Amazing tapas spot in Barcelona right off las ramblas. Great Quality and reasonable pricing. We got a bunch of different things to try. We loved the steak and also the dates! Highly recommend while in town.
Came recommended by our hotel - we went early cause this place gets packed....no reservations - but the line moved pretty quickly. We chose several options off the tapas menu....loved the steak with Fois! Service was great, cute ambiance, was a solid choice so glad we went. It's a fun area it's in also.
I went here the day I arrived and my last night in Barcelona. Amaya was our server, both times we were a group of 6. If you have an open pallet to tapas and would like to experience this place, let the waiter select for your group. The first night he did fabulous, the second time we thought we knew how n what to order-we ended up with too much food. The sangria and local beer is fabulous. Also-their menu changes each day and night-the experience will be different for each person.
whatever you're doing in Barcelona, make a stop at this delicious tapas bar. They don't take reservations but the wait moves quickly as you'll see the servers moving fast! Every tapa we ordered was soooo goood that we started and ended our trip here we had the classic patatas bravas, jamón ibérico, croquettes, bacalao, & huevos cabreados - everything delicious. for dessert, we tried torrija quemada, churros con chocolate, crema catalana, and roscón borrachín. The vibe reminds me of a busy New York diner, which I love, so if you're looking for something more quiet and calm then this might not be the spot for you.
The service here is excellent! Our large group of 10 was handled with extra care, and without a reservation! I asked about something that was not on their menu, and they had the chef make it for us anyway--sliced tomatoes with olive oil and pulpos with garlic and olive oil instead of the tomato base sauce it normally comes with. Literally everything we ordered was fantastic. If you think I'm being biased because we were treated very well and our party had a wonderful time, then go ahead and call it bias. But the fact that we walked away happy, satisfied, and will have long-lasting memories at this place, then they succeeded! Restaurants are not strictly about the food. It's the entire experience. My family and friends will recommend this place to anyone going to Barcelona.
During our three days in Barcelona, Cervecería Ciudad Condal was the very first tapas restaurant we visited -- and it turned out to be the absolute best! Our server, Amaya, was funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. He took great care of us, and every single recommendation he made was delicious. I wish I knew all the Spanish names of the dishes because everything was amazing. The highlights for us were the Bacalao -- so tender and full of flavor -- and honestly the best octopus I've ever had in my life. We also loved the soft steak with duck liver served on a slice of French baguette, the shrimp skewers, patatas, and the Spanish ham with tomato toasts. Every dish was unforgettable. On top of the incredible food, the restaurant itself has such an elegant atmosphere with beautiful décor that made the whole dining experience even more special. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Barcelona!
Amazing food. One of the most delicious restaurants my family ate at while in Barcelona. It was very convenient in terms of proximity to our hotel. All the wait staff we encountered spoke English, which made ordering easier. They have both Spanish and English menus. This restaurant was packed with tourists but we still managed to get seating right away. Very good tapas. The food was the highlight of the evening but the service was excellent as well. Comparable prices to restaurants with similar ambiance in the U.S.
Came here on the strong recommendation of a friend. Usually people recommend places and I am not impressed. This place really impressed me. I hope it wasn't because we had walked about 25k steps by the time we got there but because the place was so darn good! We got there around 630pm on a Monday evening got seated right away. When we left an hour later there was a line to get in. Amaya was our waiter and he was wonderful. We knew we wanted to try the following dishes: Razorback clams 5/5: I've only seen these in NY and had them stir fried. These were steamed and perfectly tender. Of the 3 pieces I ate, one had that funny tang at the end but the other two were great. Squeezed a little lemon on top and it was perfection! Creamy Asparagus and mushroom 3/5: Dunno why everyone says to order this. It was okay but nothing special to it. A good hit of garlic I suppose but nothing to write home about. Spanish omelette 5/5: It really tasted like a melt in your mouth