I was in the area and saw CJ BBQ place located in the Blossom Valley Plaza. I cannot believe that they are still around. They have been serving the community since 1991. Wow, amazing and congratulations to the same owner. They have remodeled and the place looks great. The owner still is at the grill turning out barbeque goodness. I used to always get their Beef Ribs. Tender, juicy, yet meaty. I've also had their sides of potato salad, bbq beans, which are pretty good. The owner is friendly and polite. Loyal customers enjoy seeing her behind the grill. This place is a total crapshoot. My first visit, I wanted to try their Korean appetizers, but guess what? For whatever reason, I was told they had none of the items on their menu. I left extremely disappointed. The next time, I dropped by at noon for ribs, but they weren't open. The Yelp website said they were only open beginning at 2:30, which doesn't help for lunch. So a third time, I waited until 2:45 and showed up but they were closed again. This time there was a sign on the door saying they open at 5:30! WTF? I gave up on this place for a few months. This past week I thought I would give them another try and showed up at 5:30, but guess what? That's right, they hadn't opened yet! I've now tried 4 times and will absolutely never show my face at this place again. Maybe the food is okay, I'll never know. Not sure these people know what they're doing. read more

How did I never try this restaurant ever before until now?! It was such a spontaneous choice to come in a try, and I'm so glad we did! The sauce is what impressed me the most, it was exceptionally delicious with the perfect amount of tang. When I last came I noticed their hours said they opened at 11:30am but they came and opened at 12:00pm. The owner was still setting up and told me they weren't opened but she ended up saying she could take my order and proceeded in making it. The pork ribs are so tender and falls off the bone. They boil their meats and then grill them. The sauce is on the sweeter side and I like that the ribs aren't completely drenched in it. The garlic bread tasted like it was pre-made and reheated. It was tough and chewy. The sausage link tasted like kielbalsa. The potato salad isn't too creamy. Good bbq stop in the blossom hill area. The restaurant is small and dark inside, but nevertheless the food is good. The beef ribs were tender and the barbecue sauce here is very good. The hot links had excellent flavor. The only comment on them is the casing was a bit tough. The potato salad was just what was needed to offset all of the savory bbq. My favorite ribs hands down in Bay outside of Gorillaz in Pacifica. I can't believe it took me this long to try CJ BBQ. The ribs (both pork and beef):are so flavorful and tender! The ribs are pre-marinated so no dry and/or bland meat, which is pretty much my experience with most BBQ joints here. I like the ribs without the BBQ sauce (which makes the ribs too sweet for my taste) and find them flavorful without sauce. The tenderness can't be beat. Im writing this review as a favor to potential customers: do yourself a favor and choose another place. The BBQ tasted like reheated leftovers rather than freshly prepared food. Called to order Western Set A over the phone on a Sunday afternoon and came to pick it up 20 minutes later. Paid at the register really quickly and left with minimal contact to other people. Cashier wore face mask properly. The food came with 12 pork ribs (we asked for sauce on the side), 4 pieces of chicken, potato salad, beans, and 5 pieces of garlic bread. Ribs were meaty and flavorful; potato salad was really tasty - right balance between sweet and savory, soft with a bite to it; beans were too salty; garlic bread was good - huge pieces (felt like we got a whole loaf of bread); chicken was also good and juicy. Our first visit to this restaurant and the fact there were no other customers on a Saturday at peak lunch time hours should have been a clue. The chicken sandwich was sparse in terms of the amount of chicken. The roll was nice and warm and good texture. The sauce was overly abundant and too sweet. The beef ribs and chicken also had too much sauce on them and were below average compared to other BBQ places. Yeah boosting my review to 4* because they're a local small business and I want to support them on Yelp, but my actual rating is 3*. I really wanted to like this place, seeing a friend's positive review and also learning that it's a Korean run BBQ joint (shoutout to CJ Entus Frost and Blaze). Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed. Like what many other people are saying, this is not your typical traditional style American BBQ. It's not smoked like southern BBQ, so you're losing out on the smoky, charred, grilled flavor. In a sense, it reminds me of the amateur backyard BBQs of my childhood: basic grilled meat smothered with sweet BBQ sauce. As a result, the meat here had a nostalgic taste for me, which is good, if only it was cooked well. One of my problems with this place is the consistency. I got the Chicken + Pork Ribs combo plate, and both the chicken and ribs had parts that were super tender, juicy, and fall of the bone, and other parts that were chewy, rubbery, and tough. For example, the chicken drumstick was great but the thigh wasn't. All told, the pieces that were tender were really good, so here's hoping that they can make it more consistent next time. The meat had a ton of sweet BBQ sauce on it, which almost tasted Asian/Hawaiian to me. Super tasty, it's like a Korean/American fusion. The garlic bread that came with the combo was cut nice and thick but tasted average. I also ordered the ramen here for the lols and that was a mistake. $11 for instant ramyeon. To be fair, it was the more expensive type, the ones that cost a couple dollars each and have multiple seasoning and garnishing packets inside, but this is still highway robbery. For $11, I was expecting them to add things to elevate the ramen, like eggs, jalapenos, green onions, anything, but I literally just got a bowl of instant ramyeon lol. YakiniQ does it better. The prices are high just like most other BBQ spots. The service was nice though, a very kind Korean lady took my call and then helped me when I arrived. Looking back, this is a pretty unique Korean/American fusion BBQ place. I would love to support this local small business, if only the food and the prices were better. Not your typical traditional style BBQ. It's not smoked like Texas BBQ. But still good. This is more like sweet sauce on grilled meat over fire. I really like it because the meat is tender, especially the beef ribs, and the flavor is sweet and tasty. If you don't want to eat super smoky traditional Texas style Q, come check this spot out. I got the 3 pork/2 beef ribs. Affordable, good, and unique. It really is tasty. Don't expect it to be like Franklin BBQ, Horn BBQ, or South Winchester BBQ. It's been a while since I've gone here. I had the deluxe combo $30 (2 ribs, 2 chicken, hot link, and garlic bread). It was enough for two people. Menu: I feel like it could use a revamp. It's off in the corner, with a small sign on a banner to advertise itself. "BBQ" it says, in bold black letters against a fading light, as if that could entice those who drive by Blossom Hill Rd. And it did. One day my dad was driving around looking for Juicy Burger and found a random CJ BBQ. He thought one day, when I'm out of options, I'd check this out. 5 months later, Saturday night, when my mom decided to go vegetarian for the month, my dad and I decided this was the time. There's not much to say about this place. It's a hole-in-wall, owned and cooked by a Korean couple. There were several parties already eating away. But when my dad and I glanced around, everything looked good. That's the shock for me: it all looked amazing but I couldn't smell the aromatic allure anyone would recognize from a BBQ. Either the fan is that impressive or (and hopefully not) the place isn't good. No matter. We checked out the menu and decided to order. So the first thing to note is how reasonably the prices are. The "Everything" sandwich (I honestly forgot what it was called. But it has everything. Choice 3 in the sandwich list) only costed around $9. My dad decided to go Beef Ribs, Pork Ribs and Kalbi short ribs (did I mention it was owned and cooked by a Korean couple? I think I did...). Altogether: $48 with free garlic bread. The verdict: surprisingly good. All the ribs came off the bone tenderly. Nothing was dry. You can taste the seasoning and the flavors of the ingredients. Observe the image I uploaded to get a full savory look at our meal. The kalbi was... I mean it isn't bad but I actually wouldn't go out of my way to order this. What else they have? Korean ramyun, pot stickers (I did mention it's cooked and owned by a Korean couple) and baby back ribs. I'd love to try their Everything Sandwich and full rack of those baby backs. My only draw back was "I wish I could have the sauces on the side instead of letting it all go over my ribs." I think the amount of sauce drizzled overpowered some parts of the meal. Not a biggie. BF door dashed CJ BBQ for dinner on Saturday. They called a few minutes after explaining that the ran out of potato salad so we chose garlic bread instead. We got 5 pork ribs, 5 beef ribs, bbq beans and 3 large pieces of garlic bread. My favorite had to be the pork ribs! Would order that again! The beef ribs were a little tough and more charred. Ordered the pork & beef ribs which were actually really good, the bbq sauce took it up another notch, appears to be good quality meats used. I also ordered some sides, potato salad had too much onions and baked beans were a little different than what I'm used to and a little too salty.
