quite different from what I am used to. I called my order in to avoid the usual long lines. When I pulled up I noticed there were no lines. There were now picnic tables where the lines used to be. I stood there waiting for my name to be called and no one asked if they could help me. I felt like no one cared that I was there. I finally went up to the window and still had a hard time getting someone's attention. I ordered 2 two way combo's with shrimp and scallops which cost me $85 with tip and the new 3% convenience fee. The batter is not the same. It falls off the seafood very easily. The scallops were gritty. I asked for tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, but only got what they call tartar sauce. It was mayonnaise with a few pieces of relish in it. Not really enough to add any flavor to it. The onion rings tasted similar but were on the dark side. The bottom line is that I was very disappointed and won't be returning. I now have to get rid of my clam haven shirt! read more

I don't know how many times we've driven by Clam Haven but we finally stopped this weekend. Although there was a crowd, service was fast and the wait for our order wasn't too long. The menu is nice - they have all the usual seafood items. We went with a bowl of the clam chowder and a lobster roll. I loved the lobster roll (especially the paprika on top). Nice big chunks of lobster and a fabulous price. The clam chowder was okay. I expected a bit more from a place called clam haven but it was pretty standard. Not bad by any means but nothing special and I had to add pepper to jazz it up a bit. I'm glad we checked out Clam Haven and I would 100% return for another one of their lobster rolls! read more

We came to this place yesterday. The service was horrible and the food was even worse. So bad that we took 3 bites and threw it all away. The fried lobster was mushy, undercooked and still had the vibe and track in all pieces. The clams were mushy and just taste like grease. The haddock was not even remotely white- it was grey. Very disappointed with a legendary place that recently has new owners. Prices have jumped substantially. Three hot dogs and a chicken sandwich was almost $40. It took 45 minutes to get our order ready and they forgot all the drinks. The kid at the window was completely untrained. I have been coming to Clam Haven for over 35 years. I have had many years of amazing food and ice cream at this location. I pulled up at suppertime on a weekend and couldn't believe that there was nobody in line waiting usually it's a long line a long wait to order food. I walk up to the counter and look and notice everything has changed. From where the ice cream was air conditioner in the front window held up by cardboard and duct tape. The other window for ice cream was boarded and blocked off. The food menu was not working, but I already knew what I was going to get before. The only thing I wish I did prior was read these terrible reviews and not go. I got the classic hotdog special hotdog was bland. Buns were bland. Fries were terrible. Onion rings were terrible kids meal consisted of hotdog fries which I thought was soft. Serve ice cream, but was hard serve scooped ice cream with sprinkles. It was supposed to be a great meal with my daughter end up being shotty. The 35 years of coming here I never had a bad meal when It was owned by the long time duo owners. I don't know what happened, but I can tell you this that place will be gone sooner than later because this is not what it used to be, and it's not what people want, and it's not what people will go to the future. I got the easiest thing on the menu and came out absolutely terrible burnt wet onion rings fries not even close to it. The swimming pool, where you had the owners car that parked blow up blue swimmable pool with a basketball hoop filled with water totally threw me off the side of the building where the picnic tables were under new management boarded up. I did happen to go upstairs. The old screened in porch and the picnic tables are nice in there. That was only thing I could say about the place. I will never go back. I'll go down the street to lobster claw. Going here made me honestly never want to visit Derry again and even though I grew up there my whole life I don't think I'll ever return. On the day they opened this year we went and ordered take out from Clam Haven. We ordered 2 clam boats and a hot dog special. All 3 were packaged in plastic clam shell packaging. All 3 were very soggy after a 10min drive home. Please go back to the old packaging of paper plates and paper bags as it's been done for years at Clam Haven. read more

Clam Haven is not a place I would normally frequent because I don't like seafood but I had to waste time and had my dogs w me. On the positive side, they make my favorite puffy onion rings. This place has gone way downhill since the new owners took over. My go to plate, the 2 hotdog special is a faint memory of what it used to be. Hotdogs are smaller than the bun. Onion rings are a fat cry of what they used to be. The fries improved slightly but not enough to keep me coming back and I had been going there since 1991. Fries portion decreased to minimal ( I understand the economics) but when my wife is berated by the guy behind the glass about the cost of ketchup packets when she had to go back and request those that were never included, we will drive a few more minutes to somewhere else from now on. So disappointed to see what has happened to this iconic restaurant. I grew up in Derry and Clam Haven was my first real job. The original family that owned it and Rick Metts kept the high standards with very hands on management. This new owner doesn't seem to be as invested in the quality that it's regulars have become accustomed to. We had 2 very horrible dinners there this year, but gave it a last shot today. I was so thrilled to have a great gift for Mom on Mother's Day. However, the lobster/steamer boil was such a disappointment. Let's start at the beginning....Ok, so it's $60 per person, you get a 1.25 lb lobster, steamers, 2 potatoes, a half a sausage, cut lengthwise, an ear of corn and a cup of chowder. We decided to share, so I had to order another cup of chowder. It was over $5 for a CUP of chowder!!! And it was curdled! Eww yuck gross. Didn't finish it obviously. Moving on to the lobster area....the people were so unfriendly. We expected a Hey Welcome, Happy Mother's Day, we're gonna be taking care of you today! But no. They barely spoke to us, seemed just unhappy and it took a long time to get our stuff, and there was really nobody there, I think they started late. The lobster was good, perhaps a tad overcooked, could have been because it looked like they were pre-cooked, then heated up again in the steamer. But they didn't give us any tools at all. There was an attempt to crack it with a butcher knife before they gave it to us, but it was fairly unsuccessful when it comes to the knuckles and such. It was like watching a wrestling match while my mom was trying to get the meat out. They gave us two tiny little containers of butter for all this stuff, and it got hard and turned milky pretty quick. There was no butter or salt for the corn, no butter or salt & pepper for the potatoes. No knives to cut anything. You get a fork and a spoon, and a miniscule napkin with your bib. There were no chocolates as promised, and there was no live music like it said on the sign. Maybe that was later in the day, but you'd think they'd be there at lunch time. The steamers, lobster and corn (minus butter and salt) were the best parts, except for the weather and the seating, which was great. But we didn't get to finish the steamers, because who wants to walk all that way to ask for more butter when they already were not friendly at all. I will definitely never buy another package deal from them again. In fact, they are scratched off the list of future endeavors. We had been coming here for years, it's pretty sad actually. read more