scalloped au gratin. But the combination of tender potatoes, cream and light egg just melts in your mouth. Loved the little buttered tomatoe bread too to balance the "omelette". Amaya, our awesome waiter wanted to surprise us with his recommendations. They were: Suckling pig 4/5: I had wanted to try this and the first bite was disappointing too salty but when I added some of the orange sauce it balanced it out perfectly. Very tender but I wouldn't order it again. Prawn skewer 5/5: Wow. That's all there is to say. The prawn and calamari rings were so tender and the prawns were fresh and juicy. Cooked to perfection. Cod with "olivado" 5/5: This was the best dish by far. The fish was flakey tender and the cheese? with hint of tomatoes was all balanced to well. I thought the hubs was going to lick his plate! For dessert he ordered us the "torrija" which tasted like a combination of donut, cream, and creme brûlée. 5/5! The combination of flavors and textures in your mouth was sooooo good! We also had a half pitcher of sangria and some sparkling water. The ambiance is upbeat and even though it was crowded, it wasn't noisy. It's a very pretty space and fairly large. I would say this was one of my best meals ever. You need to come to this place!
Got this reco from a fellow Yelper. This was my favorite dining experience in Barcelona. Arrived at noon on a weekday with a party of 6 without reservations. The restaurant is quite large, so they were able to seat us since the locals seem to eat at 1 PM. Servers were very friendly and spoke quite a bit of English. They gave us a Catalan/Spanish Menu as well as an English menu. The servers mentioned that tables are available for 1.5 hours and then they ask you to leave. We had no problems with the timing as the food comes out quickly after ordering. The food - recommended without reservations Burnt Saint Teresa "torrija" - easily my favorite dessert on the trip, maybe the best overall dish. If a popover, cream puff, and a crème brûlée got together and had a baby, this dessert would be the result. Eggy-bready on the outside, cream filling, and a caramelized sugar crust on top. I saw some people post a picture of this dessert and label it "bread pudding". That's like posting a picture of the Sistine Chapel and calling it "paint on stone". "Cabreaos" style eggs - "angry" eggs - a bowl of shoestring fries + chile sauce + 2 sunny side up eggs - this is all cut up and mixed table-side. Eat it quick while it's still crispy. Grilled Razor Clams and Grilled Galician Clams - very fresh seafood, simply prepared. Cooked to perfection. Creamy mushrooms assortment - if you like mushrooms, you like this dish. Comes with an egg yolk that gets mixed in. Codfish with honey "aioli" - the fish has a bit of chew to it - maybe slightly underdone. Honey adds quite a bit of sweetness. Never had this pairing before and definitely worth trying. Recommended Chocolate with churros - 5 thin pieces of churro. The chocolate is one of the better ones we had on the trip - more chocolate flavor and very smooth (not a broken emulsion) Fried Mix - squid, cuttlefish, small fishes, padron pepper - the peppers look like shishitos, but they don't have any heat. Everything was cooked well, but I liked the small fish the best. These were ok - Lobster Rice - their version of paella? There were visible lobster shells on top. I prefer a more traditional paella. Green Salad with raw vegetables - served with bottles of vinegar and olive oil for
Visiting from out of country. This is a tapas restaurant. The food was good, we were seated outside after a 10 minute wait. There were quite a few people. The beef tenderloin was too raw for our liking and we asked to have it medium and they were nice about it. We tried lots of stuff and would recommend it. Just be prepared for the wait and ask for the English menu.
Food was excellent, but the service on the day of going was really non-existent from the time of waiting, to seating, and being served. The hostess had our party stand in the restaurant for a good 20 min after being called in ready only to realize our table wasn't going to be. Our server was new, day one on the job, at a very hectic spot which I empathize with. The selection of tapas and postres was well worth the wait though, and everything tasted great so would be back. I'm sure other experiences and future experiences could be better.
We had a lovely table upstairs and a very knowledgeable and helpful server. The food was excellent, we had tomato bread, sliced fried artichokes, and a spread, Brie, candied walnut and honey baguette. My wife topped it off with a crème brûlée bread pudding she loved with a cappuccino. Lovely place make sure you know the street names and number when looking as it is an unassuming facade. It's worth the wait if you have one.

