Visiting from out of country. This is a tapas restaurant. The food was good, we were seated outside after a 10 minute wait. There were quite a few people. The beef tenderloin was too raw for our liking and we asked to have it medium and they were nice about it. We tried lots of stuff and would recommend it. Just be prepared for the wait and ask for the English menu.
Got this reco from a fellow Yelper. This was my favorite dining experience in Barcelona. Arrived at noon on a weekday with a party of 6 without reservations. The restaurant is quite large, so they were able to seat us since the locals seem to eat at 1 PM. Servers were very friendly and spoke quite a bit of English. They gave us a Catalan/Spanish Menu as well as an English menu. The servers mentioned that tables are available for 1.5 hours and then they ask you to leave. We had no problems with the timing as the food comes out quickly after ordering. The food - recommended without reservations Burnt Saint Teresa "torrija" - easily my favorite dessert on the trip, maybe the best overall dish. If a popover, cream puff, and a crème brûlée got together and had a baby, this dessert would be the result. Eggy-bready on the outside, cream filling, and a caramelized sugar crust on top. I saw some people post a picture of this dessert and label it "bread pudding". That's like posting a picture of the Sistine Chapel and calling it "paint on stone". "Cabreaos" style eggs - "angry" eggs - a bowl of shoestring fries + chile sauce + 2 sunny side up eggs - this is all cut up and mixed table-side. Eat it quick while it's still crispy. Grilled Razor Clams and Grilled Galician Clams - very fresh seafood, simply prepared. Cooked to perfection. Creamy mushrooms assortment - if you like mushrooms, you like this dish. Comes with an egg yolk that gets mixed in. Codfish with honey "aioli" - the fish has a bit of chew to it - maybe slightly underdone. Honey adds quite a bit of sweetness. Never had this pairing before and definitely worth trying. Recommended Chocolate with churros - 5 thin pieces of churro. The chocolate is one of the better ones we had on the trip - more chocolate flavor and very smooth (not a broken emulsion) Fried Mix - squid, cuttlefish, small fishes, padron pepper - the peppers look like shishitos, but they don't have any heat. Everything was cooked well, but I liked the small fish the best. These were ok - Lobster Rice - their version of paella? There were visible lobster shells on top. I prefer a more traditional paella. Food was excellent, but the service on the day of going was really non-existent from the time of waiting, to seating, and being served. The hostess had our party stand in the restaurant for a good 20 min after being called in ready only to realize our table wasn't going to be. Our server was new, day one on the job, at a very hectic spot which I empathize with. The selection of tapas and postres was well worth the wait though, and everything tasted great so would be back. I'm sure other experiences and future experiences could be better.
We had a lovely table upstairs and a very knowledgeable and helpful server. The food was excellent, we had tomato bread, sliced fried artichokes, and a spread, Brie, candied walnut and honey baguette. My wife topped it off with a crème brûlée bread pudding she loved with a cappuccino. Lovely place make sure you know the street names and number when looking as it is an unassuming facade. It's worth the wait if you have one.
Fiancée and I stopped in here for dinner our very first night visiting Barcelona off of a recommendation from a friend. This place was amazing. The vibe, ambiance and decor were cozy and looked great. We were able to be seated right away and the wait staff was with us immediately. We ordered a few different tapas including sliced meats and Patatas Bravas. Everything was delicious! We also ordered a pitcher of Cava Sangria and couldn't recommend it more. Check this place out if you're ever in the area.
One of the best tapas place my friends and I visited while staying the week in Barcelona. This place is very accommodating for the space and time that it is opened until. Service was quick and no complaints. Food was AMAZING!!! You just have to try it - flavor is rich and has a lot of depth. It's more on the heavier side in terms of palette so come hungry :) The space was well lit, spacious, and was very nice for a late night visit.
Had a lovely time at this restaurant. Requested outside seating and placed at a table for two. Wait staff came over with menus took our drink orders. We chose from their Tapas menu ordering a meat and potato pasta dish, lobster rice, asparagus, sautéed mushrooms, and potato dish with a sauce drizzle. Every item came out nicely prepared and hot. All the Tapas were wonderful and we were glad we had a walk back to work it off. The server was very friendly and helpful.
This place is packed but the line moves quickly. On a Saturday night when the entire city seemed to be put and about, we were waiting outside for a spot, but seated at the bar area in minutes. Service was fast and friendly and then even offered English menus when they realized we weren't fluent in Spanish. We got the grilled shrimp skewers, grilled pulpo, Spanish potato omelette served with tomato bread and montadito with cured meats and cheese - manchego cheese, ham, chorizo and Iberico ham. All the dishes were excellent. A couple seated next to us informed is that they have great French toast as one of their desserts, but we were too full to try it out. Ah! Next time! Will look forward to returning here!
We had lunch at Ciutat Comtal & it was delish! Originally was planning on going to a different restaurant next door BUT Ciutat Comtal looked busy!! And you know, many times, if a place is busy, it must mean the food is good. We were seated within minutes & this restaurant is actually pretty big. We were sat in the back & which was well lit. Here's what we ended up ordering: -iberian jamon medium platter -bread w/ tomato (to pair w/ the iberian jamon) -beef w/ foie gras -bravas potatoes -cola w/ lemon -razor clams -pulpo -fried anchovies -Spanish omelette MY FAVORITE was the beef w/ foie gras! OMG, it was TOO good. I wanted to order another one but needed to leave some room to try the other dishes. Bravas potatoes are ALWAYS good, haven't had a bad one yet (fingers crossed haha). Everything came out quick & service was not bad at all. I think this place is a bit touristy but I mean, not complaining. All the dishes we ordered were yummy... the beef w/ foie gras is my favorite though & a must order! They did unfortunately forget two other dishes we ordered (salmon & mussels). Luckily, we were getting full so it was fine that these dishes didn't end up coming. DEFINITELY come here and order the beef with foie gras!!!
We went out looking for dinner and tried Ciutat Comtal after seeing good Yelp reviews. Eating outside had that European vibe with street performers, though there's a 1.5-hour time limit. The menu came in English and Spanish, and we had beef tenderloin, cod with honey, eggplant chips, fried anchovies, squid tentacles, crema catalana, and bread pudding. The food was average --plenty of other restaurants on the same street I'd probably try instead.

