This place is closed! Don't go here because it does not exist. I'm sure it was lovely while it lasted :(

Note: This is the older Walgreens across from La Strada and not the newer one by Contra Costa…read moreCollege. Walgreens has the right intentions but tends to fail on delivery. The store is always a little messy, customer service is average, and lines are typically a little long at the register. However, I do take advantage of their lower prices over Long Drugs (now CVS) and there are certain services I enjoy, such as ink cartridge refilling. The refills only run $12 and in contrast a new cartridge runs about $30 or more. The store stocks everything you need from a general store and has a pharmacy, that I've yet to try. And if you ever need a vibrator before going out on a date, they stocked that as well! Check my photos. Pros: + Redbox

My daughter had surgery this morning and the surgeon called in several medications, including one we needed to start immediately--a steroid to prevent post-operative swelling that could lead to medical complications. When I got to the pharmacy at 10am, it wasn't open. After waiting in a long line, and after they opened late, the only, overwhelmed pharmacist on duty said she was completely backed up and had just starting in on 75 orders. She refused to provide me with any information about where my daughter's prescriptions fell in the queue, but urged me not to wait for them, saying that she couldn't even ballpark when my daughter's medications would be ready and that it could take all day. I explained the medical urgency of the one prescription, but there was clearly no triage system in place and the pharmacist remained quite clear that she couldn't even provide an estimate of when it would be ready. Fortunately, I thought to call the surgeon and get the prescriptions rerouted to CVS. But this Walgreens pharmacy's poor quality still led to a medically contraindicated delay in getting my daughter the medicine she needed, increasing the chances of post-operative complications.

CVS Pharmacy: Dangerous Mistakes and Unacceptable Incompetence…read more Our experience with CVS Pharmacy at El Cerrito Plaza has been absolutely appalling. These weren't minor customer service issues. These were potentially life-threatening medication mistakes involving my 81-year-old mother. On September 4, a CVS employee repeatedly insisted that my mother's prescribed budesonide medication had to be inhaled through a nebulizer, even though her doctor's written instructions clearly stated that it was to be taken orally. The employee became argumentative, repeatedly insisted we were wrong, and failed to consult the pharmacist until we demanded it. When the pharmacist finally intervened, she confirmed that the medication was indeed supposed to be taken orally, exactly as the doctor had prescribed. Imagine if we had trusted that employee. My mother could have taken her medication incorrectly or gone without the treatment she needed. Medication errors can have life-threatening consequences. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there. On September 5, CVS dispensed only about half the medication required for a 30-day prescription, causing it to run out prematurely and requiring an insurance override. Then, on September 21, CVS attempted to dispense only about ONE-QUARTER of the prescribed quantity! This could have left my mother without essential medication again, potentially requiring another insurance override or costing approximately $300 out of pocket. Patients should NEVER have to worry that their pharmacy will cause them to miss necessary medication or give them dangerously incorrect instructions. Consistently taking the correct medication, in the correct dosage, is a basic matter of patient safety. We finally transferred our prescriptions to Costco Pharmacy to escape this incompetence. Amazingly, CVS continued refilling our prescriptions even after we transferred them! Two serious dispensing problems, dangerously incorrect medication instructions, and continued refills after we left. This pharmacy has completely lost our trust. I would strongly recommend taking your prescriptions elsewhere, especially if you or a loved one depends on medications to maintain your health.