I don't like to leave bad reviews because everyone has different tastes. I had 4 dices beef entrecoat with mushrooms sauces with gnochis. I need to separate 50% of fat from small pcs. And gnochis was so over cook. It was almost melted. Also, the front lady who is staying in front of the restaurant she is not nice. The good thing was that my server was so nice, and the restaurant is pretty good vibes. Overrated review. read more

We walked to Ciudad Condal for dinner after visiting the unique Casa Batllo nearby. We found the restaurant was already packed with locals and tourists. Despite our hunger, we were determined to try this tapas bar and waited for about 40 minutes. As soon as we seated in the bar, we were greeted by a friendly host who quickly took our order and returned with our food and drinks. The service was attentive despite the busy crowd and long wait-time. The assorted platter included a variety of delicious tapas dishes: razor clams, prawns, croquettes, fried cuttlefish, and fried hot green peppers. We were pleasantly surprised that the peppers tasted sweet not spicy. The razor clams were fresh and well-flavoured. We also ordered a side of crispy camembert, which made for a nice dessert. The pitcher of sangria was aromatic and complemented the meal well. read more

Ciudad Comtal is one of my husband's go-to restaurants in Barcelona so much so that he's been going back every time he's in the city. Since it's my first time in Barcelona, he really wanted to have dinner at Ciudad Comtal but with our packed schedule and humid weather, we had a spur of the moment early lunch here and it was the best decision ever! We arrived early and avoided the lunch rush. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by friendly filipino servers and got a table by the window. You can choose the tapas on display or pick from their menu. We got their assorted tapas, calamari, patatas bravas and sangria plus a few more tapas from the display. Everything was soooo good! I loved the pimientos de padron as it was my first time to try it while the calamares were cooked perfectly! The Sangria was a wonderful and refreshing accompaniment to the meal too! The hubby loved his croquettas, tapas and grilled beef skewer too Highly recommend this place but do come early as it gets packed quickly. read more
We came at 2 p.m. for our lunch and was seated immediately. Food was really good. We got the special for the day Paella , which was the squid ink (5 stars). It was so good! Glad we had that. We also ordered the cod fish (5 stars), chicken croquettes (3 stars) and the roasted bread with tomatoes spread (3 stars). We wanted to try more but we got full already so maybe next time. Service was excellent too. read more

Pros: excellent food, good service, even better drinks Cons: the WAIT What a fantastic introduction to Barcelona. We came here hungry, jet lagged...basically running on empty. We left full and excited to explore Barcelona. First off the wait is very long. Prepare for an hour or more. Take advantage of the location and walk around the neighborhood though as the people watching is great. Once you get seated the service is reasonable and the food, well...wow! We had a good range of seafood ranging from squid and cod to steak and frites. Definitely feel free to go out of your comfort zone. The portion sizes are on point and the quality is real! I definitely recommend the fish with honey, still thinking about it.... Oh and the sangria is phenomenal (and strong ). Hot tip: you can skip the line and wait for a spot to open at the bar or the tables around the bar!! read more

Barcelona's tapas scene is something I could write a book about. The history, the significance, the flavors...UGH, take me back! The acclaimed Ciudad Condal would make the cut in the aforementioned book idea. Things to know: there are, in fact, English menus available, even if you get a quick dirty look from the staff. The restaurant itself is beautiful and vast, full of elegance. However, if you're lucky enough to land a seat at the bar, jump at the opportunity! Unfortunately, it was very busy when we arrived for a bar seat, but they sat us in the dining room instantly. Tomato bread hits the table, and this was my introduction to the Spanish phenomenon. Honestly, this one didn't quite cut it for me compared to a few others during our visit. The tapas that we ordered were up there with some of the top of our entire European vacation. Below are the MUST ORDERS: 1. Bravas Potatoes - Exceptional and addictive. We devoured these like candy. The potatoes didn't stand a chance. 2. Chicken w/ Cured Ham Croquette - Hallelujah, this was refined, tender, and the perfect bite. They should make these into foot longs. 3. Shrimp Al Ajillo - Fresh, doused in olive oil, and oh so succulent. The texture was velvety. I've never seen my girlfriend lose her mind over a bite of shrimp. The remaining tapas were solid, especially the Calamari of the Day. The others were unique, yet not home runs like the above tapas. Another damper with the meal was the local beer they recommended for me, which tasted like the brewers were blindfolded when they made it. Overall, it's a wonderful dining experience with incredible tapas on the menu. It's a place to be seen and a ideal restaurant to show your friends the higher end Barcelona foodie scene. Cheers to our introduction to Spanish-style tapas! read more
3.5 stars. This place is definitely for tourists. We ordered 1/2 carafe of red sangria and 3 tapas for a light lunch and the bill was $45. Pricey for the amount of food you get. We ordered: -Broiled Prawns: Good but nothing special. It did not come with a sauce and served cold. -Seafood Salad: We asked about what was inside before ordering. They said crab and shrimp. The crab that was served with this was not even real crab... Please refer to picture. -Cuttlefish: this is a must order and the reason why we came here in the first place! The staff is pretty friendly and are willing to answer your questions regarding the menu. read more