First visit to Barcelona so we wanted some Tapas (of course!) for lunch. Although there were a few Tapas choices in the area, Ciudad was only a 10 minute walk from our hotel so we decided to check it out. We arrived around noon & lunch rush hadn't quite started yet. The interior of the restaurant was very inviting with high ceilings in the back. There is bar stool seating in the front where the small Tapas are displayed & you can eat and order a variety of Montaditos. We had to try the "Cabreaos" eggs style which was amazing. Who knew that over easy eggs mixed with shoestring potatoes & spices could be so good?! Just the final preparation of the dish at our table was enough! Our server suggested the seafood salad and we also got the pasta salad-both excellent. Added a variety of small Tapas & Vegetable Tempura. Great service & Tapas-we will be back! read more
Always a must when we come to BCN. We eat here several times during our stay. You need reservations only for large groups or if you eat during prime time, but otherwise, this restaurant opens really late until 1:30am. We usu go around 9-ish to avoid the crowd and rush. If you sit at the bar, you can order from the menu or point to whatever tapas you want and they'll bring them right to you. The quality doesn't compare to anywhere else we've been. Eat here and you won't be disappointed. read more
Based on the recommendation from our hotel concierge, we popped into this delightful restaurant for a early lunch on a spring Saturday. The nice outdoor patio was full but there were plenty of tables in this large space. This Spanish restaurant had a great list of Tapas and we tried several. My wife enjoyed the California Salad which was a mixture of fresh Avocado, pasta and some regular ham. The tenderloin tapa was good as was the eggplant/peppers and goat cheese stack. Food came out fast and tasted very fresh. Service was prompt and like most places in Barcelona language was not an issue with English speaking waiters and English menus. Recommended read more