I'm never a fan of tourist traps or waiting in lines of any sort. I was THOROUghly disappointed with a highly reviewed restaurant on yelp yesterday, so I was afraid I'd fall victim to yet another tourist fake good food trap again. I had high hopes for my last meal and I can safely say this was the best one I've had in Barcelona in the 3 trips I've been here, and the 7 times I've been in Spain. Food: 5 Value: 5 (~$30 for all below) Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 (wasn't very special) The food (from good to best): - huevos rotos (4 stars): shoestring potatoes and egg; if you don't dig oily foods, avoid - otherwise this'll be your jam - smoked salmon with boiled langostino (4 stars) wasn't a fan of the boiled shrimp meh, but that SALmON get in Muh belllyyyyyyyy - special if the day: shrimp + mushrooms (4.5 stars) mushrooms crunchy, shrimp SO fresh + cooked pEeerrrfectly. Only complaint is this was a little oily - shrimp montedito: (4.5 stars) SO FRESH SO BIG wujuuuutttt served with the large flakes of salt, a little soft on the inside - cod montedito: (5 stars) ridiculously fresh, buttery and melt in your mouth with sweet and tangy onion and tomato - smoked salmon montedito (10 stars??????????????????) omg this salmon? I think I could eat all day. SO THICK AND MELT IN YOUR MOUTH GOOODNESS please go get it I'm so glad I came. Sadly, my last meal of the week here in BCN and but so gladly my last meal at THIS restaurant. read more

You are here for the same reason I was; the good reviews and the pretty Yelp pics. Ugh, let's call this place what it is: a mediocre tourist trap. Can't believe I am saying this but the worst tapas I've ever had and it's in Barcelona... sad . Look, the pictures look great but the food is subpar. The steak is chewy, bread stale, shrimp overcooked and sangria watered down lacking any substantial amount of fruit. The tapas plates are quite boring. Let's talk about details: paper napkins, old glassware, poor plating and stuffy inside.... This was a let down. There will be a line to get in here, don't waste your time, go hunt for a better tapas place as there are many. read more

First visit to Barcelona so we wanted some Tapas (of course!) for lunch. Although there were a few Tapas choices in the area, Ciudad was only a 10 minute walk from our hotel so we decided to check it out. We arrived around noon & lunch rush hadn't quite started yet. The interior of the restaurant was very inviting with high ceilings in the back. There is bar stool seating in the front where the small Tapas are displayed & you can eat and order a variety of Montaditos. We had to try the "Cabreaos" eggs style which was amazing. Who knew that over easy eggs mixed with shoestring potatoes & spices could be so good?! Just the final preparation of the dish at our table was enough! Our server suggested the seafood salad and we also got the pasta salad-both excellent. Added a variety of small Tapas & Vegetable Tempura. Great service & Tapas-we will be back! read more

Wait is long but best tapas in Barcelona !! Super worth it!! Would definitely go back here ! read more
Always a must when we come to BCN. We eat here several times during our stay. You need reservations only for large groups or if you eat during prime time, but otherwise, this restaurant opens really late until 1:30am. We usu go around 9-ish to avoid the crowd and rush. If you sit at the bar, you can order from the menu or point to whatever tapas you want and they'll bring them right to you. The quality doesn't compare to anywhere else we've been. Eat here and you won't be disappointed. read more

Based on the recommendation from our hotel concierge, we popped into this delightful restaurant for a early lunch on a spring Saturday. The nice outdoor patio was full but there were plenty of tables in this large space. This Spanish restaurant had a great list of Tapas and we tried several. My wife enjoyed the California Salad which was a mixture of fresh Avocado, pasta and some regular ham. The tenderloin tapa was good as was the eggplant/peppers and goat cheese stack. Food came out fast and tasted very fresh. Service was prompt and like most places in Barcelona language was not an issue with English speaking waiters and English menus. Recommended read more
Always crowded and people are just willing to wait... Small dishes of delicious food - grill octopus, grilled mushrooms and fried fish are recommended. Attentive staffs and fast service. All food on the menu are recommended, except razor clams - good on the flavors, but too much sand on the texture. In warmer days, I recommend outdoor seating, which is a lot shorter waiting line and the food is same as inside the restaurant. read more

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Before visiting Barcelona, I already knew I wanted to eat here based on the reviews. It didn't dissapppinted. It was so good that we went back two more times!! You could eat here every day and never have the same dish twice. We never had anything we didn't like, though I would say the sangria is sweeter than most (not bad--just different!) Great service. Friendly atmosphere. Incredible food. Can't beat the prices. If you dine here (which you should) you must try: Honey glazed cod Cuttlefish (fried or grilled.. or both) Octopus Patatas bravas read more