I came here based on a friend's recommendation. I had the Garlic shrimp and Fried mixed fish. Both were awesome! I was told to try the foie gras but didn't see it on the menu. This place is busy! I didn't know how to make reservations but was able to sit at the bar by going on the earlier side. read more
Always crowded and people are just willing to wait... Small dishes of delicious food - grill octopus, grilled mushrooms and fried fish are recommended. Attentive staffs and fast service. All food on the menu are recommended, except razor clams - good on the flavors, but too much sand on the texture. In warmer days, I recommend outdoor seating, which is a lot shorter waiting line and the food is same as inside the restaurant. read more

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Before visiting Barcelona, I already knew I wanted to eat here based on the reviews. It didn't dissapppinted. It was so good that we went back two more times!! You could eat here every day and never have the same dish twice. We never had anything we didn't like, though I would say the sangria is sweeter than most (not bad--just different!) Great service. While packed is an understatement, my husband loved the tapas at this restaurant. We sat at the tapas bar because we were lucky enough to find a couple chairs in the madhouse, plus he was starving and didn't want to wait for a table. People stood hovering behind us which was a tad disconcerting, and reaching past me constantly to place drink orders, but the food is prepared there in front of you. This was our first tapas meal in Barcelona. Both Kelly and I had it bookmarked and our hotel recommended them as well. Great minds think alike. Even though we went at an off time (3-4pm) the place was bumping busy. It's bigger than it looks, though. Because we are dumb Americans we stared at the wine list in wonder - a WHOLE BOTTLE of cava for €14? Yep, and it was a tasty bottle to boot. For food, we had a plate of jamon, a plate of delicious manchego, patatas bravas, croquetas and fried Camembert. Although everything was delicious, the standout was that fried Camembert which was rolled in nuts and served with a fig paste. Incredible. Service is efficient and a little rushed, but still plenty nice. A nice intro to many great meals in Spain and recommended if you are nearby. read more
We were trying to get an 'early' dinner, and were glad Ciutat Comtal's dinner service starts earlier at 6pm, unlike most Spanish restaurants that start at 9pm. By the time we arrived at 7:45pm, there was already a line outside. The wait for two was 30 minutes, so grabbed a predinner drink nearby as we waited. Within 35-40 minutes, we were seated and placing our order for tapas. Ciutat Comtal has an English version of their menu, and their servers also speak English, which makes ordering easy for tourists. As we've noticed, Ciutat Comtal's food and drinks are the same ones served at Cerveseria Catalana, so if you've eaten at one, you've eaten at both. Both are located in the same neighborhood, though it feels as if Ciutat Comtal's location is bigger. Food here was delicious, and service prompt and professional. read more
Fried Fish with Peppers; Razor Clams with Lemon; Shrimp & Mushroom Tortilla; Sirloin on Toast - not a bad introduction to Barcelona! The place is gigantic and energetic. Tourists to business people and everything in between. There is a large bar when you first come in and you can look at the various offerings beautifully presented (that's where we spotted the razor clams). We were seated on the 2nd floor where we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Not the best Tapas we've had on our trip but very very good. With 2 beers the bill came to around $42 US read more
It was pretty good clearly a famous spot on the map for tapas. I thought it was a little over saturated in oils for my taste and a bit heavy. The beef tenderloin was served with foie grad which added to the fatty feel of the mood, I do wish the mushrooms and shrimp were less greasy. The best meal a little sweet and so well made was the Bacalao which came out last but was what I'd wished I'd eaten most. All good but the oily/greasy/heavy/richness was less preferred for me. Cuidad Condal is a great spot for tapas and your wine/vino cravings. I feel if you tried any of their dishes you will be happy with your decision. My friend and I ordered alot, so it was hard to remember what exactly we ate but I did remember the highlight of the meal was the Surtido de Ibericos. It was an assortment of cheese and meats and wow. With four people, the meal was roughly $22 for six or seven items on top of a bottle of wine. For the quality, it is a great deal. I highly recommend the Surtido de Ibericos again if you are a big wine and cheese/meats person. Granted, the menu was in Spanish, so if you haven't studied a little Spanish there might be some lost in translation. I know a fair amount of Spanish so it was not too bad to order not translate what the menu was saying. The service was fairly good and attentive. The language barrier did make it a little hard to communicate but that was expected. Overall, I would come back if I was nearby or in Spain again read more

Meh. It was so overrated; the tapas were okay, nothing amazing. It was basically all just put on a grill. I don't think you really need to come here if you are coming to a Barcelona for a tour. Price is okay but again, would not recommend if you are looking for authentic tapas. read more

One of our first nights in Barcelona, we had no clue where to go! As we walked around in Eixample for other reasons, I asked someone for a suggestion and they recommended Ciutat Comtal, which is also alternatively known as Ciudad Condal. Boy were we in for a treat that night. This had some of the best tapas we've had and if anything inspired us to go try other tapas elsewhere too! It opened up our palates and our minds with everything we had. And the atmosphere was buzzing, and electric, with people fawning over the food, which made it even better as we sat at the bar. The biggest take away and wish was that any other server that we had anywhere else, they would be like the server we had here. read more

This was our last meal in Spain. I read the amazing reviews and they did not disappoint. Inside is very luxurious with beautiful chandeliers. We ordered an array of tapas and I ordered a glass of Chardonnay. Some of the highlights was the pork and spicy prawns! read more

Absolutely incredible! We ate here the first night and were floored on how good the food and service were. We wanted to eat all around the city to try as much as we could. Ended up eating here two more times. Long lines but they do the best they can to accommodate. Food, service, pricing, ambiance, all the above were amazing. Can't wait to come back in the near future!! Get their Foie Gras with Beef Tenderloin. It's a small steak with a nice cut of Perfectly seared foie gras for around $6 USD!!!!!!! Whatttttt!!! read more
this place was a little bit annoying to get into even at 630pm you definitely have to be assertive to get a table, but had a great ambience. our waiter was attentive by Barcelona standards. food came very quickly. mostly enjoyed the eggplant chips w honey, fried seafood and the sangria. at one point I ordered more tapas and our waiter misunderstood and ended up just not bringing me the last one that we had been waiting on previously, but it was fine because we were stuffed. amazing prices for serving and quality. would recommend for tapas. They also added 10% gratuity and oddly didn't have a wine or cocktail list read more

We came across this place from Rick Steve's travel guide and we also googled the reviews. Wow. 8,000+ good reviews. This is a very busy place. So, we had to try this place out. We ordered from the today's special menu: -duck and mushroom mini cannoli - very original and tasty. (4 stars) -salmon, avocado and prawn - nothing special as we have this often back home (3 stars) -fried mini fish - fresh and crispy (4 star) -Norwegian lobster paella - it is not really a lobster but more of langoustine but the menu says lobster. The dish was served a luke warm as the waiter was showing the featured dish around the tables. The paella was cooked in a big pan and then served for those interested in ordering it (4 stars) -grilled razor clams (4 stars) -sangria - too sweet and we noticed the bottom of the jar full of white sugar (2 stars) Rating: 1 - Poor, 2 - OK, 3 - Good, 4 - Very Good, 5 - Excellent read more

The queue line here is worth the wait!!! Such delicious food and great drinks! Memorable bar conversations with various customers and servers! We are especially impressed with Shirley our hostess, Olga and Epi our servers, who continue to work on their feet nonstop with smiles on their faces in spite of the late hours. read more

I stumbled into this place on my walk and glad I did. Service was great and helped me figure out what to order and not over order given that I was by myself. Patatas were delicious and very satisfying. This place was also not super busy which made it quite nice. read more

The food is just awful. The taste is disgusting (cod fish on tomato with honey and topped with big amount of mayonnaise!!). Crocket with ham was half cold half hot. Tempura was not crispy, it was wet. Yes all food is looks like cheap. But you will spend more money visiting doctors after. read more

If I could give this place more than 5*, I would. We came on Monday around 7 PM and we were seated immediately. We ordered: - Razor Clam 4/5- first time having this and it was good! - Chicken & Ham Croquette- 4/5 love it! With us having mostly seafood lately, this is a good jumpstart to meat again :) - Cannelloni 5/5 not sure what's inside, but it's meaty wrapped in pasta like - Prawn & Scallop skewers 5/5 they know how to cook these! Scallop has to be perfect to taste good and they did that - Cod with honey aioli 10/5 :) let's just say I never had a cod with that consistency and the sauce complements it well. Definitely recommend this place! read more