While packed is an understatement, my husband loved the tapas at this restaurant. We sat at the tapas bar because we were lucky enough to find a couple chairs in the madhouse, plus he was starving and didn't want to wait for a table. People stood hovering behind us which was a tad disconcerting, and reaching past me constantly to place drink orders, but the food is prepared there in front of you. Fresh shrimp and seafood on ice display in the counter under glass right there. We ordered a wide array of tapas, it was good. Very friendly staff. read more
I came here based on a friend's recommendation. I had the Garlic shrimp and Fried mixed fish. Both were awesome! I was told to try the foie gras but didn't see it on the menu. This place is busy! I didn't know how to make reservations but was able to sit at the bar by going on the earlier side. read more

This was our first tapas meal in Barcelona. Both Kelly and I had it bookmarked and our hotel recommended them as well. Great minds think alike. Even though we went at an off time (3-4pm) the place was bumping busy. It's bigger than it looks, though. Because we are dumb Americans we stared at the wine list in wonder - a WHOLE BOTTLE of cava for €14? Yep, and it was a tasty bottle to boot. For food, we had a plate of jamon, a plate of delicious manchego, patatas bravas, croquetas and fried Camembert. Although everything was delicious, the standout was that fried Camembert which was rolled in nuts and served with a fig paste. Incredible. Service is efficient and a little rushed, but still plenty nice. A nice intro to many great meals in Spain and recommended if you are nearby. read more
We were trying to get an 'early' dinner, and were glad Ciutat Comtal's dinner service starts earlier at 6pm, unlike most Spanish restaurants that start at 9pm. By the time we arrived at 7:45pm, there was already a line outside. The wait for two was 30 minutes, so grabbed a predinner drink nearby as we waited. Within 35-40 minutes, we were seated and placing our order for tapas. Ciutat Comtal has an English version of their menu, and their servers also speak English, which makes ordering easy for tourists. As we've noticed, Ciutat Comtal's food and drinks are the same ones served at Cerveseria Catalana, so if you've eaten at one, you've eaten at both. Both are located in the same neighborhood, though it feels as if Ciutat Comtal's location is bigger. Food here was delicious, and service prompt and professional. read more

Fried Fish with Peppers; Razor Clams with Lemon; Shrimp & Mushroom Tortilla; Sirloin on Toast - not a bad introduction to Barcelona! The place is gigantic and energetic. Tourists to business people and everything in between. There is a large bar when you first come in and you can look at the various offerings beautifully presented (that's where we spotted the razor clams). We were seated on the 2nd floor where we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Not the best Tapas we've had on our trip but very very good. With 2 beers the bill came to around $42 US read more
Cuidad Condal is a great spot for tapas and your wine/vino cravings. I feel if you tried any of their dishes you will be happy with your decision. My friend and I ordered alot, so it was hard to remember what exactly we ate but I did remember the highlight of the meal was the Surtido de Ibericos. It was an assortment of cheese and meats and wow. With four people, the meal was roughly $22 for six or seven items on top of a bottle of wine. For the quality, it is a great deal. I highly recommend the Surtido de Ibericos again if you are a big wine and cheese/meats person. Granted, the menu was in Spanish, so if you haven't studied a little Spanish there might be some lost in translation. I know a fair amount of Spanish so it was not too bad to order not translate what the menu was saying. The service was fairly good and attentive. The language barrier did make it a little hard to communicate but that was expected. Overall, I would come back if I was nearby or in Spain again read more

One of our first nights in Barcelona, we had no clue where to go! As we walked around in Eixample for other reasons, I asked someone for a suggestion and they recommended Ciutat Comtal, which is also alternatively known as Ciudad Condal. Boy were we in for a treat that night. This had some of the best tapas we've had and if anything inspired us to go try other tapas elsewhere too! It opened up our palates and our minds with everything we had. And the atmosphere was buzzing, and electric, with people fawning over the food, which made it even better as we sat at the bar. The biggest take away and wish was that any other server that we had anywhere else, they would be like the server we had here. read more
It was pretty good clearly a famous spot on the map for tapas. I thought it was a little over saturated in oils for my taste and a bit heavy. The beef tenderloin was served with foie grad which added to the fatty feel of the mood, I do wish the mushrooms and shrimp were less greasy. The best meal a little sweet and so well made was the Bacalao which came out last but was what I'd wished I'd eaten most. All good but the oily/greasy/heavy/richness was less preferred for me. Would have preferred a little lighter of a meal. read more
